The world lost a hero and an angel this week. Mary Slowik was the founder of @gothamcritters and dedicated her life to caring for the innocent lives that few others noticed on the streets of NY. Every single day, all year long, every year, Mary would be out feeding the colony cats. She did not take Christmas vacation, or any other holiday. She was there no matter what for those many lives that counted on her. If an animal was sick, she would trap it and take it to the vet. She constantly faced trials and tribulations with this work, but she never gave up. We will remember you always Mary. You made this world better. Our gratitude can never repay you for what you have done, but we will carry-on what you have started, and continue to make the world a better place. My sweet boy fernidand was horribly injured when I went to feed tonight. I was thankfully able to get him in a carrier with the help of my dear friend @queenbeach75 I’m on my way to the ER vet now!! Hoping it’s not worse than it looks.. I Have a foster for 2 weeks, then he will go to another foster for a couple days then fly North with the incredible @darbsterkitty on the 7th of this month. She(?) is terribly skinny, can't be older than 4 weeks, and will require feedings around the clock to get her weight up ASAP. We'll start treating her eyes with an antibiotic ointment and keep observing. Haven't had a chance to investigate the area yet or look for others. As much as we really, really need a break, these situations are critical. So with a heavy sigh, we begin again. I left the property that they come by to greet me. Yesterday they used the driveway holy good God. The same driveway that huge trucks and employees racing to the time clock use.
