Okay, here’s one more poem because I know how much you loved the last few. 😜 Again, this is circa 2002 so it’s old and I was young. It’s about how everyone’s screaming to be unique to the point where we (ironically) end up boring (aka the same) - but it’s fine as long as we’re still liked and accepted. At least, I believe that’s what this poem meant. I’m thinking “back in the day” I wanted to say something profound like that. 😂

Regardless, 20 years later, we still live in a hyper-individualistic society that’s been exasperated by social media. …and for what? “Likes” & “❤️’s”? 🙄 Ahhh, irony. It’s funny how things never change. (Technology, aside). This is just one example of many. Anyway, I feel like this is a perfect time for some gen Z to roll their eyes and call me a boomer and for me to correct them that I’m actually gen X. Big fucking difference, kids! I’m not fucking 60. Get your generations right. 😝

But, I digress…

My point here is that history is constantly repeating itself. Society never learns. Does this mean we should all say “fuck it” and throw in the towel? No. Not quite, but maybe we can stop doing the same thing over and over while expecting the same results. Perhaps this is why so many are depressed? (See: Einstein’s definition of insanity.) Maybe we can stop comparing ourselves? Maybe we can stop finding things that keep us constantly segregated, alone and disconnected. Maybe we can listen and appreciate others ideas for what they are without constantly criticizing. Maybe we all don’t need to agree but still make decisions for the greater good. Maybe we can stop finding things that divide us and learn how we can grow as a community.

Wouldn’t it be nice if no one had to live with loneliness? Wouldn’t it be beautiful if we could all feel comfortable just being ourselves and not feel pressured to conform. Wouldn’t it be nice if we all just learned to get along? 😉

Anyway, it seems that my stream of consciousness went down a back alley, stole a bike and landed in a ditch this time. I’ll just post the poem now. 🥸

blended together

as followers.

Implementing structure

gaining order

interacting in a common existence,

for social significance.

Voluntarily duplicating

each other characteristics.

So easily influenced

following classic traits,

we as abstract entities

hold predictable fates.

Striving for originality
