So our cat got out recently, and as we were out physically looking for her and doing all the necessary mundane steps, I made this to try and attract her home and keep her safe while she was out. I prayed to St. Anthony (patron of lost things) and St. Francis (patron of animals). I also made appeals to Cernunnos to protect her.
She came home within two days, and we managed to get her back inside, no worse for wear (our poor dog was, though - he tried to chase her and got a scratched ear for it).

"Hag Stones."
A Stone with a hole in it's center, or as the Celtics reffered to it as a "Hag Stone." A seeing stone.
Seen in popular media such as "Coraline." and "Spiderwick chronicles."
Tumblr media
In Coraline it was used to find 'Lost' things, helping Coraline find the three missing ghost eyes to beat the other mothers game. But when first told Miss Spink and Forcible and two differing opinions. "It's good for BAD things." > April "It's good for LOST thing." > Miriume.
Tumblr media
"In Spiderwick chronicles, it was a tool used to help a human see Fearies. Because only people with the sight or allowed to see the Fea can see them while most of the time they remain hidden. Only a "Seeing stone." Can help someone see the Fea clearly.
Tumblr media
But thats in Fictional Media, what about real Hag Stones and their superstitions in real life?
Tumblr media
"Celtic in origin. Referred as Hag Stones. Also known as Holey Stones or Witch Stones, are stones that have naturally occurring holes and usually found near oceans or other bodies of water. They are said to be powerful protection tailismans and when worn or carried they protect the bearer from curses, hexes negative spirits and harm. They have also been used to prevent nightmares, being strung on a bedpost or placed underneath pillows. It is also believed that if you peer through the hole of the stone that you can see the Fae Folk and otherworldly entities. If one broke, it is thought to have used its power to protect life.
*With that last addition, it makes sense on why this was used in media such as Spiderwick Chronicles and Coraline from it's tie to the Fea and other supernatural entities.

Celtic Zodiac (Trees)
The Celtic Zodiac is an astrological system that is based on the beliefs and mythology of the ancient Celts, who lived in Europe during the Iron Age and Medieval Periods. The Celtic Zodiac is closely related to the Irish, Welsh, and Scottish cultures, and it is believed to have originated in Ireland around 500 BCE.
The Celtic Zodiac is based on the cycle of the moon and consists of thirteen signs, each of which is associated with a specific tree or plant. Each sign represents a different personality type, and each person is believed to be born under a particular sign.
The thirteen signs of the Celtic Zodiac are:
Birch (December 24 - January 20)
Rowan (January 21 - February 17)
Ash (February 18 - March 17)
Alder (March 18 - April 14)
Willow (April 15 - May 12)
Hawthorn (May 13 - June 9)
Oak (June 10 - July 7)
Holly (July 8 - August 4)
Hazel (August 5 - September 1)
Vine (September 2 - September 29)
Ivy (September 30 - October 27)
Reed (October 28 - November 24)
Elder (November 25 - December 23)
Each sign is associated with specific traits and characteristics, and these are believed to be influenced by the tree or plant that is associated with the sign. For example, people born under the Birch sign are said to be creative and motivated, while those born under the Reed sign are believed to be empathetic and intuitive.
The Celtic Zodiac was an important part of Celtic culture, and it was used for both personal and societal purposes. The signs were used to determine the best time for planting and harvesting crops, as well as for predicting the future and making important decisions. Today, the Celtic Zodiac is still studied and used by those who are interested in Celtic culture and astrology.

Whenever pushy Christians are making me uncomfortable I am reminded of the time that I was at a funeral for someone who was very much atheist, and they brought up the idea that "Jesus forgives this person!! It's never to late to be forgiven by god!!".
I got incredibly uncomfortable, and the moment that it was over and I went outside, I found a small garter snake with beautiful blue stripes sunbathing in a fairy ring. The snake was super friendly, and happily curled around my arm for a while :)
If the Christian god really wanted me to worship him, he would stop giving me comfort in the fact that I'm pagan.

Yule Tidings!
Yule is the shortest day of the year and is also known as Winter Solstice!
Solstice derives from 'Sol' meaning 'sun' and 'Sistere' meaning 'to stand.' Winter Solstice means 'Day the sun stands still'.
In Celtic tradition Yule is a time to rest, spend time with our loved ones and feast on the previous years fortune.
There is a story of two kings who fight twice a year; they are The Oak King and The Holly King. Through out the summer The Holly King rules and as life begins to diminish, and light fades away.
In Ostara (Autumn Equinox) The Oak King is reborn and waits patiently to gain strength for the inevitable fight that comes his way. The mighty battle takes place Winter Solstice, under a new moon.
Every winter, the Oak King wins and rules over the kingdoms, making days brighter and bringing the world back to life.

Paganism isn't dead, she never was
Paganism will live as long as blood flows and wind blows
She will remain after the last man on earth draws his dying breath
She does not need to be observed to presist
She is sunlight through the trees, broken bones, the complexity of a leaf, the sharp sting of a cut
To look at her is to look at yourself, everything you've ever loved, everything you've ever hated, she is cruel, she is kind
She is alive
