Kisekae Insights #21: Fifi and Roary addendum

Hey everyone. In case you haven’t read already, I have a full-time job now, so I don’t know if I’ll be as prolific in making content than in the past. However, I am still determined to cover Gokaiger, Decade and Soulbound eventually, so I aim to make two instalments of Kisekae Insights per month. When we get to those instalments, they will most likely be split up into multiple parts, so I might be releasing more than two instalments in a month. I started this series as a result of the coronavirus lockdown – even with further lockdowns resulting in me having to work from home, I don’t know if I can be as prolific as I have been last year, given that I need to be in work mode for five days a week and that I still have my personal project to finish off. Nevertheless, I will continue to do my best and I hope you will continue to support me as always.

The main purpose of this instalment is to set the record straight on voice actors for Fifi and the Flowertots and Roary the Racing Car like I did with Angelina Ballerina a few instalments ago. Unlike Angelina Ballerina, however, this list was easy to determine because the cast is (largely) the same in both the UK and US versions. My original plan for this was to update the original instalment with this new information, but then I decided that it would be better to release it as a filler instalment.

Big Chris was absent in the Roary tribute episodes in Gokaiger and Decade and as such, Kerry Shale was credited as Tin Top’s voice. The reason is because Peter Kay had cancelled his tour and all his other work in November 2017 due to “unforeseen family circumstances”. I thought it was going to be permanent, but given how he seemingly started to come back to the limelight a few months after, I ended up giving him a cameo in the final episode of Gokaiger before giving him a full appearance in the Roary tribute episode in Soulbound Series 3 (October 2019).

Fifi and Roary are somewhat obscure series; the fact that they used to have websites was enough for them not to fall into even deeper obscurity. A decade ago, not very many episodes were uploaded onto YouTube, but now, the two shows have official channels and episodes keep being reuploaded daily with no indication of episode numbers. Trying to attain an accurate episode list has been a nightmare, though it can be said that at least 104 episodes were made for both series between 2005 and 2008 (assuming each series took about a year to produce).

In regards to Fifi, I find it interesting that it got a third series, but it was only 13 episodes long. Buttercup, Daisy and Flutterby were new characters in the series and I think they deserved more screentime, but hey, the fact that I’ve done this project means that I’ve fulfilled that wish already (hypothetically speaking).

So what happened to the production company, Chapman Entertainment? After creating Little Charley Bear and Raa Raa the Noisy Lion, Chapman was placed into administration in November 2012 and acquired by DreamWorks Animation in September 2013. Founder Keith Chapman, who created Bob the Builder in 1998, would go on to create PAW Patrol and Mighty Express. At this point, Fifi and Roary are obscure enough that I could say I own the rights to both series and nobody would care. In fact, I like to pretend that I do, like this project isn’t full of copyright infringements already.

At this point, both the official websites for Fifi and Roary have been discontinued and are now essentially impossible to access via archives due to the discontinuation of Adobe Flash. Low-quality wiki information seems to be all that remains now, but hilariously, the wiki for Fifi and the Flowertots seems to be no more.

I’m always appreciative of the few fans who like my posts or even reach out to me on things relating to obscure shows or content, whether it be Fifi and the Flowertots, Sea Princesses or anything else. As I have stated before, content for these shows is hard to come by and as such, people like me have had to step up and be the change we want to see in the world. For example, if I didn’t take the plunge last year during lockdown, I wouldn’t have been able to translate and review the Sea Princesses book series.

Anyway, that’s it for now. I’ll move onto something new in the next instalment.

あの子供たちちょううかわいいだったよね!三匹は茶色の羽がある、二匹の黄色のが、一匹のが黒だった。どんどん日々に仲良くしたんだ、みんなはかわいい名前を決ったんだ:名はイーイー、ラウレット、ディーディー、シシ、シルキー、そしてフィーフィーだった。

What's in Dollias bag?

Oooo this was cool to think about!! You know how much I love polyvores so this was very exciting to make!

(Read tws in tags before proceeding)

Bag: Due to not having functioning arms, Dollia prefers backpacks and string bags. They're typically pink with some kinda grungy pattern. Oh, and they're also always covered in random patches CiCi and FiFi buy for her.

Pocket 1: Dollia pretty much always tags along with the twins, so most of her bag is dedicated to carrying their stuff. Weapons, restraints, snacks, whatever the little devils need, she has!

Pocket 2: Shiny garbage!! Dollia absolutely loves collecting shiny little things. She usually just displays them around her room, either on shelves or by pinning them on the wall. You can usually catch her with at least one bit of cool junk in her bag.

Pocket 3: Her adult pocket. Mainly has cigarettes, "candy", and little notes of positive affirmation Marietta writes for her. Rest assured, she always has it locked up so the twins can't get into it. She's a responsible violent bruiser after all!

Something I thought I'd clear any confusion on; almost no undead can have children of their own. Most can have intercourse (assuming everything downstairs isn't irreparably damaged), and thus can hypothetically get others pregnant. However, the latter basically never happens due to conflicting physiologies, for it is extremely rare for any two undead to have remotely similar anatomy. The only exceptions to this are Curse Undead, whose DNA is the least distorted by death, and are therefore more compatible with other undead's genetics.

TLDR: A Curse Undead can be impregnated by any type of undead (other Curse Undead included), but Necromance and Resurrect Undead cannot be impregnated

Reanimated couples looking to have children usually either create their own Necromance Undead/magical spawn to look after, or, more commonly, adopt undead children* that have nowhere to go.

You mentioned in the server that Dollia doesn't like creepy things can you expand on that?

Oh gladly! I meant that she greatly dislikes traditionally scary things. Y'know, bugs, skeletons, the sight of her own mutilated husk, extreme gore, the usual! I know that's a bit strange to hear since she works for Marietta of all people, but I imagine she's not actually present for the really extreme torture/punishments her boss and the twins commit. Her job predominantly boils down to protecting CiCi and FiFi, and occasionally beating the occasional unloyal follower.

Cici and Fifi for the education muse ask! I know young pop idols are often taken out of school but I'm interested in that period of their lives and what skills they've picked up since then

Ooo das a good question!!! They probably would have been taken out of school and tutored as humans. CiCi likely wasn't a very good student, because she'd find schoolwork extremely boring and pointless. FiFi on the other hand was probably a great student. She knows when to be quiet and listen, and she was probably quite profecient in reading and writing especially.

Their education would have halted at a 9th-grade level after being turned. Their manager didn't care enough to have them continue on after, and it wasn't a top priority for them after escaping.

When they ended up with Marietta, they both had to compromise on the education thing. CiCi was interested in learning how to do better at their new jobs as enforcers, while FiFi wanted to continue on with a normal education. Nowadays, they both receive tutoring sessions that combine regular academic subjects with lessons on torture. (Ei; arithmetic involving blood loss and measuring poisons, history involving various torture implements, regular biology, etc.)

Ok I know this is only like, a few days between the last redesign, but I ended up getting a little spark of inspiration and decided to do CiCi and FiFi's redesigns next!! I do still really like their old designs, but I thought it would be more fun to include little aspects of their own personalities. Still, I think I may keep the old one around as what their outfits were like when they were still alive and performing.

Regardless, hope y'all like it!! I'm actually thinking I can finish all the secondary characters soon!

Some more minor characters, this time some evil gals!! They're not exactly major antagonists, but they're still important to the storyline. I'll get to making Toyhouse bios for my mates some day, I swear. In the mean time, I'm more than happy to share designs and give you the basic rundown!

Marietta, The Tacky Queen of Bloodlust- A doll-based necromance undead who inhabits and basically rules over Stepfellow Lane, a suburban neighborhood that was abandoned many decades ago. Her past is a mystery to most, though her surge in influence began about 10 years ago. Of all the undead in Downtown Pythonel, Marietta is one of the most feared, and for good reason. Calculating, sadistic, and dauntingly powerful, she has spent years "adopting" the undead of Pythonel with no home or family and building up her own mini-territory. Her goal is pretty simple, seize Goldberg District from Daniel, maybe kill him, and kill anyone that gets in the way. Her reason for wanting this is surprisingly sweet however; she wants to turn it into a home for her newfound family and make Pythonel a more accepting place. Though one must question if her love of violence will consume any good intent she has.

CiCi and FiFi, The Burnt Bubblegum Stars- A once a famous popstar duo turned necromance undead by their unhinged manager, who just couldn't let the hype around them die. After said manager lost his life in an "accident", the twin idols disappeared for a while only to re-emerge as members of Marietta's family. CiCi and FiFi act as Marietta's right and left hand girls, delivering her orders to their "siblings" and ensuring their adoptive mother's plans go accordingly. While they do their duties well, they're both extremely bratty and unlikeable. CiCi is a peppy airhead who throws violent tantrums of she doesn't get what she wants. She's also horribly stubborn and known for being extremely uncooperative with others. FiFi is often perceived as more reasonable than her sister, but this is actually incorrect. FiFi is just more talented at keeping her composure and manipulating others. She may not throw fits, but she knows how to make people who don't give her what she wants pay.

Dollia, The Shattered Atronach- A stoic resurrect undead who suddenly came to life during a gallery opening, destroying many pieces and killing approximately 20 people. Many initially believed a spirit possessed a statue and used it as a puppet to commit the act, however the persistent stench of rot that comes from Dollia proves otherwise. It's not known exactly how she came to join Marietta's family, though some speculate she was invited to join some time after the incident at the Constricto Art Museum. Whatever the circumstances, she now works as a bodyguard for CiCi and FiFi whenever they have to leave Stepfellow Lane. They treat her more as a walking toy rather than a protector, but she doesn't mind. She doesn't typically interfere in affairs unless the twins start a fight (where she will obviously side with them), or if someone attempts to hurt them. Let's just say if that happens, that someone might have to be pressure washed off her limbs.
