I had a speech planned for today. It was about peace and love and hope. But I think I left something out. I ignored something that was true. I denied something that is undeniable. We are angry! I am angry. I have been hurt. My Dad was killed when I was nine years old. My Mom was taken from me before I could even remember her. It hurts! I feel pain about this and I am angry! We all want peace and we all want love. But violence tests us.

Jesiba Vael | Seldarine Drow | Life Cleric of Kelemvor | Neutral Good

Jesiba is actually an NPC I created while running a Lost Mine of Phendelver campaign. She became a favourite among the PCs, and ended up becoming a favourite of mine soon after when I played her during a oneshot. Now I’m excited to see how her story will fit into the BG3 plotline, since she’s originally from Balder’s Gate anyway.

Her backstory summary is written out below, partly for my own amusement, but also since everyone else on the hype train seems to be sharing too:

Daughter of the Final Judge

Jesiba is a Seldarine Drow, but only a generation removed from being a Lolthsworn. Her family was originally from Menzoberranzan, but her parents fled to the surface before she was born. Her mother and father were from rival families who were attempting to overthrow the other for political power (very Romeo and Juliet). Jesiba grew up the middle child with an older and younger brother in the lower city of Baldur’s Gate where her parents had sought sanctuary and eventually started serving in the temple of Kelemvor -- one of the only temples who would take in drow.

Jesiba was orphaned as a teenager when a group of underdark assassins hired by her maternal grandmother found them and killed them in their beds in the middle of the night. Jesiba only survived because she’d snuck out to go meet a young man for a tryst. When the assassins realized they’d missed one of the children, one of them reanimated the bodies of her family with necromancy and sent them after her. When they found her, the boy she’d gone to meet was killed in the attack, and Jesiba fled to the only temple she could: the temple of Kelemvor.

The paladins and clerics heard her screams for help and were able to deal with the undead and the assassins, but Jesiba was so horrified by the experience she was catatonic for weeks, and when she finally did regain her senses, she refused to leave the safety of the temple. Since her parents had served there, the temple took her in as a ward, caring for her and eventually training her as a cleric when she showed an aptitude for channeling Kelemvor’s will. She eventually became a proficient healer, skilled at preserving life and sealing wounds. But by far her greatest strength is channeling her lord’s fury in order to destroy the undead and reanimated, and all those that conjure them.

She is one of several (along with some paladins) who are frequently dispatched to deal with rogue necromancers and give final rites to those who’s had their bodies desecrated with reanimation. I like to believe it’s while she’s out on one of these jobs that’s she’s snatched by the nautiloid.

Side note: I don’t like to give all my characters tragic backstories, but I feel like it’s kind of a occupational requirement for anyone hailing from the Underdark. Also I like to imagine that Jesiba’s “guardian/daisy” looks just like the young man she snuck out to see all those years ago. She hasn't been romantically involved with anyone since, so I'm excited to see if that may change during the BG3 story...

As the Coffeelorian's side blog, I felt that now would be the best time to start making moodboards for my favorite fictional characters, and possibly also design them an outfit or two using already-existing clothing samples.

Therefore, in honor of this thread , hopefully people can view this as the first of many moodboards for Captain Tukk, as I'm sure there will be others who do this besides me.
