Goretober! The prompt was X-ray, so I went with a cleared-and-stained salamander-ish merthing. I don’t know what it is, all I know is it was fun as fuck to draw.
Originally it was gonna be an ithyocentaur, but I have no clue how to draw horses, so it turned into a salamander thing. I have no idea how to draw pelvises, either, as you can probably guess.
Forgot to turn the second image, whoops.

wild to me to see posts like "wow everything in the tempest is named after shakespeare...emet you melodramatic bitch you sure loved theater". because the prospero-emet thing gets played up so hard in the english script and you can carry it so far!
like prospero is an asshole magician who, after being deposed by his brother as duke of milan, settles himself and his daughter on a remote island, enslaves the local spirits using his magic, and bitterly plots to reclaim his past glories. he rules through violence and deceit, and only survives and is reconciled when his plots reach their fruition and his brother is taken to his remote island and plots ensue and everyone decides he was totally right all along and they were huge dicks to him and they're sooooo sorry and he gets to go back and be duke again wow! and it's okay because he's like "i was only doing mean magic to get my rightful spot back and now i'm giving it up because magic is evil. :)"
the tempest is what emet wants his life to be. prospero is not a villain in the text of the tempest. he is barely treated as antagonistic by the text and framing of the play itself. all his abuses, his neglect and control of his daughter, his enslavement of caliban and ariel (local spirits/monsters/people of the island), his deception and plots against his brother, his abuse of magical powers (not awesome, from the pov of the contemporary audience), all that ultimately gets swept aside in the rightness of his return to milan and the warm feeling of the world being set to rights. prospero can't undo the years he spent on the island but they are ultimately a blip in his life before he returns to the rightful state of affairs. his abuse and enslavement of caliban, easily the worst thing he does in the play, is totally set aside when caliban goes "wow now i see how truly benevolent my master is. i love him and see the ways of christian good and i'm so, so appreciative he chose not to kill or beat me even though he totally could have and would have been in the right. he's so just and intelligent." everyone loves and forgives him and they all agree both his management of the island and his ultimate return are so good and so wise and so right.
emet comparing himself to the tempest (or being compared to it, depending on how you want to read the diegetic status of the place names) is absolute wishcasting. it is an attempt to manifest the happy ending he will never, ever get because his sins cannot and would not be forgiven in the way he wants. he wants to imagine himself as the righteous returned duke whose crimes, including the enslavement, abuse, and exploitation of those he saw as his rightful inferiors, were totally worth it, i promise. and if emet is prospero, the warrior of light is his caliban.

i think the funniest thing about me as a person is that i'm often a nervous wreck and terrified of trying new things or screwing up, but my disrespect for authority is so strong that the second someone tries to suggest that i can't do something because they won't let me or don't believe i'm capable of it, it completely overwrites my anxiety and makes me determined to prove them wrong right then and there. unfortunately combined with my general impulsiveness and impatience this used to make me very easy to manipulate if you understood this about me as well as leading me to take some really stupidly dangerous risks (until i started working on my self awareness and critical thinking), but it did also lead to several very funny moments in my life where someone misplaced a lot of confidence in my inability to fight back and got their shit rocked when i stepped up and called their bluff.

This scene is somewhat familiar if you've seen the '98 anime, but here it's also harkening back to an earlier manga scene with Wolfwood:
Tumblr media
Moreover, the character Legato threatens to strong-arm Vash into killing him is not Meryl, but Wolfwood's friend Livio. Wolfwood always presented something of a realist middle path compared to Vash and Knives. Violence is wrong, but sometimes necessary to protect yourself, or to protect others. He cynically suggested that one day, Vash would encounter a situation where he couldn't resolve things peacefully, and would have to choose between murder and letting someone die. Up until his death, Vash proved him wrong. But now we're here, and the scene is as much about Wolfwood's philosophy as it is about Vash's.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, Vash can't let Livio die. Again, similar to the anime, except that Vash sees a vision of Wolfwood that prompts him to shoot. I get the feeling that "I couldn't bear to let that go to waste" is about more than Livio's life.
When Wolfwood was on death's door, he chose to sacrifice himself to save Livio. Now that Vash is on death's door, he chooses to dirty his hands to save Livio.

Zero Mission: Slight detour toward the end, but Samus is doing well.
Prime: Momentary bittersweetness, but Samus is doing well.
Echoes: Despite everything, the day was saved. Samus is doing well.
Corruption: The day was saved, but at a cost. Samus is... alive.
Return Of Samus: An ugly, yet hopefully necessary task, offset by a small ray of hope at the end. Samus is not doing well.
Super: That hope was delivered... and then immediately stolen, warped and mutated, and then killed. The last Metroid is dead. The galaxy is (not?) at peace. Samus is not doing well.
Fusion: Actions have consequences, and the consequences for extinction have shown themselves. Samus has lost nearly everything familiar and comfortable, with only the ghost of an old friend found instead. Samus is not doing well.
Dread: New bullshit after new bullshit, piled higher and higher and higher. Samus is not doing well, but that doesn't matter, because Samus is fucking done.

All the tour groups in Springfield should be very proud of me for how well I refrained from sharing all my fascinating Lincoln facts.
#there were so many school groups!#a giant one came in RIGHT AFTER i entered lincoln's cabinet room#part of me was screaming 'children i NEED to tell you about all these idiots and their insane drama!'#a smarter part of me understood that would be super weird#so instead i regaled different individuals of my own traveling party after we had the room to ourselves#then at lincoln's tomb we lucked out in getting there during the ten minutes of the day when school groups weren't there#which meant we got a personal tour from a guide who seemed thrilled to have grown-ups to talk to#he and my dad chatted about fishing for a long while in the entry#it didn't feel disrespectful because it totally felt like the kind of conversation lincoln would have understood and joined in on#and then we went on our way but the guide then chased us down to share all the fascinating lincoln stories as we went along#(shout-out to lefty you were great)#and then a school group found us so we made a graceful exit#but outside a teacher was explaining to a different group about how robert was significant in his own right so he's buried at arlington#and the RESTRAINT i showed in not immediately informing them that he was present at three presidential assassinations! it was rather heroic#and then when we toured lincoln's house the guide (who accidentally made it clear he was a revolutionary war buff)#(which made it a bit hilarious he was stuck with lincoln)#asked for questions before we started and someone asked about lincoln's 1860 election campaign!#aka one of my SPECIAL NICHE AREAS OF OBSESSION!#you cannot imagine how desperately i wanted to tell him ALL ABOUT seward and thurlow weed#anyway it was fun to go back now that i actually know stuff about lincoln#but it was also a bit frustrating because now i know how much they leave out#(though there was cool new info and artifacts)#(the blood-stained piece of laura keene's dress was very morbid and very cool)#also it reminded me that i still have that book on the 1860 election i've yet to read and the hype is so real#presidential talk

i love it when people put stickers on their ds and it looks so cute... i can never because i have sticker anxiety (afraid it might look wrong and i try to peel it but the sticker is wasted now i cant put it back and oh no this is a gift from your aunt overseas you wasted it forever now she's never gonna buy you cute stickers anymore that you never put on anything)
I totally feel the same way! I get worried because I'm a bit of a collector and I wanna keep it in "mint condition" (Even though I use my DS's regularly and they are covered in scratches...)
So, it makes me cringe a bit when I see stickers on a DS, because I get sad about the fact that it's no longer "pure" or whatever. On the other hand, I've seen DS's in wayyy worse states... so maybe I need to get over myself LOL
Either way a well loved DS's >>>>>> mint condition ones IMO. What's the point in owning it if you aren't going to use it!
