My kind of Sunday “mess”. I haven’t made pan de sal (an enriched Filipino bun) in a very long time. Kitchen care tips: . Your kitchen is a hotspot for heat and moisture so extra care needs to be taken to maintain the life of your kitchen: • always ensure water is not left around your sink, if so make sure this is wiped down to avoid damage to your work top or going down onto the unit doors. • if you so spill anything on the doors, wipe the front, back and under the door as that's where water sits. • always wait for your dishwasher to cool after it has completed before opening or emptying the dishwasher. • Never place any items that generate heat or steam such as kettles, toasters, coffee machines or air fryers directly under your wall units as the heat/steam will cause the doors above to melt or distort. Small appliances such as this should ideally be used away from any wall units or positioned well forward of any units above. • Never allow your oven to cool with the door open as this will cause any adjacent doors or panels to melt or deteriorate. • Never bake or grill with the appliance door open. • When using your hob please ensure that the extractor fan is switched on at all times to allow the steam and heat to be vented out of the room. • If you are using glass cleaner on glazed units, please ensure that the cleaner only comes into contact with the glass as the chemicals within the cleaning product could harm the finish on the door. Caring for your Kitchen . The showpieces in your kitchen are your doors and accessories and whether you have chosen a painted, vinyl, acrylic or MFC finished door it is critical that these are looked after to ensure their finish and longevity. Different door finishes require different care and cleaning methods. VACATION MODE ON, “KALAT” MODE ON

It’s a season for church visits, beaches, picnics on parks and so forth. Millenials captions this as #VacationModeOn. While all of these are very exciting, our responsibilities as citizens for the environment are often forgotten. Vacation mode maybe on but our responsibilities should not be turned off.  

While scrolling on Facebook today, I found two photos that broke my heart. One was a photo of garbage here and there around the seashore while the other was another set of garbage littered in front of a church. It breaks my heart to see how irresponsible people are when it comes to cleaning up their own garbage. We love clean air, land and sea but most often, we leave them littered with our own garbage.

Is it really difficult to be responsible tourists or visitors? I bet not. However, we do not want to rid ourselves of fun so we’d rather leave our garbage behind and move forward with the next thrilling activity. Unfortunately, we forget that our environment is part of our lifeline. There are many ways you can enjoy your vacation while saving your environment. Here are some practical ways:

Bring your own garbage bag. It doesn’t have to be that big black bag or green bag. You can simply bring those large grocery bags or paper bags from the supermarket. A garbage bag should be listed in your “to bring” checklist.

Always keep in mind the phrase “CLEAN AS YOU GO” wherever you go. Announce to your family or friends this rule during your trip. Influence them the need to care for the environment by taking a step that can make a difference.

Teach your kids ahead of time to put any garbage on a bin. This means you have to be a good example for them. Of course, they need to be told about this.

NEVER EVER LEAVE your area dirty. A small hint of trash may be followed by a bigger one. The next few people who will use your area may think that leaving their trash behind is “okay” because the people before them left a trash themselves.

Stop strangers who litters around and tell them politely to dispose their trash properly. Most probably, these people will justify that there are cleaners around. Do not be swayed by this reason. Let them know that as disciplined human beings, we should be responsible for our own trash. The responsibility of the cleaners is to maintain the area clean but not to clean up the mess of others.  The one who used or ate it, should be the one to clean it up properly.

Be a responsible person. There is no need to list the effects of a small garbage to the environment since ton of articles are written about that. If you still don’t get the harmful effects of your garbage thrown around then I suggest, go and read all of them.

Experiencing a clean and unpolluted environment greatly depends in our course of action. We are responsible for every trash we see around. Stop thinking that it is the responsibility of the local government, too. They were only figuring out the solution to the pollution problem that the citizens created. They cannot solve it if we ourselves will keep disposing our garbage everywhere.

The mindset that “others were doing it so might as well do it” is so old fashion, insane and nuts. Not because you have seen a piece of candy wrapper on the road, you would also throw your chips wrapper or soda can on the same spot.

Always remind yourself and others of this, “Hindi isang malaking basurahan ang daanan”. Trash bins in a form of large cans and bags are around. No matter how far the walk is, endure it to save your environment. Be a hero of mother earth by taking simple acts of cleanliness that may influence others. Let’s challenge each other that while “Vacation Mode is ON, “Kalat” Mode should be OFF”.
