Just ‘Quip It! - To Arms Winners

Now, with most of these contests, we have a presupposition that these cards are all designed for standard sets unless someone says others, whether that be us judges or the person submitting. But when a card is submitted that says “This card can be your commander,” you kind of just know it’s not meant to be lumped in with SNC and DMU. As for the rest of that funky little Presence ability, I think I could really see this as an alt commander for a deck, sort of like Shorikai. It’s deceptively powerful, but you need a decent amount of mana for it to start working. To be honest, I might make a decklist for this.

If I had a nickel for each submission this week that had the line “You control equipped creature,” I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice. Anyhow, I appreciate that this is a pretty decent bomb that could work on its own, but honestly is better if you have another creature with evasion. Add to that the meager toughness, and you really want at least something else on the field with it. But given the large effect, rare makes a lot of sense for this, and I’d be more than excited to slot this into my deck.

Anyhow, I appreciate that this is an evasion ability all it’s own, and that most times it’s going to end up being let through rather than blocked. I’m a tad upset it isn’t a phyrexian, despite the watermark and art direction suggesting as such, but I understand given the typeline. Another thing of note is that this disincentivizes attacks towards you, which can be bad gameplay, but because it lacks evasion-blocking abilities, I can let it slide.

Ah, what a year it's been!

I certainly never intended it to take this long to announce the winners, but here we are. It's been an adventure already, and hopefully the second half of the year is much calmer. My fingers are crossed for it, anyway.

As it so happens, there will be no poll this year!

Neon pulled her entry out of consideration, which leaves us with three entrants and three prizes! I had an excellent time reading and reviewing them all, and so...

There are no words for how haunting the story On the Shorter Side comes across, with Dean trying to find his place in a giant world. And of course the artwork of Bowman shows his attitude about getting caught perfectly, not to mention how beautiful Mallory came out in the second picture!

Okay I know some finnish have propably been very disrespectful losers, I have too been too harsh on Loreen. But can we talk about the swedish newsreporters for a second?

Sweden WON. They WON Eurovision. And what is Sweden making news about? Making fun of Finland and throwing tantarums at finns for not giving them public votes.

Wonder why that happened.

Sweden WON and Loreen made history. First woman to win the Eurovision song contest twice. She should be celebrated. So why can't swedish be happy?

"Our weird little brother Finland is throwing a petty fit for losing" "Finland used to be part of us" "Sometimes the public is wrong".

Camoon Sweden, you won. Why do you have to rub salt into wounds?

"Some Germany got votes but not us" "I don't think they can find 10 better songs than Tattoo" "Finlands voting was rigged"

Thats what Sweden is saying. Instead of celebrating Loreen it seems. Because of course a nation of 5,5 million people can throw a national campain to not vote Sweden. Makes a lot of sense.

Also our commentator got some of this too. Apparently Mikko was telling everyone to vote tactically. In fact he read a joke from the live chat about tactical voting and no countries were mentioned. So no, YLE did not incite any camoain against Sweden. Loreen was actually Mikko's favorite.

Käärijä was descriped as "harshly partying salad bowl". Cool Sweden.

Of course we also have "shame on Finland" "fuck them" "stupid people".

You know, listening all this you would think Sweden lost. And I would have understood all this if they did, cause Finland has been saying these too. But Sweden WON, Loreen WON. THEY WON. So why can't they be happy instead of being bitter for not getting a few votes (which didn't affect the end result in any way) from Finland?

Loreen deserves better and Finland doesn't deserve this shit from Sweden.
