he is an absolute hopeless romantic and loves orchids bc he believes in true love (as witnessed between his parents) but "believes that he is fated to die without love" — and then there's tessa: waiting for him after all this time, wearing his necklace, never having taken it off in the time they've been apart and finally this scene in after the bridge:
