Ushijima Wakatoshi is not, by a long, an anxious person by nature. When pressure does bear down on him, he doesn’t buck nor bend; storms are meant to be weathered, and withstanding expectations is a show of character he has, unwittingly, claimed as his own; without real intention, or at least, none other than living up to standards he has set up for himself, without need or desire for recognition. Schoolwork, athletics, his volleyball career, the upcoming world championship, a recent injury just barely recovered from... all of these things, he signed up for. It’s all part of the deal, part of the game, to soar at the heights he aims for. Therefore... it is very atypical, for him to sit outside his house, to seek fresh air as though he ought to breathe better, his phone still hanging in his hand from the call he just hung up from. Footsteps draw him from his absent contemplation; shoulders straighten, and he looks up - “Oh, it’s you.” How late is it, for Yukako to just come back from her baito? “... how was work?” He asks, à propos of nothing; making small talk when he never does. A dead giveaway - but when has he ever been a good actor?
