It’s much worse being on the bike when he’s properly awake. Properly sober. Properly watching scenery fly by in a terrifying blur while he tries not to think about how nice it is having no choice but to be practically glued against Daniel. Has to be in order to keep them stable on the bike. To move at the same time while going far too goddamn fast.

He wonders if this is just how motorbikes feel or if Daniel is confident enough in his own immortality to be reckless about it. Jesse wouldn’t know. He’s only ever been in this position with someone who can’t die. And who—realistically he thinks—must not care if Jesse dies either.

They get as far as Monterey, Daniel leaves the main roads for dirt until they hit a cliff overlooking the bay. Maybe he is planning to kill Jesse tonight. Throw his lifeless body to the sea when it’s done and then go back to that little apartment and never think about him again.

It wouldn’t be surprising.

“I like the green,” Daniel says as he takes the helmet back from Jesse, who is dragging fingers through the hair he had dyed a handful of days prior. “It suits you better than the black did.”

Jesse curses the way his stomach flips at those words. Wonders how much better Daniel’s eyes are than his, if he can see where warmth is staining his face. “Thanks,” Barely audible, “where the hell did you drag me to?” it elicits a laugh that has him going redder, he can feel it.

Shit, he would give a lot of things to keep making Daniel laugh like that.

“Don’t worry, if I’d planned to kill you I’d have done it back home.”

“I don’t think that’s entirely comforting.”

“Good,” Daniel says, “it shouldn’t be.”

COTL / TROD AU Reference Sheets and OC refs that I made a few months ago and have been using but forgot to post. The cloaks on Narinder and Lamb, and heights and clothing of the bishops are semi-outdated, but the OC height sheet is accurate.

+ Joon, Grekimar, and Jayen refs. There's character lore and relationship info for them under the cut, I'll get to the rest of them eventually:

Character lore, mainly for artfight purposes but putting it here too. Some of this character lore is already established in fic or on here, but may contain spoilers for Trod later on.

😺Joon (They/Them):

Born and raised in the Lamb's flock with little outside wordly experience, the Yellow Cat aka 'Joon' is the best farmer in the flock with an upbeat attitude and a easy-going, casual outlook on life. They're a hard worker and a harder napper, which lands them in a particular situation when a accidental nap inside a barn leads to them witnessing the Leader drag in a bloody, confused, volatile worm The Lamb shakily says was rescued from Darkwood, before reluctantly leaving them to the yellow cat's care. Which is fine, because if the leader says it's fine, then it's fine. Totally.

With their accidental involvement, Joon is assigned to be Leshy's 'caretaker', or really just a supervisor to make sure the worm doesn't do anything terrible and to report to the Lamb if he does anything weird, all without ever being truly told of the worm's true nature.

🐷Grekimar (He/Him):

Originally a heretic in Anura, Grekimar is a 'relatively' new cultist to the Lamb's Flock ('New' being a few years, but still not as long as other flock members.) Although the pig used to conduct violence and sacrifices in the God of Famine's name, he was welcomed to the Flock as a new member after he began to question the strength of the rule of dead god and was exiled. His arrival was met with scrutiny but was eventually welcomed as he's a hard worker, and surprisingly (due to his gruff demeanor), cares for his new home and it's peaceful rules over his prior home, including it's inhabitants.

When a three eyed cat arrives and threatens the saftey of his fellow flock, Grekimar becomes a dissenter and questions the Leader's decision, joining alliance with The Lamb's highest disciple, Tyren, to scheme and kill the cat in order to protect the flock.

🐻Jayen (He/Him):

A kindhearted and rather soft-spoken soul, Jayen is 'gentle giant' archtype character. Brought to the cult as a cub, Jayen is an anxious 'left-over' type, with no particular skills or qualities that are seemingly 'useful' to the flock or it's Leader, and he is very self-consious about this. Switching inbetween jobs and struggling to find his place among the cult's growing number, Jayen is decayed and killed by a furious Narinder in an attempt to pull him off of The Lamb when the cat's dramatic initial arrival happened. He is later revived, now traumatized and with a heightened fear of death.

Although his murderer walks free, the same cat had revived him as well, so Jayen holds no ill will and would rather simply leave it all behind and not think about it all. However, he is roped into a scheme to kill Narinder by Tyren and Grekimar, with the former using the bear's fears of death to pressure him into helping.

Tyren's, Grekimar's, and Jayen's relationships:

-While Tyren is a loyal disciple and Grekimar a regular dissenter, both found common ground in wanting to Kill Narinder, though their reasonings differ. Tyren wants to kill Narinder being an obstacle to the Lamb, while Grekimar wants to rid of him for concerns to protect the cult. While they can put aside their differences to achieve their goal, Tyren's methods will make Grekimar reconsider his alliance with the dog.

-Tyren pressures Jayen into working with him and Grekimar under the guise that if they do not kill Narinder, then the cat will eventually kill him again. If that tactic does not work, Tyren will subtly imply that he will use his status in the cult to undermine Jayen, and possibly exile him for being 'useless.'

-Grekimar thinks Jayen a coward, and while he'll pressure the bear to do as he is told, the pig is conflicted about getting the bear involved.

their friends are maru, emily, gus, marnie and jas

they experience an agonising enemies to friends to lovers slowburn with shane because they have similar issues but cope with them in such drastically different ways (freddie is overly friendly and desperate to be useful, shane is rude to others and keeps to himself) that they decide to be super petty to one another at first, before eventually becoming each other’s ride or die. i love them your honour.

UNDERTALE AU INFO DUMP!!

Fineline is an undertale au that has been living in me and Bea's (writer for fineline and other stuff who is my irl bestie but doesnt have tumblr cuz shes a nerd) brain for the past 4 years and now it’s finally getting life.

Basically found family bad sanses with a lot of self inserts, random ocs I make them interact with, and a healthy dose of shipping.

Their physical designs aren’t too far from accepted fanon but I think their personalities are quite different.

Nightmare is a bit more chill and has massive gossipy wine aunt vibes.

Dust is just a tad stupid and the most extroverted of the group.

Horror is the resident chef and is a big softie with a scary face and no concept of societal norms.

Killer is the most different because he’s the calm, dead-inside always bored one, trying and failing to get the others to chill out.

It would be amazing to have asks for them to answer and be able to share their shenanigans with other people so I hope you guys like their silliness!

Hallo, Secret Society!

Es sind noch nicht mal alle Charakternamen beim alten Lied revealed (zumindest nicht offiziell lol), aber weil wir hier voll der Eliteclub sind und super exklusive Geheimrituale veranstalten, dachte ich mir, kann ich die Refs ja jetzt schon mal hochladen und mich dann ganz geheim und exklusiv über die Charaktere aufregen. 8D (An alle Leute, die mir aus irgendeinem Grund folgen, und keine Ahnung haben, wovon ich hier rede: hallo ballo. Bitte enjoye ebenfalls diese blonden Bastarde, wenn du möchtest. <3)

Royce’ Haare liebe ich immer noch so sehr. Sie hat null redeeming qualities bis auf ihren juicy ass und ihre Haare, das wissen wir inzwischen, und weil sie so eine dusselige Kuh ist, hab ich ihr sogar den letzten Friseurbesuch zum Ansatznachfärben gestrichen, weil ich so gerne Ansätze mache. Tja, Thaddäus. I hate to see a girlboss winning, it’s true. Ich mag aber auch ihre Tanlines irgendwie voll gerne, es ist fast schon ein bisschen charming! Fast. :-D

Bei Cru hatte ich am Anfang, als ich Designskizzen gemacht habe, Angst, dass er am Ende zu taveig aussieht, weil you know. I’m pretty good at drawing this specific kind of guy. Aber im Endeffekt ist er doch sehr anders geworden und ich bin mit dem Outcome auch sehr zufrieden. Wenn man den eine Minute zu lange in der Sonne stehenlässt, verwandelt er sich in einen Hummer. Oder er schmilzt und dann hat man eine Weiße-Schokolade-Pfütze …

Angel ist mir auch ziemlich gut gelungen, finde ich! Sie ist vom Gesicht her sehr visuell distinkt von den anderen und es war auch irgendwie cool, mal so deliberately fake und doll-like Features zu machen. 8D Props an den Chirurgen! (Sie hat auch ein bisschen was von Yoko SR. Rip.) Und ich liebe ihr kleines Diadem. Absolute babygirl.

Marcella hab ich, glaube ich, am meisten vorher vor mich hin designed und war nie ganz zufrieden mit ihrem Gesicht. Hauptsächlich konnte ich mich nicht entscheiden zwischen 2010-popular-girl-Pony und zurückgestecktem Pony … aber so mochte ich sie am Ende doch ein bisschen lieber. Sie ist so eine special little princess mit ihren roten Haaren zwischen all den blonden Losern, spot the main character! :^D (Und ich liebe es sooo sehr, dass sie canonically buff und breitschultrig ist like THANK YOU,,)

Cat guckt, als hätte sie gerade sämtliche Farbdämpfe eingeatmet und tbh checks out. Ich glaube, bei ihr hab ich den Vibe auch ziemlich gut hingekriegt und das fucking Tattoo ging dann auch klar, als ich erst mal eine Vorlage hatte. 8D

Ty … ist auf jeden Fall da. Leider. Niemand hat ihn eingeladen. Ich glaube, er sieht richtig aus, so wie er ist, auch wenn er sich anfühlt, als würde er Kevin heißen und hinter mir in Mathe sitzen und mich die ganze Stunde über an den Haaren ziehen. Was sehr akkurat ist, leider Gottes. Hör auf, so unschuldig zu gucken, Kevin, wir kennen alle deinen 4chan-Account.

Xander sieht einfach nur furchtbar aus I’m so sorry. Dieser Mann ist ein gebleichter Gorilla. Was auch absolut auf ihn zutrifft und akkurat seine Beschreibung wiedergibt, aber ich hasse das Design trotzdem. </3 Und so viel daran rumpfuschen, dass es am Ende nicht mehr übereinstimmt, wollte ich dann auch nicht. Some people are simply gorilla I guess.

Believe it or not, this is NOT an anthropomorphic wolf character, but she's actually a human/wolf hybrid. That's the crazy thing about Homobestia Syndrome: if you're really unlucky, when a hybrid than a full-human, you truly end up showing why the Latins dubbed it, "Man-Beast" Syndrome...

Misty has it the worst, out of all five Torres Sisters, to the point where she obviously looks like an upright wolf than an actual person. Now, onto the actual physical traits of the sheet...

*Ht: 5' 6"

*Arms are equal in length to legs

*One wolf leg and one human leg, causing an uneven walking nature that's made her dependent on skates for easier manueverability

*Wears clothing more appropriate for traditionally human proportions, so uses bandaging to cover the exposed limb areas

*Covers body, as much as possible: jacket, bandages, gloves, hood, neck gaiter...

*Nails: toenails more flat and surface-like, fingernails more pointy and wolfish

*One skate specialized for "paw" type feet, the other for more traditionally human ones

*Her human foot has no paw pad

*Entire body is covered in fur, making her one of the incredibly rare "raceless" type individuals, so to speak

*Gloves: top side is lighter brown, underside is darker brown

*No thumbs, only dewclaws in their places

*Torn left ear

*Female sex, despite male appearance

Artist's Notes:

Jeez, coloring the face and eyes proved a little more difficult, given the wand selected the entirety of Misty's... well, eyes and face, thanks to the thinner lines and widespread sharing of white coloring. Ah well, nothing worth doing is ever easy, ja?

I also originally planned for her to have glasses/shades, but I didn't feel like working them into a covered head/face and Misty often hopes having her eyes exposed would make her seem appealing.

To be honest, she does unsettle me a bit-- sorry, Misty, I know it's a sensitive subject for you --but who wouldn't feel unsettled by a deformed face of sharp, wolfish features and big eyes that somewhat blend into her fur? Crap, would a real-life version of her be terrifying.... And not just in appearances, admittedly, but she's more troubled youth than full-on sociopath, like her cousins are.

I've also found it a lot easier to start writing physical notes, again, in the description than the actual image.

Daniel looks as though he is wondering the same thing, mouth open to respond though all that comes out is an exasperated laugh. “I’m sorry, am I not living up to your Dracula fantasies well enough?”

“I—no—first of all, that isn’t—” Jesse is tripping over himself in a way he isn’t familiar with, “—you complained in your note about how fucking bright your apartment is—wouldn’t a coffin sort of, fix the whole need for blackout curtains?”

“Check back when I wake up early and burn the living shit out of myself, see if your suggestion still makes sense.” Daniel rolls his eyes, slipping a helmet from where it hangs off the handlebars of a motorcycle. Because of course there is a motorcycle.

Jesse’s stomach drops a couple feet.

Not quite to the ground but enough, enough that he stops.

“You’re bringing me back on…that?”

The quirk of an eyebrow, amusement in the smile that statement earns him. “I didn’t let you fall while you were unconscious did I? Don’t tell me this is the thing that scares you, Jess.”

rambling about gen and his similarities to the characteristics of a proper “yamato nadeshiko”

Part 1 (clothing) Part 2 (speech patterns)

In the previous 2 parts, I already talked a lot about how Gen’s clothing and speech are very feminine-coded, so it honestly doesn’t surprise me that he fits into this other feminine category.

What is Yamato Nadeshiko?

This name/term refers to a classically “ideal” Japanese woman. Yamato is an old name for Japan, and Nadeshiko is a delicate-looking, pink flower that is surprisingly hardy. Thus, a “Yamato Nadeshiko” exemplifies both the beauty and strength of the Japanese spirit. [EN wikipedia page for more general info]

Traits of one include:

beautiful both inside and outside

gentle/refined in behavior and facial expressions

supports the men in their life

inner strength -- resilience, mental fortitude, and/or being trained in weapons and self defense

generally of higher status (thus the ability to have nice clothing, be trained in weapons, etc)

Some of the first recorded instances of referring to people as a “nadeshiko” are in the poems of the [Manyoushuu] in 759 AD. In many of these instances, it’s believed the writers were referring to men rather than women. So, at least in the past, men could also be a nadeshiko. The current concept of a specifically female Yamato Nadeshiko didn’t appear until around the time of the world wars [JA ref].

Gen’s Related Traits/Moments

-Beauty and refinement

The classic Japanese standard for beauty includes long black hair and pale skin. A proper Nadeshiko also wears clothes that look nice and are tidy, but aren’t too flashy (aka wearing more subdued colors and subtle patterns). Gen does have pale skin and some long hair, but the long part is white ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

His stone world clothes do stand out among the characters because of them being very recognizably Japanese with a mix of modern elements (see Part 1 for more on this), but in terms of what kimonos CAN look like, his clothes are definitely subdued. Especially if we go by his original manga colors, he’s supposed to be wearing basic colors of tan, green, and white (until the timeskip outfit change).

He also has a habit of tucking his hands in his sleeves, which is likely based on ancient Chinese mannerisms? From what I’ve looked up, Japanese people haven’t really used the type of pose seen below. There are descriptions of [courtesans] hiding their hands in their sleeves as well as [women in the Meiji era], but you can see from the photos that they aren’t quite the same.

Regardless, it still gives off the vibe of being “proper.” A lot of traditional mannerisms and styles of clothing, hair, makeup in Japan did originally come from China, so I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to think that someone trying to be “proper” would imitate Chinese trends. (This could also be lowkey stereotypical, but that’s a different conversation...) Speaking of which, his tiny eyebrows are also likely inspired by hikimayu ( 引眉 ), which were also a style brought from China.

 Men and women did hikimayu. The above photo shows what a Heian era ruler would have looked like, with heavily plucked eyebrows and fake ones drawn high on the forehead. It seems like the size of fake eyebrows varied greatly, from tiny dots to large, thick ovals. This was one of THE trends of the time especially for women, and was considered very beautiful (esp. when combined with artificially blackened teeth).

One of the main ideas behind hikimayu was that getting rid of your real eyebrows made you much less susceptible to accidentally leaking your emotions to others via your facial movements. Gen does a lot of comedic reactions, but in more serious moments, he tries to cover up what he’s feeling. Hmm...

-Supporting men

Gen’s primary role is being a support for Senku (and originally Tsukasa as well). He reads Senku’s behavior and emotions, and acts accordingly. He always stays close to Senku’s side. The two of them scheme together. Gen often thinks about what Senku would want him to do or what would be best for the KOS. When Gen does something that benefits Senku and/or the whole team, he often downplays his role in its success.

For these reasons, Gen more than fulfills the support criteria. He can read those he’s supporting, is always close by, and makes decisions based on what’s best for others rather than just himself.

-Inner strength

This is another point Gen hits on really well. He looks weak and fragile, but is actually quite strong -- this is the core of a Yamato Nadeshiko.

We know he has a lot of stamina since he’s able to run extremely long distances, and over the course of the series there are subtle moments where you can see him building upper body strength as well lol.

But more than that, being a mentalist, he also has a lot of mental fortitude in both good and bad ways. He’s stared death in the face multiple times, but either used his own wit to escape or worked with others to come up with a plan to save everyone. However, he tends to keep his own emotions bottled up, despite helping others let theirs out and work through old trauma (like with Sai). There are very few moments where he lets genuine strong, negative emotions show. He wants to help others, but ignores his own need for help.

Other less common traits I’ve seen listed are things such as communication skills, enjoying simplicity, appreciating the beauty in ordinary things.

Communication skills fits well because well, you know. That’s what he does.

The other points make me think back to when he first asked for a bottle of cola. It’s something any modern person would think is so simple and commonplace, but in the early stone world it was like a treasure. Since then, Gen really hasn’t asked for anything. He’s received new things, like clothes or the deck of cards, but not because we saw him ask for them. Even in ch 222 when Senku specifically asks people to request things they want, Gen says nothing.

Jesus went away to lonely places to talk to His Father, to help get Him through to what He knew would be His triumph - seated on a throne at the right hand of God in Heaven. You too can go away by yourself and talk with God, asking Him to help you in your journey through this world; until you reach your triumphant final chapter - eternal life with Him in Heaven and your reward of a crown of life. Amen! 🙌

What Jesus went through, He didn't go through it alone. God was with Him, The Holy Spirit was within Him. Whatever you go through, you don't go through it alone. God is with you. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter living in you and praying when you don't know what to pray. Jesus is up there seated at God's right hand, interceding for you.

Friend, even when you feel like you're going through it all alone, you're never alone. God will use the tests, troubles and trials to develop your character. It might not always be pleasant or comfortable, but not one moment of what you suffer will be wasted - God will use it all. And you DO NOT go though anything alone. God is watching over you, Jesus is with you always, walking alongside you and the Holy Spirit is within you. Remember that you are never alone, when you feel abandoned or lonely. Feelings will change and mislead you, but the promises in the Word of God never change.

Friend, rest in the Word of God. What does it mean to rest in God's Word? What is God's rest? It is not rest from physical work (although that is a good thing at the end of a long day!) God's rest is the profound peace that God gives to all those who love and obey Him regardless of circumstances. It is the peace that Jesus offers; the peace the world doesn't understand.

Friend, God isn't putting you through trials because He doesn't love you, because God is love and He loves you as His precious Child. God loves Jesus, His only begotten Son, with a depth of love we, as humans, can only vaguely comprehend. And look what Jesus went through! But God had a purpose for Jesus' pain. God has purpose for your pain and a reward for your faithfulness.

God will bring blessings through your trials and sunshine at the end of your storms. Lean on God, rest in Him and wait for the storms to pass, because they will. Trust God and don't give up! Amen! 🙏🕊️🙌
