THE BEGINNING. Kunst in Österreich 1945 bis 1980. #2 Der Phantastische Realismus und Friedensreich Hundertwasser from CastYourArt on Vimeo.

Am Beginn der Kunst in Österreich nach der Gewaltherrschaft der Nationalsozialisten und dem Krieg steht die »Wiener Schule des Phantastischen Realismus«, die zunächst unter dem Namen »Wiener Surrealismus« firmierte. Dazu gehören Küntler wie Arik Brauer, Ernst Fuchs, Rudolf Hausner, Wolfgang Hutter und Anton Lehmden, die den Kern der Gruppe bilden. Überraschend wahrscheinlich für einige die ihn kennen, ist dass auch Arnulf Rainer Arbeiten fertigte, die dieser Richtung zugerechnet werden. Die Künstler dieser Gruppe suchten mit ihrer Kunst eine Neuorientierung weg vom pathetischen Heroikgehabe und den falschen Idyllen der nationalsozialistischen Kunst hin zu einer Öffnung für die internationalen Strömungen, insbesondere den Surrealismus, jedoch können sie nicht als Nachfolger des französischen Surrealismus gelten, denn ihr Zugang war wesentlich analytischer und von einem tiefgehenden Denken über die Bedingtheit der Existenz in der Welt und von der eigenen Situation geprägt.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser wiederum kann als jener österreichische Nachkriegskünstler bezeichnet werden, dem schon früh internationale Anerkennung und Erfolg zuteil wurde. Er hat ein äußerst solitäres Werk geschaffen, das Elemente einer Weltsicht und -reflexion beinhaltet - beispielsweise der Ganzheitlichkeit und auch des Umweltbewusstseins - die noch heute aktuell ist und damals ihrer Zeit weit voraus war.

Im CastYourArt Filmbeitrag stellen die beiden Kurator*innen Berthold Ecker und Elisabeth Dutz den Phantastischen Realismus und die Kunst Hundertwassers vor, denen jeweils eigene Bereiche der ALBERTINAmodern Ausstellung "The Beginning. Kunst in Österreich 1945 bis 1980" gewidmet sind.

Sobre el trabajo de investigación que llevó a cabo Jon Ronson durante cuatro años para explorar cientos de cajas, casi un millar, que Stanley Kubrick había reunido durante gran parte de su vida en su residencia familiar de Hertfordshire.

Tras una ardua labor de rebuscar, se extrajo interesantísimo material, fotografías de localización, cartas, anotaciones, guiones, recortes de periódicos, etc, tanto de las películas que llegó a finalizar, como de sus proyectos inacabados.

Con la participación de Stanley Kubrick, Anthony Frewin, Anya Kubrick, Christiane Kubrick, Jon Ronson, Vincent Tilsley y Leon Vitali entre otros.

Realizado por Jan Harlan, cuñado de Kubrick y antiguo asistente, está compuesto por varios capítulos de 15’ cada uno detallando la realización de sus películas, y dos referidos a su infancia y vida.

Jan Harlan contó con la participación de algunos de los viejos colaboradores de Kubrick quienes fueron entrevistados, entre ellos se encuentran Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Keir Dullea, Arthur C. Clarke, Malcolm McDowell, Peter Ustinov, Jack Nicholson, György Ligeti y Matthew Modine entre otros. También hay entrevistas a varios directores inspirados por Kubrick, como Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese y Sydney Pollack.

Contiene material inédito, incluyendo algunos vídeos pertenecientes al archivo personal de la familia Kubrick o filmaciones realizadas durante el rodaje de las películas del director.

On the occasion of the “Botero” exhibition in the Bank Austria Kunstforum, curator Dr. Evelyn benesch will speak about the artist’s Abu Ghraib series.

In the years 2004-2005, Columbian painter Fernando Botero worked on a series of paintings named Abu Ghraib. Ever since the photographs of the Abu Ghraib prison were published in 2004, this name came to symbolize a policy that endorses abuse and torture in the name of justice. The hypocrisies around the events in Abu Ghraib prompted the artist to paint this cycle. US museums simply disregarded these works during Botero exhibitions. When liberal Berkeley University finally showed this cycle, Botero donated the entire series to the university in gratitude. In the exhibition “Botero”, in Bank Austria Kunstforum, “Abu Ghraib”, the outraged artist’s cycle on human brutality, will be on display until January 15, 2012. Wenn wir an bewegte Bilder denken, bringt unser Geist-Körper unwillkürlich sofort Bilder hervor, so wie mit allem was wir denken, erinnern oder uns vorstellen. Außer dieser unerschöpflichen Quelle innerer Bilder ist unser Blick ein unersättliches Fenster, ein Fänger von Bildern der Außenwelt. Wenn wir an diese Worte denken, beginnen sich Verbindungen in unserem Imaginären zu bilden, und ohne es zu wollen, machen wir innerlich den Bildschnitt.

In der Shedhalle St. Pölten zeigt Zeit Kunst Niederösterreich bis 24.1.2016 die erste Retrospektive der Künstlerin und Filmemacherin Constanze Ruhm, die sich in ihren Arbeiten mit Architekturen, realen und virtuellen Räumen, Inszenierung, Machtverhältnissen, und den Methoden des Films, des Theaters und der bildenden Kunst beschäftigt. Kuratiert von Alexandra Schantl, umfasst die Schau Arbeiten der Künstlerin von 1998 bis 2015.

Die Ausstellungsarchitektur entstammt in ihrem Grundriss der Arbeit coming attraction, das Raumkonzept wurde gemeinsam mit der Architektin Kempinger-Khatibi entwickelt. In assoziativ-intuitiver Weise wird das Medium Film mit digitalen Technologien kombiniert.

Darauf basieren andere, komplexere Verbindungen: Filme, Video, Erinnerungen, -individuelle und kollektive- die sie umgeben und die Gefühlsbeziehung, die wir mit diesen bewegten Bildern eingehen, bergen die Gefahr zu vergessen, dass unser Körper, der Erzeuger und Empfänger dieser Bilder, immer anwesend ist. Räume, in denen eine Simultanität von Bildern projiziert wird, die von verschiedenen Achsen wahrgenommen werden können, beziehen sich auf die Kontinuität und den Fluss der Bilder, aber auch auf die Abnutzung des hergebrachten Betrachterstandpunktes. In diesem Format wird das Werk durch den Betrachter aktiviert, der sich bewegen muss, um den Raum zu durchmessen - eine Wirklichkeit, die als Bild eine Illusion von Bewegung wird.

Die unterschiedlichen Installationsformen der Ausstellung zeigen unterschiedliche Methoden in ihrer künstlerischen Praxis. Die Strukturen ästhetischer Universen werden rekontextualisiert, redefiniert und dekonstruiert. Heterogenität, Diskontinuität, Fragmentierung, Simultaneität, Differenzierung, Simulation, Pastiche, Bricolage und das Aleatorische akzentuieren sich mehr und mehr in der ästhetischen Produktion von Constanze Ruhm. Jeder Zusammenhang hat seine eigene Sprache zwischen dem Schriftlichen und dem Visuellen. Die Arbeiten drehen sich um das Medium selbst, um Psychologie, mal werden sie immer emotionaler oder Humor kommt zum Einsatz um Machtverhältnisse in Frage zu stellen.

So sind Ruhms Werke nicht abgeschlossen und fertig, sondern immer un-endlich. Alle Kunstbilder werden modifiziert und erlangen ihren Wert dadurch, dass sie prozessiert und transformiert werden. So werden Fragenkomplexe um das Auratische, Persönliche und Originale des Werks zutage gefördert.

Die Poetik der virtuellen Bilder und ihre nicht-narrativen und traumähnlichen Möglichkeiten sind -jenseits von Bedeutung und Sinn- der Intensität und Dauer der Erfahrung gewidmet.

Durch die Tatsache, dass die Videos, wenn auch vorher aufgenommen, live in mehreren Bildschirmen spielen, wird das Simultane in das Erfahrungsfeld eingeführt. Fragen, wie zum Verhältnis von Bildschirm zur umgebenden Architektur oder zur Interaktivität zwischen Betrachter und dem Bild werden sichtbar, wenn sich das Bild vom üblichen Ausstellungsort dekontextualisiert.

Wenn auch die zeitgenössische Überflutung durch Bilder und die Simultaneität ihres Umlaufs in inhaltlicher Hinsicht zu einer Art Betäubung führen, laden uns die Projektionen von Constanze Ruhm zu einer aktiveren und weniger kontemplativen Betrachtungsweise ein, wie zur Bestätigung, dass ein mediales Bild nichts Statisches ist und die Rezeption des Werks nicht nur ein visuelles, sondern auch ein körperliches Phänomen ist.

Inci Eviner, born 1956 in Polatli, to the southwest of Ankara, completed her artistic education at the national academy of fine arts and the Mimar Sinan University. Inci Eviner’s international career took off in the mid-1990ies. In individual exhibitions and during residencies her work was displayed in Paris, New York, Rotterdam, Bellagio and Tokyo, by reputed galleries and institutions, furthermore she participated in numerous group exhibitions around the globe. Currently the artist resides and works in Istanbul, where she holds a professorship for combined art at the Yildiz University. An CastYourArt artist-portrait of Inci Eviner.

Lee Miller - Surrealist Photography

At the age of 24 Lee Miller moved from New York to Paris. She learned photography of Man Ray, she was his muse but soon she was his partner and a respected photographer of the avant-garde in Paris. As a photographer she invented the technique of solarisation, but let Man Ray take the credit for it.

On the occasion of the “Lee Miller” exhibition at the Museum Albertina in Vienna, curator Walter Moser talks about her Time in Paris and the characteristics of her surrealist photography. She kept her surrealistic sense of the grotesque and paradox, not only in her photographic oeuvre, even in her later career as a cook she surprised her guests with edible blossoms in the salad, green chicken or blue fish, inspired by a painting by Miró.
