AU: where Lucerys managed to escape from the Storm’s End, but never told anyone about what’s happened there. He didn’t even know why, but later he understood he actually felt guilty in front of Aemond because of the child fight. After that time passed, the situation between families was still tense and the Dance of Dragons has been just delayed. But before that every part of family had to deal with its own problems. And during one of the battles for Driftmark already adult Lucerys was hardly injured, he lost his eye but survived once again. Aemond finds out about this only when they meet in the Kings Landing once for a while.

It’s so sad that Aegon, who is trying to be a better King than his father, is being told by Larys that Alicent and Aemond are ‘undermining him’ and after rooks rest he will believe the lie to be true
to their credit they are trying to undermine him 😭 alicent has stated multiple times she intends to manipulate him and rule in his place, and aemond always had ambitions of his own. the thing is, they’re not successful at influencing egg because their approach is not subtle or effective: instead of capitalizing in his hunger for approval, they chastise him. larys did do his psychology homework and is getting to aegon effectively, but he’s isolating aegon from his family for his own means, when they should be an united front.

Author’s Note: A modern Aemond smutty/fluffy One-Shot won the Valentine’s Day poll. I thought to myself, “what is more fluffy than a love that is only halted by death?” This fic is based on my favorite song “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” by George Jones.
Warnings: Major Character Death, a small amount of Smut, Angst, heart-wrenching fluff mixed with longing, hurt/no comfort.
Rating: Mature
Pairings: Modern Aemond x (Third Person) AFAB Reader

spoilers for ep5 of hotd s2
I was genuinely sickened by the scene of daemon and his mother 😰 what were the writers on. i was genuinely keeping my hopes for rhea royce to terrorize daemon with a rock. or atleast a hallucination of viserys giving daemon all the validation he ever wanted. BUT HIS MOTHER??? either way, daemon being a miserable fuck is honestly funny. he can't control people with fear anymore and he can't fucking deal with it. i am starting to be intrigued by criston cole. i still greatly dislike him but i recognize that it's the writing. i have a feeling he's become more solemn because he knows that aemond intended for aegon to die, but he feels that if he tells alicent, it would only be worse. the conversation between alicent and criston was interesting. their dynamic has changed and i would genuinely like to see more. hugh hammer is proving to be an interesting character. i like that we can see the plight of the smallfolk through him. i love love love love mysaria and rhaenyra together. jace is taking charge, truly shaping himself into the incredible asset that he was to his mother's council. but he looked so tiny at that table. GIVE ME SABITHA FREY. and kermit. and benjicot blackwood. alys rivers is still serving and brewing weird potions. i adore her, to be honest. i was so relieved we didn't lose jeyne arryn in the end. i can see why she and rhaenyra are related lol. i really really hope rhaena will flourish in the eyrie and find her place in this. the baela and jace scenes are also lovely. they're betrothed, they're supposed to rule after rhaenyra and i love that they're becoming a team. elinda massey is struggling so hard keeping up with this targaryen bs but she still does her work like the loyal queen she is. i have not seen the leaks, but i hope by the end of the season we will have the sowing of the seeds. i loved how there was some playfulness emerging between mother and son as they spoke of it. aegon saying "mummy" broke my heart. i dare say, thus episode was interesting. the character work done here was intriguing. too little gwayne hightower unfortunately.
lol i forgot to add the tags

It must have been horrifying for Aegon, Aemond, and Helaena in the years before the dance, all three of them experiencing varying levels of heightened paranoia and unrest every single day.
Viserys was sicky-looking even in ep 6, and the chance of him dying (even then) was pretty high. I can’t imagine that uncertainty breeding anything but fear and worry among everyone.
From their inception, the kids lived in this constant “flight or fight” state, not knowing if Rhaenyra would ever return to the Red Keep, not knowing if Daemon would just turn up at the gates and demand their heads, not knowing if one day Viserys would just disinherit them at the request of his ‘only child.’
Aegon getting drunk every night because the alternative would be thinking of his (very likely) visit to the executioners block; Aemond throwing himself into every lesson, every practice fight with Criston, every flight with Vhagar, because he knows that this period of peace is a farce; Helaena flinching at every touch and sound because she simply doesn’t know whether that’s a friend, or whether the beasts have finally caught up with her.
Alicent going to bed each night, knowing that in the morning, her children’s heads might decorate the walls of the Keep. That one day, she’ll go into Helaena’s rooms and find her missing; that Aegon may never return from his visits to the city; that Aemond may just take the fight to Dragonstone just to end the painful wait that Rhaenyra has (unknowingly, which makes it worse) subjected them all to.
That if her father messes up again, Viserys will send him away (again), that she’ll be alone (again) in a castle that doesn’t want her (again), without allies or friends (again).
Can you imagine living in that state for a week, let alone two decades?

lowkey the writers insisting on intertwining alicent and rhaenyra + hotd 'being a story abt them' is probably like,,, the source of over half their problems
#aging alicent down was a mistake and it shows#no it doesn't make sense for alicent to suddenly abandon her children to go see rhaenyra#it doesn't make sense for rhaenyra to go see alicent in king's landing or seemingly want peace bc alicent is on the other side#'but they were friends as kids' and friends grow apart. which rhaenyra and alicent clearly did. so what now#alicent has given rhaenyra zero reasons to care for her or her wellbeing. from never shutting the fuck up abt her children possibly being#bastards to purposefully sowing discord between their children to pretending peace is possible after usurping her throne and killing her so#like that one council member who was like 'ofc she hasn't answered your letters. her son is dead' had the most common sense#and whatever you feel abt the incident where aemond's eye was cut out. you can't deny the biggest contribution to it happening was#bc alicent told her children that rhaenyra would have them killed when she got to the throne. and hamered this point in by hitting aegon#and frankly i don't really think alicent cared abt rhaenyra during the timeskip either. why would she suddenly care what rhaenyra thought o#her. if she's such a threat to her kids why would she want her around or want peace with her#if alicent truly wanted peace jace and helaena marrying was enough but she chose to not let it happen so why would she care abt peace NOW#the show's reducing them to passive victims of men with zero agency when their book selves would be taking charge#rhaenyra would cut off her council's tongues for the way they've spoken to her in the past few eps#the writing is making them both look like idiots and the show is suffering severely bc of it#and being like 'well they're gay and stupid' 'they're in love and that's why they make stupid choices' yall only say that to cope#a stupid writing choice is a stupid writing choice no matter how you try to frame it#hotd#house of the dragon#anti hotd

I read that the dyana scene was added last minute so I wouldn't put too much thought into it the writers clearly didn't. Do you think Ali genuinely cared about dyana though?
It was added last minute?!?!!! Well that does explain a lot. Were they even planning on having aegon be a confirmed rapist?
I think a lot of people see the Alicent / Dyana scene as black and white (or rather it’s how they see the entire show)
Alicent is either the evil witch who didn’t give a fuck about the victim or that her son is a rapist but only cares about herself and her family image. Dyana was just a problem to be solved and aegon just needs to keep his depraved nature hidden but they claim she doesn’t care at all about him being rapist.
Alicent only cared about Dyana in the moment and genuinely was trying to help her to the best of her abilities. She saw her younger self in Dyana and truly wanted to help her and felt nothing but disgust towards aegon.
My interpretation is that Alicent was genuinely horrified and had empathy for Dyana. She meant what she said when she told her she believed her and wanted to help BUT she also wanted to protect her family even if she was completely disgusted by her son. There was a moment when she’s hugging Dyana where her demenure changes and I think this is when she realised she needed to do damage control. She paid her to start over probably thinking she’s helped the victim as best as she can while also avoiding a scandal and ‘dealing’ with aegon herself. As for bringing up herself, helaena and how aegons crimes impact them when trying to get her point across - this is an unfortunate part of rape culture, using the “you have a wife, daughter, sister, mother” narrative to get through to men. She cared about Dyana when she’s face to face with this young girl in distress , who suffered at the hands of her son, her heir but like most nobles they care about their own family, privilege and image more.

I wonder how many people would ship Rhaena and Aemond more if the show Velaryons were cast with white people
Second daughter / second son and both feeling like they're second-rate.
Their cradle eggs not hatching and both growing up in the shadow of a dragon-riding family.
Both having a connection to the same dragon and Rhaena playing a pivotal role in the night that Aemond exchanged his eye for a dragon.
The biggest joke is that it's the show that sets up this dynamic. None of this stuff was in the books. But the show-writers decided to turn Rhaena into a joke instead because why not and fans would rather ship Aemond with his sister.

people are saying the dragon fight looked bad? are they crazy? it was so well done it looked like the dragons were actual real animals fighting each other, i swear people just make up reasons to hate the show
yeah i’ve seen like a HIGH number of bitching online even tho everyone not Eternally Online seemed to like it aksjdj and of course they did!! We got to see what dragon hunting and fighting really looks like, we got meleys practically exploding when she hit the ground, they made sure it took place during the day so we SAW WHAT HAPPENED, we got closeups and wide shots that were really cool, the cgi looked great, the way the battle was filmed looked amazing, like the cut to cole being disoriented and touching the knight only for it to be armor and ash, the slow horror walk past his burning men and to aemond with his sword drawn? that was all real fun!! i think fabien, eve, and tom really killed the emotional bears here and ewan did a great job looking both competent and unhinged. like some parts of the ep didn’t work for me but the entire ending was NOT one of those things, it looked cool!!
