We debuted these at Katsucon 2013 cause we’re dorks and we couldn’t resist. We also had Glitterati at that con but we thought Icon Crew would look so good with the group we had (ALSO SO OUT OF PLACE LOL). We couldn’t wear them for too too long through because 1.) they were kind of hard to see out and 2.) they were FRICKIN’ HOT.

But they were super fun all the same and we were so glad we pulled them together. We miss Dance Central. <3

I wanna infodump abt the critters in my au so here-

* Hoppy is Australian

* Kickin and Picky have southern accents

* Hoppy is on the volleyball team

* Kickin is on the soccer team

* Hoppy and Kickin race to school and class everyday

* Dogday is a social butterfly and the leader of the friend group

* Picky is the (sorta) mean older sister friend

* Bobby is the sweet mother friend

* Hoppy is the shortest while Bubba is the tallest of the friend group, Bobby is the second tallest

* Bubba is most likely to snap someday, either from pressure to maintain his grades or from keeping his friends from getting in trouble for the shit the pull

* Crafty is a huge Hatsune Miku stan and has a cosplay of her, she also knows how to sew and dance but she mainly dances in private

* Catnap and Crafty can sit together in silence for hours and not be bored

* Dogday has a crush on Catnap but the cat is oblivious

* Picky’s mother is a home baker

* Kickin and Bubba are deathly scared of spiders and mice

* Bobby has a wattpad profile where she posts very fluffy love stories

* Catnap is selectively mute and rarely speaks and Dogday is the person he talks to the most and also is the one who understand him

* Craftycorn and Catnap have autism, they both are on different sides of the spectrum. Dogday and Hoppy have ADHD. Hoppy was diagnosed earlier than Dogday

* Bubba and Crafty were childhood best friends, often times he lets her know what social cues she’s missing and basically acting like a big brother for her

* Kickin has a birth defect which basically makes him look like a chick (his feathers are forever yellow) which makes him look younger in comparison to his brothers

* Hoppy has 9 other siblings, she’s the youngest out of all of them

* Picky is an only child but shares a sisterly bond with Craftycorn, often accompanying her to conventions in a simple cosplay of applejack or Jessie from Toy Story

* Everyone knows about Dogday’s feelings for Catnap, except Catnap. They all agreed to not talk about as to not upset Dogday or rush him

* Dogday has an older sister, who used to practice makeup on him when he was a child. So if you ask her kindly she will be more than happy to show you a picture of toddler Dogday with glittery eyeshadow and lipstick making a duck kissy face.

* Catnap lives with his adopted father, who is pretty laid back and lets Catnap live his own life. He’s also very exhausted from work but will still listen to Catnap if he’s having some trouble

* The red lines under Catnap’s eyes aren’t eyeliner, nor is the cross on his forhead

LEVI IS A SMART COOKIE — HEADCANONS (AND APPRECIATION?)

🐟 Let’s start stating the obvious: he is hella smart. He’s an Admiral, he had to study and work hard for it! He might be shy and socially awkward, but we can’t invalidate his entire personality just because he actually says “ROFL” out loud. A person (or demon, in this case) can be goofy and smart — one doesn’t cancel out the other.

🐟 That settled, here is what I think about it:

🐟 From strongest to weakest (and to make things easier), I’d rank his intelligences: visual-spatial, logical-mathematical, verbal-linguistic, naturalistic, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, intrapersonal and interpersonal.

🪸 Visual-spatial: he needs to be good at it if he’s gonna navigate. He barely leaves his room, but he’s got the whole Devildom mapped out in his head. He can walk blindfolded and still be able to arrive at RAD or anywhere he needs to go.

🪸 Logical-mathematical: he has an insanely good strategic mind. You think he’s an Admiral just because he’s one of the Seven Lords? He’s got serious skills in what he does, or it wouldn’t have worked out.

🪸 Verbal-linguistic: he might have a hard time speaking to new people, but he has good communication once he trusts you enough. He can be assertive when he needs to and, again, he has to be able to communicate when he’s commanding his crew. And he’s a really good writer.

🪸 Naturalistic: he loves animals! He looked at a giant snake and decided it was a good friend. He has Henry 2.0 for who knows how long and he takes such good care of him. For me, he loves the ocean, from both the Human and the Demon World. He is a sea serpent demon, so he can swim with all sorts of creatures, learning about them along the way. Sometimes, he even feels a connection to those deep-sea dwellers — living in the dark, solitary depths. (you’re welcome for the angst thought)

🪸 Bodily-kinesthetic: he has good coordination and no one can convince me otherwise. He likes to learn the choreographies of his favorite idols. I think he can learn it pretty fast, and he can teach it easily if you want to learn it too. Now you can dance together and it’s wholesome. Not to mention, he still is a demon and #3 in their power rank. He didn’t get that number randomly. Also, he can sew his own cosplays; he needs good coordination for sewing.

🪸 Musical: he learned about music for his pleasure. He is good at listening to the slight change in rhythm, so he knows exactly when to do a certain move when he’s dancing and all the cues when he’s singing. He will annoy you if you sing it 0.02 seconds earlier. He can play the keyboard and probably the drums.

🪸 Intrapersonal: his self-esteem is not good (we just need to help him a little), but I think he has a deep comprehension of himself. He knows what he likes and dislikes, how he’ll react when something happens and how to deal with his own outbursts. Understanding and putting it into practice, however, aren’t always the same, and that’s where emotions take the lead (hence why it’s intelligence #7). That’s when he summons Lotan.

🪸 Interpersonal: do I need to say something? I love my boy, but he has a hard time meeting new people and that's fine too.

It's a little fic (that I'll post on ao3 later, when I'm awake and cosplaying as a functioning human) and that is very cleverly (not really) titled...

A Pirate's Life For Me

Billy's always known he wasn't lucky in life and this, right here, is the culmination of it all.

Not even two months at sea, working his ass off for a meager pay in the hopes of earning enough to exstinguish the debts his father and Chrissy's father put on their shoulders before dying, and his ship gets captured by pirates.

Worse: captured by the Dread Pirate Roberts, who has a reputation as a great swordman and a ruthless bastard who doesn't leave survivors.

Billy did his best in the fight, but he's just a farm boy turned deck swabber, his swordmanship goes very little further than "the handle goes into your hand, the pointy part goes inside the enemy". So now he's kneeling, hands raised, on the deck of the Panthaira, along with the rest of the surviving crew and passengers.

Well, with all the survivors except Captain Loman, who's huddled against the main mast. The Dread Pirate Roberts is crouched in front of the captain and talking to him in a low voice while the captain clearly draws his last breaths, shirt painted a vivid red with the blood gushing from the puncture wounds in his chest. Loman was a petty tyrant, so Billy is not exactly bawling his eyes out at the prospect of the captain being gone soon. It's just the principle of the thing that counts. The Panthaira has been captured, and, to put it mildly, Billy is fucked.

There are too many pirates keeping them under threat of more stabbing, and also no damn place to go even if he were able to escape the ship. They're in the middle of the ocean, nothing but water in every direction for hundred if not thousands of miles.

So Billy stays where he is.

And looks either at the back of the Dread Pirate Roberts or at the slow rising and falling of Loman's chest.

He waits and hates how his arms are getting heavier and heavier by the second. Soon, he'll be dead and, back home, Chrissy will have to mourn her best friend too, not just her parents.

Captain Loman's chest at last goes still and Roberts extends a careful, gloved hand to close the man's unseeing eyes, before turning towards his prisoners in one swift, elegant movement.

Robert's dressed all in black and wearing a mask, just like the stories say. He has long brown hair tied in a low pony tail, and dark eyes that sweep the crew and passengers of the Panthaira like he can weigh the wort of each of them with just one look.

Billy lets his hands fall down, tired of this charade. If he's gonna die anyway, what good comes from obeying? Might as well die with some feeling left in his arms.

Someone shouts at Billy to raise his hands again and he just ignores him. Roberts is walking their way, his steps slow and his attention pointedly fixed on cleaning blood off the blade of his sword.

Somewhere behind Billy, a woman starts weeping. One of the crew members pleads for his life. Another offers all the money he's got to be spared.

Bunch of cowards.

Roberts stops in front of Billy, ignores everyone else.

"You're not pleading," he says in such a voice and cold tone that the people around them fall silent, too scared of what's happening.

"I don't plead."

"Aren't you scared, boy?"

"To death."

Roberts grins. It makes the moles on his cheek dance.

"Should I bestow on you the sweet mercy of death, then, or not?"

Billy licks his lips and grins back.

"You should let me live, sir."

"And why should I make an exception?"

That's the true problem. Both Billy and Roberts know it, judging by the predatory look in his eyes.

Why, indeed.

"True love?" Billy tries.

Roberts laughs.

"She must be an exceptional lay, to make you believe someone will let you live only so that you'll be able to bed her again!"

"Wouldn't know, I've never wanted to fuck my best friend. Is there truest, purest love than the one that's never been tainted by lust or carnal needs?"

The Dread Pirate Roberts laughs even more and then shakes his head.

"Unbelievable," he says in a stage whisper. "What's your name, boy?"

"Billy."

"Well, Billy, I find myself in sudden need of a personal attendant." Roberts pauses for a beat, cocks his head to the side. Predatory is now an understatement for the look in those dark eyes. "Do a good job and one day you'll be able to return home to your best friend. Do a bad job, and your friend will never see you again. Are you interested in the position?"

Billy grits his teeth and never lets his gaze waver from Roberts.

The decision is so simple he doesn't even need to think about it. He nods and Roberts smiles.

Billy doesn't know what's in his future, but he'll do all he can to survive whatever Roberts throws his way and then return home. His best friend is waiting for him.

His dad passed away when he was young and he never really got to know his dad's side of the family

Spent most of the week at his grandparent's house because his mom worked a lot

His sisters used to dress him up in dresses, do his makeup, etc and

Is very secure in his masculinity + feminine expression as a result

Prefers rugby to soccer

Worked odd construction jobs from the age of 13 until he enlisted

His dad was Jamaican and his mom is white British

Has a Pinterest where he saves nothing but outfit ideas and recipes for snacks to share with the 141

Is the deepest sleeper ever

Loves caramel and chocolate together

His favorite sweet is an Aero peppermint chocolate bar

Is a great dancer + often goes to dance studios

Also wishes he had the time to join an actual dance crew

Even though he isn’t close with his dad’s side of the family, he wants to go to Jamaica and see where his family is from

Had a pregnancy scare with his gf when he was 18

The experience made him realize that while he definitely wants kids, he only wants them if he was out of the military and could be there for them every day.

Is annoyingly good at battle royale and shooter type games, despite the fact that he far prefers cozier games like Breathe of the Wild or Pokemon

Barin: while he didn’t see what was in the bucket, he did see the bully begin to tip it. Thinking it was just punch or something, barin dips his SO under him to take the hit, resigning himself to his fate. He’s sputtering in disgust though when the blood hits him. Then his bloodthirsty little brother jumps the guy.

Arwin: so, you have chosen death? For a moment he legitimately thought that SO had been hurt. So arwin does what he always does in a fight: he pushes barin to SO to protect them, then jumps SOs attacker. Nobody dares try to separate them until arwin gets a few good hits in first. It’s well known to never get between a fell Drake and their fight. Arwin only stops if SO or Barin calls him off

Tempo: he doesn’t hesitate, he just grabs SO and shortcuts home. No words or nothing. They land in the shower together, and depending on how far of a jump that was, tempo is either fussing over SO worried, or he’s slumped against the shower wall exhausted lol. Either way he’s concerned about SOs state right now

Vibrato: he lets out a movie worthy horrified scream. Mettaton would’ve praised vibrato for the emotional tone of it if he wasn’t ordering SOs bully out of the party. One really shouldn’t mess with the SO of vibrato, the upcoming star who’s been basically adopted by the metta crew. That’s just asking for a lawsuit.

Cider: oh hell to the no! Cider is seeing red, and before the bully can start mocking his SO too, he swings with a nasty right hook, breaking the bully’s nose. Cider and the jerk have to be pulled apart by two rather burly monsters in order to break up the fight. He’ll feel guilty later for not checking up on his SO first

Barley: he’s most likely drunk off his *ss if this is the kind of party he’s used to going to. So when he and SO are clumsily dancing together, and they both get doused by the blood, he shrieks thinking he’s been turned into a human and starts sobbing on SOs shoulder about how he isn’t ready to have his first period. SO is too busy drunkenly comforting the train wreck that is wasted barley to even realize they were the target

Finn: he heroically pushes SO out of the way when he sees the bucket beginning to tilt. Poor Finn is now covered in blood. He gives his attacker his best glare…. Then promptly bursts into tears. He can’t muster up the anger and is just sad and humiliated instead. Every one with a heart is giving the bully a death glare I’m sure. Finn is well loved after all.

Sails: it’s a party. There’s no doubt he’s high as a kite right now. So when sails sees his SO all red, he tilts his head confused and asks what they’re trying to cosplay. Naturally of course he gets yelled at too, and he’ll be super mad when he learns what actually happened. Nobody bullies his SO! Sails will leave rotten fish in their car later at night.

Lush: he gives the coldest smile known to monster kind as the temperature of the room practically drops. Any monster or human weaker to him is quaking in fear at his aura blasting at full force. Even his SO is looking at lush wide eyed, too stunned to even be mad at the blood. Lush “sweetly” tells the bully that they’re gonna pay his SO a ridiculous amount of gold in retribution. Bully is too cowed to do anything but nod.

Pepper: he saw the bully approaching from practically a mile away. As a fellow b*tch, pepper is an expert at spotting other b*tchy characters lol. Before they can reach SO, he does a well timed kick to bully’s ankle, making them trip and spill the blood all over themselves. Then pepper points and laughs like the bully he is

Question: when you photograph someone/something, do you have any trouble enjoying/being aware of what you're seeing?

I am wording poorly here. When I am taking a video of a performer, it's almost like I'm working so hard to keep them in frame and following them, that I don't really see what they're doing. I have to watch the video (or see the photo) later to be able to internalize what they were doing.

To note, I am in no way professional. It's just me videoing them because they asked me to or because I asked if I could video them for reference. I'm guessing since you're a professional, you can be both aware of what you're photographing and what the subject is doing.

I don't think it takes me out of the moment, personally. I can't say what its like for video because I don't do video, but for stills I still get the thrill of watching the performance.

I think part of it is that as a dancer myself I'm feeling the performer's excitement. I can't be part of the performance myself but the urge to participate is very strong. Taking photos is the best way for me to contribute to the performance without being in the way.

I also feel like I'm bonding with the dance community in a unique way. That one performance I did at Dayton Pride- there was someone taking photos with a nice camera, and tons of people had their phones out to take photos.

They are... nowhere on the internet. Just... gone. Can't find them. The person didn't leave a card, they weren't officially hired by the event, they didn't post on social media or if they did they didn't tag them with the event. The only evidence of that performance is the video that one of our crew took. That's all I got.

Performers LOVE photos of themselves performing. And people like taking photos of people performing. But people don't show the photos... to the performers. This goes with cosplay at conventions, I've noticed, as well.

So I make it my business, wherever I'm capturing photo for whoever I'm capturing photo for, I leave a card or I talk to the person in charge or I at the very least get a pamphlet to see if I can find them on Facebook and tag them to make sure it gets seen.

The 'I'm Helping' overrides the 'FOMO.'

But also, with stills you can put the camera down for the slow parts and just know the music cues that tell you The Moment is coming and pick it up when the key change comes in.

I've been falling head over heels in love with Strange New Worlds recently, and finally got to 'Subspace Rhapsody'. A few things that mark its greatness.

- Dancing Enterprise. Lovely, inspired. If Busby Berkley did sci-fi.

- Kirk thinking the crew had rehearsed the first number, as if they'd practised it all just for him. Perfect. Total Shatner.

- Pike and Pelia doing a little jig once the threat's over. Don't know whether it was scripted or improv-ed, but it's another example of the show's keen eye for little grace notes.

- Finally, most important, the show-stopper at the end is totally replicable. No complex choreography, just jazz hands and a bit of shimmying. This is an episode that could be a gateway for newcomers and kids, and if they want to cosplay it or replicate what they saw, they could do so without any problem.

CATS Suncoast Broadway Dinner Theatre - Hudson, FL (with Pics)

Thanks to Suncoast Broadway Dinner Theatre for renting our set and having us for the past two weeks in the Junkyard. It's always a delight working with Chaz, and we got to know an incredible cast and crew. I'm not sure how many hashtags I can use so I am going to include the cast list here for pics that arrive since all of you are so talented at Tumblr (the cast is so intrigued by Superfans, btw!)

We had many challenges with a dinner theatre because the stage is very small in order to accommodate tables. As well, actors serve patrons so I needed to design an outfit to protect the costumes and suspend disbelief. And from patron reactions, we've been told this is one of the best openings, if not the best opening, and the best show/costume the theatre has had to date and hoped we'd be back, which was very, very kind of them.

Mungojerrie/Macavity split track, played by Andre Spathelf-Sanders and yeah, this jerk who keeps showing up. I adore the whole cast to bits truly but we're planning on cosplaying Green Lantern together and he was the first to get my "Archer" references in the make up classes. If it's ever of interest, I'm happy to sometime talk about my make up classes and what to do when there are "mistakes" with what I call the Bob Ross Method.

Demeter by Iraya Catalina is making an argument that maybe all Demeters need to be Filipino because she slays!

Jennyanydots and her incredibly supportive husband. She was one of the most delightful people to work with, hilarious, fun, loving, amazing hugs, and just a joy. I've never had a Jenny almost refuse to take the Gumbie suit off (which is a huge compliment). What a joy.

David was the make up designer for all of the designs except Bombalurina's, and I taught about 5-hours of make up classes.

The magic of an incredible LED screen came into play as there were cool effects, such as a first person POV of a cat going to the junkyard (bringing YOU into the show) and the sky changing with the hours of the day, the moon, everything. The lighting designer Dalton Hamilton was wonderful and provided the following photographs. All costumes designed/created by David and myself (The Costume Asylum/Siegert Creative):

Each passing day, I become more and more of that "how do you do fellow young people" meme, I swear.

Not sure how long it'll take to get back because I got 2 hours of sleep last night, flew in, and today is a "fuck it, let's order dominos" day. ... but... ordering dominos... is hard. moving is hard. falling down the stairs... easier than anticipated. 0/10 do not recommend.

Attended another (anime/k-pop themed) battle last night, and this time I figured I'd try cosplaying Drossel! Since my best dancing tends to come out when I'm wearing him c: and I think it worked because I was really happy with my round! <3 So if I get the chance to battle again you will almost definitely see him return :P

I had to leave early because I overexerted </3 But it was still a blast! Big shoutout as always to the studio and the crew for hosting 🙏✨ I always have such a great time in the local dance community 💙

Last day at MCM was less tiring somehow...

Yes we got up also at 6am to get ready (still in full Laudna cosplay for me) but it was WORTH IT because when we arrived at ExCel, fully expecting a long queue already, they were just letting people walk into the main stage ! And so we got very nice seats for the Critical Role panel.

The ambiance was incredible, we sat for 3 hours just waiting, but it didn't feel like 3 hours at all. The guy warming up the audience was pretty good : aside from the spontaneous dance party (amazing in itself), at one point he was running everywhere to play "who here went from the farthest end of the planet to see this panel ?" (the girl from New Zealand won), and the best part was when he got people to dance on the stage (French Scanlan if you see this you were amazing, I told you so after).

And the panel happened, and my goodness. It went over so quickly !!! Because they took time answering the questions precisely, and each adding a little something. We got to see Laura seemingly very excited at the idea of a Jester and Fjord wedding one-shot, possibly with Artagan as her maid of honor, possibly under the sea with everyone as mermaids ?? !! Who knows, but I WANT IT NOW

And then the 2nd best part of the day was the Critter meet-up. THERE WERE SO MANY AWESOME COSPLAYS !!! I don't know how or when or even where or if the group photos will ever emerge, we were so many it seems impossible to take one photo. But I was there, Gandalf. I was there somewhere on the picture. And then we did group photos !!! By campaigns first, and then it was much more chaotic as we gathered into character groups. Meeting all the Laudnas was amazing, there were so many variations, and I fell in love with each of them ; and there even one Pâté ! We also did a photo with the Imogens, and the added the Fearnes (Witchy Bitches !!), and then again the Laufnas with 1 Delilah. There were other groups happening all around us : the Mollymauks lying on the ground all around 1 Lucien, the Chaos Crew group, the Calebs & Esseks... All and all an amazing experience, that makes me regret the other ones that happened on Friday and Saturday.

And then it was time for a last browsing of the alleys, and the goodbyes... By some miracle, we found the Critter who was with us at our hostel, in the train ! It was meant to be.
