Sometimes I feel ridiculous for loving “children” movies so much (i.e. the Mario movie, The Sea Beast, The Bad Guys, etc) but like I’m healing my inner child and those movies also give me serotonin and I’m not going to deprive myself of joy just bc some people think adults shouldn’t watch cartoons and movies geared towards children. We’re all still just kids, just a little taller and older

Finally got around to watching sea beast. (Spoilers ahead) God that movie is wonderful. Someone had told me they thought I’d like it because it reminded them of httyd and they had such good points. I am such a sucker for that trope of “bad things aren’t really bad there’s just been so much misunderstanding that’s led to destruction”.
The diversity within it! The fact that Maisie is wonderful inspiration for kids, and she had Sarah there as inspiration for herself! The way hunters aren’t seen as an exclusively male profession! And the biggest problem with Maisie wanting to be a hunter wasn’t the fact she was a girl! Just because of her age. I loved seeing that.
Visually it’s so stunning as well the use of perspective is just incredible. Like the perspective differences between Red and then with Maisie and Jacob? Like the use of the extreme wide shots throughout the film to take the sense of scale and make it feel very real? They left wonderful pauses that let the weight of the shot impact you, which can really be seen whenever people fall in water. Those moments of large scale seem to be granted more time which adds to the impact.
I also really loved the concept “you can be a hero and be wrong” because those people thought what they were doing was right, and were protecting the people around them. They were a hero to some, and a villain to others. The lines between good and bad are often not as cut and dry as they are made out to be. It doesn’t shame the hunters of the past and make them out to be monsters for what they did, but it does acknowledge that they might not have done what was right. That to truly understand their actions you need to have that accountability but also the understanding that at that time, they didn’t know any better.
And although it was more subtlety touched on in the film the commentary about the way history is dictated. That through the story there were constant miscommunications and facts that were untrue. From the very beginning when Jacob says he killed 5 instead of 4, it establishes an unreliable historical narrative, even if it’s not realized till later. And the fact that all of the books came from the same place, all with the same seal? Like anyone really paying attention could have spotted that, but they had no reason to question what they’d been told. And refusing to question what you’re told is fact can be dangerous and lead to mentalities like the sea beast being dangerous.
Also it was just cute yk I’m a sucker for the family dynamic and stuff yk what can I say it’s found family and basically pirates like there’s no way I couldn’t like that. But yeah! Wonderful film :)

Super Mario Bros Movie (2023)
Honestly, I don’t like Chris Pratt but those trailers did him dirty.
Set in modern day Brooklyn, New York, this movie follows the Mario brothers: Mario and Luigi. They start off as ordinary plumbers until they’re accidentally sucked through a warp pipe and, are separated. It’s up to Mario with the help of Princess Peach and Toad, to defeat King Bowser and save Luigi.
I enjoyed this movie. It didn’t linger too long in Brooklyn before we end up in the Mushroom Kingdom and the plot is thrown into full motion. I loved Princess Peach and love what they did with her backstory and, it just reinforced why Peach is so protective of the Toads besides “well she’s their Princess” it’s a strong family bond. And that’s what this movie is about, family.
And one other thing, I have never seen so many kids just sit there and watch a movie before. You want a quiet night out with the kids, take them to see this movie. This was a good time. 4/5.

Note
The Light Fury was designed to be a sexy love interest and has no character beyond that. The only reason she even exists is to separate Toothless from Hiccup and to show that a romance less than a week old is stronger and more important than a friendship of 6+ years.
I dare you to read this extremely in-depth review of THW and honestly consider all the evidence:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/19025251/chapters/45183655
There's no "slut shaming" the damn sparkle dragon, people are rightfully stating she only exists in that movie as an object for Toothless to win. Criticism against a fictional female character that was solely created by men to be a sex object for a male character to chase and own as a throphy wife is not "slut-shaming".
They don’t need to be telling about it in the back of a study hall for everyone to hear and to be fair these movies are literally made for children
