An analysis of “What The Hell Are We Dying For?” By Shawn Mendes
The following is an analysis from my good friend on twitter named Sam regarding this song.
I'd like to talk about this and I'm not sure how to without doing a whole existential rant (which i don't want directed at any individual and moot is on private so i covered out of respect) bc this is not the only post like this I've seen.
Tumblr media
first, you're not exactly wrong but its more complicated than that. i do believe this song was written when he said it was, that actually makes it more impactful. Shawn is in New York recording his next album right now. his country, his home, is on fire and the evidence is billowing down in the form of an orange smoke that's polluting the air he's breathing. these fires are unusual, out of season and the majority are out of control, and this will have massive negative affects on the canadian climate for a long time even after the fires are gone. I don’t know if you've noticed, but the world is kinda dying. mega corporations have done a lot of irreparable damage to the environment and are refusing to take accountability for the damage that IS repairable. the likelihood of any government standing up to these corps and forcing climate reparation is increasingly low due to corruption and while there are some wonderful organizations doing incredible work there's no guarantee it will be enough to counteract the ongoing destruction. it all feels a bit… hopeless. so that's literally happening and it also feels very metaphorical for what's happening to the world, to society, right now especially for queer individuals. it's pride month. our rights are under attack which affects the community as a whole but also can feel like a direct personal crisis. it's got a lot of people scared and looking for their best option for surviving. we're kind of suffocating in hate right now. and that can have impact on our relationships. can make us doubt if its worth it worry that the love we have for each other won't be enough to stop the wave of hate we've been seeing build over the past couple of years. i believe the message in Shawn's song is a bit nihilistic in that he's almost accepting that we will probably lose but also willing to go out sticking to the moral and philosophy of love. choosing his person. choosing to be queer even in the face of potentially fatal hatred. he doesn't want to lose that before losing the bigger fight because that would feel worse than dying. he doesn't want to sink into the closet just to survive in a world where he can never be fully himself, fully happy. just to survive in a world that's slowly dying itself. bc what is the point of that? survival ≠ living. the fact that it was written this month and the feeling is so raw and fresh is something that makes this song hit as hard as it does, in my opinion. i think that 'hopeless but determined and proud' emotion is something a lot of people need help finding because as a community we've always kind of had to have that kind of philosophy of life to be openly queer in a hostile world. it's the bravest thing in the world to choose authenticity and love in the face of the kinds of hate and violence we've always been met with. its the most beautiful thing in the world to choose to make the most of the life we do have for as long as we have it.

Are you disgusted at corporations and oil companies doing nothing about climate change? Are you worried that fossil fuels will be the death of our planet if we don't take action soon?
Joe Biden and Senate Democrats passed a bill with $369B allocated for reducing carbon emissions, and it's being paid for by high corporate taxes and taxing the 1%.
Unfortunately, Republicans are spending billions of dollars on campaigns these midterms to try and take over the Senate. Please, make a plan to get out and vote for Democrats this very important election, and remind 3 friends to vote as well!

The lower house of the Indian parliament Monday passed a bill establishing a central scheme for the purchase and sale of carbon credits. The bill also promotes clean energy by obligating certain large consumers of electricity to use renewable energy and conserve energy.
The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Act seeks to amend the two-decade-old Energy Conservation Act and introduce a carbon credit trading scheme. A carbon credit is a permit that allows the holder the “right” to emit one ton of carbon dioxide or the equivalent amount of another greenhouse gas (GHG) by offsetting it against the reduction of equivalent emissions. The emission reductions may either be “certified” and sold through a third-party regulator, such as the Clean Development Mechanism by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), or “voluntary” and exchanged between buyers and sellers directly.
Under the carbon credit trading scheme proposed in the bill, registered entities will be issued carbon credit certificates which they can sell to other entities or individuals. The scheme incorporates the offset markets in energy efficiency and renewable energy that currently operate in India. While India has previously engaged in the global carbon credit market—with the city of Indore exporting UNFCCC-approved carbon credits for about $62,000 in 2020—the carbon credit certificates proposed in the bill can only be issued by the Indian government or agencies it authorizes. The Power Minister also reportedly stated the scheme would be wholly domestic. Source jurist.org

The MG4 interior review: Bjorn's mistake - setting the record straight
siasek
Discover the proper way to adjust your MG4's climate control using the steering wheel buttons. We look at the mistake that @bjornnyland  makes in his MG4 interior review and correct the misunderstanding in his video. Link to: The MG4 Electric Car: Revealing its Hidden Advantages and Features https://youtu.be/ruunrw6Ataw
P.S.Compared to legacy automakers, MG4 is head and shoulders above the old companies in all essential technical parameters: first of all, a much more affordable price, decent driving distance, good charging speed, fairly good capacity and ride quality. In any case, MG (SAIC) has created a very good electric car platform to work with and make further improvements

Unfortunately, there are dangers associated with stratospheric aerosol injection. This approach may reduce rainfall in some areas of the world. Loss of crops and access to fresh water due to reduced rainfall could lead to starvation and suffering. If this approach were used, it would be important to develop and implement measures to protect people and save lives and livelihoods....instead human lives being sacrificed for greed

The winners of the annual eVolo Skyscraper Competition have been announced. Featuring a climate-controlling tower and tsunami-resistant high-rises, plus a food producing tower, it offers a look at architectural design unconstrained by practicalities. For those unfamiliar with the contest, the eVolo Skyscraper Competition is less concerned with plans for towers that could ever actually be built and instead focuses on highlighting interesting ideas. There's no official overriding theme to join them all together, however climate change looms large this year, plus there are a few designs influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic too. "eVolo Magazine is pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 Skyscraper Competition," said eVolo. "The Jury selected three winners and 20 honorable mentions from 427 projects received. The annual award established in 2006 recognizes visionary ideas that through the novel use of technology, materials, programs, aesthetics, and spatial organizations, challenge the way we understand vertical architecture and its relationship with the natural and built environments."

Show Your Stripes
Tumblr media
It's #ShowYourStripes day!
Created by Ed Hawkins, the warming stripes are "visual representations of the change in temperature as measured in each country over the past 100+ years. Each stripe or bar represents the temperature in that country averaged over a year. For most countries, the stripes start in the year 1901 and finish in 2021."
One of the best ways to fight climate change is to talk about it, and these stripes are clearly great conversation starters. If not today, then when?
Check your own country and cry. Then show it to the world, so they can cry too.
