Stop hating on allergen free versions of food, like if you haven’t tried it before don’t say that it doesn’t taste good or that no one else wants to have it, just cause it’s not your thing doesn’t mean that it’s just disgusting, and really don’t say that you don’t hate yourself enough to eat it, like pls just leave ppl with allergies alone and let us eat our damn food in peace

my favorite person desperately needs help with fixing her teeth. they’ve gotten progressively worse over the past 4-5 years and i’m genuinely scared for her health. she has genetic conditions that cause her teeth to break & rot so it was nothing she could’ve prevented. any help means the world to me (and to her) thank you for reading. even if you can’t donate i appreciate the share. 🤍

I need some reassurance and someone to tell me it's gonna be okay.
I went in for a pre op hysto check up yesterday. I think I did ok on the psych eval, not sure.
But bloodwork came back with some concerns and the endo suspects I might have silent celiacs.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm scared. And I need someone to tell me it's gonna be okay. I have no idea what's about to happen and what blood results will reveal and I'm very anxious.

I had a dream last night that I no longer had celiacs disease and I ate a Smuckers uncrustable PBJ. That's it, that was the whole dream.

If you have celiac and buy the brand Van’s for their waffles, please know that 9 days ago there was a recall because some of the packages of the gluten free waffles may contain “undeclared” wheat. And if you have celiac, you know “may” might as well mean “does”.
This recall only applies to boxes with the matching lot codes and numbers, and do not pertain to other products that Van’s has to offer. These boxes were distributed in AZ, CA, FL, GA, IL, NC, & WA. Please check your boxes immediately to ensure your own safety and save yourself the painful reactions to gluten. It’s advised the purchased packages be either thrown out (or given to someone who can eat wheat so as not to waste it) or return the product to where you’ve purchased it from.
Tumblr media
“The U.S. Food & Drug Administration website published the recall July 3. It applies to certain packs of Van's Gluten Free Original Waffles with lot code UW40193L, expiration date Jan. 19, 2024, and UPC 0 89947 30206 4. According to the Van's recall, some of the packs of waffles may contain undeclared wheat.”

it’s disability pride month so i want to talk about one of my least favorite stigmas around celiac disease
in lots of media, being gluten free is played as a joke or something someone is to be annoying/pretentious. the amount of times i’ve heard jokes like that is honestly disheartening.
it also doesn’t help with the general population’s belief that celiac disease/gluten sensitivities are not serious. i’ve been diagnosed with celiac disease for 3 years now, i’ve been gluten free for about 4, and it has substantially improved my quality of life. i can’t afford risking cross-contamination because it leaves me sick for days. nearly every time i have a reaction to gluten, it’s hard for me to even drink water the next day because my body is an absolute mess. i’m miserable and fatigued for days until my body heals. not to mention the long term effects that have left me unable to stand/walk around for extended periods of time because my joints are pretty weak.
being gluten free NEEDS to be taken seriously. it’s not a choice i’ve made because i’m hoping on the latest fad, its not a preference, it’s an autoimmune disorder.

I'm chronically ill. I'm disabled physically and mentally. I live a rough life from day to day. People always tell me how strong I am.
This may be with the best of intentions but in all honesty I'm not strong, I'm very weak from being broken down every single second of my life from my chronic illnesses.
I don't get to live my life, I'm surviving not thriving.

Happy Disability Pride Month to
The GI issues! No one wants to talk about GI issues, but here we go! Some of them are:
Celiac Disease
Lactose Intolerance
Crohn’s Disease
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
Barrett’s Esophagus
Colon Polyps
Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome
Diverticulitis
Dumping Syndrome
Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency
Gastroparesis
Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction
Microscopic Colitis
Stomach Ulcers
Ulcerative Colitis
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
If it seems like most of these were found on a list somewhere, you are correct, but I read up on every condition.
I invite anyone to use this post to discuss their own GI issues, and to add ones I have missed. Let’s get people talking about this! And let’s take stomach aches seriously. Many people go undiagnosed for a long time because of how abdominal pain and symptoms are brushed off. It’s important to listen to what you’re body is telling you, and to seek out help as soon as you can if it’s telling you it’s not feeling good. And going to a GI specialist can feel weird because who even wants to discuss excrement issues and vomiting? But come on, let’s do it. It’s okay to not feel well with your GI tract, and you’re not gross for it.
(A video I wanted to add to this post, but thought it would ruin the tone.)

So little thing that I learned recently; under the FDA, drug manufacturers are not required to disclose presence of major allergens in their products. While most medications do not contain gluten-containing ingredients, if you have any food allergy you need to make sure it's on file with your pharmacy, and speak with your pharmacist to find out how they flag for allergens in their system. Sometimes you may need to contact the manufacturer--if so, have the drug NDC (National Drug Code)# on hand, as they often need that to look it up. You can get this information (as well as manufactuer name) from your pharmacy.

I have to get tested for celiacs disease....
Out of all of the things I was expecting, THAT was not it.
I mean I have lactose intollerance and IBS, and a malabsorption of vitamins, but I can't make the connection to Gluten tbh...
What a fucking day...

I love you people with autoimmune conditions. I love you people with visible bodily symptoms. I love you people with invisible symptoms. I love you people explaining their interesting diets at every dinner party. I love you people struggling to explain what’s happening to them. I love you people with brain fog and fatigue and sleeplessness and pain. I love you people who have a bag full of medications and I love you people who don’t have any. I love you people with Hashimoto’s disease and psoriasis and celiac disease and crohn’s disease and everything else. I love you people battling for their mental health. I love you people making peace with their bodies. I love you people at war with themselves. I love you people discovering how to love a body that is trying desperately to love you back. I love you.

still trying to sort through the layers of this ableism & antifatness but it’s particularly painful that society treats eating gluten-free as something rooted in a desire for weight loss when
i gained more weight in the year after figuring out i have celiac than any other year of my life
including going up two shirt sizes
& going from being read as (small)fat but not having any access issues around size separate from mobility aids to being outside the bounds of straight sizing
because my body can absorb nutrients now
& for most people who ‘need’ to be eating gluten-free, you will gain weight!! & we, including those of us who were already fat, should be given space to celebrate that!! hallelujah that my body is still here to grow!!
