It’s terribly late.

Really, the both of you should’ve wandered upstairs to bed at least an hour ago. There’s work tomorrow, early for you, less so for Steve, but it’s work all the same. He’ll grumble in the morning like he always does, tired and yawning all through his morning coffee.

Despite knowing this, Steve doesn’t even think of suggesting to turn in soon. Not when it’s one of these nights. 

Sometimes, Steve finds it takes gentle coaxing to get you to unwind from your day. When you spend so much of the day tense, reining in reactions and biting your tongue, he knows it takes more time, more touch. It’s worth losing the sleep, staying up to talk it out. Worth it to know he’s giving you peace of mind. That he can protect you from even restless nights.

Most of the time, you won’t even realise you’re wound up — it’s impossible to sift through feelings when all you feel is down. It’s not until after Steve’s worked his magic that you can tell how long the day has really been. When the stress leaks out of your shoulders and you slump into him like a puppet with its strings cut.

It’s one of those nights tonight.

You’re up on the kitchen counter. How you ended up there is lost in the haze of your tired night. You faintly recall tumbling through the door, somehow after Steve even though you started work before him. Overtime is a bitch.

Between then and now, you’re certain you’ve managed to shovel some food into you but mainly, you’ve been watching Steve fuss about the kitchen. To you, there’s no better remedy that the sight of your lover.

He’d already made dinner by the time you’d gotten in the door, some simple pasta dish, cheesy and delicious. He’d insisted on doing the cleaning up as well, seeing your low-lidded eyes and curled in shoulders. The fatigue rolls off you in waves. It makes Steve’s heart ache in an awful way.

So, he had kissed you sweet and ushered you up onto the counter, his warm hands helping under your thighs when you’d groaned and barely made a move to jump up. He mumbled something soft into your hair, ‘my tired, sweet girl’, and sealed it in with a kiss.

It had been soothing just to watch him, sleeves rolled up while he scrubbed at the soapy dishes. Rinsing the plates and working instinctively, letting the story about his own day come out in quiet rumbles, just letting you listen. You hum from time from time to let him know you’re listening, even if you feel a bit hollow.

But now, dishes done, Steve’s onto his most important job — drawing out the burdens of the day from his you. The cups of tea he’s fixed for both of you are beside you on the counter, long forgotten. Steam stains the air, just a hint of peppermint. 

Steve’s moved between your legs, hips leaning against the counter. He’s close enough that an inch forward and your head would rest against his collarbones. One hand sits on your knee, feather-light touches of his thumb against your skin. The other is held between yours, letting you fumble with it as you talk. Your hands work his fingers, playing with it idly as you talk.

“Yeah? And what’d she say?” He asks, voice low and head tilted to show he’s listening. 

“Y’know, just the usual. It wasn’t what she said, just like,” You sigh wearily, drawing a line down the middle of Steve’s palm with your finger. Your eyes stay fixed on your motions, his hand in your own. Your voice is smaller than you intend as you try to recall the rude memory of your manager today. “The way she said it? I don’t know, does that even make sense?”

“It does,” Steve assures, his hand giving your knee a quick squeeze. When your head remains bowed, still fiddling with his hand, Steve flips it over, his hand covering both yours to still your fidgeting.

“Hey,” He says, soft. His head ducks low, trying to catch your eyes. It’s alarming to see a sheen in them, glossy in a way he knows means tears. Something tears in his heart, his concern doubling in an instant. “Sweetheart, woah, woah, hey.”

You let out a pathetic sniffle and that’s all it takes for Steve’s instincts to kick in, pulling his hand out of your grip to bundle you into his arms. You cave, crumbling into his chest and burying your face away — one of his hands cradles the back of your head, loving strokes along your scalp. The other provides consoling sweeps along the curve of your spine. It all really just makes you want to cry harder.

“S’okay,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss into the side of your head. It’s warmth seeps into your skin, a silent comfort through your tears. "It's okay, honey."

It feels so utterly stupid to fall apart over something so little, just a bad day that’s crept under your skin, made its home in your nerves. It feels unbearable, trying to unwork it from your blood. You’re not sure how long you cry, just that Steve’s there the whole time.

When you finally pull back, shuddering breaths, Steve’s fingers make quick work to wipe your tears. Calloused fingertips that sweep across your under-eyes, tender and kind.

There’s a light kiss against your forehead, another against your damp cheek, gentle as ever. Steve doesn’t speak, his eyes just searching your face — though you can’t tell what he’s looking for. You’re too dead tired, exhausted by your own emotions, to give any semblance of a smile, even though you feel a bit better now.

“Bed now?” He suggests, voice soft and low. The clock on the wall ticks loudly in the lull of words, a reminder of how long ago you both should’ve been asleep. You nod, pitiful and small. Steve trails the both of you upstairs, sets out your pajamas while you brush your teeth, then waits in the bathroom doorway til you’re done.

It’s close to midnight when you both finally crawl into bed. Steve’s arms are around you the moment you’re beside him and you find immense comfort with your head against his chest. The echo of his heartbeat plays like a lullaby beneath your ear.

“Sorry for keepin’ you up.” You whisper in the dark.

Steve’s arms tighten around you. He shifts around for a moment, then his hand sweeps back the hair off your forehead, and he gives a soft kiss there. It lingers for a few seconds, and when he pulls back, he snuggles closer, resting his cheek atop of your head.

“M’sorry you had a bad day.” He counters. You know he means it completely.

“I love you,” the words slur a bit, feeling yourself already dropping off closer to sleep. It’s impossible not to when you’re this warm and this damn tired.

You’re asleep before you hear his response but it doesn’t matter, you heard it in every kiss, know it from every sweet gesture and moment of the evening. He loves you, and he takes care of you. The sleep is a peaceful one.

Past Heather Dunbar x reader Warnings: language, angst, mentions of physical injury, hospitals and dizzy spells. Set in the universe where Heather is married with kids, yet still having affairs but this time there's actually feelings involved and that throws a wrench in things (ie; this aint classified affairs heather. she not toxic) it took a bit for me to figure this out, so it might have a couple of different like, "moods" to it, and i was originally gonna go with an extended ending but scrapped it so lmk if y'all want to know where i was going to take this originally or not... Heather was used to late nights.

Late hours at work. Working through dinner. Late nights alone in a big empty house while the kids were off at sleepovers, while Rob himself was working late hours at the hospital.

Some nights she used the bit of extra freedom for playtime. Sometimes she grabbed a bottle of her favourite wine and curled up on the couch to unwind with whatever she could find on the television or lose herself in a good book of complete fiction with absolutely no politics or realism to it whatsoever. There of course were the nights where she brought her own work home, it spreading across one of the many kitchen islands or her home office as the sun sunk in the sky and the chill took over the air.

Tonight it had been a bit of a mixture of all of the above. She’d made it home in time after work to make dinner for the kids, catching up on their weeks together before Jordan asked to be excused, vanishing to the guest house for an endless video game binge. After helping clean up Becca asked if she could go to a Halloween party and spend the night at a friend’s and Heather nodded, sending her away with a smile.

She spent a bit of time tidying around the house, thankful that Jordan was almost exclusively in the guest house nowadays, most of the mess that accumulated was from him. A few dishes left in the sink, a quick pick up of the main living room, and she tossed a few things of Becca’s into a basket to be taken upstairs whenever she came home. Finally she made her way upstairs, showering before she changed into something more comfortable, grabbing a bottle of wine from the rack in the sitting room and settled onto the couch. It wasn’t long after that her phone pinged with a text from Rob saying he’d picked up overtime in the E.R, things getting a little hectic thanks to Halloween weekend and he wasn’t sure when he’d be home so she simply enjoyed her night.

She let out a soft sigh as a commercial break took over the tv for what felt like the millionth time in the past ten minutes, taking a hefty sip of wine. She was bored. And on a kid free, husband free night like tonight, there was no doubt she’d normally be picking up her phone to have a little fun elsewhere, but tonight, that wasn’t possible. Instead she let out a small groan, pushing off the couch and padding through the upper level to put the wine back, pouring out a double scotch before continuing her evening. With the help of something a little stronger she finally felt the relief of the last couple of weeks lifting off her shoulders and by the end of the episode she was relaxed and decided to start getting ready for bed. She sent a text off to Jordan, a reminder to turn the volume down and keep it down til noon tomorrow, one to Becca to call if she needed anything, and one to Rob to remind him she was okay if he decided to not drive sleep deprived and stay overnight in an on call room; she would have breakfast ready whenever he got home. She slowly moved through her skincare routine, taking a little me time as she did so before flicking the bedroom tv on to finish her episode.

About fifteen minutes into it her phone pinged, she barely glanced toward it, thinking it was just a warranted reply from someone in her family. The reminder ping went off when the show was on commercial break so she finally picked it up, surprised to find the message one from you.

‘Hey. So sorry to bother you, I’m just in desperate need of a ride home, do you think there’s any chance you could send a car for me?’

Heather let out a soft breath, swiping open the message to type a reply.

‘I don’t back out on my promises sweetheart. You need to get home safe, what bar are you at?’

She waited, watching the three little bubbles pop up and fade before they disappeared again and again as you tried to figure out where you were and she couldn’t help but roll her eyes. You had to be pretty drunk if you couldn’t figure out where you were. Finally you got it, the bubble popping up with your reply.

‘900 23rd Street NW.’

Her brow furrowed as her breath caught in her throat, she knew that area and even if you had been out partying, you certainly weren’t at a bar any longer. Before she could figure out a response another bubble popped up.

‘Entrance 8.’

‘What the fuck are you doing in the emergency room?’

‘Don’t worry about it. They just won’t let me out of here without a ride, all the cab lines are busy and there’s a huge surcharge on Uber.’

‘I’ll be there in twenty.’

‘Thank you.’

She quickly gathered her things, putting in a call to her driver and prayed that they would be able to hurry. At first she’d been hoping you’d been with a friend who was admitted, doing the good deed of making sure they were okay before realizing you were trapped at the hospital with no way home. But your text said otherwise, and now she was worried. Thankfully traffic was light and she was able to get there in no time, pulling up to the entrance, her eyes darting between the people standing out front, trying to find you with no luck. She shot off a text to say the car was there and when her phone buzzed a moment later she glanced at it to not find a response from you, rather a text from Rob.

‘Hey. Just got home, are you hiding somewhere?’

‘No, sorry. A friend needed a ride and it sounded urgent enough I came along. Not sure how late I’ll be, I know you’re tired so don’t worry about waiting up.’

‘Alright. Stay safe.’

Heather felt the tiniest twinge in her stomach at Rob’s words, always making sure she was alright, knowing that if she had asked, he would immediately turn around and come help her. Then again, that’s why she’d made the call she did with you, you’d become more important than just a little plaything, that’s why she’d raced out tonight after all. She let out a huff, dropping back into the seat and looking out the tinted window again, searching for you with no avail once again. After a few more minutes she muttered something to her driver and slipped from the vehicle, making her way through the E.R to the nurses station. One of the ones she recognized glanced up as she approached, a small smile on her cheeks,

“Ms Dunbar, Rob just left.”

“I know.” She returned with a soft smile, “I’m actually here to pick up a friend. I figured she was discharged already but I may have been mistaken?” She gave your name and the nurse typed it into the computer, clicking through a few screens before she let out a little hum.

“She was on her way to be discharged when a dizzy spell hit and she fell. Looks like she should be good to go now though, she’s down in three twelve.” She nodded in the direction and Heather thanked her for the information, heading down the hallway, briefly knocking on the door frame before coming in.

You glanced up from your spot in the bed, pausing in the motion of tugging your sweater back on, your eyes widening when you saw Heather instead of the nurse entering the room. Panic surged through you, your heart beginning to hammer in your chest, you hadn’t seen her in weeks, since the day she’d called things off. The day she hurt you more than you thought she ever would be able to. It was the day you’d spent the last few weeks trying to forget, trying to distract yourself with anything other than the thought of her and the memories of your days and nights spent together.

“What’re you doing here?”

“You’re in the hospital, I wasn’t about to just send you a car.” She nearly laughed in response, crossing to the bed as she took you in. From your make-up-less face, your hair in a messy top knot, to your casual clothes it was clear you had not been out partying, she felt her stomach clench at the sight of your shirt, smeared with crimson, “please tell me that’s fake blood!”

“Uh..” your eyes darted down to your shirt, quickly pulling your sweater on all the way, wrapping it around you to cover the stain, “wish I could.”

“What happened?” She asked, her voice softening as she perched on the edge of the bed and you let out a weary sigh, your hands raising in a wordless gesture before dropping to your lap.

“I… figured I’d try to be festive, carve a pumpkin for the trick or treaters,” you shrugged, pushing up the sleeves of your sweater and gesturing to your left, bandaged arm. “Turns out knives are sharp…. And you… bleed a lot more when you’ve got alcohol in your system.”

“You’d don’t seem drunk?”

“I’m not. It was only a couple glasses of wine.” Your brow furrowed, looking up at her.

“The nurse said something about you falling?”

“Oh…” you ducked your gaze again, the defensiveness fading from you, turning into shame as you felt the tears threating their way into your eyes, “that…”

“Sweetheart…” her voice had that warning hardening to it when she spoke and you let out a sigh, daring to glance up at her.

“Guess I forgot to eat today.”

“You do realize how much pull I have in this hospital, right? I could have a feeding tube in here in minutes.”

Your eyes widened in realization at her words, letting out a small gasp, “oh god! Is he here? I told you I just needed the ride!”

“Turns out we just missed each other.”

“God…” you muttered, burying your face into your hands, “I’m sorry,” you mumbled, “I just didn’t know who else to call, all my friends are probably out partying. I knew you’d at least be able to send a car…”

“Why not go out with your friends? Seems to be better than carving pumpkins home alone.” She asked with nearly a tease and you let out a scoff.

“Didn’t want to be the one dragging the mood down. Things have kinda been crap recently.”

“I told you to try to get out of the house, go out with your friends, maybe meet some new people?”

“Yeah? Go out with my friends in a feeble attempt to distract myself only to come home to an empty house and a cold bed like always, how is that fair?” You snapped back, “when you’re the one who gets to go home to a loving husband while you pretend nothing else is going on.” When you looked up at her Heather could see the tears burning in your eyes, the frustration and anger pooling within them.

“It’s not.” She replied quietly after a moment, “and that’s one of the reasons I put a stop to us. It wasn’t fair to you or your feelings.”

“And to your husband?” You dared to raise a brow, watching the way Heather’s cheeks flushed briefly as she ducked her gaze before swallowing, looking back up to you.

“It wasn’t fair to him either. I guess I always told myself doing things like this was acceptable because there weren’t feelings involved. I never really thought things through before I started falling in love with you.”

“Don’t fucking say that.” You muttered.

“Is it not what you wanted to hear?”

“I wanted a ride home.” You sniffled, wiping away at a stray tear, “my plan for tonight was to finish the fucking pumpkin, drink a bottle of wine and delete your number from my phone so I wouldn’t be able to text you anymore. I swear I tried to move on, but nobody’s you.”

“You know we can’t pick this up again.” She replied in a whisper, feeling the ache deep in her gut.

“I can do whatever I want.” You reminded her, “it’s you that has restrictions, remember?” You wiped away another tear.

“It was never my intent to lead you on like that, I meant to stick to my own rules. I just got so caught up in it before I even realized.”—

“Stop it.” You snapped, “just fucking take me home.” Shoving back the blanket you stood, probably top quickly, the lightheaded-ness shooting through you once again. Heather thankfully, was faster on her feet, hands gently grasping your shoulders and placing you back on the bed, trying not to smirk at the pout on your lips when you looked back up at her with a glare.

“When was the last time you ate?”

“I had a pizza pop for dinner at like, five last night.” You let out a sigh, “I slept through my alarm this morning, had coffee on the way to work, then worked through lunch to make up for being late. I had take out on the way when I sliced myself.”

“So this isn’t some kind of breakup depression effect?”

“No.” You glared at her, “that’s just the crying and the too much wine consumption. Would you stop attempting to lecture me like one of your kids and just take me home. I didn’t want to see you,” your voice started to crumble, “I don’t ever want to see you again.”

“Sweetheart…” she couldn’t help it, her own emotions tearing up inside of her, her hand reaching out to stroke at your cheek.

“How am I supposed to get over you when you’re still in my life? How am I supposed to pretend like you’re a terrible person who did nothing but cause hurt when you’ll drop everything to come be my saviour?”

“If you had been drunk or out at some bar I would’ve just sent a car, but how am I supposed to ignore the fact that you’re in the hospital? I was worried.”

“God I wish it was easier to hate you.” You mumbled, letting out a shaky breath. Heather ignored your comment, instead squeezing at your shoulder,

“C’mon, let’s get you out of here.”

With an arm half wrapped around you to make sure you weren’t going to black out on her, she managed to get you outside and into the car. As expected, the car ride was filled with an awkward silence, a piece of her aching with each sniffle or shaky sigh that escaped from you. Her hand slid across the seat between you and while you did first shift away, focussing your stare out the window, you didn’t shy away when her hand hit yours and she was able to curl your hand in hers, giving it a soft squeeze.

Arriving at your apartment she wasn’t surprised when you tried to shake her off, thanking her for the ride, grumbling when she insisted on walking you inside. You couldn’t really protest considering you were still pretty dizzy and weren’t sure if you’d make it up the stairs in one piece. Once she was sure you could make it down the hall on your own she let go of your arm, watching you slowly teeter toward your bedroom to change. Her eyes swept through the open kitchen and living room, wine glass abandoned on the coffee table, pumpkin half carved on the floor beside it, blood splattered on the side of it and the table, a small pool of it still slick on the floor. She let out a soft sigh, flicking the light on and grabbing a wet cloth from the kitchen before moving through the space, scrubbing up the blood spots and making sure it was all cleaned up properly. She picked up the knife and the wine glass, returning them to the kitchen to wash as well. She figured she’d leave the pumpkin where it was but gathered up the guts and seeds to throw away so they weren’t a rotting stinking mess in the morning.

“You don’t have to do that.” Your mumble came from the end of the hallway and she turned around with a shrug.

“I just wanted to help.” It was barely above a whisper, she knew deep down inside that she should just leave, that you wanted her gone and her sticking around already wasn’t helping, but her even attempting to take care of you was tearing both of you apart inside. “You should eat something, a soda at least, get some sugar into you before bed.”

“Fine.” You grumbled, pushing past her to the pantry to grab a granola bar, “you happy now? You can go.”

When you looked up at her you were surprised to see both sympathy but also hurt in her eyes and your face fell. This entire time you’d been trying to paint her the villain, make yourself hate her because she was the one who ended it, but she’d ended it for both of your sake’s, she ended it to try and hurt as few people as possible. It had somehow never occurred to you that she was one of the hurt people too. That she really had been falling in love with you and she knew that if she didn’t pull herself away from you she’d be causing one massive disaster for everyone involved. That maybe, just maybe she cared about you just as much as you cared about her, that, in another lifetime you would have been meant to be together.

Heather saw the realization wash over you, the way your eyes softened as the anger dissipated from them, your lip trembling the same way it had the day she’d told you it had to be over. She felt what little resolve she had left deteriorating, the adrenaline from earlier, when she hadn’t know what happened to you had faded away. Her fight or flight response had gone from overprotective mode to being gone, leaving her with just her emotions exposed, raw, right on the edge and ready to break her. She knew that you must have been hurting but she really didn’t know to what extent. It made her feel worse, made her want to take it all back, to figure out a way to make it work but that brought up even more guilt, enough to swallow her up whole. As much as she wanted to be with you, she knew that she would never actually be able to fully be with you. She was at a loss for words, instead stepping cautiously toward you until she was close enough to wrap you into her arms, her body wilting at the sound of cries escaping your lips, your body trembling against hers as the tears began to slide down her cheeks.

“I’m sorry…” your voice was muffled into her shoulder, “I’m so sorry.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for.” She whispered back, pressing a feather light kiss to the top of your head and you pulled your face out of the embrace, glancing up at her with watery eyes.

“I never should have told you I loved you, never should have let myself fall in love with you. I knew from the beginning that you were married, that you had a family, you were upfront and honest about it all and I still let myself be an idiot.”

“You don’t let yourself do or not do these kind of things.” She replied, her thumb stroking away your tears, “it just happens. One moment things are normal, and the next you’re filled with butterflies, and it hits you like a sucker punch to the gut because you realize that thing your life has been missing is standing right in front of you and there’s nothing you wouldn’t do to keep them around.”

“Is that what it was like with him?” your voice was barely a whisper, your eyes darting between your feet and Heather’s, not fully wanting to look her in the eye when she responded.

“It wasn’t the only time.” She replied and your gaze shot up to hers, eyes wide at the small smile on her cheeks. The sudden urge to step closer to her, closing the gap between your lips shot through you but you shook yourself out of it, forcing yourself to step back instead. “Sorry.” She muttered quickly, realizing her misstep, “are you going to be okay?”

“Yeah.” You nodded, “you can go. I’m just going to bed.”

“Okay.” She moved around you before pausing to turn back to you, hand squeezing at your shoulder, “don’t delete my number. Car service is far safer than an Uber or a cab, and you never know when you might need a good lawyer.”

“Fine.” You sighed, “but if I drunk dial you it’s your responsibility to block me.”

“You know I won’t.” She replied, a near smirk on her lips as she moved to the door, “and please don’t be afraid to call if you need help, even if it’s just Venmo for some groceries or wine. If I’m the one who’s made you feel hurt the least I can do is foot the bill to help you feel better.”

“You’re being ridiculous but thank you.”

“I do hope you find someone.” She did her best to smile through the tears blurring in her eyes, “you really deserve it, but only someone who’s going to treat you right, and show you off to the world, showering you with love.”

“Heather…”

“Yes?” She felt a flutter in her chest, a glimmer of hope as she glanced back to you and you let out a sigh.

“Go home. To your husband.” You wrapped your arms tighter around your waist, “thank you for picking me up.”

“You’re welcome.” She did her best to not let her voice shake, pulling open the door to your apartment and quickly disappearing through it.

That was the last time you saw Heather Dunbar.

And it was the last time you ever contacted her.

There were some late, lonely nights that left you wondering if she still thought about you, if falling for you had been the wake up call she’d needed and she stopped having affairs. Or if she just continued on, little meaningless flings with meaningless girls. At the very least you knew you hadn’t been one of those, and at the very least, you hoped that whatever she was doing, she was happy. Because she at least deserved that.

Erik looked back on the other side of the court to make sure Sage was okay.

Cam stood there with his mouth wide open. “Damn that bitch a freak. In the parking lot?!? Of McDonald’s?!?! Shitttt you should’ve called a nigga. We could’ve tag teamed that hoe.”

“Nigga please, Terry crazy ass aint finna’ air the clip out on me because you wanted to fuck another bitch. TJ got eyes everywhere on you. Every bitch in Inglewood know you her nigga.They aint finna’ try her or Lana.” Erik said shaking his head and taking his shirt off.

“I swear her crazy ass got a tracking device on my dick. I go into the bathroom she all like ‘Where you takin’ my dick?’ I say I’m going’ to the store she say ‘That bitch bet not be at the store.’ Next thing i know i get to the store she there waitin’ for a nigga. ‘I was just makin sure you came to the same store you always do.’” Like damn I can’t go nowhere without her being there.” Cameron said shaking his head. Erik looked behind Cameron and seen Terry’s car parked in the lot with her looking out the window at them.

“Speak of the devil, she shall appear.” He said nodding his head in the direction. Cameron raised his eyebrow with  confused look on his face.

“Cuz what you talkin’ bout?” He said turning around. “Gotdamn it ! See the shit I mean she crazy.I been gave yo crazy ass my location Terry!”Cameron said walking towards her car. Erik laughed shaking his head at them.

Me in the hospital: i cannot sleep for 24 hours, the slightest noise is blaring, i am perpetually anxiety adrenaline

As soon as i get home: has the best sleep of my life

I usually take an hour to get to sleep each night but i totally just curled up like a snail and dropped into dreamland instantly. And i woke up to a nice warm house cos the heating turned on while i was asleep, and now all the anesthetic is completely worn off so i feel energized and great! And my throat pain has eased up so thankfully i wont have to be liquids only for as long as i thought. I was all hyperactive and cooked a great fancy omelette and it tastes like heaven itself! Its so weird how stuff tastes slightly diffetent when its the first time youve been able to chew with the right side of your mouth in five years. I guess the tastebuds on the sides of your tongue are slightly different? When i eat everything now im gonna be rolling it all over my mouth like WOW ITS ALL SO NEW AGAIN! Will probably look nuts in the middle of mcdonalds with my cheeks puffed like a squirrel XD

Oh man i do feel a bit sleepy again now after just being up for a few hours tho. I have these good jaw pain specific medicines i have to take for the next two weeks til my followup appointment to check if theres any infection left. But man i feel SO ALIVE AGAIN im pretty sure all the rot is gone! It feels so wild having space in my mouth and not constant clenchy tightness. It actually hurts less recovering from the surgery than it did before, lol! I can feel all my teeth moving apart again and loosening up into normality and the gums healing up all their injuries and oh god i just love how they cleaned out all the broken parts of my teeth and capped them with these great replacements that look so real you'd never be able to tell! My smile looks not ugly!! My smile looks not ugly!! Aaaaa! I just expected regaining the right side of my mouth, i didbt expect to e like "holy shit it must have hurt even more than i realized cos this feels so amazing now". Like i guess i got used to putting up with it and forgot how it felt to not have painmouth? Underestimated how good a teeth can be! And man i never asked for reconstructive cosmetic stuff too but they did these caps and aaa my teeth never looked his good even when they were new!! My front teeth were always crooked even before they did the weird balogna slam together and shattered into a pile of crap. And now they look like perfect supermodel teeth!! The only side effect is that its a lil hard to get used to the lack of gaps between them now after so long dealing with the shattered mess. My tongue keeps being like "oh no did something get stuck in the gaps again oh wait there arent any" and then i subconsciously try to clean them after taking every bite and just bite my tongue instead. Man i never noticed i picked up a bunch of weird mannerismd cos of tje bad teeth! I was constantly paranoidly checking my mouth 24/7 in case the slightest thing made it even worse, and eating super gently so that nothing accidentally touched the Wrong Tooth and set off a jolt of pain. And i actually needed to get a filling put in on the leftmost back tooth that was the ONLY TOOTH I COULD USE TO EAT WITHOUT PAIN for all this time! Overuse of it meant that it got ground down a little and probably would have become painful too if i'd left it any longer. Then i really would have been all soups all the time and that sucks!! Soups are good but nothing but then gives u stomach issues. The bad poops!!

Man sorry im rambling so much im just so hyper and happy and also still kinda dopily sleepy! Im not still delirious or anything i just feel the happy kind of sleepy where the anesthetic is all gone and its not "oh god i cant stay awake" and more natural sleepyness of a long day being over and everything being okay. I had such a good long nap and i feel well rested after getting so little sleep beforehand due to all the dumb anxiety. And i still feel dozey but happy doze~

Anyway its awesometo be able to really chug and crunch a foods! With the other side of my mouth i forgot about! And taste milkshake to its fullest extent!! Oh and whats weird is that the reconstructive surgery capping on my front teeth means that theyre kinda one tooth now? The caps are all linked in a single piece to fill the gaps fully without even the natural ones you'd have on healthy teeth. So its like a solid tooth guard just sculpted to look like three teeth. Itll be tricky to train myself out of thts subconcious rubbing the gaps with my tongue when theyre not even there. But i expect once i get over the unfamiliarity this triple cap will be really useful! Theyre totes reinforced so that even if i do get tight mouth problems again and the front teeth take the brunt of the pressure, now theres no gaps to smash into each other and become a painful mess. Its like scaffolding reinforcing my whole mouth by fixing the loadbearing beam, or something.

Oh also these pain meds make u a little bit more sleepy than normal paracetamol so i'll probably doze off again soon. But hopefully i will have slept off most of the "healing debt exhaustion" tomorrow and will be able to go walk down the shops and buy some icecream and other soft food. I mostly stocked up on purely liquid food cos i tjought my mouth function would be more limited. But honestly the teeth are working so much better than before, they were already so swollen and painful that i couldnt crunch stuff! Now the mild discomfort of mid-healing from surgery feels like barely anything and i bet i could bite thru a goddamn rock right now! I just cant really swallow crunchy stuff or stuff thats too salty or citrusy. I didnt even know about the stabbity throat pipe so i didnt expect it to be the most painful part that takes the longest to heal. It feels so weird cos i keep coughing like my brain thinks theres phelgm stuck in my throat when its actually a skin flap/blister from the insertion. So obviously that aint going anywhere and i have to try and force myself not to cough or swallow or else i set off this cjain of "must get thing out of throat must puke" reflex. And the pain feels like a sore throat but it isnt?? Its not really inflamed ot anything its just an actual friction burn on the opening of my airway. Which is not a common occurance so the brain is justvlike "what the fuck is happening, must send all contradicting signals at once!" So sore throat medicine wont work cos that goes down your throat passage to your stomach when really this lil skin tag blister thing is in the lung throat opening thing. And sucking on throat sweets made it worse cos all the muscles were really tense around the area where the tube was inserted, hence why it was hard to swallow food even tho it was my windpipe that hurt. And sucking on something is kinda like perpetually swallowing nothing, when you think about it? Im glad that the muscle tenseness is mostly gone now and the painkillers are helping with the ouch, and my brainis getting usedto not coughing and making it worse. But still should eat soft easily swallowable stuff for a lil while and it'll be fun to go aroundthe shops with my last pocketful of change and find neat ingredients to stick in omelettes. Im so excited to taste all my favourite things in new HD functional mouth power!!! And i can smile at the shopkeeper!!!

And oh man i really do think that my sleeping problems with stiff neck and that kind of 'bloodrush to the head' migraine were indeed part of the bad wisdom teeth bleeding internally under the gum. I thought it had to be that cos nothing else in my life changed around that time aside from getting a better and healthier bed which should have been beneficial to my neck. And even going back to sleepong on the floor like before didnt make a difference so it definately wasnt the bed! And it kept getting worse while nothing was changing, and i kept trying different things like changing my pillows and headphones and cutting caffeine out of my diet and eating more salt and eating less salt and fuckin ANYTHING ELSE cos i knew if it really was the dumb tooth being infected then there was nothong i could do about it til my surgery day arrived. Itd be such a relief to know for sure that it was indeed the tooth and now that nonsense is gonna be gone forever! But also thats really worrying to know that it was getting so bad it could have spread an infection to my jawbone and the top of my spine if itd been left much longer. I kept sneezing up blood lumps like the size of a fifty pence piece! Had never had nosebleeds for a decade and now suddenly all the time! God it feels so good to be able to lay my head down and not feel all woozy and tense im the forehead or neck. I really hope this good neck untenseness continues and the awful aches really were just the tooth. But everyone in the hospital was so nice that i think even if i do need a second surgery to check for jaw infection then id be able to be less nervoud than i was this time

Man do u ever get that thing where youre so peaceful and contented that like you can breathe easier? Like subconciously taking bigger breaths and the middle of your chest feels slightly puffed out and warm. I guess thats what the "heart leaping in yout chest" idiom is meant to refer to, lol! Or maybe i can just literally breathe easier cos the tooth pain might have been passing into my nasal cavity too, lol. My entire head feels so less tense!! Its like all my bones were rebelling against me and now they're at peace again!! Man i feel so giddy happy like i chugged a giant energy drink or something but its the opposite its a good sleeps drink XD

So im gonna go lie down again and have a relax and watch a movie or something and see if i pass out when the medicine kicks in, or if its not too bad and i can still continue my hyper mood. But my nap was so long that its too late to go to the shops now anyway so i'll just make more plain omelette and milkshake if i get hungry. I mean it doesnt taste plain when all my sense of taste is so amplified likethis! I dont mind if its all i can eat all week. PURE MILKSHAKEY DECADENCE

Aaaaa im just so happy!! I missed my chance to get the new. Kingdlm hearts but ive beenwaiting fkr this surgery for ages too and it feels like just as much of an exciting relief!

I just saw a cat fight and im here watching all of this, like dammn, i should stream this and charge.

My boss sucks at her job, she aint a bad person but when it comes to run a business she is stupid and dense.

To keep her business afloat she tries to hire the most cheap workforce available to keep costs low, but since she also sucks at sales and creating leads, the only thing she thinks will attract customers are discounts. But the thing is.... With discounts you only attract people that will buy at discount. Never full price.

The value of her brand is relative on how close to being free it is.

Her brand is totally worthless.

But to gain "exposure" she lends the garments for free for editorials.

Common practice is rent the outfits at a fraction of the price, charge dry clean fee ,or making a deposit as insurance, as a way to make a little profit or at least prevent and fix damages to the garments... do you see the problem???

So what she sells its lower than the cost, garments keep getting damaged and fixed out of pocket. And even after all of that requires "couture quality in the garments and everything personalized" but she wont pay on time.

Everything got even worse in lockdown

My coworker has been fighting her since September to get payed, the debt has been piling up and tolerance is getting lower by the day.

I've been longer there than my coworker, but i'm there not to get payed. I worked on a previous job with my boss and i know how she was. Her strength is networking. She knows everyone that can get you to anyone important.

Im there to steal all her contacts and develop my portfolio. Im 3/4 there, im ready to quit tbh, but in good terms.

My coworker on the other hand, didnt know this. But I assured my boss that the payment of my coworker was priority over mine in case of short sales (which is always).

Apparently that wasnt enough. Debt had been piling up and she has been accepting fishy jobs to get money in. All of them have been scams and now her debt is worse that ever. I wouldnt know really, i told them not to bother me till this pandemic is over. (My boss owes me money so she aint taking the chances of me collecting, woo!)

My coworker on the other hand.... Oh gee, oh boy, she has been working all lockdown, she's fuuuuuuuuucked... But also a lil dumb since she does freelance outside the company that actuly pays her, she could've leave.

Being in debt can turn into a vicious cycle pretty fast, and having angry employees is not great for the brand monetarily either, she has not being payed, and now its been boiling since she developed health issues that require surgery and now she need to pay for a funeral, rip.

My boss escaped to other state, so my co worker is keeps calling me and begging me to make the boss pay her since i've been with her longer. But i know for a fact that my boss has been living in the negatives for at least 6 months before the pandemic. I would've warm my coworker, but i only saw her literally once before going into lockdown and didnt knew she was going to work with us.

So now there is this message group where we could communicate in case we got a job big during lockdown, didnt happen, so i was completely oblivious.

Today my coworker send a message in that chat to demamd payment with me as a witness basically. My boss was filling the chat with BS excuses, basically saying that her mom wasnt paying her in her fastfood job, so she couldn't pay us... But we are a fashion brand??? And she is using her mom as a shield which is hilarious.

My coworker is baffled since we dont have anything to do with her mom, or fast food??? The whole group chat is basically:

CW:"give me my money"

B: "no im poor as shit, my mom cant sell fast food i camt pay you"

CW: "i aint working fast food, pay me my money"

B: "all my family is poor, i can't ask them for money. Not even the one thats an UBER drivee"

CW: " i aint working for your mom nor your family, im working for you. Im sick and i need my money"

After that a shower of bank statements in $0 spams the whole chat, which is hilarious. But my coworker showers the chat back with all of my bosses "I'll pay u tomorrow texts"

And im here eating popcorn, cause it ain't my problem and i have not power( or intension) to solve it. Im just a bystander in all of this that really has not idea how to.get out of this.

All in all, both are in a money limbo which is kinda sad, but they keep annoying me sooooo IDGAF. Im laughing at them in how childish my boss is with my coworker giving RECEITS. 🍵

HERE WE GO

Ok. Worked out, cleaned my room, paid credit card payment, paid rent, posted my probably-wont-make-progress-but-maybe progress picture, and smoked a bowl. My body is ready.

So I was talking about what happened around the time Dea and I broke up recently with a friend, and made me think that it’s been awhile since i’ve sorted through it. Figured why not put as much as I can remember down ~a year and a half later.

Buckle up buttercup,This gonna be looooooooong.

My order of things might be a little muddled, there was a lot going on at the same time.

So let’s back up to before we actually broke up!

For about a year prior I was getting real stressed out about my job. I was in a customer service position working for her Dad actually. He owned a Diesel shop, and had a Company owner in Italy who he was buddies with. Marco (italy guy), asked him to set up a place in the US to service his customer base.

I was going to college at the time, and decided I didn’t want to pass up a really interesting opportunity. I’m mostly glad I did. Anyway, I dropped out to work full time here and ended up making some good money. Most of what I did was answer phone calls and help people solve issues (99.9% of the time they caused) . At some point we started going to trade shows, and that was super super fun. I would fly out, set up a pop up tent and the whole shebang.

I was also sent to Mexico two different times for something similar. Except this one, it was with our distributor who was huge. They took their top 100 dealers on a “land cruise” (used to be an actual one, but they do resorts now), and about 25 manufacturers would pay ~20k to fund and attend this. During 3 of the 6 days, the 100 dealers would be set up at tables or 5. Basically think of speed dating. We’d each go around and give a 30 minute pitch about our product to these guys, answer questions, etc. I believe it was 4-5 hours each of the 3 days. You’d think an introvert like me would have a hard time with that, but it was actually a BLAST.

So what was the issue with the job?

Two big things. Dea’s dad (Rip), and a co worker of mine. I worked with a buddy of mine Adam, and he was fantastic. But we had this other co worker who was an old hick from Idaho (buddy of Rip’s) who was to handle our forum and some online stuff. For most of the time I worked with him it was fine. At some point he got really nasty. We had our own forum going on, and a buddy of his helped set it up for us. There were a lot of stupid things that happened surrounding that.

So eventually he’s outright hurling insults at me basically daily on the private side of this form (for a WHILE), and Rip wouldn’t do shit about it. On top of that, Rip had his own shitshow of a shop to run on top of it, and he’s old and tired. But he wouldn’t really give us the autonomy we needed so we could prioritize and get things done with what we had. We can’t be expected to try to learn fucking SEO while answering calls, updating the website, doing sales etc etc infinity fucking etc. Too much do be done with two people, and it was all expected to be done.

Eventually I was donezos, sent him a longwinded 2000 word email about exactly what I had problems with and why i was leaving (prob still have it).

So during the culmination of my work bullshit, that’s when Dea and I’s problems are starting to come to a crossroad. To be completely fair with myself, this was a long time coming. Tbh not sure exactly how long, but it probably should have been over before this went down.

We’ve always had communication problems. I think fundamentally we just don’t understand each-other well. Sure we both could have pointed out a lot of habits and what each would have done in certain situations, things we liked. But that’s not really the type of understanding i’m talking about.

The first time I realized something might happen is when she asked me about how I felt about polyamory. It’s something I had thought about before, because other women are definitely attractive. But with how long we’d been together, I knew it would bring up a lot of really jealous feelings that wouldn’t be pretty. So when she asked, I answered pretty matter-of-factly that it wasn’t going to work for me.

Looking back she was watching a lot of shows about poly life around this time, fun tidbit.

I wouldn’t say this answer upset her necessarily....but she was clearly idk, put off? Maybe disappointed.

IIRC she eventually asked again, and my answer remained the same. I think this was what spurred the discussion of “I don’t know if this what I want”. I did know what I wanted. She didn’t. What else can I do but wait until she does figure it out? I’m not that type of person that’s going to try and influence her. I could have tried to convince her she would be happy if she stayed or some bullshit. I loved her, and if not being with me is the way it needs to be? Them’s the breaks. I was also so SO tired emotionally. I had nothing left to give at that point.

So she breaks up with me. I think I left to walk to 7-11 at this point, because I needed a break. I don’t actually remember that well. I wasn’t around her right then, regardless. Maybe we were in our room when we broke up. Anyway Not that long after she breaks up with me(5 mins, half hour?), she’s crying and didn’t want to break up.

And of course I didn’t either. That lasted about a month, and she does it for real. Now here’s where the fun stuff started!

Sometime before or shortly after this I found out my Mom has an autoimmune disease that will kill her sooner or later. It’s very possible this is what her contributed to her mom dying when I was 8. So scary stuff yeah?

I quit my job, because FUCK that noise. It was too much.

I stayed living in the same house, but different room. Big mistake. I trusted her ability to communicate too much. Not that mine was stellar (we’ll get into this).

My parents divorce. Which hey, go be happy Mom! Again, sorry Dad, them’s the breaks. Happened to me to not even a month prior. But no, they both decided to be giant shitters. I think my Mom definitely did worse things to him, and to the family. He definitely said some nasty shit too though.

My mom decides to encourage my dad to go visit some family in Ohio (maybe he was thinking about it already? he reconnected with them recently at this point). By the time he comes back, she has a “friend” staying in the house. I feel like she said he was just staying for a while. Well my dad aint dumb, and this is the guy that has been in love with my mom forever, apparently.

She lied to the family a bunch, introduced my sisters kid to Frank even though she SPECIFICALLY told her not to. Her fucking kid’s grandparents split up. Shes like 7 for fucks sake. My sister was LIVID. Like didn’t let my mom see her granddaughter for many months livid. It’s hard to get that trust back. On top of lying to my sister plenty etc etc.  I don’t even want to get into frank right now.

So here I was, jobless (had $$ tho tbf), freshly broken up with, super fucking depressed, stuck in the middle of my parents bullshit when i don’t even have enough for myself (and i’m a grown ass fucking adult too)[[, and just generally lost. Really really lost.

Very shortly after we broke up, Jordan (the good friend he is), decides to try and set up a guys night for me at john’s house (jordan lived with karis at this point). Of course the bros say “hell yeah!” as they are wonderful. We invite Dex too, because why not?

The time rolls around, Jordan can’t go. Dex does show up at some point. Here’s what happened: Dea was really hurt because people were all getting together to make me feel better, i guess? I don’t remember the wording but....i think she felt like nobody was being her friend in that moment I guess? It was her home alone. And for context we got together every saturday for years pretty much, so I do kinda get it. She was also actually pretty mad at Dex because he showed up. She didn’t invite ANYBODY to do anything. So Jordan had to stay with Karis to comfort her, basically.

Like dude. YOU broke up with me. I get it was also really hard for you too, but put the shoe on the other foot for a goddamned second and consider how I felt in all this. Also consider I didn’t set any of this up. Also consider that you didn’t tell anybody that you needed a friend. I did. Don’t get mad at us for this, fuck.

Here’s where the “this-is-why-i-shoulda-moved-out” happens.

The last and final fuck you was the day I went to get the rest of my shit. BEFORE the time on the notice, the locks were changed. Here I am, at 8 in the morning with a U haul we rented, and we can’t get in the house to get my stuff. What. The. Flying. Fuck.

I sure as shit wasn’t going to talk to Dea at ALL at this point, so I called him and he came down. And he sat there the entire time waiting for us and doing bills. Jesus fuck dude. Like, you think i’m gonna murder your daughter or something ffs?

I think I got most of it. I’ve got some stuff with my current living situation, but it’s really peanuts compared to everything else. I‘m also like, idk fairly happy right now too in general so. I’ve grown a lot, and that gives me some comfort.
