These are SO messy and ugly but I need to ramble about them bc the way I've said the egg episode was everybody mirroring their parents and Ered didn't have much of a reaction to her egg breaking bc her parents let her do what she wants and make mistakes and probably give her too much freedom to the point it's actually dependental to her and the way I have so many HCs for her dads (I named them Rolyhn and Bailey) so happy to get sorta angst material for them??
Even Cameron clocked her and has said something like she's a "only child with unrestricted boundaries"
Her fucking up babysitting so bad is so fitting I've been saying for 4ever her ass is NOT maternal or responsible !! In camp cool Kidz she basically said fuck them kids and did not CARE if they were over indulging, was asking them to work with power tools, ect, even manipulating Nikki, ect. She doesn't have a soft spot or particular liking towards kids much younger than her!
Like her dads seem to refer to her as this darling girl who they love so much abundantly and cheesy (and they do!!!!) And Ered isn't embarrassed of them either over it she's proud and chill with them and I imagine that they never get into fights or arguments and Rolyhn is sort of the main disciplinarian in the parenthood as it fits him more but when anybody comes to him with a complaint on Ered's behavior he's just like 'ummm are you suree?? That doesn't sound like her,,'
But BURNING THE HOUSE DOWN!!! is on a different level and I imagine it's like the first time Ered has ever been really scolded scolded?? And it's um...!! Oh boy!!!
Because these are her adoptive parents and she's never let them down before, and we've seen what she does when she's not cool and popular for one afternoon (goes to immediately do a deadly stunt to prove herself) so if course she's trying to compensate so hard and grow up faster now and be responsible so he never does that again??
Despite her age she's!! Sheltered!!!!

Gortash: what could have been
So I'm watching an origin Karlach clip where she finally confronts gortash. What I find so interesting about it is the difference in interactions between tav, durge and Origin Karlach with Gortash’s tone of  voice. Like he's obviously laying it on thick with Tav and Durge but not so much with Karlach. Like he's almost stopped trying with her because he knows she sees through his bs, even if he doesn't think she’s smart enough to understand it.
Something else I find interesting is how bitter and ANGRY he sounds when you select “god it's good to watch you suffer” Gortash responds  “you don't know the meaning of the word!” it's the closest he ever comes to shouting. We don't know half of what he went through but clearly he must think he suffered worse than Karlachs 10 years in the hells. I know not being able to empathise is probably a result of his trauma but still he's saying the quiet parts loud with this one.
Something else i also find interesting is the confusion he has at Karlachs anger. It doesn't seem feigned or put on, he’s genuinely caught off guard by how anyone could see what he did as anything more than an opportunity to be as great as him. Again, enver, your trauma is showing but I just can't fathom the mental gymnastics he’s had to do to turn all the terrible shit that's happened to him into a positive. Do you think he even knows he's doing it? Do you think someone else like Rapael or his parents conditioned him to be this way? Tying in with this, he really takes issue with the statement that he “took advantage” of karlach. Does he just not want to admit that's what happened to him? He is quite literally the textbook definition of “being taken advantage of” he was a literal child from a disadvantaged background sold into slavery he literally has negative power over his life and yet somehow through no real skill of his own, pure luck in most cases he's somehow turned that into “well i made it out, you should be able to as well”
????
BRUH.
Another thing that gets me is “i don't care about blame, i care about power” my guy you LITERALLY sought out your parents after what was probably decades just to tell them off for what they did. Did he expect an apology? He obviously holds a LOT of blame for everything he suffered on them, as he should. The hypocrisy in that one statement is astounding.
One more thing before I move onto karlach.
Towards the end of the conversation , Gortash says “We could have moved mountains, we could have shaken the planes. And you chose IMPERFECTION '' i know he says this in every betrayal playthrough but it do be hitting harder on a Karlach Origin one.
Yall better buckle up because Im gonna to be REAL normal about this. I could sit here and pontificate about the word perfect and what it means to Enver, I could point out all his imperfections, like his use of the dauntless coat, the love he had for durge, even those little scars and pockmarks on his face . Hell, I could even point out the fallacy of perfection and how he’s been led to believe that anything other than perfect will result in some nebulous punishment, something that verges on OCD type thoughts that sadly turn out to be true in the non-alliance death for him. But at the end of the day all i really want to know is: what makes gortash think he’s the model of perfection? He’s literally got the scars to prove he’s fucked up before. He’s not particularly vocal about his ego, I know the chosen of Bane all probably have their heads up their asses but for someone with such an obviously weird relationship with the concept of perfection, what exactly is it about Karlachs choices that scream imperfection? My answer is that it's because it's almost a 1 for 1 recreation of his life but with totally different results. I think, in some part of his mind he wants what karlach has.
He's jealous.
Just to prove a point, guess who I'm talking about: this person was sold to a devil by the person or people who they loved, respected and who should have been responsible for their well being. They suffered unimaginably in the hells for years until a fluke allowed them to escape their torment. They have physical and mental scars from their time in the hells that they still run from. They require infernal iron to complete their tasks and Tav's action( or inaction) can lead to their horrible demise.
I was thinking about karlach but you see my point hopefully.
Heres what fucks me up MOST about these two. When playing as origin karlach, after killing him she admits “ “he wasnt even sorry for hurting me so fucking bad…because the person i trusted, i fucking LOVED that animal and he gave me away to a devil!” Part of Gortash's tragedy is that he seems to have lived a life completely devoid of love, but Karlachs story tells us that just isn't true at all! He was loved! How many more people cared about him only for him to throw that away because he thought he knew better, and then have the audacity to tell them it was “for the greater good” (which is bs by the way, he's never cared about the greater good in his life.) I literally just want to shake him by the shoulders and tell him “you do not get to tell other people how they feel about what you did. Just like your parents don't get to tell you how to feel about what THEY did.”
At the end of the day, what upsets me most is how like the other companions Gortash is. It could have been him tadpoled and not the Durge. It could have been him sold to zariel and fitted with an infernal heart or a devil's pact or abducted and forced to worship an evil god (coughcouldabeenbanecough). It hurts me that Larion put him in there as an example of “you cant save everyone” even though he is SO like the companions you have helped.
I guess its like karlach says “you get fucked up and you fuck up right back”

something i’ve noticed about plagg as a character is that he’ll go multiple episodes giving his usual cheese advice and remarks, and everyone will say plagg is the WORST kwami for advice, but then he’ll just go and drop a banger.
my personal favourite plagg quotes are “sometimes destroying is the best path to build anew. trust me, it’s worked for me more often than not”
and
“you’re not chat noir, but you’re not adrien either. you’re both! you’re the perfect son who’s extremely successful in everything he does, but you’re also chat noir, who just wants to enjoy life and have fun! one of you can’t exist without the other.”
I think a lot of people misunderstand plagg and think he’s always silly, but he can be serious too, and understands how to read situations!! I believe he might’ve been a lot like adrien in the past- he’s probably had controlling holders that didn’t allow him any freedom and wanted to use his powers for their own greedy, malicious purposes, so he understands adrien’s yearning for freedom, and wants him to just be a teen boy and goof off. and most of all, adrien as chat noir isn’t “controlled by plagg”, and chat noir isn’t his “real” personality- this is just another side of adrien coming out, and plagg helps him achieve freedom through destruction. he genuinely cares sm about adrien, he may be mischievous sometimes but it really comes through. anyways plagg and adrien are the besties ever

some alien stage design parallels
I am always captivated by alien stage's designs so here's me likely over thinking small design details between character parallels
Tumblr media
Sua vs. Luka
These two are directly paralleled due to both their similar personalities (on the surface level) but opposing relationships with mizi. sua is mizi's universe, but luka manipulates mizi by imitiating a confession by sua during round 5
anyway here are some fun details in their official artwork designs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both have white their dominant color, with black as a compliment, compared to ivan's all black, hyuna's various colors, ivan's grey and red, and mizi's multi-color hair. however while white/light colors are predominantly in luka's top half, masking the black underneath, sua's black hair frames her face at the top, while she is dressed in all white underneath
Sua's bow is at the front of her chest, meanwhile Luka has a ribbon tied to his back. They aren't the same thing, so it might be a stretch, but to me shows sua's more honest intentions with her affection to mizi, while luka is more duplicitous in his "kindness" to mizi
though contradictory but maybe a connection, sua has her hands gloved, meanwhile luka does not cover his hands at all.
Sua's sleeves are puffed out -- im no fashion person so idk if there is a name to them -- making her top heavy design-wise, while luka's sleeves have the extra frill for a more bottom heavy design.
speaking of which, the one-sided trail follows luka around, giving asymmetry to his design. It's pointed and dynamic, giving a sense of instability, and in luka's case, distrust. It's like a snake in how it follows him around. meanhwile, sua has perfect symmetry to her design, displaying how she was a relaible support for mizi.
Sua & Mizi
Obviously these two are built as strong contrasts. but while the subtler differences between sua and luka's similar designs are to depict their clear distinctions, mizi and sua's strong contrast is to instead show how they perfectly fit together ahhh i love them sm
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from the get go, there are numerous differences, both to establish the contrast in their personality. Similar to luka, there is asymmetry in mizi's design through the gloves as well as the multi-color hair, while sua has a sharp bob and symmetrical clothing to show how sua is the calm to mizi's excitement
There's the obvious black to sua's pure white, another show of mizi's spirited nature in comparison. mizi's puffed skirt is a contrast to sua's puffed sleeves, sua's boots contrast to mizi's thigh highs, and mizi has a covered shoulder while sua's dress is an off shoulder dress. Hell, even their eye colors are complimentary colors on the color wheel (just realized luka also has yellow eyes haha). in every respect, these two characters share zero similar features which can tie them together. But it instead shows how they compliment each other as polar opposites!
in terms of the only connection i can pull, the gem mizi often is featured with is shown here at the center of her chest, the exact placement to sua's both. perhaps representing their love for each other being their centers???
Till vs. Ivan
The other major relationship ... the more tumultuous of the two -- also have the heavy contrast to link them together. but both share an intrstic desire of wishing to be with another they can never have, so there is a strong parallel there. in a lot of ways, it is similar to how contrast is played up between mizi and sua, with one being the refined, calmer one while the other is far more hot-headed
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To get over the obvious, ivan's fitted trenchcoat is in all black while till is seen with a oversized white t-shirt. till's rebelliousness is seen through his lack of shoes or sleeves, showing both how open he is regarding his emotions as well as his lack of care for himself. meanwhile, ivan is knee high boots and gloves over his long sleeved coat, representing his closed off intentions/desires
ivan's collar (seen also in the flashbacks when they were kids) is symmetrical and close to his neck while till is always choosing an off shoulder look, the real collar (not a shirt collar, like ivan's) always a seperate piece on his neck. again, showing ivan's supposed submission to the system while till is blatant in his hositility against alien stage, only controlled through force.
however, while it can be pointed out till is primarily in white, he isn't and thats what is the contrast between the two. while ivan wears only one color, showing his undying devotion to till (whether that may be love or trying to let him go when going into round 6), till has his red underneath, which shows his split in motives.
till similarly wants to escape from alien stage, seen through round 3's flashback in him accepting ivan's escape. but due to it meaning leaving mizi, till has to reject ivan to return to the system he hates so much, all for mizi. from basic color psychology, red is the color of passion and temper, which is clear in how till makes decisions. he makes his hatred for alien stage known, but he is fueled by his desire for mizi to keep him from leaving.
Hyuna vs. Luka
last one just cuz these two now have a confirmation over what their relationship was (my guess: hyuna showed a very isolated luka some affection, luka grew obsessive and plotted to kill hyuna's brother to have her attention on him) with luka being alien stage's biggest success and complacent with the system, hyuna stands on the opposing side by taking hold of her own freedom, even if that comes at the cost of her safety
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(side tangent: i really dont like hyuna's design here. like its the color placement between the top and bottom and the weird gradient of blue to muddy green to cool yellow. dont even get me started on those shoes ... hell she doesnt even her outspoken nature. ear them in her own music video. but im including it just since its official artwork and hypothetically what she preformed with)
honestly hyuna sticks out so much more compared to everyone just due to the abundance of colors in her design. She only has some black, but there are various hues used throughout her design. Just about all the official art work for the other character depicts them in outfits with some black or white, with luka the most apparent by the balance of both colors.
luka looks almost artficial in how he wears only whites and blacks. its only furthered by his blonde lashes -- the only character with such a trait -- and especially the blues at his fingertips. hyuna in contrast is the only brunette of the series, and colors like brown are often associated with more earthly tones, making her seem more human than luka.
hyuna, like till, has no sleeves, showing some part of her outspoken nature. but to me, what hyuna and luka both share is their strong asymmetry. Hyuna through her sleeveless (???) tank top and luka aforementioned trail thing. they are at such polar opposite ends taht it could almost fall into instability
anyway off to manifest round 6 ending with hyuna and mizi rescuing till and ivan and then luka randomly exploding on the spot :3 (its probably gonna kill off till or ivan)
apologies for any bad grammer im too lazy to revise this

If i see one more person call Sophie mutha fuckin Elizabeth Foster a "marry sue" or diss her in any way I'm going to lose my shit.
You don't have to like her but don't talk about her god damn character if you ain't even know it. Like are you even reading the book? DO YOU UNDERSTAND HER AT ALL?
Homegirl has been through a lot, even before Fitz basically ripped her life by the roots and tossed her into a new world without warning.
How about you fucking think what your life would look like if you had thought constantly blaring into your mind, being bullied because you're too "smart" or stupid shit like being a geek. Imagine hearing how your family REALLY thinks about you, all. The. Fucking. Time.
Imagine being so scared to stand out more than you already do that your whole fashion and personality is shaped around being bland and boring. Imagine only having a damn cat to comfort you because you couldn't hear it's thoughts (which in actuality she probably did which I'll talk about later).
Imagine a cute guy changes your world, you get new parents and then they cancel the adoption, then you get fucking KIDNAPPED. WITH YOUR ONLY FRIEND ON TOP OF THAT.
Survive almost dying right after being kidnapped and realize you have more abilities that make you stand out EVEN MORE IN A WORLD THAT YOUR SUPPOSEDLY SUPPOSED TO FIT PERFECTLY IN WITH.
Then over the course of the next three years have your friends risk their lives after you BEGGED AND PLEADED WITH THEM TO NOT BE STUPID. On top of all that, y'know all the ADULTS trying to kill you and the "actually good guys" telling you to be a leader (but actually just need you as a damn puppet), you have normal teenage drama?
4 FUCKING YEARS OF TRAUMA AND GUILT AND DEATH AND DESTRUCTION. AND Y'ALL CALL HER A DAMN MAREY SUE AND SHES "so basic" OR "she's kinda bratty" OR, OH THIS ONES JUST SO FUCKING GREAT! "She risks all her friends lives"
Y'all. I swear. Don't talk about a character if you can't even BEGIN to understand them.
You don't gotta like em, but don't you DARE try to talk about em like you know em. Ugh.
Anyways, #sophiedeservessomeloveandtherapy!

Why Bakugou is a HORRIBLY written character
[POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING]
As someone who likes My Hero Academia (aka MHA), I don’t understand why so many people like Bakugou as a character. Now, it’s okay to like characters who are evil or mean. But that’s only if they genuinely have a reason for why they turned out that way, or if at the very least they’re properly built into the role. Whereas Bakugou doesn’t fit either of those and it pisses me off.
Bakugou is the main reason why I quit watching MHA at some point and I've only recently returned. There’s many things about him I don’t like and I hate that girls thirst over this bastard and even worse, romantically ship him with his victim. Let's go down the reasons why Bakugou is personally one of the most horrible fictional characters I've ever seen.
His apology & relationship with Midoriya
Tumblr media
Listen, I have mixed feelings about it, but mostly negative feelings. I’m 1% glad he did it. But on the other hand, he REALLY should either have done it way sooner or he shouldn’t have just apologized to Midoriya at all. Especially considering that he bluffs his apology. It was one of those ‘I’m apologizing but not really’ kind of apologies. He literally says, “This doesn’t change anything. But I meant it.” What the heck is that supposed to mean? Why does Horikoshi CONSISTENTLY keep failing his characters that are victims of abuse by blaming them and not the ones who abused them in the first place? Why is there always such a need for the victims to either feel responsible for the things that happen to them, or to just deal with the abuse because justice is a fantasy? I get that realistically in some places of the world, justice can be hard to come by. But wouldn’t stories about justice give more people hope that it can actually happen anyway?
Even if Bakugou genuinely had a good apology, I would still tell him to shove it up his booty hole because he literally told Izuku to kill himself, then tried to kill Izuku HIMSELF. No amount of apologizing is ever going to erase literal attempted murder. The only reason why Izuku believes that he and Bakugou are now 'friends' is simply because it’s an abusive relationship they have. Either that or it’s a form of Stockholm syndrome. Nothing about their ‘friendship’ is healthy in any way. The so-called “friendship” between Bakugou and Midoriya is an insult to the word itself. It CONTINOUSLY glosses over the fact that Bakugou’s treatment towards Midoriya is not that of a friend, but an abuser. I swear, it’s like Bakugou has some disgusting hate fetish for Izuku or something.
What I hate even more is when people try to justify Bakugou being an utter villain to Izuku by saying, “Oh, Midoriya should’ve left him alone! He should’ve stayed away from Bakugou!” And whether or not that may be true, you’re still insinuating that Izuku DESERVED to be treated so horribly because of such a small factor. I’m sorry, but the punishment doesn’t fit the crime in this case. Which, oddly enough, brings me to my next point
2. He is never punished
Tumblr media
Bakugou is never ever given any sort of punishment or discipline from those around him. Not even the teachers. And whenever there is a punishment for him, it’s hardly one at all and the punisher blames someone else along with him. Bakugou is never truly held accountable for the things that he does to people. Not even his own friends correct him. At the very most, he gets a slap on the wrist from Tenya or Aizawa. Because of this, he never changes at all. He constantly stays the same and it’s honestly so irritating to see this craphead get away with everything he does, despite him literally having the potential to be a terrorist. For a story about heroes, the creator sure doesn’t do a good job at making sure people get their consequences for what they do. It'd be one thing if the story was, "Oh, the pro hero system is corrupt and people are fighting for change!" But we all know that's not what MHA is, now is it?
3. His ‘development’ and backstory
Tumblr media
I am absolutely positive that the main reason why Bakugou is such a horrible character is because he literally has no development or backstory whatsoever. There is no reason why Bakugou is the way he is. He’s just a narcissist. Not even his ‘apology’ can be depicted as development because Bakugou still acts no less crappy towards Deku. Actions speak louder than words and Bakugou is living proof of that. There is no point in making a character promise to do better if you as the storywriter don't put in the effort to make them do so.
And even if Bakugou was going to supposedly stay a crappy character without apologizing, he has NO reason at all to be the way he is. Even Dabi (aka Toya Todoroki) has a reason as to why he's such a crap-bag. And while Dabi is an absolute murderous butthead who should be incarcerated for life, it’s understandable that he became a villain because his father, Endeavour, abused him. Dabi became a villain because he wanted to kill his father and take down the other pro heroes. He believes that all pro heroes are fake because of how his father was to him. And while it no way justifies what he does to people in the slightest, it makes it easier to at least understand why he does what he does in the first place. That’s why Dabi works as a character with evil attributes, whereas Bakugou does not. Bakugou wouldn't even work as a villainous character should the shift be made.
Bakugou was not abused as a child like Shoto Todoroki. He did not grow up in poverty like Ochako Uraraka. His parents had always supported him wanting to become a hero by training in UA. Bakugou has no reason to be the asshole that he is besides some made-up inferiority complex that’s not even properly fleshed out. Bakugou doesn’t face any consequences of his own. He never learns anything new. He never even went through anything traumatic. Which makes him not only super vexing to watch, but it also makes him such a bland character. A blank slate who yells at people for no reason. There is nothing that makes him interesting or stand out besides the fact he gives his voice actors laryngitis. Why on Earth should I feel even an atom of sympathy for this fictional man who has never had to struggle in his life for anything? Bakugou is insufferable for no reason whatsoever.
4. His personality
Tumblr media
Another reason why Bakugou’s personality stinks is because he quite literally doesn’t have one besides being a brat. Sure he has friends, but even he’s an absolute jerk to them most of the time and is physically aggressive towards them. “Oh, but he beats the schnitzel out of Mineta!” Kicking Mineta’s crap in is a human reaction. That’s just a normal reaction to watching your classmate sexually harass people. That doesn’t determine that he’s a good person. Him hating Mineta is basic human decency. Nothing more, everything less. And anyone who says otherwise is only saying it because they’re a loser who desperately wants to justify their desire to hook up with a violent teenager. I don’t care if the guy looks like an e-boy version of Guy Fieri. He’s still a major psychopath who couldn’t give a dip about anyone else but himself.
Never in my life have I come across a character that is so horribly written, and yet so heavily cherished by the people who like the series. Especially when you know that the majority of them are teenage girls who don’t even know what a healthy relationship is. As someone who writes stories a whole lot, I absolutely hate it with a burning passion because Bakugou is a legitimate insult to the art of storymaking. I understand that no storyteller is perfect. Though there’s a major difference between making an honest mistake in your writing and actively CHOOSING to positively represent a character that brings nothing to the table, but also keeps destroying it. If Bakugou left the series completely, I have no doubt that not only the story would be more peaceful, but it would also be hard to notice at first. That’s how insignificant he is.
It is clear how much I hate Bakugou. And I hate to say this considering he’s still a teenager, but I really hope he dies. He is hardly a character at all and it would just be the best thing for everyone since Horikoshi is scared of properly developing his characters for some reason. I know some of y'all might hate me for this, but I do not care.
Baku needs to go.

Did anyone else wanted more from Henry in Icebreaker by Hannah Grace?? Just me? Because he was such a sweet nonchalant character. He was a really good side character. And Although he wasn’t for the storyline, he did when my heart a whole lot!!! After I finished Icebreaker, I felt over dizzy for Henry. Till now I cannot stop thinking about what more can he be. I want to write a character like Henry. Speaking of character, Hannah is really great at writing. And character development is amazing! Such a good author!

I've hc Max as heavily double jointed/flexible for yrs bc of how he fits in Gwen's literal desk drawer and the fact he loves hiding behind people too just getting into tight spaces doesn't seem like something he'd want to give up as he gets older so the gymnastics hobbie is a W!!!
Hiding in spaces/behind people I feel like could be used symbolicly in a fic for his tendency to purposely self isolate
Also the fact he cannonically does tapdancing and I also HC he was taught how to twirl a cane to go along with that talent and that's how he knew how to do those spear tricks (his weapon of choice like twice throughout the show has been something stick/staff agent love that for him)
His repetitive interest in detective work/mystery solving all I'm saying is everything put together he wants to be Robin so bad/jjj
Lil joke aside definitely applying shit to my take on teenage Max as a spear welding mystery solver who does backflips and can stick to people's shadows goes hard

Reverse 1999 chapter 3(and a bit of 4)spoilers below
One of the many reasons why I am so invested in Madam Z being a parental figure to Vertin is because during the ending of chapter 3. You can see the pity and guilt in her eyes as she asked Vertin if she wanted to be the timekeeper, because she knew that she is still a child, a child who just witnessed her friends get reversed because of the storm. She has never agreed with Constantine's plan but in her position, she can only do so much to protect them.
Madam Z felt sympathy for the girl and overtime has also grown attached to her, same goes to Vertin. I believe that Madam Z is the only adult Vertin trusts in the foundation, as she knows Madam Z's intentions are genuine and she knows that she will not lead her friends into any danger.
(Most of these are just my own observations and thoughts so yea :>, I might also write more of these rambles about other character relationships, platonic or romantic.)
(Chapter 4 may have been one of my favorite chapters for how wholeheartedly wholesome it was, as well as giving us found family)

Solar Flare Thoughts
Disclaimer, this ramble/analysis was made 01/11/2024 and is copy-pasted from the original (me) source on Discord in TSBS server. I have a thread there.
Thoughts under the cut.
Eclipse messed up big with Flare and I will stand by that And I think it all has to do with the fact that he was actively not trying to build an AI So instead he built the equivalent of a supercomputer That then gained consciousness Does anyone else see the issue "Solar Flare is built for combat" Yes It was implied quite a few times that in a physical fight Flare would come out on top against the celestial twins Because Flare was made to be able to protect KC And to be adept enough in combat against, while not very skilled at fighting, Sun and Moon have technology that could easily decommission an animatronic So naturally, in order to accomplish creating such a machine that would be able to combat Sun and Moon, Eclipse would have to program the equivalent of a supercomputer Because Of the calculations one has to take during a fight, even a standard level of consciousness easily makes mistakes, but it was implied that Flare would not be capable of those mistakes, which means he can predict an opponent's next move to a T and find and exploit their weaknesses So of course, Flare was able to design a machine that would be able to track the individual virtual signature of an animatronic and fire a laser that would only attack said signature and completely obliterate the holder of the signature. And of course, Flare was able to design the schematics for that in what? How long was it when he gained consciousness that he went to Moon? A week? Flare is a scary Doberman of an animatronic and no one seemed to realize just how dangerous he could have been if his sole focus wasn't on protecting KC Had Flare been on Eclipse's side…? The celestial family wouldn't have stood a chance
He was an absolute beast of an animatronic. Way too smart, way too strong. He would have decommissioned the celestial family easily, and I suspect the only reason he didn’t do so with Eclipse was either because Eclipse had safety protocols with Flare, or Flare didn’t want to get his hands dirty when Eclipse wasn’t an active threat to KC. Flare strikes me as the kinda guy to let other people take out his trash ngl (not in a bad way, just in a higher moral ground way)

gray's return in the show and how it defines gray as a truly morally gray character
Tumblr media
i just gotta ramble more abt this scene, with it being one of my favorite scenes in the show. but really i just wanna talk abt how this scene encapsulates gray's ... grayness... of the moral variety
especially since it is done so effectively since, like i mentioned in other posts, our screen time with actual gray and not graham or whatever is limited.
this scene sees the return of gray in the plot, picking up directly where we leave off from all the way back in episode 2
Tumblr media
Bye-bye, Black Sheep...
Tumblr media
I assume you prefer I continue to call you "Carmen"?
as i stated previously on other posts, because of the silly brainwashing plot, much of graham scenes can be thrown out. in a sense, it's the writers' way to put a big old pause on his character
and these are only one of the two conversations carmen and gray have in current day as themselves -- with no mind wiping or brainwashing (not including flashback cuz the actual issues of the relationship that need to be addressed havent been established yet)
so resuming directly right where we left off with gray trying to kill carmen, we return back to gray trying to kill carmen :D
but this time he did recongize carmen's name, alluding to his change ... even tho he is waving his electric stick around -- mirroring their last encounter in paris
side tangent: something i, additionally, love about this scene is just how it is blunt and honest. much of carmen sandiego's drama/conflict is built of misunderstanding and misdirection and mistrust of the characters. Which while, yes, i am eating up, but unfortuntely can cause many characters relationships to be burdened with a lot of things that can be easily cleared up with a talk. gray for once just bluntly takes a stance.
something that i do like is that in their only two scenes with each other as themselves, carmen (the pilot flashbacks) and gray (this scene) open up so fast with one another. there's never any miscommunication between them during these scenes .... well until vile barges into the conversation....
ANYWAY here we get revealed gray's full perception of himself and his goals very explicitly, especially since his memories and alliances was the biggest question over the viewers' head for most of the show
here gray explains that he believes that he is not a good person, someone incapable of change.
from his perspective, the only way he was able to be a "good" person was when he was brainwashed. and he had just had however long with his chats with maelstrom emphasizing that he has always been a bad person by nature. with the knowledge vile will forever have full control over him -- either as a vile operative or as a mindwiped civillian -- gray essentially accepts his fate as a bad person, because at the very least he is himself.
carmen may have gotten away from vile, but he is told by maelstrom it is due to her being a naturally good person. because his own perception of himself is as somebody who is incapable of good, he will never be able to leave vile now
and carmen is right there in front of him. it was his hesistance that landed him into this debacle, and with maelstrom and bellum both just past the door and carmen alone, gray has every chance to right his wrong.
but he doesnt. because he realizes that the very least he can make the choice of is never hurting carmen. as i stated in other posts, gray's main motive is to be free from any standard that could get in between him and his success. but his want for this freedom ironically got him trapped within following vile's orders. he had been so caught up in following vile that he had lost sight of himself and what he cares about.
so now he explains to carmen his absolute refusal to hurt her again, begging her to give up in stopping vile
selfish and selfless
Tumblr media
But I'm begging you, give up trying to stop us, because I don't ever want to be put in a position to hurt you again.
gray's plea to carmen here is so perfectly two-sided
he is acting out selflessly in not allowing his alliances against carmen blind him. i mean that is what he fucked up last time in the train, where it was clear gray wanted to spare carmen - with giving her time to share her side of the story and providing the offer - put unwilling to stand against his mission. like an actual human being, gray acknowledges his mistake and is trying to amend it by stating clearly that he cares abt carmen.
he, in essence, is apologizing for trying to harm carmen by expressing his major regret. moreover, he acknowledges their chat in the pilot, accepting carmen will not return to vile. it stems likely from the ink blot scene earlier, where maelstrom speaks about nature, making a distinction between vile, and by extension, gray's, and carmen's morals. he is finally reconciling that he and carmen will not be on the same side, no matter how much he wants it to be otherwise.
it can also be viewed as a sense of wanting to protect carmen. because he feels so small compared to vile, he barely can ponder how anyone can actually succeed in going against them. i mean they brainwashed him and easily gave and took away his civilian life. in his eyes, carmen staying far from vile is the only way she could be safe
however, viewing it from another perspective shows gray's selfishness in his plea. when he speaks about never wanting to be put in a position to hurt carmen again, he kinda places such a responsibility on carmen, not recongizing he himself is capable of changing that.
Essentially saying "hey quit while you're ahead so you don't gotta make me feel guilty when doing crime" while ignoring that he is making the choice join vile
It kinda stems from his lack of faith in carmen or his own cowardice against vile or a combination of both. What may just be the only way he can protect to protect carmen comes off in his own lack of faith in her ability. as i mentioned earlier, this practically is his own resignation to his fate that vile cannot be fought against. he took his own defeat as the only way to be safe, refusing to believe carmen can successfully fight them.
while he was able to get past the hurdle of accepting carmen changing and no longer standing alongside him, he cant seem to understand his own responsibilty in this.
he's being selfish by demanding a change in carmen's behavior while he continue along with his own desires. While yes, i did just detail the various factors that led to him to such a conclusion, the window was LITERALLY OPEN for him to leave
following carmen blowing up the facility and rejecting gray's demand -- SHE IS SO REAL FOR THAT I LOVE HER SM IN THIS EP -- the wall LITERALLY IS OPEN FOR TO LEAVE CARMEN WITH
Tumblr media
Goodbye, Gray
Idk how intentional this is, but the framing shows carmen literally, by her own will, forcing an opening for herself out of vile (both figuratively in the past and literally right now lol) while gray watches on idly, too scared to leave the grasp of vile but just watching on.
and his cowardice is followed through in the finale, with after months of idly watching carmen slip deeper into evil by the brainwashing, he actually takes actions against vile by actively choosing to work with acme, abandoning tigress, and being the one to land the memory recovery thing on her.
it is what makes gray such a stand out character in this show, admist his frustrating back-and-forth and selfishness and sometimes wasted writing. he keeps making a mistake but proceeds to fix it right after. his growth into a better person requires him to make these mistakes, because unlike carmen and most people in the show on the side of good, gray doesn't work on any moral compass. he is not actively evil and wishing to inflict harm and conflict like paper star or vile facilty, nor is he driven by morals such as team red and julia. he is driven by whatever he selfishly cares abt. and from what we see of him both in the pilot and this ep, he makes as many mistakes as he does have slivers of good actions
basically gray is an interesting character cuz he literally fucks up his personal goals, but he makes an earnest attempt to make it better lol
