‘Chenford through pregnancy’ head canon
Just some little things I have imagined of Tim and Lucy during Lucy’s pregnancy.
Tim will be so protective of Lucy. His eyes scanning every room they walk into to make sure there’s no danger.
That man will rub Lucys feet every night without her even having to ask. They’ll be sat on the couch together and he’ll just lift her legs up and lay them on his lap.
They will both be so smiley at ultrasound appointments, Tim’s hands in Lucy’s, stroking her hair and every so often kissing the back of her hand. He’ll be so in disbelief that this is happening and he’s living this life with his love.
Lucy will make a joke about how the baby would be their ‘little boot’ and even suggest buying a personalised onesie with ‘baby boot’ written on it 🥺
Tim will constantly ask Lucy ‘have you eaten ?’ ‘Do you need any thing, I can get you whatever you want’ and Lucy will rub his arm and say ‘Tim, I’m fine, you don’t need to worry’ then gives him a quick kiss which completely lowers his anxiety on the matter.
I feel like Lucy would be the opposite of Nyla when pregnant, and instead of being really happy, she’ll often get random bursts of anger; basically the opposite of her usual sunshine persona. Aaron will be so on edge the whole time on patrol 🤣Tim will just let her rant to help her get her frustrations out like the good husband he is. He also speaks to Aaron on the side to tell him to just let Lucy have her moments of anger and to just support her. He also sneakily asks Aron to text him updates throughout the day to make sure she’s okay.
I don’t think they’ll be the type to throw a gender reveal party. They’ve seen too many of them go wrong on the job 🤣I also have a feeling they’ll want to be surprised at the birth of the biological sex of the baby. They ultimately don’t care what they’ll have, they’ll love that baby no matter what ❤️
However, Nyla and Angela and Tamara will most definitely throw Lucy a baby shower! They’ll play games and decorate the whole place. It will be hosted at either Angela’s or Nyla’s and they literally force every single person to bring gifts for her and the baby because she’s always gotten the best gifts for them and Jack and Leah. Lucy will be so touched, she’d get a little teary and face time Tim to tell him all about it and show him everything. Tim would be so happy his wife is being spoiled as she deserves ❤️
Tim has definitely told the rest of the officers to call him on his phone or on the radio if they hear anything about Lucy, or if she needs is help but is being too stubborn to ask for it. (You know that man will do anything for her.)
Lucy will constantly talk to the bump every day. Singing to the baby and telling them the story of her and Tim. Tim would overhear one day, but instead of alerting her of his presence, he just stands at the doorway with a smile on his face and the most adoring eyes you will ever see. He gets his phone out at one point and videos it so that he can watch it in his office during any breaks he has.
Lots of cuddles and rubbing of the bump. Tim’s softer side will really shine when Lucy is pregnant. His camera roll is basically just pictures of Lucy. It’s the only thing he thinks is worth photographing ❤️until the baby comes and then heel have another addition to his cavers roll.
Lucy’s Lock Screen will definitely be the ultrasound scan.
Lucy and Tim will ask Tamara if she can paint the baby’s nursery for them, saying that they’d love a piece of her in their child’s room ❤️Tamara will be so happy to do it and will paint the most beautiful mural for the baby. Lucy would for sure cry and her and Tamara would have a heart to heart, Lucy telling Tamara that her love for her won’t diminish in the slightest just because she’s having a baby. Tim would also reassure her by saying she can come by whenever she wants, no need to ask. And hell offer that they all have a family dinner together every week 🥺❤️
During birth, Lucy will obviously be in pain, but Tim is the most comforting and supportive birth partner (he’d give James a run for his money and we know how amazing James was) he’ll constantly give Lucy back rubs and wipe the sweat off her face. He will whisper her words of affirmation all the time, telling her how amazing she’s doing and how much he loves her. He’ll definitely question the nurses and doctors a lot to make sure Lucy is receiving the best care (I mean, we remember the needle episode right ?) times that by 100.
Then their beautiful, sweet chenford baby will be born and they’ll be in their own little love bubble ❤️

keep it on the low (until i know) by sisterofficerchen (kakejiszkas) | chenford | 3.8k
Lucy, ever the millennial, soft launches her boyfriend on Instagram. Her boyfriend’s sister figures it out.
It’s late on a Thursday night, sometime past midnight, when Genny finally falls into bed. She gets comfy under her duvet and burrows further into her pillows, ready to unlock her phone and open Instagram for her nightly ritual of scrolling through her friends’ stories.
The first one is a new story from lifeoflucy, and she taps it to see what Lucy’s up to tonight.
It’s a boomerang, the shot panning from a beer on the bar to Lucy’s leg thrown over someone’s lap. Genny can see what looks like a man’s arm resting atop the bar table, but the shot cuts off before she can make out any details beyond that and the watch he’s wearing on his wrist.

Day 1 Fill
Lucy had been vetted by Caradine and encouraged by Lopez and Harper to serve as patrol exclusively for the Detectives. It’s a solid step on her way to being tapped for Detective and Tim is stupidly proud of her. He’s also potentially thoughtful about what it means if she’s not under his direct command. And what it could mean for them.
So of course he gets shot.

Chenford + drunk confession
Hey, here’s a little fic for your prompt. Thank you for requesting it, I really needed the inspiration 😂💕hope you like it 🥰
A Chenford pre-relationship fic- How do you know ?
Lucy is having a rough day, so with the help of Tim, Nyla and Angela take her out for the night. But what happens when Lucy drunkenly confesses something to not only Angela, but to Tim as well ?
Inc: Fluff, hurt/comfort, protective Tim, Angela, Nyla and Lucy being adorable
Warnings: alcohol consumption and talk of a difficult parental relationship
Tim looked over at Lucy in the shop, eyebrows scrunched in concern at her lack of conversation. Usually, she’ll have told him 3 different stories by now, wether they be from childhood, police academy or just last night; she always had something to tell him. And as much as Tim would complain and exclaim that there was to be ‘no personal talk’ in the shop, he secretly loved it and felt excited every time Lucy opened her mouth.
“You okay ?” He stares at her every few seconds, his focus on the road suddenly seeming unimportant and dull. Lucy’s head swings towards Tim’s, his words snapping her out of the trance she’s been in for the past half an hour. “Hmm? Oh, yeah, I’m fine” she answers in a tone of voice that is fooling nobody; especially not Tim Bradford.
Tim breathes out, hands clenching around the steering wheel, knuckles turning white as his agitation and anxiety rises. Lucy always tells him what’s wrong, she even gave him a 20 minute speech once about how ‘it’s important to acknowledge your own feelings so you don’t get lost in them’. She’d told him this when they got called out to a Domestic- the couple had been arguing every night for a week and had several calls made about them to the police; turns out that they were just missing each other because they’d both been working late. Lucy had a lot to say on the matter.
Thinking about a way to approach the subject without pushing her too hard, Tim keeps glancing at Lucy, eyes darting back and forth between her and the road. Her silence doesn’t diminish, so Tim makes a decision that even has him questioning his professionalism. He pulls the shop over to the curb, feeling confident that today is a quieter day, and there’s been no calls to them as of yet.
Lucy casts her gaze towards Tim hesitantly; did he just pull over ? It’s not their lunch break yet and they haven’t had a call, what’s gotten into him ? “Tim, wha-“
“Tell me what’s going on” he looks at her with an impatient expression, jaw slightly hardened and his whole body turned towards her. He may be trying to seem annoyed, but Lucy doesn’t miss the worry that floats in his eyes; she’s seen it enough times to know when it’s there. “It’s nothing important, honestly I’m fine.” Tim sighs, the look of disbelief that crosses his face is almost humorous, and Lucy wound have laughed if she didn’t feel so crappy.
“You’re fine ? So that’s why you’ve not said a word all day and why you’ve been moping about looking outside your window ? That’s fine is it ?” She looks at him with exasperation, though she’s privately flattered that he cares this much. “It’s my Mom” he nods in understanding; this explains her mood. Tim knows Lucy Chen like the back of his hand, and he knows how complicated her relationship with her Mother is, so whatever problem she is currently harbouring, it can’t be a good one.
“It’s just, we haven’t really spoken properly for a while, since she said all that stuff about my job. But it was her birthday yesterday so I called her up last night, and she just- she just completely tore me down in any way she could ! It was either ‘you’re stupid for staying at this job’ or ‘you’re not being a very good daughter’ or ‘have I had any dates recently, because a man ‘won’t wait forever’” she rolls her eyes in frustration, her hands flying up to emphasise every word she utters. Tim can’t help but focus on the last one ‘a man won’t wait forever’, he may not know everything when it comes to love, but he knows that a man in love would wait, and he would wait until the end of time for a woman like Lucy; he knows he would, but he’s not about to tell her that.
“I’m just so sick of feeling small around her. I’m sick of never feeling good enough in anything I do!” Her anger is clear from any angle, wether she could be heard or not, her body language screamed rage, hurt, exhaustion. Tim can feel his heart tighten at the sound of torment in her voice. Lucy is the epitome of sunshine, and so seeing her any different feels wrong. He thinks for a moment, unsure if he can say what he wants to, he doesn’t want to overstep and upset her even more, but they’ve been through so much together, and each of them trusts the other with their life, so he convinces himself to open up.
“Listen Chen, I don’t know if this is my place to say, but I’m going to anyway” he takes a breath and looks deeply into her eyes with sincerity. “Nobody, and especially not your Mom, should be speaking to you like that. You’re feeling angry and upset because the way she treats you is wrong and just because she gave you life, doesn’t mean she gets to decide what you do with it. And for the record, any man stupid enough not to wait for you, doesn’t deserve you in the first place.” Tim’s eyes widen slightly in surprise at himself; sure, they’ve had heart to hearts before, many times in fact, but has he ever said anything that personal regarding her love life ?
Before Lucy can give her response, Tim cuts in, anxious to sway her mind from the last thing he said. “I’m just saying, it’s okay if you need to cut her out completely, at least for a while. You may be her daughter, but she’s your mother, and mothers aren’t supposed to cause their daughters pain.”
Lucy is silent, her mind digesting every word that she’s just heard. She needed this. Other than Jackson, everyone else had told her that her mother only had her ‘best Interest at heart’ but it’s easy to say that when you haven’t lived with it your whole life. And here Tim is, saying easing her worry and guilt by completely validating her feelings, and telling her that it’s her Mom that’s in the wrong. She didn’t realise how much she needed to hear it from somebody else, and now that Jackson is gone, she thought she’d never hear it again. Lucy knew that Tim understood that she felt a certain way towards her Mother, but she hadn’t realised he knew just how much he understood. In a way, she supposes she should have considering what she knows about Tim’s dad, but when her Mom signed her up to have her eggs frozen, Tim’s response had been “or, she’s just looking out for you knowing how busy you are” so it’s safe to say his response to this did surprise her slightly.
Lucys continued silence starts to ring alarm bells in Tim’s head “Lucy, I’m sorry, I-“
“No, no, don’t be. You don’t know how much that meant to me, so Thankyou.” She gives him a reassuring smile and a grateful stare that she hopes he doesn’t miss. “And you’re right, I think I’m going to tell her we can’t speak for a while, even on holidays.” Tim nods in agreement, happy that she’s realising she deserves to be treated better. The look between them doesn’t falter for a second, a depth to their stare that says more than words ever could. Both of them gulp in anticipation, not quite knowing what feeling is lingering in the air.
“Assault Suspect heading on foot towards Brook street, white male, black suit, suspect is armed” Lucy and Tim are brought out of their haze by the sound of the radio. Tim knows immediately that they’re close to Brook street, he saw it just before he parked the shop. And he now knows that whatever moment he and Lucy were just having, is very much over. “7 Adam 19, pursuing suspect on Brook street”
Later on at the station
Angela walks up to Tim, a determined stride in her step, and a mischievous glance on her face. Oh no, the last time Angela had this look on her face, she’d told him to fire her maid of honour, what could she possibly have in mind now ? “What’s happening?” Tim asks warily, failing to hide the humour in his words. Angela smirks at him and wiggles her eyebrows “Timothy, I have a task for you” Tim’s eyes narrow, the teasing tone and full name that she uses, causing him uneasiness; and Angela knows it. “Spit it out”
“I need you to be the chauffeur for a girls night tonight.”
“What ?! No! The game is on tonight, why can’t Wesley ?” He looks away in exasperation, hands thrown up either side of him. Angela sighs impatiently, she hasn’t got time to lay all the groundwork out for him, and tell him all about Wesley’s new case that’s been keeping him late at work; she’s supposed to be in a meeting right now, so she uses the only card that she knows will undoubtedly work “it’s for Lucy”. Tim’s head snaps her way with force, an intrigued expression now replacing his previous exasperated one.
“What is it ?” Angela smiles in victory “wellll, I noticed Lucys been a bit down today, so Nyla and I decided that we’re taking her out tonight. And you are going to happily take us and pick us up so we can all have a nice drink.” Her eyebrows begin to raise again, arms crossing in defiance, there’s no way Tim is getting away with a ‘no’ on this one. He sighs in defeat, puffs of air releasing through his lips “Fine, what time ?”
At the bar
Angela, Nyla and Lucy sit close around the table at the bar. They arrived almost two hours ago and Lucy has had the absolute pleasure of ranting all about her problems, with Angela and Nyla backing her up and listening intently to everything she said. They were right- she needed this. Nyla raises her glass of water, a smile on her face and a relaxed, peppy air about her. “Here’s to living our lives by our own choices, and not giving a fuck about what anyone thinks of it.” “Damn right” Lucy and Angela comment in unison. A look of recognition crosses Nyla’s features and she re raises her glass, both Angela and Lucy looking on confused. “And here’s to Tim Bradford for forgetting that I’m pregnant, so could have easily been the designated driver tonight.” Laughter erupts from the table in a ferocious parade, onlookers smiling at the joy of the clearly close friends.
“Okay, I’m gonna have to run to the bathroom because this baby is jumping on my bladder like nobody’s business” Nyla gets up from the table , a quick skip In her step, and Angela takes the private moment to ask Lucy something that has been on her mind. “So, how’s things with you and Chris?” Lucy looks up, eyes particularly bugged out for the casual nature of the question, which doesn’t go unseen by Angela. “Oh? Erm, yeah, things are fine-great, yeah, we’re good” Angela’s left eyebrow arches at the fumbling of Lucy’s words. She asked this question for a reason; she knows Lucy isn’t happy with Chris, she’s aware she’s settling because she thinks she can’t have what she really wants- Tim. But she knows Tim Bradford, and Tim Bradford wants Lucy Chen. She’s so desperate for those two idiots to figure it out, so she prods her more.
“You don’t seem too confident in that answer” By now, Lucy’s had a few drinks, and her usual barrier she puts up of hiding feelings for Tim, was getting weaker by the second. “Mmmm, I mean, Chris is a nice boyfriend, but I’m just not sure he’s great for me” Lucy winces and drops her head into her hands, instantly regretting revealing such things when she hasn’t even said them out loud to herself yet. Angela rests a comforting hand upon Lucy’s forearm, and pulls her hands away from her eyes, getting her to look at her own. “Look, I know it’s not exactly my business, but nobody in the history of time has ever referred to their boyfriend as ‘nice’ when things were going great. It’s easy to settle when you think you don’t have a chance at what you really want, but If I were you, I wouldn’t give up so quick.”
Lucy’s brows scrunch in bewilderment. Angela hit the nail on the head with everything she said; maybe a little too much- what does she know ? Have a chance at what she really wants? What would make her say that with the little information she gave her about Chris?. Her mind begins to turn foggy, and before either of them can think through the question anymore, the alcohol hits them and the only thing they want to do is dance.
“Nyla !! Come over here ! We’re dancingggg” Nyla lifts her head on the way back from the bathroom, chuckling at the state of her two friends. “I can see that” Lucy’s smile is bright and she appears to be much more carefree than she was this morning. Nyla can’t help but give in to temptation and join them both on the floor, each of them being spun around by the other, drunken and sober giggles flying through the air. This is definitely what was needed, Angela and Nyla included. Angela has been feeling the stress of being detective pretty hard lately, and Nyla has been dwelling constantly on the baby and if either of them will be safe; a night with their girls is just what the doctor ordered.
3 hours later, Nyla calls Tim and asks him to come and pick Lucy up. Already getting in his car, he puts his phone on speaker and tells her he’ll be there soon. “I thought you and Angela needed a ride too.”
“Yeah, we did, but Wesley’s just got out of work and said he’d pick Angela up, and I’m going too because my place is closest to theirs” she peers to her side at Angela, face questioning wether she had sufficiently excelled in the task. Angela bobs her head rapidly, eyes scanning the room to see if Lucy had returned from the bar yet, cautious of getting caught. The thing is, Wesley wasn’t working late tonight, and she had known that from the beginning, but Angela had plans of her own, and that included getting Tim and Lucy to open up about their feelings; she just decided to give them a little nudge.
“Okay, if you’re sure. I’ll be about 5 minutes” “okay cool, bye.” Nyla turned to Angela, a humorous smirk etched upon her lips “you’re a menace” Angela laughs and pushes Nyla’s arm with a playful shove “a super smart menace”.
“Who’s a super smart menace?” Lucy questions, clearly her trip to the bar had been a short lived one. But In Angela and Nyla’s luck, she was much too inebriated to notice the deer in headlights expression that was notched into their faces. “Oh, nothing, just someone in a case we worked on last week” Angela sends a promising smile to Nyla, eyes seeking the appraisal for her lie that her drunk self wanted. Nyla nods towards her with an over exaggerated smile and thumbs up, her demeanour taking that of a Mother who’s child had just gone potty for the first time.
Nyla’s phone buzzes, gaze averting from Angela and Lucy, who are currently wobbling, leaning on each other for support- yeah, it was time to head home. Thankfully, Tim and Wesley had arrived at pretty much the same time, so the women parted ways safely and made their way home.
Tim grabbed into Lucy’s waist and reached his hand out for hers when she stumbled on her own feet. “How much did you have to drink?” Lucy giggled troublesomely, her hiccups giving away that the number of drinks she had was worryingly high. Tim sends her an amused smile, mind feeling slightly more at ease to know that he’s with her whilst she’s like this. “Okay, let’s get you in the truck” he utters it so adoringly that drunk Lucy can’t help but tear up. “Thank you for picking me up Tim, I know the game was on *hiccup* tonight”.
As Tim puts Lucy’s seatbelt over her and clips it into the holder, his mind runs wild with how she knows that the game was on tonight. He didn’t tell her, and she doesn’t follow football, so how could she have possibly known that ? Curiosity usually doesn’t get the best of him, he’s usually one to not care why people say what they say, but this- he must know. “How did you know the game was on tonight?” His voice has heightened in curiosity, hands still rested safely on the seatbelt, but as he looks to Lucy for an answer, he is met with her angelic-like state of sleep. In theory, you’d think that tussled hair, open mouth and slight snoring wouldn’t be that cute, but to Tim, she looked perfect.
Shaking his head of the thoughts a man in a relationship shouldn’t be having, he gently closes Lucy’s side of the truck and hops into the drivers seat, making his way to Lucy’s apartment, his eyes glancing over to her every once in a while to check she’s okay.
As Tim parks outside of Lucy’s building, he softly whispers her name and rubs her arm up and down to wake her. No response. “Lucy” this time, he gets a reaction; she begins to mumble and curls herself up to the window of the truck. It’s clear to Tim that she’s not going to wake up, which leaves only one option- he’s going to have to carry her.
Opening Lucy’s door, he carefully unfastens her seatbelt so he doesn’t wake her in the process, and places an arm underneath her thighs, other arm wrapping around her waist. Tim lifts her with no struggle out of the car, and repositions her over his shoulder so that he has a hand free to open the door to the building and her apartment. The elevator was luckily empty due to the time, and Tim was able to comfortably stand in the middle with Lucy sprawled over his shoulder.
As he unlocks the keys to her door, he begins to notice her stirring in her sleep, alerting him that she’s probably going to wake up sooner rather than later. He closes the door and paces his way slowly over to her colourful sofa, laying her down lightly upon the pillows. He crouches down and watches as her eyes stir, leisurely blinking to adjust to the brightness in the room. “Hmmm” Lucy’s gaze sets upon Tim, her drunken state smiling at him, rather than questioning how she got upstairs.
“Hey sleeping beauty” he teases with a smirk, laughing at the irritated glare she’s directing towards her table lamp. “Guessing you had a good night” Lucy breathes out slowly, moving her body so that she’s sat up facing him. “Can I have please water some ?” Tim raises his eyebrows in amusement; he’s never seen drunk Lucy before, he’s seen her slightly tipsy but this is another level, and he’s not going to deny that it’s the best thing he’s seen all week. “I’ll go and get you some water now”. Tim stands from his position and strides towards Lucy’s cupboards, reaching for a glass and filling it up with some cold water.
“Tim?” He hums in response, eyes still watching the water filling the glass. Lucy is looking over at him, her chin placed comfortably on the back of the sofa, eyes inquisitive. “How do you know if you’re settling for someone ?” Tim freezes to his spot, turning off the tap quickly as the glass overfills due to his surprise. “Erm, I don’t know” he thinks for a second of how to answer her question, but once he realised she probably won’t remember tomorrow, he begins to answer her. “I suppose you’re never really at your full happiness with the person, because there’s a part of you that doesn’t actually want them. I guess you just feel a little empty at times when you’re around them” as Tim unload his thoughts, he realises that he may have just said something that he needed to hear himself, but it’s 1:30 in the morning and he’s not about to delve down that hole.
“Why do you ask?” He walks towards her and hands her the glass of water, their fingers grazing across each other and sending sparks of electric through their bodies.
Lucy looks at Tim with a thoughtful leer, head spinning trying to come up with the words her brain wants her to say. “Mhnnnm, I’m not sure I like him- Chris, I’m not sure if I have proper feelings for *hiccup* him.” Tim opens his mouth in shock, eyes bulged and heart rate increasing with hope; he thought she was happy with Chris, but knowing that that might not be the case, he feels himself feeling lighter for the first time in weeks. “I bet you’re a great boyfriend, Ashley’s veryyyy lucky” Tim smiles in disbelief, worrying he’s imagining this in his head, so he says the only thing that he can think to say “thank you, Chris is very lucky too.”
“What do you think of him ?” Lucy questions, eyes scanning Tim’s face for any tells. “I uh- he’s nice” Lucy chuckles and recalls earlier on that day “Angela said that saying that is usually not a good thing” he’s stuck for words now, because Angela’s right, he didn’t mean “nice” in a good way, what he meant to say was ‘he’s definitely not good enough for you’, but now was not the time nor the place for it. “Yeah, well Angela says a lot of things” he brushes off Lucy’s question and tries to divert her attention elsewhere “drink your water”. As she takes a sip, her eyes become heavy with sleep, her bed calling her loudly. “I’m going to sleep”
Tim catches her as her head lulls to one side glass caught in his other before it can shatter to the floor. “Okay, just drink this and then you can go to sleep”
“Ughhh, Tim, I just wanna sleeeeep” he chuckles once again, debating wether or not he should film this so he can tease her about it at work; the look on her face would be a sight to see, but he decides against it as she begins to cry. “ I just- I just wish love was easier. Like- I wish I just felt at one with Chris, I wish it was easy and I wish I *hiccup* could just be myself- like it is with me and you.” Tim’s eyes glaze over and he can’t help but brush a tear from Lucy’s cheek, the need to envelop her growing stronger by the second. His brain short circuits at the declaration of her words. ‘Like it is with me and you?’ Is she saying she has feelings for him, or is she just stating that it’s easy with him, no romantic implication behind it ? It’s safe to say that she’s caused his mind to race wildly tonight.
“Lucy-“ “I’m tired, can I sleep now?” Tim halts in the middle of his sentence, coming to the conclusion that he probably shouldn’t read too much into anything she’s said, because she’s not in the right state of mind. He peers over to her glass of water, satisfied that she’s drank enough and nods softly, helping her into her room. The question of how to get her into more comfortable clothes becomes intelligible, he can’t get her dressed himself so the only option is to turn around whilst she dresses herself and hope that she doesn’t tumble and injure herself.
As if Lucy had read his thoughts, she tilts her head up at Tim and states that she’s too tired to get changed, and is just going to sleep in the clothes she already has on. Tim nods and follows her to the bed, laying her down gently and putting her in the recovery position. His head may be swirling, but nothing could ever stop him from making sure she’s safe. As she gets comfortable, he brings the remaining water and some Advil and tells her to take two so that her hangover isn’t too bad in the morning. Lucy’s heart warms at the sight of him taking care of her; this is what it’s supposed to feel like, she thinks to herself. She swallows the Advil down and puts herself back into the position that Tim had previously put her in.
With a tired yawn and sniffle, she cracks an eye open to gain Tim’s attention and sends him an adoring smile. “Thank you again, for bringing me home, and for taking care of me”
“No problem Lucy, I’m here whenever you need me” the sincerity in his voice sets a calm over the room, and Lucy nuzzles her head into her pillow, nose scrunching when the material tickles her. “I’ll see you at work” he places a friendly hand upon her shoulder, but as he looks at her, cuddled up in bed, hair falling into the pillows, he can’t help but to brush a strand behind her ear. He turns towards the door and tiptoes gently so he doesn’t wake her up; then he remembers ‘I know the game was on tonight’- he never did find out how she knew, so he took a chance, whispering out the question once again, expecting no response from the half asleep woman in bed. “How did you know the game was on tonight ?” When he gets no reply after 5 seconds, he continues to walk out of the room, preparing himself to take his trip back home. But then it comes.
“Because…it’s you”

Chenford + what Tim test... your fake proposal to Ashley..
Hi 🥰here it is ❤️I just want to apologise to everyone for how long this took. I was hoping to have it finished at least a week ago, but I’ve been so ridiculously busy and was struggling to find the time to write. I’m literally never busy so when I said ‘hoping to get this up within the next day’ I really meant it 🤣so again, I’m so sorry for the wait. I hope it’s okay ❤️
Summary: ‘I got mad after one of your Tim tests’ Tim couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something deeper at play, and it isn’t long before he’s questioning Lucy to tell him the truth.
Incl- Angst, Hurt/comfort, slight fluff
Warnings- the recollection of that moment that we all hated and a mention of the two clueless people we also hated.
A Chenford fic- What Tim test ?
Tim had been thinking about what Lucy had said the other day ‘I got mad after one of your Tim tests.’ He thought it was funny at the time- even cute, but now he wondered what had made her so mad ? He’s been giving her ‘Tim tests’ since the very first day of her rookie year, what one suddenly hit so hard that she felt she had to retaliate ?
As Lucy clattered around in the kitchen, Tim watched her in deep thought; he had a feeling that when she previously stated ‘I actually can’t remember’ that she most certainly did. Was now the moment to bring it up? “Luce ?” Lucy looked up with a smile of bliss on her face, the kitchen island lights bouncing off her chocolate honey eyes. Maybe now wasn’t the time; she looked happy and relaxed- a feeling that doesn’t come by all too often in their line of work, and Tim didn’t want to bring up something that had obviously caused her some anguish in the past.
Lucy looks towards him, eyebrows raised in curiosity “Tim ? You okay ? You’ve been staring at me for 3 minutes. I thought you had a question ?” She huffs out a small giggle, amused by the far away look in her boyfriends eyes. “Oh, sorry, it doesn’t matter now.” As he turns his head to face away from her, hoping that she won’t push it any further, Lucy paces softly towards him, a narrow eyed look on her face., one hand resting sassily on her hip “Tell me.” The heightened sharpness in her voice a tell tale sign that she’s not going to let this go anytime soon, so Tim gives in and asks the question that’s been plaguing him.
“What was the Tim test ? The one that made you so mad that you signed me up for make a dream ?.” At the utterance of his words, Lucy’s eyes widen, her lips parting to make an ‘o’ shape. She looked nervous and embarrassed, and Tim swears he could see a slight sadness in her vision at the recollection. As if wishing for the situation to go away, Lucy closes her eyes tightly, causing little creases to spread at the corners of her eyes. “I already told you; I can’t remember.” Tim rolls his eyes at her stubbornness; she may often accuse him of being the stubborn one, but she’s not far behind him. “Well I’m not buying it, so spit it out.”
Lucy sighs in defeat, the thought of having to talk about it sending waves of nausea through her body. “Um…it was um, it was when you fake proposed to Ashley.” An eerie silence falls over the room, Tim’s jaw drops at the revelation- he hadn’t realised she’d been so upset by it; at the time, he thought it would be a funny way of ‘teaching her’ that she shouldn’t poke her nose so much into his personal life- a lesson he’d been trying to teach her from day one but has since given up on and admitted defeat; not that he minds.
“The fake proposal ?” Tim’s words come out wobbly and unsure, Lucy’s confession has shaken him more than he thought. He hadn’t necessarily thought too hard about the way it could’ve hurt her- he didn’t know how she felt at that point, and a part of him wanted to see what her reaction would be- but Hurt was not something he ever wanted to see flashing across his girlfriend’s eyes, especially when he was the cause. Yet here she was; glassy eyes that have been darting around and avoiding him at all costs since she first spoke up and told him the truth.
Tim’s hand reaches for his face, brushing his fingers down his skin in disbelief- how could he hurt her like that and not have realised it ? Why didn’t she say anything at the time ? Was she hurt because he fooled her or was she hurt because she had feelings for him at the time ? “But- you were with- you were with Chris, I don’t understand. You knew it was a prank within 30 seconds of it happening, why were you so upset ?” No words followed Tim’s questioning, only the sound of the living room clock ticking at them both in mockery.
“Luce. Please, talk to me. This is clearly something we need to talk about.” He looked at her with a softened gaze, his curiosity put on the back burner in exchange for his concern for her. As he focuses more intently on her, he notices the quickening of her breathing and the shake of her legs; she’s angry- an emotion he didn’t quite expect when the conversation began. She was close to tears only minutes ago, but now- now she looked like she was ready to scream.
Lucys nostrils flare, her fists clenching alongside them as she replays Tim’s question in her head ‘why were you so upset?’ She can’t believe he doesn’t know. Sure, they were with other people when it had happened, but Tim isn’t stupid- how could he possibly not have known that that would upset her given their history ? The echoing of his words push her body off the couch, her stance rigid and her arms flailing in the air. “Are you KIDDING ME?!” The atmosphere shifts as soon as the words leave her mouth. This is no longer a cute little question and answer, this is an argument now.
Tim widens his eyes at his girlfriends demeanour, the sight of her this angry chilling him to his core. One thing people often forget to mention about sunshine people, is that despite the fact that they’re the sweetest, most positive people on earth, if you make them angry, you’re going to need all the help you can get, because they’re not going to back down. At all. Tim knows this about Lucy, and until now, he thought that her mood change when angry was hilarious- now it’s not so funny. As he watches her mouth open again, he takes a deep breath and braces himself for what’s to come- the wrath of Lucy Chen; and as much as he loves her and knows that this mood will diminish very soon, the only thing running through his mind as he watches her is ‘I’m screwed’.
“WHY WERE YOU SO UPSET ?!!! Hmmm, I don’t know- let me think Tim….Oh.. yes that’s it ! When you ‘proposed’ to her, I didn’t find it that humorous actually. I know we hadn’t spoken at all about our feelings then, but there’s always been something Tim, always ! And you know it.” Her voice begins to shake, the anger slowly levelling out as the hurt resurfaces in her chest. “In that moment, when I thought you’d actually proposed to her… I felt.. so stupid. Like ‘oh, this has been in my head, I’ve made it all up- every look, every touch, it didn’t mean the same to him.’ And yeah, i had a boyfriend- I know I did, so maybe I didn’t have the right to be upset, but it doesn’t change the fact that I was. I know you didn’t mean to Tim, but… you broke my heart that day. I couldn’t breathe until I knew it was fake. I went home, and I cried for hours. I lost a bit of hope for us that night because i thought ‘why would he pull this on me if he even felt a little of what I feel for him?”
A quiet fills the room. The air clings tightly to the words spoken, the silence only making them ring louder. ‘You broke my heart.’ Words that have never left the lips of anyone he’d been with before; he was usually the one left heartbroken; but had just left the lips of the person who means more to him than life itself. He’d. broken. Her. Heart.
Tim sits in shock, his hands glued to his side, his chest bubbling with guilt. He shifts his eyes momentarily towards Lucy, only this time, she’s not avoiding his gaze; she’s staring Intently at him with an anxious expression. ‘Say something. Please’ She begs inaudibly to herself. The wait is unbearable- she struggles to pin point the expression on her boyfriends face- all she sees is shock, and all she hears is the sound of her own rapid pulse. Tears begin to cloud her eyes once again, this is it- she’s lost him. As she looks up and slowly moves her body to Turn away from him, she’s stopped by the sudden gentle but firm grip of her boyfriend’s arms.
It takes a moment for her to react, her mind still trying to catch up with Tim’s actions after she’d convinced herself only seconds ago that she’d messed this all up. As if sensing exactly what she was thinking, Tim turns her around in his arms and buries her face into his chest, his hands softly cupping and caressing her hair as he gives warm comforting kisses to her head. “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry” his apology reverberates off of every wall, the murmuring of it releases a sob from Lucy’s chest. “I’m sorry sweetheart, I’m so so sorry.”
When Tim notices that Lucy’s breathing has only quickened, he reaches to cup her face in his hands, fingers tilting her chin up so that their eyes can meet, fingers shakily wiping each tear as they fall “I- I didn’t know. I’m so sorry Luce. I didn’t know.” His whisper is so soft that Lucy feels a slight tickle on her face from his breath. His expression is mirroring hers now- watery eyes, furrowed brows, a clenching of his jaw that’s clearly appeared to persuade his tears not to fall. She begins to think of the day they met; she thought he was such an ass. He was mean to her, he never gave her a smile or a look of reassurance, yet there was something in her that refused to give up on him. A feeling that had never left. She looked at Tim, and watched as the Tim she first met and the Tim she was with now meshed together- how could she possibly be mad at this man when her heart so desperately clung to him?
Lucy buries her face into him once again, taking a not so subtle moment to smell his shirt to help her gather her thoughts and calm her breathing. “No. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I know you were only pranking me because I was being super annoying that day. And I know you’d never hurt me on purpose. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have even brought it up.. it’s not your fault Tim.”
“It’s not yours either” he states with conviction. “You were hurt and I was the reason for it. And just because I was stupid enough to not realise, doesn’t mean that I don’t owe you an apology.” He moves slowly away from Lucy but keeps a tight grip on her hand, pulling her down with him to lie back onto the couch, his arms wrapping tightly around her waist, their legs entwining with each other with no effort required. Neither of them speak for an hour, they just lay there in each others arms, faces nuzzling into one another, and thanking every Lucky star that they ended up here.
The comfort and warmth radiating from Tim’s body begins to send Lucy to sleep, her eyes fluttering every few seconds to force herself to stay awake just that little bit longer. And she’s glad she did, because a minute later, when she’s cursing herself for fighting sleep that she so obviously needed; Tim breaks the silence. “The only woman I want to marry is you. And I knew that then too.”

something ‘bout the way (you just get me)
the rookie | lucy chen/tim bradford
She can’t remember the nightmare, now that she’s awake, but she knows the gist of it. It’s always the same, after all.
Sometimes, Lucy has nightmares. Tim is there when she wakes up.
(Honestly, Lucy saying she had nightmares in 5x18 has been in my head since the episode aired, so here’s my take on what that could look like!)

Chenford + discuss UC school
Hey 🥰Thankyou so much for your request. I hope everyone likes it. 💕Not sure if this is specifically what you meant, but i got inspired and kind of just ran with it 😂let me know what you think 🥰
Inc: lots of fluff, angst/comfort. Just their little love bubble.
Warnings: none that I can think of.
Chenford- It’s me and you
It had been plaguing his mind since Valentine’s Day. The idea of Lucy going UC more often had thrown him more than he first thought it would. He was incredibly supportive of Lucy’s decision to go to UC school and was so proud of her for how far she’s come, but as soon as her friend Noah had said that it was difficult on a relationship, his heart had sank to his stomach. He wasn’t wrong, it is. He knows from past experience from when he was married to Isobel, and he certainly didn’t want the same thing to happen to him and Lucy.
Tim had pushed the worries aside for a couple of days, telling himself that everything would be fine and the only reason it freaked him out was because of his trauma from Isobel. He kept telling himself ‘Lucy isn’t Isobel’ over and over to soothe his mind, but then it clicked… ‘Lucy isn’t Isobel’. Tim had obviously loved his wife when they were together, and it had clearly hurt him at the time when things ended, but the way he felt for Lucy; it was unlike anything he had ever felt. He’d never felt this happy, this in love, this safe, this hopeful for the future. He couldn’t lose her, he just couldn’t.
“Tim, are you okay?” Lucy looked at him with a soft expression on her face, eyebrows furrowed in worry, and only then did Tim realise that he’s been staring at his and Lucys yet to be filled coffee mugs for over 5 minutes. His lips parted, head trying to catch up and come up with an answer to her question; it did not work.
Lucy’s pace quickened as she made her way to Tim, her expression contorted into one of anxiety and concern. Her hand cupped Tim’s cheek within an instant, her fingers stroking the slight scruff on Tim’s chin, secretly loving that he hadn’t shaved yet. Her other arm found comfort in his bicep, lightly gripping him as if the act would somehow give her the answer she needed. “Babe?”
The waver in Lucys voice breaks Tim from his zone out, alerting him that he hasn’t said a single word. He shakes his head and rubs the back of his hand over his face, cupping the hand of Lucy’s that still lay rested on his cheek. He nuzzles his nose into the inside of her palm, and places a long, adoring kiss to her skin. He moans lightly at the smell of mango that rested there, replaying this morning when she told him all about this new hand cream that she got on sale.
“I’m fine Luce, sorry I worried you” At his words, Lucy let her hands fall down from Tim and frustratedly crossed her arms. Oh no, she was mad. Tim didn’t want to talk to angry Lucy right now, he wanted her to tease him or playfully punch him in the arm; angry Lucy rarely came out. He remembers the last time she was angry like this, it was after he’d gotten annoyed at her for not reporting what he had said when he was in quarantine. Lucy had rightly called him out on his hypocritical stance, and rightly so, but it didn’t mean it didn’t make his heart twinge a little to see her anger directed at him.
“Don’t do that. We don’t do that. We tell each other how we’re feeling. We promised we’d never lie to each other, remember” her tone is sharp and almost deflated, the sound of her upset makes his heart clench. It’s not that he doesn’t want to tell her, he’d rather be in great physical amounts of pain than ever lie to or hurt Lucy Chen. He just doesn’t want to worry her, or dissuade her from UC work. He knows her, and he knows that if she finds out that he’s this worried, she’s going to put him first and sacrifice what could potentially be her dream job, and that’s the last thing he wants.
Tim sighs, knowing that she isn’t going to let it go. His girlfriend is way too caring and empathetic to ever let him deal with anything alone; he loves that about her. Tim glances nervously to the side for a second, begging the burnt orange walls to give him some help on what to say.
“Okay. But I need you to promise me that you won’t make any rash decisions because you want to protect me”
“What ?”
“Promise me Luce” Lucy hesitates for a second, fingers twiddling with her moonstone ring, not sure how she can promise such a thing when she doesn’t even know what the problem is yet, but this clearly means a lot to Tim and that’s enough for her. “Okay, I promise” she gently reaches her hand out and guides Tim to the sofa, sitting them both down and turns her body to completely face her boyfriend, keeping her hands firmly in his. “It’s okay, you can tell me”
Tim looks into her eyes, the cocoa colour making him feel warm and comforted immediately. She is looking at him with the most genuine and affectionate gaze, that he has to remind himself to breathe. It still stuns him that he has her. This beautiful ball of sunshine chose him, and she doesn’t want anything from him, she just wants him. Lucy sends him a gleaming smile of encouragement, and that’s all he needs to find his words.
“Can I talk to you about UC school?”
Lucy doesn’t hide her surprise, she wasn’t expecting him to say anything about UC school. She’s already been and told him everything that happened, and he was so excited to hear it, he even made a joke about how she could be a movie star now if she wanted.
“Yeah, of course we can. Is that what’s bothering you ? You were the one to tell me to go”
Tim starts to trace patterns on Lucy’s thigh, head racing with ways he can explain why it’s suddenly troubled him after all this time. “I’m not worried about anything to do with UC school, I just want to know how it made you feel”
“Wha- how it made me feel ? What do you mea-“ “Lucy” Tim stares deeply into her eyes, a conversation being translated from him to her. She knows why he’s asking now; it had caught her attention when they were in the truck with Noah. The way Tim went silent, and turned to look out the window after sending her a nervous glance. At the time she thought it was because of Noah; she could tell that Tim wasn’t his biggest fan, but now the pieces are fitting together and she knows now that there was another reason.
“It’s reminding you of what happened with Isobel isn’t it ?” Lucy’s eyes become glassy with tears, she wishes she’d had this conversation with him before. The idea of him going through this by himself breaks her heart, she should have seen this in the truck, but instead, she’s been distracted by the bliss she’s been feeling every time she’s around him.
“Oh my god, Tim I’m so sorry” her hand reaches to cover her mouth, still processing the fact that she missed this. She had been thinking he’d been acting slightly different the last few days, but she’d come to the conclusion that he was just tired from metro; he’d a had a lot of late nights lately.
Tim’s brows scrunch up, his own eyes becoming glassy when he sees Lucy’s. He doesn’t want her to think this is her fault at all. It’s neither of their faults, life just likes to throw curve balls sometimes, and this is one of those times. “Luce” he utters so softly, she almost doesn’t hear it. He takes her chin between his fingers and lightly lifts her head so that her eyes meet his. “You have nothing to be sorry for. At all. What could you have to possibly be sorry about ?” Tim notices the way she looks up, trying to calm herself down and not let any tears fall. He notices the slight sniff from her nose, indicating that she’s more upset about than she’s prepared to let on. “Talk to me boot”
Lucy laughs, punching Tim playfully in the arm “I’m not a boot! You’re more of a boot than I am !”
“I know, I had to get you to respond somehow” the smirk on his face sends butterflies through her tummy; she goes to give him another playful pat, but Tim skilfully catches her hand and instead, pulls her into a kiss. “Talk to me” he whispers, lips still lightly feathering her own.
“I feel guilty that I didn’t notice you were struggling. I should have known ! I could sense you were feeling off, but I thought you were just tired from metro. It shouldn’t have taken this for me to-“
“Luce, I’m okay. I was just thinking through it with myself so I didn’t worry you because of my insecurity that you’d leave and I’d lose you. Please don’t feel guilty” he gently cups her cheek, thumb caressing her skin gently. “I should have said something to you about it, I’m sorry.” Lucy sends him a loving smile and nods her head, strands of hair falling into her face gracefully. She takes a deep breath, preparing herself for the conversation she knows they’re about to have; will she go undercover full time?.
“I did love UC school. I learnt so much and I really do enjoy undercover work. And I’m good at it, I know that. But if I’m being honest with myself, I feel a little conflicted” Tim’s eyes widen in surprise “you do ?”
“Yeah. I mean, to begin with, I haven’t technically had chance to fully experience any other unit yet, and I feel like I should maybe try some more things outside of UC to decide what I want to do. Then there’s the whole ‘relationship killer’ thing. Everyone had a story about it being tense on their relationships- and the thought of that happening to us, it’s, i- I don’t even want to think about it. And then there’s the issue of it when we have kids. I don’t want to be absent in our babies’ life. I want to be there, i want them to know that they can rely on me whatever time of the day. Nyla’s told me how difficult UC is when kids are involved.”
Lucy turns her head to her left, eyes locking on Tim, discerning his now open-mouthed, adoring appearance. “Babe? You okay ?” The biggest smile breaks out on his face “our babies ?” He teases her. Lucy scoffs, a small chuckle escaping her throat. “Shut up! I made you very aware of our future on our second date!” She retorts to him. Tim comically lifts his hands into the surrender position, snickering at his girlfriends quick defence. He loves messing with her like this, she always gives as good as she gets and he’s addicted to the way it makes him feel. “Hey, hey! No complaints here, I just love how it sounds” he softens his eyes for a second, focusing completely on her, hoping she gets the message- he means it; he loves how it sounds and he can’t wait for the day when they can both say it for real.
Focusing back on the matter at hand, Tim slightly shuffles on the couch and once again places his hands upon Lucy’s thighs. “Okay, so you’re clearly conflicted” she nods fervently.
“You’re not just saying this because of me are you ?”
“No, Tim. This is genuinely how I’ve been feeling for a while. I just thought if I put it to the back of my mind for a while, then maybe it’d come to me and I’d figure out what to do. But it hasn’t. So… what do we do ?” She looks pleadingly at him, hoping he’ll have some insightful Tim Bradford advice.
“That’s not my decision, and it shouldn’t be. Luce, you’re amazing at undercover work. I’ve seen you time and time again and you excel at it. Even Noah said you were the best in the class; not that I ever had any doubt that you would be” Lucy smiles, a slight blush colouring the apples of her cheeks. “If you do choose to go UC, even though it might be hard on both of us, we will work it out. It’s me and you. We’re a team. And there’s no way on this earth that I am ever letting you go. Whatever you decide, I’m here. And I’m here whenever you want to talk through any other unit options if that’s what you decide. I can work through my difficulties with it, this is about you, not me”
Lucy’s overwhelmed with emotion. She can’t help but look up, thanking the universe for bringing her Tim Bradford. She’s always had commitment issues, never finding it easy to label her relationships or ‘get serious’ with anyone. But with Tim, she sees their entire future. And it doesn’t scare her, it excites her.
“I love you” she leans into him, burying her face into his chest, his fingers waiting no more than a second to delve into her hair. Lucy lifts her head to peer at Tim; he’s all smiles, a clear weight has been lifted off him and he looks blissfully calm. He places his forehead against hers, the softness of her skin making him want to melt into her completely. “I love you too”
They sit there for hours, cuddled into each other, limbs entangled and hearts beating in sync. “Tim?” His eyes flutter, sleep soon to overtake him “hmm?”
“I’m not leaving you. You won’t lose me. Ever.”
“I’m not leaving you. You won’t lose me. Ever.”

you’re my morning sun
the rookie | lucy chen/tim bradford | 4.5k
She’d only been a block away when the call came through, and she almost put her foot through the bottom of the patrol car with how hard she stepped on the gas, flipping her lights on and checking her mirrors on autopilot along the way.
“Lucy, wait,” Aaron starts when she jumps out of the shop, nearly forgetting to put it in park before jogging towards the dumpster where he just found the body. He blocks her path and grips her shoulders. “You shouldn’t–”
(in which there is a mixup. later on, lucy’s phone dies at the worst possible time.)

For the anon that requested a fanfic of the headcanon 🥰Here’s a little fanfic of everyone finding out about chenford. I hope it’s okay 💖it’s not the best, i won’t lie 🤣 I haven’t written in ages but I’ve given it a go. Let me know what you think 🥰
Inc: mostly just lots of fluff. Slight suggestion of smut (barely noticeable) but no actual smut or explicit mention of it.
Everyone finding out about chenford
Tim walks up to Lucy in the break room with a flustered look on his face “hey, what’s wrong ?” Lucy says, immediately noticing the change in Tim’s demeanour. Tim shuffles nervously, hands rested firmly on his belt. “I am fairly confident that Angela knows about us” Lucy stops in her tracks, coffee pot mid air “What ?! How ? We’ve been so careful !” Tim shrugs, his hands reaching for his face to try and release some of the pent up adrenaline that’s soaring through his system. “I don’t know ! We must’ve slipped up at some point.” Lucy scoffs, surely she would’ve noticed if Angela knew right ? I mean, she’s a cop for goodness sake, she figures things out for a living !. Looking up in despair, she sets the coffee pot down carefully on the counter. “No. She doesn’t” she answers in protest. Tim raises an eyebrow and a small smirk starts playing at the corner of his lips. “Then how else would you explain her asking me ‘so, whose bed’s comfier, yours or Lucy’s ?’” Lucy’s jaw drops, and with a purse of her lips, utters “okay, yeah. She knows”. Tim looks around at the empty break room with a quick glance out the windows. Stepping forward, he reaches his hand out and lightly brushes his fingers against hers. “Guess we should probably tell everyone now huh?”
“Yeah, we can do it tonight at John and Baileys game night, everyone will be there. I’ll just say it instantly, I cannot wait all night in suspense of what their reactions will be” Tim chuckles lowly to himself, but for a moment let’s fear cloud his judgment “do you not want them to know?” Lucy looks up, realising that Tim has taken her worry the wrong way. Without even a moment to think, she’s cupping his face, eyebrows furrowed and a sincerity in her eyes that is so genuine, it almost brings Tim to tears. “Of course I do ! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you worry. I was just getting stressed because I’ve never had to like, make an ‘announcement’ before. I mean, they know us both as ‘Lucy and Tim’ but not as ‘Lucy and Tim’ you know ?” Tim nods, a slight pent up breath leaving him. “I’m really happy with you. This is the happiest, most loving, healthiest relationship I’ve ever been in. I just want everything surrounding it to go well” He nods in understanding and this time it’s his turn to comfort Lucy. “Look. No matter what happens when we tell everyone, it won’t change anything about us. Okay ? You and me ? This isn’t gonna change.” A beaming smile erupts on Lucy’s face and she gives him a quick nudge with her hip “you know, this whole having feelings for me thing has really made you into quite the optimist” her smile very quickly turns into a playful accusatory smirk, her hands behind her back, heels smugly bobbing up and down off the floor. Tim’s eyes roll so high up to the skies that Lucy swears she can see her own reflection in the whites of them. The corners of his upturned lips give him away though, and she is absolutely certain that Tim Bradford just got caught red handed; he loves it when she messes with him. ‘Zip it Chen’ “ohhhhh, Chen now is it ? Well, well, well, suppose I should get back to work then” she leaves the room with a skip in her step, Tim looking ahead at her, eyes focused on every step she takes, thanking his lucky stars that Lucy Chen is no longer just his ‘co-worker’ although, she never really was ‘just that’ to him.
Later on that night
“Okay, let’s run through the plan again” Lucy lets out a shaky breath and turns to Tim outside Johns front door, arms resting safely on his, hoping that everything will go to plan and that they can finally just be a couple out in the open. “Luce” he reassures, bringing his hands out to slowly rest over hers, fingers grazing lightly up and down to give her some calm. He doesn’t want Lucy to get herself in a spin about it. He knows she’s worried because she greatly values the others’ opinions, and she’s always been one to care what others think. “We’ve got this. Okay ?” Her head nods rapidly in agreement , the anxiety that was bubbling in her chest almost instantly vanishing at the earnest tone in her boyfriends voice. “You’re right. We’ve got this, it’ll all be fine. I am prepared for any and all teasing that will be sent our way” she jokes. Both of them give each other a look of encouragement before gathering themselves and reaching for the door. “Oh, one more thing” Tim’s head whips round, noticing a glint in his girlfriends eyes. “What ?” He ask softly. Lucy just smile and reaches up to Tim, heels off the floor, arms now wrapped comfortably around Tim’s neck. Before he can even register what’s happening, Lucy quickly leans forward and brushes her glossy lips against his. A small moan erupts from Tim, loving the warmth that not only his lips are now feeling, but his chest too; before he can even attempt to deepen the kiss, his reason for being left flustered has already entered the Nolan residence. “Is she serious?” He mumbles lowly to himself, now questioning his choices to come tonight. why didn’t they just decide to stay home together tonight ? He sure as hell wants to be home with her now. Rallying himself together, he exhales and follows Lucy into the house.
A few hours into game night
Lucy looks to Tim, eyes darting from him to the rest of the group, signalling him it’s time. Tim sends her a quick wink, and clears his throat loudly, catching the attention of the group. “So, me and Lucy wanted to tell you all something” “is it-“ Nyla grasps Angela’s arm and shoots her a glance. The message is understood. This has to be Tim and Lucy’s announcement. Lucy dramatically lifts herself up off the couch, hands clasped together, a new confidence radiating off of her, and faces the group. Tim Bradford is the one for her. And here’s her chosen family, sat around together, in the midst of a very enjoyable (let’s not forget chaotic) game night. There couldn’t be a more prefect time to tell everyone. “Me and Tim are dating” “we have been for a few weeks actually” Tim joyously chimes in. Silence. No one utters a word, Nolan’s clock can be heard ticking in the background, mimicking the new couples tense heart rate. Before either of them get a chance to question it, Angela’s thunderous laughter breaks the quiet. Then everyone begins to laugh. Loud, happy, uproarious laughs. “Excuse me ? What’s so funny ?” Both Lucy and Tim’s eyebrows have furrowed in defensiveness, not sure what to make of this unexpected reaction. “Calm down” Angela manages to articulate, despite the giggles still leaving her mouth. “We’re only laughing because we know” “what ?” Tim’s eyebrows somehow furrow even more, eyes circling to Lucy’s noticing just as much confusion in hers. “You can’t all know already. We suspected Angela might, but there’s no way the rest of you knew” Lucy nods rapidly in agreement. Angela doesn’t let them continue their protest for a second longer. She reaches into her jeans pocket, and reveals her phone so victoriously that she looked as though she were holding a trophy. “You two, are not subtle. Like, at ALL” she takes a prideful stride towards them and open up her photos app. Lucy looks to Tim for help “what’s happening?” all he can grant her is a slight widening of his eyes and a shrug of his shoulders. Nyla starts to smirk from the couch, readjusting herself to find a comfier position “oh, this is gonna be good” she whispers to James, lifting the beer smugly to her mouth. “So here’s some pictures I’ve gathered over the last few weeks. What’s interesting about them is that, I wasn’t even trying to catch you. You just made it that easy” so much delight erupts from Angela’s voice that Lucy can’t help but release a small smile. She knows that her and Tim are about to get the teasing of a lifetime.
One picture turned into ten, pictures of them holding hands, leaning closely to one another, Angela somehow even got one of them kissing in Tim’s car at the end of shift ! Soon enough, Tim was ordering Angela to put her phone away because they ‘get the point’. “Why didn’t any of you say anything if you knew ?” It’s Aaron’s turn to speak up now “we wanted you to do it in your own time. It’s not like we didn’t see this coming, I mean, I thought you two were already together when I came to mid-Wilshire’ “yeah !” Celina interrupts, “your auras match so perfectly together and I could always sense a deep, loving connection between you two. You can’t make that stuff up. Actually, whilst we’re talking about it, can I analyse your birth charts ?” “No” “omg yes” Tim and Lucy utter in sync. Lucy looks to Tim and places her hand softly on his bicep, lightly stroking up and down. “Oh, cmon, Please ?” She pouts. Tim looks at her playful pout, and hears her plea, but all he can focus on is the way her fingers are gently caressing the hair on his arms “Okay, fine, but I don’t need to know about it” who is he kidding ? He’s going to let her tell him every little detail. “yes !, Celina, we will have our birth charts analysed please” Lucy runs over to Celina, phone in hand and smile so big and beautiful, Tim is convinced it could cure all the worlds problems. “Am I the only one confused ? I had no idea this was happening the last few weeks, this is great ! Did everyone know about this ?” Bailey turns to Nolan, surprise not concealed at all “babe, really ? It’s so obvious” she laughs, giving his shoulder a reassuring pat “it’s okay, you’ve been busy with TO work, it’s understandable you wouldn’t have noticed” another laugh escapes her. “Wouldn’t have noticed ?!” Wesley joins in, “I’m barely even at the station and I knew !” Angela looks to her husband lovingly, a smile playing at her lips “yeah, we’ve been gossiping about it together almost every day” Tim rolls his eyes, making sure to stop at Lucy on the way. He watches her, curiously leaned over her phone with Celina ‘god, she’s so amazing’ he thinks to himself. Angela quickly excuses herself from the group, and pulls Tim to one side. He looks at her in puzzlement. “I’m really happy for you, I’ve never seen you ever look this happy. You and Lucy are great together.” The two close friends smile fondly at each other, and wrap each other in a warm hug. Angela knows of Tim’s past and how much of a toll his relationship with Isabel took on him. And it doesn’t take a genius to know that Lucy Chen only ever has Tim’s best interests at heart. She’s so glad her two friends have finally admitted how they felt. “I really am” Tim beams, sneaking a glance at Lucy again, the warmth in his chest growing at the sight of her. “Oh, by the way” Angela cuts in on his thoughts “pinks a good colour on you” pink ? What is she talking about, he’s not got anything pink on. Angela notices his bewilderment and slyly points at her lips, walking away and giggling to herself again. Tim reaches up and touches his lips, surprised to feel something sticky on them. He pulls his hand away to find a pink stain with little specks of glitter swimming in it. Lucy’s kiss outside of Nolan’s door suddenly comes flooding back to him and all he can do is stand there, jaw slacked and a glare sent Lucy’s way. Lucy momentarily switches her attention from the phone to Tim for a second, eyes widening as she realises what’s going on. Her hand covers her mouth almost instantly, a smile breaking both her and Tim’s faces, laughter bubbling out not long after. Angela was right, they really aren’t that subtle.

As requested, here is Tim’s version (since we’re getting worried chenford pretty soon.)
TIM’S VERSION:
Tim and Aaron were breathing heavily as they had just avoided a close call from death. Police sirens were wailing from a distance—and no, it wasn’t the sirens from their shop.
Lucy swerved around the corner when she grew closer and closer to their location.
She hopped out the car — at first, she nearly forgot to unbuckle her seatbelt due to the worry that had taken over her brain. “Oh my god!” She yelled as she ran over to Tim, “Are you okay?”
A faint smile played against Tim’s lips when he saw her, she cupped his face, her eyes scanned his entire body for cuts, blood, or any other sign of injury. He chuckle, “Yeah, I’m uh—I’m okay now.”
She placed her hands all over his body, “Oh my god,” she muttered, “Are you in pain?” Her hands found their way back to his face.
Tim placed his hands on her wrists as he began to move her hands away from his face, “Lucy…” he said her name softly. But she didn’t listen, “…Luce.”
“Who the hell did this to you?” She intertwined her fingers with his, “I wanna know everything about this person.”
“Luce, stop,” he demanded with a reassuring smile, “Im not hurt, okay? Thorsen and I managed to get out safely. And—don’t worry, our suspect’s gone.”
Her eyebrows furrowed downward, “Tim, why would expect me to not worry? This guy is still on the loose and you just want me to act like everything’s fine—”
“—No, Luce, I meant the suspects…down there,” he pointed at the intersection that was below them.
“Oh…Well—you should’ve just said that to begin with!” She yelled as she gently swatted his arm.
Aaron came from behind Tim, “Hey Lucy!” He waved at her, trying to grab her attention.
“Hey Aaron—” She greeted him flatly, she scoffed as she pulled Tim in for a hug, “I’m just so happy that you’re okay,” she mumbled into her shoulder.
Tim closed his eyes shut and sighed as he wrapped his arms around her. With the pad of his thumb, he rubbed her back, “Yeah, me too, Luce.” He mumbled into her hair.
Meanwhile, Aaron frowned in confusion as he stood back and watched them share a tight embrace.
——————————————————————————-
By the end of shift, Tim and Lucy were walking side-by-side as they were making their way towards the exit of the precinct.
“So…” She began, she walked in front of Tim — stopping him from going any further, “…I was wondering, maybe I could spend the night at your place? Y’know to keep an eye on you.”
“Wait, you want to spend the night at my place to ‘keep an eye on me?’” A forced chuckle escaped his lips as he looked into the distance and then back at her.
“And maybe we could just…chill too. I mean, I-I” she stammered, “It’s up to you it’s your place anyways.”
He nodded as he tilted his bottom lip downwards “alright,” he gave in, “Sure you can spend the night at my place to… ‘chill.’”
Then, he stepped closer to her, closing the last bit of space that was left between them, “And by ‘chill’ you so mean sex, right?” He whispered.
“Yeah, of course.”
His eyes widened and a smirk formed on her face, “The what the hell are we still doing here, Luce,” he looked behind his shoulder and then back at her, “Let’s go.”

Sneak peek of the upcoming fanfic ‘everyone finding out about Chenford’
Let me know how it looks so far. I haven’t written in ages so this literally may be complete crap 🤣so I’m open to any constructive criticism 💖please be kind though, I’m a sensitive soul 🤣
I mean, she’s a cop for goodness sake, she figures things out for a living ! She knows”.

Chenford ❤️ + "are you in love with him?"
“Who…Chris?”
Tim nodded, for the longest — he’s been watching Lucy and Chris leave the precinct each and every day. And it pains him to see a smile on Lucy’s face when she looks at…him.
“Yeah, that’s the one—are you actually in love with him or is this just an act?”
A forced chuckle had escaped Lucy’s lips. Her eyebrows furrowed down at Tim’s choice of words, “What type of question is that, Tim? Why would it be an ‘act?’”
“Because I’ve seen you happier. Because you invited me into your apartment to have sex, you completely forgot about his existence and now you’re just….dating?”
Lucy looked over at the busy officers in the bullpen as she heavily sighed. This isn’t the type of conversation she had in mind, and this was the last place she thought of to talk about feelings with Tim.
“Listen….I felt guilty about what happened to him. So I just decided to stay. I thought it was best for me.”
Tim began to close the empty space between him and Lucy. He shook his head while his eyes scanned her face, “Lucy, you’re only hurting yourself by staying out of guilt. If you don’t really love him — do you love him?”
“N-No…I don’t. I never did. I mean I’m only with him cause you were with Ashley…and then his wrists were…” she scoffed when her hands covered her face.
He removed her hands from her face, “Lucy, listen to me…you shouldn’t be with someone you don’t love. It’s not fair to both you — and Chris. Just tell him.”
“Tell him what? I was never invested in the relationship? Because I was more worried about my boss and his relationship with his ex-girlfriend? Because I wanted to date my boss, or make him jealous? He isn’t gonna understand that, Tim.”
“Well make him understand,” he leaned in to Lucy’s personal space. He placed a peck just below her eye, “I’ll see you later, Lucy.”
She turned around on her heel and watched him walk off into the distance. She doesn’t want to see anyone get hurt—by anyone meaning Chris like he did before. It’s like she stabbed him in the back and twisted the knife, but hopefully he’ll somehow, in some way…understand where Lucy’s coming from. She loves Tim. And that’s just that.
