Deschamps' best decision this tournament was starting Wilo and Kylian literally forced his hand by going to the press to do that. Didier's such a fucking loser

“All alone with the memory, of my days in the sun”
Okay, so not all of us are big fans of Cats. But you can’t deny that its showstopper song, Memory, is one of the greatest female solos in musical theatre. It’s been covered by famous artists, including Barbra Streisand. So, here is an appreciation post dedicated to actresses who played Grizabella.
for the song recs, i was wondering if you could do my middle name—desmarrie? i’m mainly into pop music but i also love acoustic covers, if that counts 🖤
Of COURSE THAT COUNTS!!
D - Don’t Matter, Lauv (Akon cover)
E - Eastside, Bastille (Khalid cover)
S - Scared to be Lonely, Boyce Avenue (Martin Garrix cover)
M - Mad Wolrd, Jasmine Thompson (Tears for Fears cover)
A - Angeles, Jensen Ackles (Eliott Smith cover)
R - Rockabye, The Mayries (Clean Bandit cover)
R - Répondez-Moi, Chimene Badi (Francis Cabrel cover)
I - I’d Rather Go Blind, Dua Lipa (Etta James cover)
E - Everlong, Foo Fighters (acoustic)
yes i have a full acoustic covers playlist, don’t judge me 🤗
Last song I listened to: ma liberté, Chimene Badi's gospel arrangement, original by George Moustaki
Favorite song: Many, but if I have to choose just one, I would go with Mean, by Taylor Swift.
Last tv show I watched: The witcher
Last movie I watched: Pride and Prejudice (2005). Again.
Favorite musician: Taylor Swift, Little Mix's girls, Hans Zimmer and Ramin Djawadi.
Favorite OC: I once wrote a story about a piece of bread that talked and he used his ability to get people to move him around without eating him through the ages. He didn't have a name, because he was a piece of bread, but that's my favorite OC. A piece of bread. I won the school contest.
Sweet, spicy, or savory: savory.
Sparkling water, tea, or coffee: Sparkling water, by default, I don't like aither of those.
I tag @queen-of-salt-and-fury, @rainhadaenerys, @reviewpri, @latristereina everyone else who wants to. Feel free to ignore.
For Storyteller Saturday: do you have songs that you associate your characters? What songs, if so? What makes them associated?
HA - it’s like you KNOW ME in my SOUL. Of course, I have four billion songs for my OCs. Here are two I’ve listened to semi-recently, both for my Sarra/Ahni OTP
Amo, by Axel Fernando and
Entre Nous, by Chimene Badi
(they’re both pretty old but so am I 😁)
it’s a mix of the lyrics and music that creates the association? Like Amo talks abt a full, encompassing love of both the good & bad things, the big and small and mundane things, and that’s just something that I associate with this OTP ;)
After two interesting semi finals, there is a list of eight songs. Eight songs that are different from the next and you have to commend the French TV people for selecting such good songs as well as the audience who voted.
I missed the second semi final; but watched the first semi final all the way through. I don’t have a bias one way or the other, but here is what I think of each of the songs.
Bilal Hassani "Roi" When I first heard it, it reminded me of Conchita Wurst. That is not that I’m saying it is a copy in anyway. Bilal and his troupe of ladies perform in a cohesive way that makes the song come alive.
Chimène Badi "Là-haut" Sensational song from Chimene. Her performance had her standing in a lit up box and it makes you concentrate on her and little else. Strong voice which will be better for the final.
Silvàn Areg "Le petit Nicolas" This was fun. The staging was exceptionally clever and the upbeat harmony makes it stick in our head. It is more spoken than sung, but it’s a great song.
Aysat "Comme une grande" A unique voice that suits the song very well. I think vocally it wasn’t perfect, but it still suited the song. Nice.
Seemone "Tous les deux" A sombre performance from a lady who appeared like Adele, but performed in a very different way. A wonderful, controlled melancholic song and Seemone didn’t put a foot wrong anywhere here.
Emmanuel Moire "La promesse" This was like art and had the unexpected as well. Emmanuel could be the dark horse in this final. He presented enough to get through, but he may have more surprises in the bag.
The Divaz "La voix d'Aretha" Three strong women performing in unison and taking control. It has the essence of many three person girl groups but in French and there is a feeling of repeating.
Doutson "Sois un bon fils" I didnt think this would qualify on the performance. It seemed a bit messy and there was no sparkle to the performance. The kid deserves credit for making the performance interesting.
Conclusion:
Strong final with many very good songs. I don’t think the last two songs will be in the running at all. It should be out of the two songs that won the semi finals, but the second place songs are very strong as well. It will be out of these.
-So I had promised myself to post about Destination Eurovision this year. It’s the French show to select our tribute to the Eurovision Song Contest.
The final is next week, so you’ll have to read me throw a tantrum about our finalies.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS HAPPENING.
We eliminated Tracy De Sà “Por Aqui”, which was, in my opinion our best shot. It’s catchy, sung in french, english and spanish, the singer’s good looking. I’m shooketh. We did her dirty.
Same wtf with Gabriella’s “On Cherche Encore”. IT IS SO CATCHY. AND VIOLIN. I’m pissed.
Also, Florina ‘In The Shadow” was a solid entrie that got ignored like wtf.
(I like Battista Aquaviva generally speaking, but her song was no convincing enough)
NOW
About the ones that go to final.
1- My fav so far is Aysat “Comme Une Grande”. I love her rough voice, the rythme is great, and the performance is strong and dancy. Also, feminism. I don’t know how she can do on ESC, but I still support her like hell. (HELL)
2- Second comes Chimene Badi’s ‘Là-haut”. I’m not bonkers about the song (it’s okay, but nothing special), but Chimene’s a solid performer, her voice kicks ass. She’s the epitome of frenchness. It’s a logical, careful choice.
3- “La Voix d’Aretha”, The Divaz. Catchy. Good subject. Awesome harmonics. Beautiful women. Divas tend to have it dirty on the ESC, though, so I’m not so sure, but you go girls.
4- Emmanuel Moire ‘La Promesse’. To be honest, the song isn’t that good, but I just have a lot of affection for the singer. I’m not objective. Plus side: LGBT rpz. Also, juste like Chimene Badi, he’s a solid performer, and has his voice under control.
5- Bilal, “Roi”. I strongly don’t care about him nor his song. It looks like any other good but blend song. Nothing special. But he seems to be super popular, so that’s that.
6- Seemone ‘Tous les deux”. I - DON’T - LIKE - THAT - SONG. Bim, said it. It’s far from bad, and I love her voice, but... I don’t know, not my style. Reminds me of Lithuania last year (who did great on final). People seem to love her sensibility, we’ll see what comes.
7 - Douston “Soit un bon fils.” I’m not a fan, but the guy reminds me of Jessie Matador (France 2010), and I love Jessie.
8- Silvan Areg “Le Petit Nicolas” - Non.
So that’s it.
We’re doomed for this year’s ESC, but heh, I never supporte France anyway.
Wait for next week, when I’ll surely post a “AAAAAAAAAARGH” reaction post to our winner (Bilal, I guess.)
