The Pros and Cons of Getting Invested in Real People Instead of Fictional Characters
Pros (the benefits)
still around when Plot isn’t happening. all the messy little mundanities of life are actually most of it, and getting glimpses of that makes everything feel very rich and textured
are often still very much alive and Up to Something. the epilogue updates regularly.
can interact with other media figures like some sort of bizarre crossover episode. wdym you know each other, you’re not even from the same show
can be interviewed and make other appearances, and if they refuse to, people who know them probably will
they may even have social media
you can’t get Doomed by The Narrative in real life so if they’re plagued by themes and motifs anyway that's pretty funny
Cons (the Horrors)
if something bad happens to them the consequences are real and irreversible.
the argument “morality doesn’t matter because it’s just a story” does not apply. ethics are now way more complicated.
the argument “all interpretations are valid” does not apply. you can speculate, but things actually happened a certain way and you can’t Death of the Author your way out of it
existential threat of them coming across fandom content
getting treated like a fictional character instead of a real human being is why famous people go crazy, so blorbofying them probably isn’t good, but at the same time the urge to actively participate in this is completely irresistible
they may even have social media
you can’t get Doomed by The Narrative in real life so if they’re plagued by themes and motifs anyway that's pretty fucked up

suggestion do you have... any wants? like obviously you do but like? suggestion my guy my ourple boy. both the easiest and hardest to write. you need a skill to say something to move conversation along but it doesn't fit any skill in particular? about 80% of the time you can have suggestion say it and it will make sense. but like actually characterizing him... how do i define you dude... what makes your character tick... urgh. i dont get you yet. im trying to understand but you are difficult.
#chemi chats#there are some skills that i just dont understand yet and that just means i have to work on their character study chapter#im reading his bio and i think suggestion is a good manipulator and it's instinctive and he tries not to feel bad about it?#he's clever!! charming!! friends with savvy and drama. planting seeds in the mind and coaxing them to grow towards him like he's the sun.#a crude oil reservoir lying beneath a carefully laid flower bed. taps into the roots. the plants don't know any better than to drink.#he's great at sensing what makes people tick and uses that to his advantage. he needs goals to look forward to so he knows how to best#pull the strings to get them there. otherwise he's a bit aimless. he likes being useful. and since influencing others is helpful#he just keeps doing it? because it's what he's good at. and he tries to convince himself its fun and cool and just cuz hes charming and#it's his role as a skill and manipulation isnt thaaaat bad because it's helpful to them after all... but he does feel bad sometimes.#oh im listening to his voice lines and i just got to ''brother you should have put me in front of a firing squad'' and im sad about him now#but what do you want for short term little guy?? probably for people to like him. he likes chatting with people. i bet he'd like genuine#conversations with no strings attached but there's always some part of him filing information and tidbits away that he can't turn off#subconsciously figuring out things he can hold over them or how he can nudge them into thinking someth-/wait.../ no. no he's just talking.#he's /supposed/ to just be talking stop analyzing them stop falling back into that just have a normal conversation!! but he can't help it..#hm. this is all really helpful for his chapter. he and empathy are very alike but also different. very interesting...#task: swept up#okay good talk everyone i think i understand him a little better now lmao?? still gotta figure him out some more hes not fully there but ye#also i think he goes by whatever pronoun you think he'd use. just ''oh what do /you/ think i am hm?? what /would/ i use; do you think?? :)'#funny fella. i love you.

hello i am sooooooo sad and lethargic and sick and it would make me soooooo happy if you gave my exhaustively researched Titanic!AU w destiel and samwena, Three Princes, a read ; A ;
i didn't put warnings on it (for Reasons) but also jsyk do not STOP reading before the epilogue :)))))
but look! i made art for it and there's songs for each chapter and switching POVs and there's extensive smut and there's booze smuggling and dancing and tragic backstories and pining and all sorts of stuff!!!
is Cas a Russian priest? almost! does Dean have Stage 4 Mommy Issues? you bet! does Sam sweat loudly around a milf that could kill him w a glance? more than once! is Rowena complex and morally grey while still maintaining a likable charm? i - i mean, god i hope i worked really hard on this one, guys!!
if u give it a chance, leave a comment on it or let me know what u thought of it here or on the cursed bird app - my focus is shot rn bc of meds and illness so i can't really get any further w my current WIPs atm and i need external validation or i shall simply whither away to dust on the wind T A T
imma tag folks (if u want me to remove u from the list lemme know slkdhfj this feels a little brazen of me to tag people ?? but everyone im tagging seems so nice and supportive and im a poor little meow meow rn so)

for the drabble spotify wrapped game, if you want: i rolled my rainbow d10 twice and we have a 75 🌈
❤️ 🌈
75: America's Sweetheart by Elle King
uh. I don't know where this came from. i apologise, my partner-in-fluff 🫡
Also I am obviously not abiding by the technical 100-word definition of drabble here, but instead the much looser 'short piece of writing'.
spotify wrapped drabbles!
Steve doesn't know when he stopped caring about killing people. It didn't bother him until he started caring again.
It's not anyone unusual, is the thing that gets him. It's a nameless, almost-faceless drug smuggler that he didn't even mean to kill, but he shot with intent to disable and a little too much carelessness in a rush to stop the ship they came in on, and when he finally loops back around there's a pool of blood and a corpse with a busted femoral artery.
He's kneeling down, checking a pulse even though it's clearly absent, removing weapons even though he'll clearly have no use for them, when his fingers brush against a thin edge in the inside pocket of the off-the-rack grey suit jacket the guy's wearing.
When he pulls it out, it's a photo. He has to look down to check that it's the same guy in it, partially because death rictus changes a face, especially when your comparison is smiling and happy, and partially because he just hasn't looked at his face properly. It's the same guy, his arm around a similarly smiling woman shoulder-height to him and so close in features she has to be his sister, with a chubby-cheeked frizzy-haired kid straddling his shoulders and holding onto the woman's hand.
One of the first things the military teaches you, explicitly or not, is to erase personhood. Your own, and your enemy's. Numbers, statistics, body parts and targets and usefulness.
He puts the photo back into the dead man's jacket and moves away. A tech comes at some point, body-bags him, and Duke is there and the rest of his team have it well in hand, so he goes back to where their cars are parked, boosts himself onto the hood of the truck, and waits.
Kono walks past at some point, but they're still in the midst of cleanup and HPD handover, so even though she does slow and ask, "You okay, boss?", when he replies in the affirmative she nods and keeps moving.
He remembers himself before. He remembers when it would never would have occurred to him not to think that every person with a bullet in them is a person with a family. A person with a life, at least before they were a person with a death.
He doesn't bother trying to count. The impulse washes over him, but it would take hours with military records and Five-0 reports to calculate anything even close to accuracy.
Himself before was decades ago, but also not that long ago. It was target practice at the Academy and work behind computers in Military Intelligence and crawling through mud with a similarly young Freddie by his side.
Himself after, apparently, is sitting on his own truck at the edge of his own city watching his family and his family's family and his friends and his friends' friends move efficiently through shipping containers and body bags.
Eventually, Danny finds him. He takes one look at Steve's face; he doesn't say anything, just leans against the hood next to Steve and waits.
Eventually, Steve finds the words. "I don't think the military would like me anymore, Danny."
It's not all that new a state of affairs; he got driven by revenge and tattoos in non-regulation places and too many personal attachments and he remembered how to have fun in quiet spaces and how to love in loud ones. He started caring again.
"Good," Danny says, harsh and definite, and Steve realises with a start that the things that would debase him in the eyes of his country are probably exactly the same reasons Danny - not just Danny, his whole family - would cite for loving him. Except the tattoos, maybe.
He can't bring himself to be upset about it in the face of that.

it’s very funny how this fandom suddenly cares so much about sensitivity, meanwhile no one was up in arms about folks calling valeria shit like “cartel mommy” and simping for her. and, if you point this out, you get told that it’s “less important” or incomparable. way to tell victims of cartel violence that they don’t matter. y’all can’t preach about sensitivity and mindfulness while doing the exact opposite of that.
sensitivity is something that needed to be brought up a long time ago. people need to be mindful about the content they’re engaging with and producing. COD and its characters are based on very real issues and very real situations, mindfulness is needed for every single character.
seeing this only be brought up in the context of makarov and graves is honestly so, so frustrating. they’re not the only problematic characters that you need to consider when making content. western militaries like the US and UK are incredibly controversial and have devastated vulnerable people and their countries. price, ghost, soap, gaz— any member of the military, especially the special forces, is problematic. they’re not good people and should not be treated like saints, nor should they be idolized for what they do.
that all being said, the concepts of “be mindful and sensitive when making content” and “let people enjoy problematic media” can absolutely, 100%, co-exist. art is not meant to be a paradigm of moral goodness, it has always been a medium for people to explore things that are considered "taboo" in a safe space. there's a reason why "dead dove: do not eat" exists as a genre – with proper warning and precautions put in place, people can explore darker topics. for some, it's morbid interest. for others, it's a way of coping with trauma and experiences they've had in real life.
i want to repeat this just to make it very clear: be mindful and sensitive with the content you're producing. do not romanticize topics that should not be painted in a good light. don't minimize the impact of characters' actions or act like people are in the wrong for being uncomfortable with them. in this fandom especially, people treat atrocities like jokes because we're becoming desensitized to them. it's up to every individual to ensure that they don't forget how impactful a lot of this stuff is in real life. war is not a joke. terrorism is not a joke. people dying is not a joke. do not romanticize any of these things in your content, even if you're exploring the different sides of the people behind these things.
humanize the characters all you want. horrible people are still people, after all. humans are not one-dimensional beings. humanize them, but do not romanticize them.
be kind to victims, be sensitive, and be mindful about what you engage with. no one is perfect, no thing is perfect, but we can always do better. we need to approach every topic through this lens instead of picking and choosing who to support. everyone is deserving of it, everyone is entitled to basic respect. we don't need to compete and argue over who has it worse, we just need to be better across the board. support real victims. don't let media warp your perceptions of reality. be conscious of the content you make and consume.
#call of duty#cod#cod mw2#mw2#modern warfare#putting it in very clear words because i'm scared people may misinterpret what i'm saying:#for the love of god— LISTEN when people tell you that you're doing something wrong.#especially if these are victims or people knowledgeable of the topics you're portraying.#do your research. learn about the things you're writing or reading about.#do not portray bad people or harmful things in a positive light.#it's completely possible to “simp” for villains without disregarding or defending their actions. these characters are fictional.#it's better to get your rocks off to a set of pixels modeled after a normal person than a REAL person that does harm.#but be cognizant of what you're looking at when you do.#if you can support real victims— please do.#donate to ukraine. educate yourself on the war. learn about the harsh reality of cartels. study the impact of colonization and racism.#not only is it good to be informed of things in the real world— but it allows you to better understand these topics in the media.#i'm FAR from perfect. i'm not immune to doing wrong. i'm no exception to this criticism.#also wanted to throw this into the post but i may make another to address this specifically:#it is VERY telling that this fandom only started talking about sensitivity once (predominantly) white folks started being impacted by it.#no one cared about valeria being called “cartel mommy” or the cartel being romanticized.#graves gets criticized for being racist. but even he's often given a “pass” by the fandom.

Something seriously lacking in my art is the ability to tell a story in a single illustration.
I've gotten so used to drawing my characters standing around doing random things that I've never practiced telling a full tale/putting implications into my pieces that require more thinking/looking.
It also comes from a lower amount of details in my works by default [since I like to get pieces done fast], but I'm tired of using that as an excuse.

Been thinking about the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen again, and it's 4am where I am, so you all know what time it is:
Johnny's Random LXG Thought of the Indeterminate Timespan
It's notable that, of the main characters of the first few volumes of League, the character I hear the least complaints about is Nemo (discounting the issues with his daughter here - yes, Janni isn't a Hindi name as far as I can tell, yes, Alan Moore still has not encountered a woman character he can't insert a sexual assault storyline into, these are known.)
It's also notable that, at least going by Moore's own words in interviews and the like around League, Nemo is the character that Moore and O'Neill were most willing to combine their own creativity with the source material in regards to (which also gave us the single raddest thing in League, namely the Nautilus itself and also that time it fought a load of Tripods.)
It may be notable that in the superhero teamup that the first League volume was satirising, Nemo is clearly the Batman, but I do not have the coherence to conjugate that thought at this hour.

Here is my finished Gene Belcher Presentation in all of its glory! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it :D
Special thank you/shoutout to @babsvibes and @now-nowstalgia for inspiring me to make this Presentation! Go check out their Presentations on Logan Bush and Regular-Sized Rudy, respectively. I basically used @now-nowstalgia's Presentation Structure (titles and the like) to construct this but tried to make it my own by tweaking some things here and there.
I'll also consider this a gift to @br1ghtestlight for being as big of a Gene Belcher fan as me. Also, her compilations on YouTube provided some of the clips you can see in the Presentation.

I feel definitely sorry for whoever has to make an entrance during a party where these two would be present.
It's more likely they will judge their outfit, their attitude, but they will also definitely notice if someone is not comfortable or lacking confidence.
They become two nasty snakes openly pouring venom into the wound by chit chatting, whispering and chuckling, when they give them some side looks.

I am making a Monster High OC that I’m going to make friends with Jackson, because if that motherfucker can’t get his own found family, I’m gonna make it for him anyway, so her name is Delilah Eldridge
Oc lore
Delilah Eldridge, is about 2000 years old and is the new immortal offspring of the Eldridge that represents fear
She’s usually adorned in clown, make up and finding creative ways to do so reason why she adorns clan mean, come, because one of their parent represents fear, and she took inspiration from the fear of clowns
She doesn’t have that much of a good relationship with Eldridge that created her own due to the Eldridge, having more favour to her older siblings.
She is a fourth dimensional being, but then most of the time takes form as a human vessel that is flesh. Her true form is naturally compressed sensible to humans.
But due to her, not having a good relationship with her family, she had tended to travel through the different directions, and had stumble upon earth, and then enjoyed the time there to the point, where she created a new vessel to fit in within earth
She does not have many friends
This is what I have so far for her lore in, and I made up the Eldridge fear, because I didn’t Google, if these are actually in Eldridge that it was the purpose of Acacian of fear, but I made one up why because I can
So she’s basically an electric subspecies. She doesn’t know if her creator just created her, or if she was created by two bins back to plot point.
And she embodies a small specific part of her creators domain, which is fear which she takes it. When she’s in human form, the personification of clowns, she loves the clown makeup. She loves like alternative clown.
Kinda like the picture below
So if anyone wants me to talk more about this original character and I am planning on making them. I don’t want her to be like a self interest for romance because I don’t like Jackson romantically I like his character so please this is not a self insert I’m just trying to give this person found family
I don’t even really ship Jackson with anyone, because the characters that I see aren’t really good enough for my character or in calendar with our relationship is is good, but something fucked it up(I’m talking about Frankie/Jackson/holt Situationship made me wanna vomit as a kid I hate love triangles I blame it on Disney) anyways thank you for listening to my TEDTalk

I didn't expect this much of my blog to be dedicated to debating the religious implications of Soul Eater, but here we are.
Enough DTK Jesus. People don't know Kid exists; he's the son of God; that doesn't inherently make him Jesus.
You know who would be a MORE compelling parallel to Jesus? Asura. The Kishin Asura. He was the son of god (created by Lord Death out of a fragment of Lord Death's own being), and he was killed by a group of mortal meisters who didn't know any better. It is the perfect comparison to Jesus for a Kishin-worshipping cult. The Kishin was REVIVED ffs.
Lord Death just KEEPS making Jesuses. But they never manage to be a living examples for humans to live by. Is that because Lord Death is flawed? Sure. Does this imply something cynical about Ohkubo's view of Christianity--that the christian God is also flawed, as no being can be perfect? Absolutely the fuck not. Ohkubo wasn't thinking about it that hard.

I have decided to undertake making a fanfiction about Baldurs Gate 3 to cope with not being able to play the game myself because the hardware is too strenuous for my almost 11 year old desktop. However, I have run into a mild setback on my progress.
There are only so many YouTube clips I can use to reference and not every conversation between the origin characters is on the wiki for easy viewing.
So, I'm making this post in hopes people can dump miscellaneous information onto me. Stuff like character banter. Mostly stuff about the companions since character/relationship development will be a central point in this fic. I already know plenty about Astarion thanks to all the people uploading stuff online (and honestly would love more), but I would love more info on the other characters. I've been doing my own research, but it would be great to have an inside source or two from people who have actually played the game.
If you have any interest in helping me with this, feel free to direct message me!
