She had him there. Though he was never one to reveal his true feelings. He had known Mari long enough to know she'd see right through him. "You don't... you don't know what it's like the first time after you'd drank from someone. You're physically satisfied but you've literally sucked the life out of someone. It's not easy to control, not in the early days. You will become a killer. You need to understand that before anything happens."

“Thank you.” He took the bouquet of flowers from her hands, his cold fingers briefly brushing hers. His eyes met those of the brunette, and he looked at her as if he could hold her with his gaze alone.
“You have excellent taste. These are perfect. The only thing I fear, is that old Mrs Featherington will now believe I'm her secret admirer when I'm just her doctor.” He spoke with a pleasant accent, making you think of a small coast town in southern England, mixed with that Cambridge sophistication in his attitude.

Speak my language (1250 words.)
inspired by this post by @nervousbelieverstarfish
There was a girl behind M Damocles, her hands stuck awkwardly at her sides as she made herself appear small next to him. Adrien tilted his head to the side to get a proper look but the girl shuffled away. Adrien straightened and looked up at M Damocles. Why had he led this clearly frightened girl all the way to his shady spot in the school yard? M Damocles stepped aside, gesturing to the girl with a worried smile.
“This is Marinette Dupain-Cheng, she's a new student here.”
Marinette whispered something quiet that went ignored by M Damocles.  There was a piece of pasta on her shoulder that she didn't seem to notice and a reddish stain on her black jacket that she definitely knew was there. Her entire face was pink as she watched him from behind her bangs.
He extended his hand — that was what you’re supposed to do when greeting new people? — and tried to make his smile warm. “Hi, I’m Adrien. You have pasta on your shoulder.”
Marinette blinked and M Damocles stepped in, clearing his throat.
“She’s just moved here from China. Very little French.”
Adrien retracted his hand. (He was glad she hadn’t understood him, why had he opened with ‘there’s pasta on your shoulder’? She looked mortified already, no need to kill her.)
“I know you’re only recently returning to regular schooling after your m-,” M Damocles clammed up, his voice trailing off.
“My maman died,” Adrien supplied, forcing M Damocles to look him in his eyes as he said it. He was sick of people treating him like he couldn’t bear to hear the words. Maybe it was more that they didn’t want to say it, that they didn't want to deal with the consequences if he did break with every mention of her. It was a good thing then that he’d put all that childish grief away — along with everything else that would only hurt him in the long run.
“Err- yes. That. Anyways, you’re here longer than Marinette and I read on your file you’re fluent in Chinese. You’re also in all advanced classes so you’d be the perfect fit to help Marinette get around and teach her French on the side. If you are willing to, of course.”
Adrien had half a mind to refuse M Damocles and go back to his quiet existence on the edges of the school. That was the way he liked it and nothing ever before had made him want to change that. Then he looked at Marinette and he couldn’t find it in him to refuse.
“Do you know what dialect she speaks?” Adrien asked.
“Pardon?”
“What dialect? I speak Mandarin but she could only speak Cantonese or another regional dialect I wouldn’t understand.”
M Damocles paused, his thick eyebrows weighed with confusion. It seemed the thought had never occurred to him.
“Marinette. Do - you - speak - Mandarin?” M Damocles asked her in broken French. Adrien saw something flick across her face that was different from her timid expression before. A flash of fire in her otherwise soft blue eyes. She silently nodded in response. Adrien saw it again as M Damocles turned back to Adrien to relay the answer though he’d already heard. He had to bite his lip to contain a snicker as he caught the sarcastic flick of her eyes.
“Well then, that’s all sorted. I’ll leave you to it,” M Damocles said with a note of relief in his voice, glad the translation problem was no longer his. He strode off, leaving Marinette behind. She watched him leave with a surprisingly reluctant expression, even though he’d proved utterly incompetent.
“So, you’re new here?” He asked in Mandarin. Marinette swung her head around, blue eyes wide and frightened again.
“Y-yes.”
“I’m A-.”
“Adrien Agreste. I know,” She interrupted.
“You do?”
Marinette seemed to realise what she’d done and turned bright red.
“I mean, you already said so. Earlier. I’m not the best at French but I know when someone’s introducing themselves.”
“Right…” It didn’t explain knowing his last name, he’d never given it, but he wouldn’t be surprised if the Agreste name had made it as far as China. He moved on to the side on his bench and held his hand out to offer the seat beside him. “Do you want to sit down?”
“Okay.”
She sat, bouncing her leg as she looked everywhere but at him. Had she understood him earlier with the pasta thing? He searched his head for something to say before the silence lingered too long and it became impossible to breach.
“You have pasta on your shoulder.”
Not that!
Marinette squeaked, shaking it off and then removing her jacket altogether. She groaned into her hands. Adrien scrambled desperately for something not related to pasta to ask.
“I- I noticed you have a French word in your name?”
“Oh, yeah. My Papa is French but we’ve lived in China my whole life. Never really tried to learn the language. Regretting that now.” She laughed dryly at her own expense. Adrien smiled at her when she looked up and she immediately went back to staring at the ground, furiously tapping her foot.
“Why did you move, if you don’t mind answering?”
“To go here. To learn art at this school and become a fashion designer. I applied ages ago, I didn’t think I got in. Didn’t think I would get in.” She leaned back from hunching over, her voice getting a little louder as she settled. “That's probably why I didn’t really try to learn French but now I’m here and I don’t know a word and it's going to screw everything up. I couldn’t find any of my classes and then this- this, bitch, threw her pasta all over me when I couldn’t understand her. She had a claim over the table I’d chosen, apparently. People had been warning me and I couldn’t understand them fully to realise. How am I supposed to become a famous fashion designer if I can’t even say it in French!”
Marinette clamped her mouth shut and turned to Adrien with an alarmed expression. His Mandarin wasn’t good enough to have kept up with everything but he got the gist. She was completely lost and alone.
“I’m so sorry. You don’t want to hear about that. You’re the one saddled with teaching me and now I’m dumping this all on you. You really don’t have to.”
Adrien looked across the school yard to where all the other students had gathered, talking amongst themselves. Groans about homework, whispers of gossip and cheers as one student presented a graded project. He’d never once bothered to join in. Now he was sitting with this girl who was on the outskirts like him and she couldn’t join in even if she wanted to. The voice that told him to shut everyone out could be ignored for now. She would be his exception.
His only exception.
(He didn’t know now but soon he’d make another. For a girl with fire in her soft blue eyes. He’d look into those eyes as her hand reached to save him and know he’d have to make another exception. But that would be the last one) (Until the next.)
“It’s alright. I’ll teach you French until it's better than your Mandarin. And you can help me improve my Mandarin in return. Does that sound like a deal?”
Marinette looked down at the hand he’d extended then up at him, her eyes flooding with relief. She shook his hand, grinning from ear to ear.
“Deal.”
-
OK OK OK OK. I hope you liked it, i hope it was good. Let me know or whatever. Please reblog blah blah blah and have a good day
I would write more but I have so many WIPS and I’m trying to overcome doubt in my writing so I can just write again. This is an AU to the movie’s canon but also can be applied to the show if you want. I’ve also added my own slight headcanon that Adrien was only homeschooled during the period of his mother’s sickness and ‘death’ as my interpretation of the canon given to us in the movie. Take it or leave it. So he was friends with Nino prior to everything but he’s since shut him out.

call it even ch 3
“I hate him,” Marinette said, throwing her backpack down. “He’s awful. He’s cruel, manipulative, controlling—”
“I thought you had decided to give him a chance.” Alya climbed up through Marinette’s trap door and shut it behind her.
“That was last week. I’ve been right to despise him all along, actually.” Marinette plopped down in her computer chair, spinning until her dragging feet stopped her. “He sucks. He’s ruining my life.”

my piece for A Small but Stubborn Fire Ch. 12 under the big bang! if you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend! Its such a good depiction of a mother's anxiety and multi-racial family living. A lot of Marinette's and Sabine's dialogue are also pretty funny and very alike lol

Love Ballads-Ch.2
START
"Hello, Adrien!" chimed Lila, placing the call on speaker, "Are you as excited for today's date as much as I am?"
"Hello, Lila." Adrien acted, "Yes. I'm excited, as well."
Lila smile grew as she looked in the mirror. She had chosen the perfect dress to make him fall for her.
Tumblr media
"I can't wait to see all our friends again." Adrien smiled, knowingly spoiling her plans.
"What?" she asked, dropping her mocha lipstick.
"Yeah, it's already been approved by Father." the model continued, "Every Saturday is couples night with our friends from College."
"Really?" asked Lila, as she started to bite on her thumbnail.
"Yep." Adrien smirked, "Nino suggested it."
"Who else is going?" she asked, staring at her tangerine dress.
"I don't know really, just that it's mostly couples." he stated, "Anyways, I just texted you the address. I'll meet you there."
"Oh?" she whined, "You're not picking me up? Boyfriends really should-"
"No, I have to leave early. I have a shoot at dawn, but you're welcome to catch up with everyone. I can't wait! " Adrien replied, before hanging up on his supposed girlfriend.
'How could he just ruin my plans like this? He was suppose to be a good boy and pick me up for our date! He was suppose to take me to dinner so I could show all of Paris he's mine! I can't even dress up, but I can't go casual either. Time to make Agreste Jr see what he's missing out on.'
"Casual yet flirty." she smiles, putting together her new outfit.
Tumblr media
"Adrien, Bro!" Nino cried as he pulled his best friend into a hug.
"It's good to see you too, Nino!" replied Adrien with a hug.
"So where's Lila?" Nino asked, breaking the hug.
"She's on her way. I got a shoot at dawn so I thought it was better to come separate. I didn't want her reunion with you guys to be cut short on my account." the model smiled.
"Hey, Sunshine!" called Alya, enveloping him into a hug as well.
Soon everyone was pulling him into a hug until only Marinette was left.
"Hey, Marinette." Adrien smiled.
"Hey, Adrien." she smiled in return, "It's good to see you again."
'No stutter? When did that happen?'
Suddenly, he was enveloped by the scent of lilies and rain as she hugged him.
"You too." he smiled, faintly recalling his mother, "What have you been up to?"
"Um, university." She mumbled, "I'm in the fashion program."
"I knew your sketches were amazing!" Adrien grinned, "Are you here alone?"
"Oh! Um, no. I-I came with Nathaniel." Marinette answered.
"Oh. Um, that's nice." murmured the young model, only to receive a nod, "How long?"
"Four months?" she questioned.
"So, it's still new?" he asked.
"Yeah, thought I'd give it a shot." Mari shrugged, receiving a curt nod in return.
"Alright; it's time for the duet!" cried out Alya.
Everyone groaned in response.
"Oh, stop it! We do this every week. So, who's starting?" she asked, looking around the room, "Sunshine, you're up."
"I don't have-" he began.
"Mari, join him." interrupted Alya.
Marinette groaned, but still got up from her seat. Adrien and Marinette took the stage and grabbed a mic.
"Babe!" hissed Nino.
She shushed him. Alya ignored the looks thrown her way from everyone else. Yes, she knew that Marinette was technically seeing Nathaniel, but she also knew her girl wasn't in love with him. Maybe, a tiny part of her hoped, now that they were older, Adrien would finally see how amazing Marinette was.
"So, how do we do this?" Adrien questioned.
"Hit the random button and we sing whatever comes up." Marinette answered.
"Okay." he replied.
'That's simple enough.'
They watched as the song list shuffled rapidly before settling on 'Why Don't You Love Me'.
Adrien noticed the petite designer freeze up and the room became silent.
"Um, is-is this okay?" the model asked, confused by the air in the room.
"Uh, ye-yeah." she replied, taking a deep breath. Marinette turned and smiled at him.
"Ready?" Mari asked.
"Yep." he smiled.
Adrien closed his eyes and gulped. It was his first time singing in front of his friends.
'I can do this.'
youtube
See , I can't wake up
I'm living a nightmare,
That keeps playing over again
Locked in a room so hung up on you and you're cool with just being friends,
Left on the side lines,
Stuck at a red light,
Waiting for my time and I can't see
When the duet began, Adrien turned his head towards his partner and smiled as Marinette sang beautifully along with him. She belted out the melody, perfectly.
Why don't you love me,
Touch me,
Tell me I'm your everything
'Wow. Marinette's just as amazing as always.'
The air you breathe,
And why don't you love me,
Baby,
Open up your heart tonight,
'cause I could be all that you need,
Oh,
Why don't you love me?
Why don't you love me?
As Marinette began to sing her part, Adrien found he couldn't look away from her.
See I'm just to scared to tell you the truth,
'cause my heart, it can't take anymore.
Adrien took a step back, as she suddenly turned and looked at him as she sang. Suddenly, it was like she was only singing for him. It was hard to fight the blush that was trying to take over his face.
Broken and bruised,
Longing for you and I don't know,
What I'm waiting for.
Left on the side lines,
Stuck at the red light,
Waiting for my time,
Taking a deep breath, Adrien returned the melody with as much passion as she did.
So just tell me,
Why don't you love me.
Adrien couldn't help but smile, as a blush overtook her face when he sang back to her.
Touch me,
This time her eyes were on him.
Tell me I'm your everything
The air you breathe,
And why don't you love me,
Baby,
Open up your heart tonight
'cause I could be all that you need
Oh
Why don't you give me a reason?
Give me a reason
Please tell me the truth
Please tell me the truth
You know, that I keep believing
I keep believing
'til I'm with you
Adrien slowly reached out and grasped Marinette's hand.
Why don't you love me?
Startled, Marinette quickly looked at their hands, before returning her gaze back at him. Only when she looked up, she found he had closed the gap, bringing their hands to his chest.
Kiss me
She couldn't help but look away.
'Why does it feel like I'm begging for a kiss?' she wondered.
I can feel your heart tonight
It's killing me (killing me)
So why don't you love me?
Touch me
Tell me I'm your everything
The air you breathe
And why don't you love me?
Baby?
Open up your heart tonight
'cause I could be all that you need
Oh
Why don't you love me?
Why don't you love me?
Why don't you love me?
Why don't you love me?
Why don't you love me?
As the song ended, Marinette quickly set down the microphone and hurried to her seat. She took a deep breath as she calmed her traitorous heart.
'It wasn't a confession; I have Nathaniel! I can't fall for Adrien again! This is suppose to be my time to get over him!'
Confused, Adrien sets down his mic on the stand. As he went to his seat, he noticed Alya looking at her phone.
'Was I that bad?'
"Congrats, Man! You killed it with that song!" Nino claimed, clapping him on the back.
"You both harmonized beautifully." stated Luka.
Mari blushed in response and took a sip of her drink. Luka had never said that about her and Nathaniel. She decided it was best to ignore him, missing Alix elbowing him in the ribs.
"Hey, I found someone." called Nathaniel as he entered the room.
"Adrien!" Lila cried, throwing her arms arounf him.
"Lila?" he questioned.
"I tried calling you when I got here, but-" she sniffed.
'I completely forgot she was coming. I was having fun, too.'
"She was a little lost and once she mentioned Nino, I figured she was with us." intervened Nathaniel, while Lila buried herself in Adrien's shirt.
"Thanks, Nathaniel. Sorry, I had the first song so none of us heard my phone go off." Adrien winced.
Lila took a look around the room. It really was people from their college days, including Marinette. Lila smiled in Mari's direction, as she hugged Adrien tighter. Marinette rolled her eyes in response to Lila's childishness. Adrien sighed at the girl's actions towards each other.
'Right, they never got along. Marinette was the only other person who figured out Lila's a scheming manipulator.'
"It's so nice to see everyone again!" greeted Lila.
Adrien ignored the excitement in the room, as Nathaniel went over to Marinette and took the seat next to her.
Five more songs were sung before the alarm on his phone went off.
"Sorry, everyone." Adrien stated as he stood up, "I have to head out. I have a shoot at dawn."
"Yeah, better get your beauty sleep, Model Boy." teased Alya.
Everyone quickly pulled their old friend into a hug.
"Do you still play?" asked Luka, as he patted him on the back.
"Yeah." the model answered.
"We should try and jam on one of your off days." Luka insisted.
"Right, cause those exist." Adiren chuckled, "Maybe one of these Wednesdays, whenever we hit your place."
"Sounds great!" replied Luka, "Mind if I get your number?"
"Oh, me too!" cried Alya.
"Same!" shouted Ivan.
Soon everyone was inputting their number into his phone. Lila latched onto his arm as everyone played 'Pass the Potato' with his phone.
"Oh, I forgot the best part!" Adrien interjected, before she could try and talk her way out of it, "Lila is staying! She told me how much she was excited to see everyone again. Right?"
"Of course!" she smiled.
'Again! How does he keep ruining everything? It wouldn't have taken much to walk out to the car with him for some privacy and leave these losers here. At least I have a toy to play with. Time to go for the kill.'
"So, Marinette." Lila prodded, knowing that being with Adrien must be killing the so-called designer, "How long have you and Nathaniel been together?"
Marinette giggled, "Four months."
"What's so funny about your dating life?" she asked, catching Nathaniel attention.
"I can see why you and Adrien are going out." Mari answered, "You're so much alike."
"What do you mean?" Lila questioned.
"Adrien also asked about my dating life." Mari smiled, as Lila simmered in her anger.
'This is not how this was suppose to go!'
"Adrien asked about us?" asked Nathaniel.
"Yeah, well, you were in the restroom and he asked if I was here by myself. Once I told him I was here with you, he asked 'how long' as well." Marinette said, before clapping as Alya took the stage.
'Why would Adrien want to know about if Marinette was here by herself? He's dating Lila; a model! At least she didn't deny it, right?'
"Did you ask about us?" asked Lila, interrupting his thoughts.
"Nope. In fact I had no clue he had a date til you arrived. We sang the duet, at Alya's insistence. He sang since it was his first night and Nathaniel wasn't here." replied Marinette, as she looked at the drink menu.
Lila simmered throughout the night as her scheme crumbled. Marinette didn't seem remotely jealous of her relationship with Adrien Agreste. She was too busy dating the redhead. It made her sick to see them so affectionate with each other.
Marinette on the other hand was eager to get home. Nathaniel was acting weird. She wasn't one for PDA. They had held hands and she's kissed him on the cheek before rushing off to class, but for him to drape his arm around her...it was too much. Mari smiled and lowered his arm off her, before excusing herself to go to the bathroom.

Wherefore Art Thou My(stery) Lady
When a failed attempt to let Chat Noir down easy ends with Ladybug learning his name, she does what any lovesick teenager would do: teases him mercilessly. Ch 1 Ch 2 Ch 3 Ch 4 Ch 5 Ch 6
Chapter Seven (Final)
Adrien – Good morning. I love you.
After sending that message first thing every morning for a week, Adrien knew better than to expect an answer for another hour, probably two because it was a Saturday. No school to look forward to, but he did have a group brunch date. Nino and Alya had organized it and invited Adrien and Marinette along, and Adrien was left to wonder if that had been part of a plan to set the two of them up.
He took his time showering and getting ready. He knew it was silly, but he wanted to make sure he looked his best.
By the time he got back, Ladybug had sent him a text.
My Lady – Love you too. ❤️ Figure me out yet? Adrien – Actually, maybe.  My Lady – Really?! Adrien – It's still just a theory, but I know how I'm going to test it later.  My Lady – I look forward to it!
If he was right, she would. It involved a lot of sappy staring at Marinette.
Brunch wasn’t for another half hour, but he told Nathalie and the Gorilla to drop him off earlier than he needed to be there. It was something he often did, a way to get as much time out of the house as possible. They hadn't caught on yet. (Or if they had, they'd never said anything about it.)
The place they had chosen was small, but Alya swore they had the best pancakes this side of the Alps. Adrien planned on having everything with way too much syrup.
He found a good seat near the center of the room and texted Ladybug while he waited. Was she getting ready to come to the same spot? If she was, she gave no indication that she'd be seeing him later, just asked what his plans were for the day, as if she honestly had no idea. He leaned back in his chair as he waited for the others.
Waiters passed with steaming plates of eggs and croissants and coffee. People bustled in and out around him, saying good morning to friends, enjoying the weekend. Adrien hardly noticed any of them until one of them yanked the back of his chair, almost pulling him down.
“You gotta be careful, dude. You could fall if you lean too far.”
Chairs scraped on the hardwood floors as Nino and Alya took the seats opposite him. It made sense that they would sit together, but was part of the reason to force Marinette to take the seat next to him?
“Lean over a little bit in that chair, Nino.” Adrien reached across the table to grab his hat, but Nino jerked out of the way. “Just so I know how far back I can go. That's all. I promise I won't knock you over.”
“You know, for some reason, I don't really trust you.”
“Marinette says she's coming.” Alya looked up from her phone.
“Did she sleep in or something?” Adrien asked. Knowing when she woke up would help him decide if he was right, though at this point he couldn't imagine how he could be wrong.
“No, she told me she's been awake for a while.”
One hour, he guessed, based on when she had started texting him back. He drummed his fingers, waiting for her to arrive. He needed to see Marinette. Once he saw her, he was sure he would be able to tell for certain.
Their server came a few minutes later, taking orders. Alya placed for Marinette after getting an assurance over text that she’d be there soon.
“She’s really excited about this,” Alya continued. “Like, texting me nonstop about it since she got up.”
“My condolences,” Nino said.
“Did she say what got her so excited?” Adrien asked.
“No,” Alya said, eyeing him. “Why? You think you know?”
Adrien just shrugged, pretending to look down to check his phone, though it was really to hide his face. Ladybug hadn’t sent him anything in ages, and the agonizing wait until he knew who she was was even more unbearable now that he had hope it was almost over.
Marinette came in, pulling out the seat next to his and scooting in until, probably on purpose, her knee brushed his.
“Good morning!” she said, face shining with excitement. She didn't look directly at him, letting him study her profile. The style of her hair was just right. Her freckles were the same. The curve of her lips. (He’d know those lips anywhere.) And he could see the corner of one blue eye. Exactly the right shade.
Marinette glanced over and caught him looking. The corner of her eye crinkled in amusement, then looked down as she slipped her phone into her coat pocket, her hand lingering out of view.
Adrien’s phone pinged with an incoming message. He looked at it reflexively as Marinette pulled her phone out again and laid it face up on the table in front of her.
“What's that, Adrien?” she asked. “Another text from your mysterious girlfriend?”
It was another picture of him, sent by Ladybug, taken just seconds ago. He whipped around while Nino and Alya laughed at him. People were coming in and out of the doorway, but no one that looked like her. He kept looking anyway because it kept him from looking at Marinette. It had been a picture of him and his friends at the table. Marinette had been sitting next to him when the picture had been sent. Ladybug couldn't have been her.
He'd been so certain... He'd been hoping it was her. He'd had such a streak of luck lately that he'd actually believed that he’d been fortunate enough to be partnered with Marinette. For a moment, he’d been able to believe that the two best girls he knew were one, and she loved him. Disappointment tasted terrible.
Ladybug probably wasn't going to be in the shot, but he held up his phone and took a picture anyway. He glumly turned back to the table and sent it.
Marinette's phone buzzed enthusiastically, and she swept it out of sight before Adrien could get a good look at it. All he caught was a glimpse of a room, filled with people and tables and an empty doorway.
“What?” Marinette asked when he turned to look at her. Alya and Nino both waited quietly for once, eyes flicking back and forth between the two of them.
Pulling the picture Ladybug had just sent, Adrien looked over it carefully. He was sitting with his friends, but only two of them. Marinette's seat was still empty. The picture had been taken before she'd sat down. And really, there were hundreds of places to eat brunch in Paris. What were the chances Ladybug just happened to be going to the same one as him this morning?
Found you.
Adrien stared Marinette down. She stared back with the same practiced innocence Ladybug had given him a week ago when they'd first talked about the texting. There was no way they weren't the same person. Her mouth quirked the same way. Her eyes twinkled, whether in civilian clothes or in a red-spotted suit.
She was right. It was so obvious now that he knew what - who - he was looking at.
Marinette stayed silent through his whole examination, not raising a question until he pulled away and opened his texting app.
“What are you doing?” she asked. Her phone was face down on her lap.
Adrien – Hi
The buzz that Marinette's phone gave was much quieter, but he was still able to pick it out over the din of the crowd.
She clenched her hand around it but didn't look away from him.
Adrien – I Adrien – Love Adrien – You Adrien – My Adrien – Lady
With each message he sent, Marinette's phone buzzed again. The neutral look on her face started to crack.
“Aren't you going to answer those?”
“No.”
“Why not?” he asked, grinning. “They could be important. Could be from your boyfriend or something.”
“Seeing as I don't have a boyfriend, Adrien,” she put extra emphasis on his name, making sure he knew it was his fault that she didn't, “that would be kind of impossible.” She pressed the phone into her leg to muffle the vibrations.
“Maybe we can fix that?”
He held up his phone right to her face and snapped a picture.
Another photo message flashed across her screen, and Adrien could see how it lit up the cloth around it.
“Admit it,” he said. “I figured you out, My Lady.”
“You did, Kitten. Good job.” Marinette held out her phone to him. The screen was full of a picture of her face. Sender: Future Husband.
Nino was offering his congratulations. Alya was sighing dramatically and saying “finally!” over and over, but Adrien had all but tuned them out. Marinette was Ladybug. He knew who she was.
And he still couldn’t kiss her. Not the way he wanted to with their friends watching.
Instead, he grabbed her hand and slowly turned it palm down, placing a long, slow kiss on the back, a promise of things to come.
When he looked up, Marinette’s cheeks were tinged with pink, but she quirked her eyes with a questioning look. That’s it? she silently asked.
He winked at her, and her blush deepened. “Later,” he mouthed.
---
“I have one question about all of this,” Adrien asked as they walked down the street. “What was the obvious hint that I missed? I know I talked to you a few times that day, and I can't figure out what it was. The offer of help?”
Nino and Alya had completely ditched them the moment brunch was over. Alya said normally they’d make up some excuse to manipulate them into being alone together. She’d paused dramatically to look at their intertwined hands before claiming she didn’t think she’d be needing schemes anymore, then told them to take advantage of the alone time. Adrien had promised her he would, all while Marinette sputtered in embarrassment.
“I made a cat pun,” she said. “A terrible, awful, bad cat pun. And I am ashamed.”
“What was it?”
“No way! I am not saying it again!” Her emphatic arm movements were hampered by his grip on her hand, but she didn’t seem to mind.
“Marinette.” He slowed, and pulled on her arm until she stood facing him. They’d started their relationship hidden from everyone, with secrets and texts and masks coming between them. Now they were in public, where anyone could see them. “Can I kiss you?”
“I think I’ve waited long enough,” she said, tilting her head and closing her eyes.
“You?”
Her eyes snapped back open, though her head remained at the perfect kissing angle. “Yes, me. I didn’t think it was going to take you that long. I was dying!”
He took a step back, grinning. “I’m not sure if I want to kiss you now after all. Middle of the sidewalk’s probably not the best place for–”
Marinette pulled him down and planted her mouth on his, and his teasing argument died. Adrien felt like he was melting, being molded into a shape that fit her better.
She pulled away too quickly, resting her forehead against his. People walked around them, just two regular teenagers kissing in public.
“Technically,” he said after catching his breath, “I think that was just you kissing me again.”
“You were kissing me back. It counts.”
“No.” He let go of her waist to cup her face. “This is me kissing you.” And he lowered himself to meet her.
The End

Next up is a one-shot featuring half-reveal, pre-relationship Ladynoir, and an akuma whose power is to throw them into fanfiction tropes. Super fun! Plus a project that’s going to feature a lot of love square kisses! (Okay, well, actually two future projects fit that description, haha!) I hope you stick around! Thanks for reading and for all the comments!
I don't think I ever directly linked the artwork that goes along with this story, so here they are! Cover Ch 5 scene
