A concept: an experienced yandere who is self-aware goes to therapy to hopefully cure their yandere-ness. little did they know, they'd fall for their therapist. (side note: it would be super creepy if the yandere was describing all of the things they do for and want to do for their darlings to the therapist without them knowing that the one the yandere is after is actually them. and they're just oblivious as hell and concerned.)

Aaah, I totally see that! (We also have something similar with the Nagito scenario I made & which is coming up soon!)

First of all, we just love a good ol’ self-aware bastard who thinks that finally, it’s time to redeem themselves. The first session is great, and they go out feeling better than ever, but something is a little weird. Feeling good doesn’t stay for long, and they are quick to crave another session that made them feel so splendid. Another. And another. They firmly believe they need it, and before soon, they visit the therapist twice a week, but it’s still not enough for them.

“It’s hard to explain,” they tell their good, hard-working therapist. “Now I can’t live without someone to talk to like this.”

The therapist chuckles, because in hindsight, there is no one who would ever want to play therapist for a lifetime for the yandere out of a non-professional relationship. However, they get paid to sit there and listen, so they are glad for the patronage. It might be hard to listen to what all the yandere has done, especially when the yan starts to go into detail. They long started being extra explicit in describing the things on their mind, and the therapist feels like they need therapy themselves. But still, it’s not like the yan has done any of it to them, and they shouldn’t take it personally, right?

Perhaps they should. Even if the yan themselves isn’t aware over their feelings yet that maybe, just maybe, they can be so extensive because these are things they’d like to do to their therapist especially, the yandere definitely takes pleasure from their reactions. They love seeing the therapist’s stern face, their beautiful hands scribbling away on their paper. The way that their lips form questions as to why the yan feels this or that way.

Oh, the therapist is so perfect, aren’t they? They listen, and they react, and they shiver and sigh, and the yan is all over the moon for them! They are allowed to return one question per session, and there is nothing better than to ask their darling if they liked to be tied up or if they want to be cared for. Soon enough, it’s a reversed therapy, someone as convinced about their lifestyle as the yan is, starting to question their own doing.

“Isn’t it normal to love?” they ask. “To care for someone, to want to give them the best possible treatment there is?”

Of course, the therapist can’t exactly say, ‘No,’ only, “Yes, but only to a certain degree.”

It’s their answer to everything, and the yandere starts to believe they aren’t speaking the truth. They are just doing their job, but the yan knows the therapist wants to be loved in a way only the yandere can, too. So, if no one else is going to do it, they’ll take heart and accept their poor, darling therapist that no one loves dearly. They’ll accept them, and love them, and hold them, and give them a wonderful life! The yandere already has all those tools and a safe room which is dying to be used!

Everyone will be happy this way!

What should he do?

Muriel’s thoughts circled his mind frantically as you approached with eager steps. You never averted your eyes, assessing yet driving this situation. This was so very different from any other experience you two had before, and it frightened him to the core, knowing how aware you were of him now.

Despite being tall and noticeable, Muriel had been able to avoid your attention most of the time. Sometimes you’d look into his direction, subconsciously, knowing that someone was staring at you - but that pretty much was all of the interaction you two had. Why now? Why that day? How could you have noticed him in the first place?

The barrier was safe. The magic placed on him should have made you forget every glance you exchanged with him, make you forget you ever saw him. But clearly, that was not the case. Your smile was kind. Kind enough to make him weak in the knees, but that wasn’t the time for it. And you were so eager to talk to him too, despite Muriel only being able to stutter out sounds.

“Hey, I’ve seen you around a lot! I thought you might be too shy to come to my friends and me, so I wanted to check on you!”

There it was again. He was no one, and he didn’t want to be anyone. If not for Asra, Muriel would have never started to look after you. At first, you had been so docile and unresponsive. Looking after you had been easier than feeding Inanna. But ever since then, you grew more open, would go out on your own while Asra was away, and Muriel could only follow.

It was a hassle to keep up with you as you explored and discovered yourself again after your resurrection. But he also got to witness so many new sides of you, see you smile, and interact with other people. It made him wish... that he could interact with you too.

But of course, he couldn’t. Muriel knew that by the harsh pulsing of his heart in his chest, interacting with you would just bad. Because when he starts it... what if he couldn’t stop? What if he’d keep wanting more and more from you? Things you couldn’t give him? He knew a lot about you after the years he spent as your shadow. But you didn’t know anything.

You didn’t remember the touches he shared with you, tenderly, so afraid to break you. The nights he’d hold you while you cried. The many, many bad people he had to keep off your track so you’d be free of them and their evil intentions. Muriel didn’t want you to remember; everything had been so fine until now.

“G-Go away!” he growled at you, and it took you aback for a moment. But the fight was quick to return to your eyes.

“Why? I want to be friends! We can hang out together!”

“No! Stay away!”

God, he wanted to touch you.

He wanted to pull you into his arms and hold you, protect you. Thank you for your kindness and smell your hair. That’s how much he desired you. You were so lovely. Nice, even to someone like him. Granted, you didn’t know about his past, but you still were so kind towards a monster like him. Muriel knew what he was capable of. And he knew he’d do better if he stayed your shadow. It was better for both of you, despite everything pulling him towards you as if you were his personal magnet.

Muriel’s hands were tainted, and if he were to touch you, you’d surely become tainted too. It didn’t matter to him what all he had to do to keep you safe, but he couldn’t risk spoiling such an innocent, kind soul as you were... despite how much he longed to touch you.

That’s... why he bolted. In the darkness of the night, it was hard to follow him despite his size, and you lost him after he turned a corner. Gripping the little bag full of myrrh, you were sure to see him again. At the right time, perhaps you could finally ask him.

Ask him why he kept appearing in your room late at night, staring at you while you pretended to sleep.

Soulmate AUs are honestly top-notch yandere material because they are just so romantic. There aren’t a million possibilities with them, but everything leads back to the 'They are meant for each other'. Really, there’s no way you can escape destiny, even if the person you are meant for is a madman.

I don’t have a lot to add without repeating what you said. You put it into a good scenario! They always start out so innocently, full of love and happiness because you find who you are meant for. But there are always more underlying feelings involved with yandere, feelings that make them unable to let go of you or their bad habits and thoughts. However, they are protected under an umbrella of ‘Destiny’ no matter how harsh their actions or tools are, that they use to keep you with them. Even if your soulmate turns out to be the worst person in history, even if you try to deny the possibility of them being your soulmate - ultimately, you’ll have to face reality. The reality they keep telling you, keep talking about. Destiny. You might realize you are unhappy and want to leave their side, but by then, how do you explain it to yourself and your surroundings that your soulmate might only be the one destined for you, but you don’t actually want them to be with you? 

You won’t even be in the yandere’s clutches, but Destiny’s. And how do you run from that?
