ive seen the first image here (dick’s “I crave your touch with every fiber of my being” line) posted on dickbabs blogs but never the follow up which is also why i can never get into reblogging those posts because the follow up puts it in pretty important context, which is its during devin grayson’s nightwing run where dick is being portrayed as an (OOCly) flighty boyfriend who is stuck in his own head and extremely insensitive and oblivious to other’s feelings
also should be noted: devin grayson is NOT the only nightwing writer to portray babs as inexplicably viewing her disability as a hindrance to her and dick hooking up (Just the only one for whom it is justified, since this dick is being insensitive). dixon also had babs say like ‘we can’t be together... you know why’ *wink wink* at her chair in his nightwing run but NOT the birds of prey run, leading me to just think that there must have been a co-creator in birds of prey making it better
however grayson’s babs is still OOCly jealous and insecure, just like her dick is OOCly flighty, dependent on others approval, self-centered, and incompetent
id udner cut
[image: a series of comic panels from nightwing (1996) #85 showing dick grayson (nightwing, outside in the rain) talking to barbara gordon (insie in her bed under a sheet but wearing no shirt. babs looks tired.
BABS: Sounds right up your alley. have fun.
DICK: Oh, hey babs?
BABS: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You love me. heard it before, hunk wonder. can I go back to sleep now?
DICK: Actually, I was gonna say I crave your touch with every fiber of my being.
dick leaps down towards the street. babs looks unconvinced.
BABS: You were gonna say that? DICK: I was.
BABS: Even remembering that I can't walk and everything, right? I mean, you're not just day-dreaming about the good ol' batgirl days?
DICK: Oh, but you were so hot with that big yellow bat on your chest...
BABS (annoyed): Good night, dick.
DICK (oblivious): I gotta sign off now, babs. sweet dreams.

Joker and Robin
Alright, I promised this post.
So, the other day I was reading Robin: Year One, and I got to this panel with Joker in jail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it startled me a bit because I got this very vivid flashback (flash forward?) to Robin II, Joker’s Wild.
Tumblr media
This is almost identical concepts for panels except one is Dick and one is Tim. And well, it got me thinking... Joker really IS obsessed with Robin as much as he is obsessed with Batman. And - I mean, fuck, he doesn’t even hate Batman - he fucking HATES Robin.
Tumblr media
[Gotham Knights 73]
I - woah. Okay. Really FUCKING hates them.
Tumblr media
I can’t help thinking of Joker’s first interaction with Jason ever (though this is ginger Jason) in Batman 366. He’s... super not amused to see Batman with a new kid.
And then... you know...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Murder Thing.
Actually, Under the Hood is interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joker... kinda likes Jason, after he comes back from the dead. He's amused. He’s got this... weird fucked up family angle he’s needling Jay with. It’s almost like he thinks Jason connects him and Batman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Until Jason calls him on his bullshit, of course.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Batman and Robin 14]
The exception to this utter hatred seems to be Damian? Whom Joker seems to view as being more like Bruce than the others... or maybe it’s like the thing with Jason post-resurrection, Damian’s not exactly a moral compass for Bruce like Dick, Tim, or (pre-death, sometimes) Jason.
And, of course, Earth Prime has had their own take on this, delving pretty deep into the concept.
Tumblr media
[Nightwing 16]
Joker establishes that he hates Dick the most. Death of the Family establishes that Joker thinks Dick makes “his” Batman weak with all his love and friendship and stuff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Redhood and the Outlaws 15]
Welp, there’s that “family” angle again.
I don’t really know if it’s even worth it getting into Joker’s take in the New52 version of Tim, it’s really no where near comparable to his New Earth version, and I’m not sure what take away there is for Joker calling Tim “boring” in this universe other than it’s the writers calling Tim boring. Skip!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joker informs Damian that he and the rest of Bruce’s kids are a burden on Batman, that they “block out the light” he and Batman shine on each other. It’s an interesting take on Joker’s obsession with Batman.
Tumblr media
And, finally, in the White Knight universe, they go out an say that Joker was jealous of Jason for being “closer to Batman” than he was.
....Yeah, that’s, that’s all I have to say on the matter. That’s just, like, a thing, I guess.
EDIT:
So, I didn’t really talk about Joker’s relationship to Tim very much when I wrote this. I knew he really, really hated Tim, but I didn’t have a comic handy that demonstrated that beyond their first meeting. In the interim, I found Robin 85.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joker is critical of Dick’s initial presence, and confirms he’s always wanted Dick dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s established, again, to LIKE Jason. Not just in personality, but as a second opportunity to kill Robin like he’s always wanted, but never got the chance to with Dick.
Tumblr media
However, Joker also indicates that he missed having Robin around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he still wasn’t happy to have Tim show up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What Joker seems to hate most about Tim, is that Tim tends to work alone more often than the other Robins. This means when Joker starts a scheme to get Batman’s attention, sometimes Robin showed up, and only Robin. You can also see than Joker views Tim as the brainy Robin (though logically, all the Robins are smart in different ways - Tim himself just seems to recognize patterns the quickest, and is perhaps the most persistent in following small leads).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We later see in Joker’s Last Laugh that he is so very pissed off when he is NOT the one to “kill” Tim (it’s a misunderstanding, don’t worry about it).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this stage, Joker seems to view the Robins as further methods to hurt Bruce. When he can’t be the one to kill Tim, he at least wants his body to show off. Then, when Nightwing shows up before Bruce, pissed and ready to kill a bitch, Joker decides that’s a better torture for Bruce than pushing Bruce himself past his code.

Hiii, do you have any recs for Robin Jason comics? I'd love to read more about him but I have no clue where to start. Love your art btw it's all adorable <3
Sure thing!!! And omg thank you 🥺🥺 your art is super cute too!!
If I were to rec One Thing as a starting point for Robin Jason, Batman #408-#429 covers Jason’s main run as Robin and his death arc and is the main essential reading I’d recommend. It’s fairly short and a good place to start imo!
Among others, it includes his post-crisis origin and first outing as Robin, his first meeting with Dick, the Garzonas incident, and his death and its immediate aftermath in the Death in the Family arc.
Tumblr media
While Jason’s time as Robin in post crisis is fairly short and not as hard to get through as other characters with longer runs, i know Reading Comics Hard so I’ll make a shorter list first, with more recs under the cut!
Batman #408-#409 (Jason's origin)
Batman #410-#411 (his first outing as Robin)
Batman #413 (smart boy Jason)
Batman #415 (more good Jason moments)
Batman #416 (his and Dick's first meeting, also Dick and Bruce argue)
Batman Annual #12 (has a solo Jason story set at his school)
Detective Comics #569-#570 (Jason gets to kick the Joker's butt)
Detective Comics #571 (the Scarecrow kidnaps Jason)
Detective Comics #573 (this one’s just cute)
Superman Annual #11 (Bruce, Jason and Wonder Woman visit Superman on his birthday and stuff happens)
Blue Devil #19 (Jason is pen pals with Kid Devil)
Batman: the Cult (a 4-issue pretty dark miniseries where Bruce is kidnapped and brainwashed by a cult. Some great Jason moments)
Batman #424-#425 (The Garzonas storyline, or when Jason may or may not have pushed somebody off a building. Trigger warnings for sexual assault and suicide)
Batman #426-#429 (A Death in The Family, or Jason’s death arc)
I’ll be referencing this Jason reading list, since it’s what I followed when I started reading. It can be checked for a more comprehensive list of his appearances too, since I’m not aiming for a full list! (though I might edit it to include more stuff eventually.)
First things first, Jason got rebooted once during his time as Robin; he was originally a circus kid like Dick in pre-crisis (before the reboot), and later in post-crisis got his more well-known origin as the orphan who stole the tires off the batmobile. I’ll be focusing on post-crisis Robin Jason since I’m still reading his pre-crisis run, but the list I linked has more info on that if you’re interested!
Batman and Robin-focused
Tumblr media
Stories centered on the Dynamic Duo!
Batman #408-#429 - Jason’s post-crisis run as Robin, as mentioned above! The last four issues are the Death in the Family arc. The Batman: Second Chances trade collects a good chunk of these (#408-#416), plus Batman Annual #11 and a couple stories from before Jason’s post-crisis origin.
Detective Comics #568-#582 - Jason’s Robin run in Detective Comics! It’s a fun read and Alan Davis’ art style is very cute imo. (Jason isn’t around from #575 to #578 due to getting hurt in #573)
Batman Annual #10-#12 - More Batman and Robin stories. #12 has a Jason solo story set at his school!
Batman: the Cult - a 4-issue miniseries where Bruce is kidnapped and brainwashed by a cult. A pretty dark story and one of the last ones from before his death. Jason has some great moments in it!
Dc Retroactive: Batman - The 80s - Story from 2011 written by Mike Barr, who wrote Jason’s 80s Robin stories in Detective Comics!
Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spetacular - One of the stories, More Time, is about Jason and Bruce and goes between the past (with Jason as Robin) and the present (with Jason as Red Hood). Short and very sweet!
Crossovers/Teamups
Tumblr media
In which Jason meets or teams up with other characters, with or without Batman!
Blue Devil #19 - Jason is pen pals with Eddie Bloomberg/Kid Devil and teams up with him!
Action Comics #556 + #594 - Jason meets Superman!
Superman Annual #11 - For The Man Who Has Everything, or where Jason goes with Bruce to Superman’s birthday, first meets Wonder Woman, and Stuff Happens. (Jason gets to be the hero!)
New Teen Titans V2 (1984) #18-#31 - Jason joins the Teen Titans for a while! It’s fun to see him in a team and his characterization here is really good imo. (this is the span of issues he appears in but he isn’t in all of them)
Legends (six-part miniseries) - A DC crossover event! Jason has short but great appearances (the time where he breaks his leg, but wants to get up and help anyway).
Nightwing Year One #101-#106 - A rewrite of Dick's Nightwing origin with occasional Jason appearances until #106, which is a retelling of their first meeting where they work together to rescue Alfred. While I have Issues with the characterization of Jason in this, it has some cute moments and I’d be remiss to not include the story that introduces Dick’s nickname of “Little Wing” for Jason.
After his Death
Tumblr media
Stuff dealing with the aftermath of Jason’s death and the impact it left on others. (Some of the stuff here is just listed for a single page or panel rather than a full story about Jason)
Batman #430-#432 + #496 - Bruce in the aftermath of Jason’s death.
Batman Annual #13 - Jason appears in a flashback.
The New Titans #55 - Dick and the Titans find out about Jason’s death, and Dick confronts Bruce about it.
Batman: Year Three + A Lonely Place of Dying - While these focus on Dick and Tim respectively, they’re set after Jason’s death and show how Bruce is dealing with it. Year Three is in Batman #436-#439 and A Lonely Place of Dying (Tim’s origin story) is in Batman #440/New Titans #60/Batman #441/New Titans #61/Batman #442, also included in reprints of Death in the Family.
Detective Comics #618 - Has a nice little moment of Tim looking up to Jason.
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #100 - The issue is mainly a Dick origin story, but in the end there’s a sweet and sad story about Jason’s beginning and ending as Robin.
Nightwing Secret Files and Origins - On the first story, Taking Wing, Jason appears to Dick as a dream/hallucination while the latter is having a near-death experience and accompanies him through various of Dick’s memories.
Joker: Last Laugh #6 - The one time when, upon believing Tim was killed and being taunted with Jason’s death, Dick kills the Joker. (the full thing is a six-issue miniseries)
Nightwing (1996) #63 - The aftermath of Dick killing the Joker (though he was revived), but I’m mainly including this for the one panel that shows a picture of Dick and Jason on what seems to be a ski trip.
Batman: Gotham Knights #34 - At the end there’s a story called “The Delusions of Alfred Pennyworth” about Jason’s ghost and Alfred.
Batman: Gotham Knights #43-#45 - Has a flashback to a Barbara and Jason teamup and a recap of Jason’s death as a social worker looks into it and investigates Bruce’s family.
Detective Comics #790 - Bruce talks to Cass about Jason on the day of Jason’s birthday.
Robin V4 #85 - The story itself is about the Joker reflecting on the Robins and Jason only appears briefly, but I think it’s worthwile to include as it’s one of the few times where the involvement of Jason’s mother in his death is acknowledged after Death in the Family. (Also there’s a panel where Jason kicks the joker on the crotch)
Green Arrow V3 (2001) #7 - The one panel where Jason is shown swinging around in heaven :)
Alternate Universes/Other Media
Tumblr media
Some stuff that doesn’t fit anywhere else/isn’t quite comics/isn’t really canon, but I think is neat and wanted to include!
Letters - letters from readers sent during when Jason was Robin and after his death. They can be interesting to look through to get a sense of how he was seen by readers at the time (there’s even an eulogy by a clergyman!). The ones I’ve seen can be found in this tag, and this post links to a few too (as well as some other info regarding Jason and the vote that led to his death).
The Batman Files - A book that contains several files over various topics and characters across Batman’s history. Among other things, it has Jason’s death certificate. (mainly including this because early on I spent a while trying to find out how old he was when he died)
Tiny Titans #23, #29, #33, #39, #45, #47 - An adorable alternate universe comic in a kid-friendly setting! Jason’s design in it is very cute.
Batman The Brave and the Bold #13 - Jason and Robins from other points in time team up to save Batman!
Teen Titans Go! season 6, episode 17 (Egg Hunt) - He doesn’t actually appear, but Jason is namedropped and said to be Batman’s favorite Robin.
Batman And The New Robin (unmade cartoon) - An unproduced animated TV series from the late 80s that would have starred Bruce as Batman and Jason as Robin! Unfortunately the project was abandoned and the show was never made, but the full series bible is available to read in its entirety and a link to it can be found here! There’s a page on it on the Lost Media Wiki as well.

wait what is barbara even doing right now? is she batgirling with nightwing or oracling with the batgirls? Are there 2 of her? cause i saw both in one fearstate issue…
So the thing with these kinds of events is that there's lots of moving pieces, which if you're not keeping up with everything can get very confusing very fast. Actually no even if you are keeping up with everything it's still almost just as confusing (like, comic book events are NOT reader friendly in the slightest. Usually when stories are later collected in trades they'll put things in a slightly easier to understand order, but keeping up with the books as they come out is a nightmare)
But I'm 90% sure you're talking about how in Batman this week in the main story we saw her like this:
Tumblr media
(Batman (2016) #115)
and in the Batgirls backup story we saw her like this:
Tumblr media
(Batman (2016) #115)
Now, the thing is that these two stories while both clearly taking place during this event, don't necessarily take place in the order we're seeing them, they are separate stories that just happen to be printed in the same book. Publishing can be weird and some parts of these stories just take longer to get through than others the way they're being told, ya know? And it's also like... some events are happening simultaneously, we're just getting them from the perspectives of the different characters in different stories.
But what I'm pretty sure the order of events (i've italicized issues that haven't come out yet and are far more speculative order-wise) for this plot thread with the Batgirls + Seer + immediately related things is:
The Batwoman story in Batman: Urban Legends #8* -> Batgirls Backup in Batman #115 happening simultaneously with the first half of Nightwing #84 -> The ending of Nightwing #84 where Babs puts on a new Batgirl uniform happening simultaneously with the main story in Batman #115, and Nightwing #85 immediately picks up where #84 left off (so still overlapping with Batman #115)**-> Batgirls backup in Batman #116*** (and possibly also the main story just simultaneously elsewhere in the city) -> Nightwing #86 will presumably pick up after*** -> probably the Batwoman story in UL #9 somewhere after that
*We know for sure the UL 8 story was first in terms of 'batgirl business' bc of Jess' editor note
Tumblr media
(Batman (2016) #115)
**This panel in Nightwing is showing the same moment (give or take a few minutes, but clearly the same scene) as the first panel from Batman #115 in this post
Tumblr media
(Nightwing (2016) #84)
***and we also know for sure that the events from the end of the most recent Nightwing issue pick up with the Batgirls in Batman #116 from this editor's note, and the 'Next: Batgirls' + the fact tht Steph & Cass are on #86's cover implies things with them will be picking up back in Nightwing after
Tumblr media
(Nightwing (2016) #85)
Now the release order of these things might feel a bit weird, but that's because there's also other plot threads in this event that were getting told that started earlier and so things just kinda have to shift as necessary (like, Clownhunter had his backup story finishing in Batman #114 so it's not like they could have bumped the Batgirls one earlier, also if they had then the timing for the next part of the Batgirls one would be off)
Like on the one hand honestly with how comic release schedules work (most are monthly) and the use of anthologies and backups needing to fit into things... I don't think there really is a good coherent linear way to release these things, but it is still definitely a pain. Hopefully once the event is over it'll make a little more sense how the pieces fit!
But to uh... actually answer your question: She's acting as Batgirl right now, the Oracle stuff in the Batgirls backup took place earlier but release dates are just weird.

messy thoughts incoming about dick being a cop. i’ll clean this up later with comic panels and stuff, but i think a common misconception (thank you, fandom!) is that dick wholeheartedly wanted to be a cop and that being a cop is his true calling and he did that to get away from bruce.
that... isn’t even the case. dick canonically became a cop because it was an undercover assignment to try to dismantle all of the dirty cops in bludhaven. he ended up getting the MAJORITY of the police force in bludhaven (i think upwards to 75-85% of the police force?) fired or arrested for being dirty, but that still didn’t 150% fix the problem either.
literally, right after most of the police force is gone, we have a scene of dick’s partner, a gay police officer, getting beaten by “good” police officers (aka the ones who survived the dirty cop purge) for being gay. dick, of course, comes onto the scene, stops it from happening, says “we’re supposed to be the good cops here, not partake in this sort of bullshit”, and manages to protect his police partner. dick, by this point, was supposed to have quit, but a) he felt a responsibility because he just DECIMATED the police force and b) [my own thoughts] realised that even the “good” cops who didn’t take bribes aren’t actually good cops, and so he stayed. I think there’s about two (2) whole good cops in that series that aren’t incompetent/homophobic/racist pieces of shit, and dick liked both of them enough to stay on the force for them to help because he felt a sense of responsibility for the amount of work they’d have to deal with.
dick didn’t like being a cop. dick even said numerous times in his run that he wished he could have been nightwing in moments and not officer dick grayson. dick liked all of two people in the police force, and they were enough to make him stay, but dick himself was not heavily attached to the job nor thought it was his calling as now most people in the fandom write him out to be.
and these thoughts are not bc i think acab (because i do), but (surprise surprise aka not if you look at my full muse list which does have a few agents and a police detective) i don’t mind writing cops/fbi agents when it makes in-character-sense for them to do so. for dick, who is canonically shown to be kinda on the side of “i don’t want to be a cop” prior to dixon’s run and still during dixon’s run is kinda sorta like “eh this would be better if i was nightwing/i’m here to take down the majority of the police force”, i don’t know how or why people seem to think DICK LOVES BEING A COP AND WANTS TO BE ONE 150%.

New Marvel Wolverine Plans Revealed
https://ift.tt/2Vk1LKx
As the X-Men continue to return, Marvel's Dawn of X will include a new Wolverine series.
facebook
twitter
tumblr
The X-Men books are in the midst of a critical and creative reinvigoration, and at New York Comic Con, Marvel announced the first new book after the initial relaunch: Wolverine, by Ben Percy and Adam Kubert.
Kubert is one of the definitive Wolverine artists. He drew, among other issues:
Wolverine #75, the Fatal Attractions issue with Logan clinging to life after Magneto ripped the adamantium from his skeleton.
Wolverine #85, the Phalanx Covenant crossover that is surprisingly relevant right now.
Weapon X, the Wolverine book that was published during the Age of Apocalypse.
Another two-ish years of Wolverine ongoings in the mid '90s.
The first eight issues of Ultimate X-Men, where Logan's look changed so dramatically.
And there's another four years of Uncanny X-Men in there, too. He has most recently been found on the incredibly good Peter Parker: Spectacular Spider-Man with Chip Zdarsky, and doing some of the best storytelling of his entire career on Captain America with Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Kubert will be joined on this Wolverine relaunch by Ben Percy. Percy is writing X-Force for the relaunch, but also wrote the two Wolverine radio dramas, Wolverine: The Long Night and Wolverine: The Lost Trail. In addition to his Marvel work, Percy was also the Rebirth relaunch writer for Green Arrow, and did a stretch of very good Nightwing stories."We all have that character. The one we love more than any other. The one we treasure in books and movies and maybe memorialize with a t-shirt or tattoo. The one we relate to as a cracked-mirror version of ourselves," said Percy. "For me - as a growly, grumpy, hairy, smelly, muscled, flannel-clad, whiskey-swilling loner who lives in the woods of the frozen north - it's Logan. And though this might sound corny, it also feels right to say that writing Wolverine is a dream come true, a childhood fantasy realized. No kidding, bub.
This marks the first post-House/Powers of X book that is not a team book. All the others announced so far are team books, and even the smallest team - Fallen Angels' Kwannon/Psylocke, Cable and X-23 - will be growing quickly. X-Men group editor Jordan White announced at the panel that Husk and Bling would be joining the book in issue 5, and that it would be examining mutants who are uncomfortable with the new status quo on Krakoa.

Common to the Rebirth discourse, from the beginning, has been the question of “Where is Superboy?” Also common to Rebirth discourse, I guess, is the question of “If/When Conner comes back, what will he go by?”
I’m going to answer the second first, because I think it’s super funny that people don’t think there can be two Superboys. Guys, how many Flashes to we have? How many GLs have we had (who have gone by GL on earth and in the League, not in the entirety of the Corps)? My favourite Flash is Flash II, Barry (and how many time has mah boi got to sacrifice himself, anyway? once per Convergence event?), but Flash I is Jay and Flash III is Wally (my Wally, nerd Wally, redhead Wally, love of my life [number, like, six] Wally).
I digress. But I think Conner could just go by Superboy, and there can be two SBs, I and II. Anyway, how great would it be if they can be called “the Superboys” as a unit, the way kids get called “the boys” or “the kids” or whatever? Superfamily has Superboys. I love it.
But damn. DAMN. Geoff, when is the Superboy coming back? He’s been gone since the start of n52, and I get really emotional thinking about it? But, it’s a matter of when, not if, right? And I’ve seen the spread of Death of Superman/Return of Superman panels from Rebirth Action Comics, and the only person missing was Conner, bro. CONNER. (Hell, Supes remembered his 90s ‘do, so where’s Kon?)
Rebirth is... I care about Rebirth a lot, because it’s a capital-C Chance. They done right by me twice (at least), so far, in bringing back Nightwing (and putting him back in blue! HALLELUJAH!) and giving me back my Wally, the one they ruined in their attempts to be more racially diverse back in n52 (because that Wally was never the same character and never even pretended to be, except in name). My Wally’s back, Other-Wally’s still here, the Flash Family is bigger! I love it! I’m in love!
Well.
Except.
Where is Bart Allen?
I’m all for bigger families. I love the family unit thing that’s going on in DC, and I always have. Did I like Supergirl? No. But, uh, I never liked Superman, either, until a lot more recently. It’s the families I love. Dad!Supes. Aunt!Supergirl. The schtick. The whole thing.
So, where is Bartholomew Allen’s grandson of the same name? Where is my fav future kid (besides my beloved Braniac 5)? He, too, has been missing since the start of n52, since the n52 Bart was a friggin’ imposter and not an Allen and ugh. Spare me.
I think I almost entirely quit n52 after that reveal, and I was just starting to try it, at the time.
A mess. What a mess.
Look, I honestly couldn’t care less about Wonder Girl (unless it’s Donna Troy, or unless we get WG and Troia), but the quintessential trio is Tim Drake, Bart Allen, and Conner Kent. No matter how unfamiliar I was with 90s Titans, I knew that this was the basic trio where Dick, Kori, and Cyborg were the basic 80s trio (I wanted so bad to say Wally - but I’d have to go further back and say Dick, Roy, Wally, and that... other Aqualad? since Wally was The Flash from ‘85 to ‘08, roughly).
What’s the trio, now? Who are Dami’s side babes? I’m actually super irate that there’s no clearly defined third generation trio, ya know? Tim/Bart/Kon (+Cassie) is so classic, and Dick/Kori/Vic (+Troia?) is pretty classic (80s Cyborg tho, pfffft). But like What’s Dami got? Other Wally and... a bunch of original Titans (BB, Rae, Kori, Cy)? I didn’t think he was Dick 2.0. Why doesn’t he get his own, new friends the way Tim did?
I digress. Really bad.
Where was I?
Oh. Bring back the trouble trio! I want SB, Impulse, and Red Robin to tear it up in Rebirth. I want to see them working together, again. Heck, I’d lowkey kill to have Tim leading the Titans, again.
Speaking of Titans, there was maybe one n52 character I cared about, Titan-wise. And it wasn’t not-Conner. It was Bunker.
Where is Miguel Barragan?
Where is Virgil Hawkins?
Where is Red Tornado?
Where is The Question? (And I don’t even care which Question, I just kinda miss the faceless weirdo.)
And, fine, Where is Cassie Sandsmark?
Where is J’onn J’onzz? And what do you MEAN he’s not a founding member of the JL anymore? What?
And where is Billy Batson?
AND WHERE IS THE JSA?
I read a few lists of things missing from Rebirth, and I’m gobsmacked at how many things and people aren’t in Rebirth. Things I thought were integral to DCU stuff, as a whole. I mean, I don’t like Hawkwoman or whatever she’s actually called, but how is she not around? I find Plastic Man laughable, but he’s supposed to be there, isn’t he?
Next thing you’ll tell me is that Alan Scott is awol. (A short Google later) Oh god where is Alan in Rebirth? Tell me he’s there. Tell me he’s not dead. Look, I don’t cre about Jade (idk, I haven’t read enough of her to care, yet), but Alan is special to me, because of... reasons and things. I love this GL Prime type deal he has going on, I love the updated idea of him having a prototype ring or something.
But I’m just digressing more.
Just. Hey, DC? I love that my Wally’s home. And I love that Dick’s not traipsing around as a Secret Agent, anymore (but the wtf aspect of that remains, for me), but I... don’t think i can handle a DC universe without Conner in it. And I don’t really... want a DC universe without Virgil in it. (psa: his middle name is Ovid. How nerdy is that?? Virgil Ovid Hawkins.)
Virgil was important to me, in my childhood. I’m just a white boy, sure, but Virgil was one of my first favourite heroes (along with Spiderman and the X-Men as a whole), and I felt like I learned so much from his show. I’m still pissed I can’t find a box set (DC, get on it).
Nightwing is important to a... portion of my teen years that was otherwise really dark.
Conner was important to me because of his issues and stuggles with personal identity.
These are my heroes in a way that most other iconic heroes just aren’t. I get this thrill of happiness and sense of hope from each of these. I have a list of comics I need to purchase, and almost the entire list is at least peripherally about these characters (or Nightcrawler, of Marvel fame -- for similar reasons to why Conner is important to me). Hell, I got Death of Superman and World Without a Superman just so that I could properly appreciate Conner’s first appearance in Return of Superman!
I just. Even if Wally’s home. Even if NW is back in the blue. It takes all three of these characters to really make me feel at home in a continuity.
Plus Barry and Hal. Otherwise I’d just permanently make my home in 90s DC comics, haha. Nope, of course they’re dead in what is otherwise the perfect place for my comic home to be.
Whatever, I just needed to ramble.
