i have been writing a lot of little things to myself lately relating to idea of The Home in homestuck (completely untapped idea, i know) but specifically with home as a a symbol for repression and control etc etc just as much as it functions as one of self discovery and actualization. i feel like i usually end up dropping things i write that talk about trauma too personally, but i think that limitation has been getting in my way with things i am trying to articulate to myself, so. fuck it.

anyways that was my disclaimer because im talking about child abuse. in the abstract especially in relation to stories about teenagers/coming of age, the idea of home and family are basically one in the same, right, and the house is the "physical" manifestation of this idea, the shell and the things which reside inside it that are all functioning in tandem with varying degrees of control over eachother. the romanticized idea of a home depicted in storytelling is not the randomized place you are born but the theoretical concept of a place that you find which fulfills you. which is fine, it serves its function in certain stories. but the conflation of what is the home and what is the ideal kind of leaves people unable to crawl out of their situations somewhere nebulous and uncomfortable. theyre uh. theyre h. theyre homestu.

ANYWAYS. the idea of a home under that definition implies the idea of a healthy dynamic within itself but unfortunately in the real world some of us are vulnerable clownthings living under the roof of a time demon who hates everything. this is often hard to catch in real life because the house, the home, the family, is there to project an image of normalcy, or at least to obscurify its own inner machinations. you dont get to know the Why of a lot of actions when you dont know what is going on when you arent around. this is not only a consquence of the obfuscation but also a function of it. if you cant understand something it is easiest to cast doubt and its easy to cast blame and it is so, so much harder to pinpoint the real danger. the scapegoat gets blamed for all that they do that feels like nonsensical acts of malice. and all the while the real threat is lost beneath the layers of confusion, the clown is thrown away never to be worried over again because of its crimes and the reality that they always would be is exactly why they can never not be a part of that cycle of bringing the time demon to power.
