WIP 08.05.2020
Tumblr media
Couldn’t resist using a Five Gif on the 5th for my WIP Wednesday post.  I’m actually trying to see what I can do with a TRR/Umbrella Academy crossover.  I really want Rumor  to be the cause of something crazy to happen in TRR.  We’ll see what i can come up with there.
Tumblr media
Up first,  the one that got all the Drama
Tumblr media
 The Crisis
Pop’s Place Chapter 8
* still in writing process*
Jason’s fatherly instincts kicked in immediately.  He pulled Mia close to him. Jason was trying hard not to cry himself as they quickly wheeled Pop’s stretcher into the hospital as they were frantically working on him.
He gently stroked Mia’s back and hair trying to soothe her.  Jason glanced at Liam.  His eyes welled with tears. Both the kids were terribly upset.
When Mia composed herself a little more,  they walked inside the hospital and were led to a private waiting room. The room made Jason immediately nervous. It was a small room, away from the main waiting rooms, and they were the only people in this room.  It looked to him like the kind of room, the hospital used to deliver bad news in.  Considering how Pops was brought in, they were probably preparing for the worst case scenario.  Jason wasn’t at church often as he should mind you, but in this moment he felt he had to do something.
He looked at Mia, who still had a tight grip on his hand.  “Would you like to pray with me?”
Mia nodded, as more tears fell down her cheeks.
Liam could count the number of times he’d ever been to church on one hand.  But he nodded as well.  Because he would do anything it took to help Pops make it.
Mia reached for Liam’s hand, and they stood in a small circle.
“Heavenly Father, we come to you not for ourselves, but for someone that is extremely close to us.  We come to you for Kelvin Jones, Pops.  He is a loving Father and Husband, Mentor, and Friend.  We ask you to wrap your arms around him and touch his heart and heal it.  His work on this earth is not done yet.  Heal him Lord, so that he may continue his work here on earth surrounded by all those people he loves and loves him.  Please give us this miracle Lord, as our hearts and souls are heavy right now.  These things we ask of you, in the name of the Father, the son, and the holy spirit.  Amen.”
“Amen,”  Liam and Mia said together.
Jason wiped the tears from Mia’s eyes.  “I’ll stay with you as long as I can okay?”
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* next up *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Time to Say Goodbye
Fast Forward Chapter 14
*still in writing process*
(You may have been wondering what happened to Von after  Chapter 9 the Round Table this chapter takes us through that as half of it is right after Liam got home from the hospital post surgery.)
Tumblr media
“How is he?”  Von asked.
“He’s asleep again.  He was awake to eat, and shower, and hug the kids for a little bit.  But he fell back asleep.”
“How are you Riley?”
“I’m a mess.  He was dead.  Liam was dead.  And in those moments those minutes I thought he wasn’t coming back, something happened in me.  I still love him Von, and we have to try to fix what is damaged about us.  And I know in my heart that’s not what you want to hear.  I know you came here for me.  I knew it when you walked through the door.  How you still feel about me, I feel it radiating off you. And I know you feel like you made a mistake when you left me that day in New York.  But you didn’t.”
“Yes I did Riley, because I lost you.”
“I don’t think you would be where you are today with your music if I had gone to California with you Von.  You wouldn’t have made it.”
“How do you figure?”
“I wouldn’t have waited this long, with so much inconsistency in my life. That part of me is just like my Dad, Von.”
“Yet you came to a foreign country for a man you had spent a night with.”
“My intent was only to spend a week here with him.  A week turned into forever because I fell in love with him.  I knew he was my forever.  When you take vows Von, they’re for better and worse.  I’ve hit the worst part.  And I have to work through it with Liam, and I want to.”
Riley wiped her tears away.
“You think I’m making a mistake.”
“Yes, one that could end your life or the lives of your children.  What if he doesn’t change Riley?!?!?!?!  You’re pregnant, you have to think about the baby you’re carrying. Please come back with me.”
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* next up *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
The Crown Visits the South
University Student Ellie Chapter 2
*still in writing process. nearly complete*
Tumblr media
Riley went to Triangle Town Center to get Liam a few lighter weight lighter colored outfits.  It had been a while since Riley had been at a clothing retailer as all the clothes she owned were tailor made to perfectly fit her body. Riley laughed thinking of her husband still stark naked standing in front of the air conditioning unit.  Riley came back to the hotel room to still find Liam naked.
"You know… it's ironic now I am finally seeing you for who you are Liam Rys. When we had that time period where both Adam and Jaiden hated wearing clothes, you insisted they got it from me. That naked time wasn't a thing you did."
Liam sat up. "Because I get it, and this feels so good. Get naked with me Riley."
"I was born in the day Liam Rys not yesterday, and we legit have 45 minutes before dinner.  That’s not going to be enough time for us, if I get naked.”
“You’re right my love.”  He looked Riley over. “You’re all mine tonight, after we get back from dinner.”
Riley changed clothes, and Liam put on the light weight linen suit Riley had picked up for him. Liam sighed contentedly.
“No flaming balls?”  Riley asked
“No flaming balls My Queen.”
They met Chris and Emily for dinner at Sullivan’s Steakhouse.
“You have to try the cheesesteak egg rolls, Riley you will love them.”
“They sound strange and weirdly delicious at the same time.  I’m in.”
*^*^*^*^* end of chapter teasers *^*^*^*^*^*
Still in the pipeline:  The thoughts are still bubbling on these, as I don’t have anything more concrete on them to do a teaser as of yet or since last week: Life of Riley Chapter 17:  Summertime in the NYC , and At Long Last.

170827 DIAMOND EDGE NYC: VVIP/HI-TOUCH & vernon moment!
disc. THIS IS A LONG AND COMPREHENSIVE post about my experience and mostly this is for me so i can look back at it in an hour and cry and i’ll probably add onto this later. im really really thankful that i had an amazing experience and i will love svt forever nd ever
During the day:
I woke up around 4am and arrived around 7.30 and they lined us up. My group of three vvip friends were around the 50s so we had a good line spot. The one thing I must say was that it was extra frustrating that the people who camped out (which is not allowed!) Were given PRIORITY tickets and cut the line! I can't even begin to explain how frustrated I was that they got special treatment for something they weren't supposed to do. We sorta just chilled around until 11 o’clock, we danced a little nd watched the carat ice cream truck go by!
But anyway there was nothing we could do and they sent vvip into the venue around 12 by then there were so many people and we stayed upstairs of the venue because having 3k people around one street was way too crowded. At first I didn't know what was going on but they were apparently preparing us for hi touch. We all lined up on the balcony and it was kinda sorta balls sweat hot. WE WERE BLASTIN MUSIC AND DANCING I WAS SCREAMING SO HARD lemme tell u less than 200 people on the rooftop that’s a party and then the staffer (who i will affectionately call J because she was amazing) was like “lol svt is doing soundcheck they can hear u downstairs and they think y’all are funny” and it was only 200 of us singing and stuff so they recorded us cheering for them and sent it back to svt. At the time she was filming i just came out of the bathroom and she filmed me and kris looking like absolute idiots dancing for svt by the bathroom LOL Afterwards mmt and svt sent us more water and snacks and soda because we couldn’t leave the venue to get food THEY'RE SO SWEET THE STAFF TREATED US SO NICELY!! J and mmt handled our fangifts with care and put them in sturdy boxes and made sure that we were hydrated and energized before we went back inside
HI TOUCH
OK THE HI TOUCH WAS A LITERAL BLUR they sent us to some stairs and was telling us the rules then all of a sudden we rounded the corner!! No warning!!! AND SEVENTEEN WAS THERE GIVING THE HI TOUCH!! The order thanks to haru peeps are as follows: minghao, vern, hosh, jun, jeonghan, woozi, seungkwan, dino, wonwoo, dk, scoups, josh mingyu. I wasn’t prepared for vern to go first nd I have an audio of me freaking out and going “oh shiiiii” when Vern was right next to me oh mah gah. I tried to pull it off and say “bro” and I did but Vernon kept staring at me until he got to kristine lol im so sorry vern!! But he’s even more gorgeous in person, his eyes are beautiful and his jawline can cut a bitch and he was wearing his cute red flannel that he always has on!! His head is big and his smile takes up his entire face and he’s just one big puppy you want to cuddle and im infinitely thankful for the eye contact!! Minghao is so hot oh my god he looks so confident and chill and he was givin those “yeaah babe” vibes. Their hands feel like lily petals. Boonseoksoon and cheol were very heartwarming, i squeezed all their hands until i was rushed off but i stopped to tell josh that he had pretty eyes and ended it off with mingyu and we jogged to our spot at vvip.
Concert Experience
I must say that i’m wholly impressed and happy that vvip did not push (it totally would’ve been fckin embarassing bc svt is really close to the stage so yes if they pushed it would’ve been awful) and i’m really sorry to hear that the rest of vip/p1/p2 had a really hard time trying to see BUT IT’S OKAY SVT IS NEVER COMING TO T5 EVER AGAIN. So im infinitely thankful that i was really really close to the stage and got to see the boys. BUT OKAY THE ONE THING THAT PISSED ME OFF? ??? CAMERAS. CAMERAS EVERYWHERE! I wouldn’t have cared if you were upstairs or in the back, but WE WERE LITERALLY FIVE FEET FROM THEM AND THESE PEOPLE ARE 6 FEET TALL and cameras were blocking my view because they were filming the whole damn concert. LIKE IT’S RUDE? GO TO THE BACK? DID YOU LITERALLY PAY TO SEE THRU A COMPUTER I DO THAT EVERY DAY!!! I ended up seeing the concert to its fullest so it’s fine BUT STILL SVT DOESN’T WANNA SING TO  BUNCH OF CAMERAS ESP TO THE PEOPLE IN THE FRONT? PEOPLE ARE PAID TO FILM THEM, THERE ARE FANSITES EVERYWHERE!! Enjoy the fleeting time you have with them!
But in the end it was more opportunity for me to soak up all the fanservice because *twiddles fingers* mwhahaahahahha there was enough room for me to dance for hoshi and going svt and i made eye contact with him, wonwoo during the dancing as well, mingyu, jeong *dies* it was too much
Vernon (extended fanservice + rapping together!)
VERNON GETS A WHOLE DANG SECTION OKAY!!!! BECAUSE HE!! WAS NOT OKAY!!11! Kristine and i have been strategically preparing for MONTHS watching countless performances to stay in the corner where vern/jun would be performing on the most, turns out to be the right side so im two people away from the stage so i had a really good view of vernon’s beauty. I thought it was just me being biased but out of all the members Vernon’s stage presence is IMPECCABLE!! He doesn’t quote-unquote try to captivate you, he just naturally attracts people because his aura is so so so palpable. He was made to be on that stage!!!
Fanservice w/vern!
*sweats* after the whole hi touch fiasco i was convinced vern wouldn’t want to look at me but i held up my “vernon u lit” poster (dw i didn’t raise it high to block ppl) AND IT WORKED!!! My main highlight with him together was during check in (skip to 5:00) and since there was a lot of room I WAS GOING OFF dancing with him and rapping mingyu’s part along with him and shit i thought we had such a “feelin it” moment it was so surreal we were both in the song getting super super hype and the music was just immersed around us and i felt like the whole room melted apart and it was just the two of us sdlfjds;fjk;dsf im so gross my heart is warm my eyes are watery as i type this!! i miss him so much
anyway every performance after that, especially rock/if i and the ending ment i felt his stare and y’know that feeling when you pass someone attractive in the mall and you have that five-minute crush on them… i hope vern had that five minute crush on me because man i almost felt a way that boo or someone might feel when vern has that stare on you. He’s infinitely sweet and thankful at the ending ment when he thanked us for giving him new memories for his hometown i almost cried but he was lookin in my direction so i swallowed my feels
Final Details
Dino is the best. Performer. Like hosh performs really well when he dances! But shiii boy dino is on ALL THE DAMN TIME. i was told to be forewarned when u see dino AND Y’ALL WERE RIGHT
Lots of dk/minghao stans!!!! DK’S EYES ARE SO TWINKLY I UNDERSTAND WHY U LOVE HIM SO MUCH! A vvip had their gift as sunflowers with dk’s face on it IT’S SO FITTING
Performance unit IS WILD i used to think performance unit was just bc they did a lot of the choreo BUT NO. THEIR PERFORMANCE IS ALL THE WAY UP THERE you could feel every inch of their body carefully calculated and perfected even with OMG and highlight ND I WAS NEVER PREPARED FOR “MY I” WHY WASN’T THERE ARE TRANSITION FROM CRAZY LOVE TO THEN HOW DARE U
I used to go to concerts and from far away watch them spray water in the pit and u wish u were those people during healing cheol sprayed water and i felt CHRISTENED but all of a sudden ALL OF SEVENTEEN SPRAYED US IT WAS WET AND I FELT REBORN
At the ending ment hoshi screamed “I LOVE NEW JERSS----I LOVE NEW YORKKKK” lol my jersey self giggled
wonwoo/jun/scoups/jeonghan were definitely the most tired. Jun and Wonwoo were spacing out like crazy and coups literally ate his mic. Jeonghan was in another world most of the time, especially during the ballads he looked out to the crowd making exhausted eye contact. It looked like he was trying really hard to sing. Jeonghan and seungkwan had very visible cystic/stress acne, even through their makeup
*sigh* i guess i can’t avoid talking about the jeonghan situation amirite. From where i was everyone was v confused, sevnteen included. It lasted probably total of 10 seconds and we moved on. It was bad. We know it was very bad. Although Jeonghan seemed lowkey amused afterward THAT ISN’T THE POINT the concert was 99.9% perfect and i hope everyone remembers that and doesnt antagonize american carats (as american fans usually are for all the baddies)
All and all i feel honored that i was able to spend a comfortable night with svt, i know a lot of people aren’t able to say the same esp the people in the back. Its still replaying in my head and im infinitely thankful to stan such a wonderful group of boys and im glad to be a part of their tour

CAMP NICE 2018 SUPER RE-CAP EXTRAVAGANZA!
Doesn’t it feel now, more than ever, that we are hurling through time at such a crazy pace that keeping up is simply impossible? And what exactly are we keeping up with? The constant barrage of information, mis-information and every insignificant bit of data in between has deposited us in a constant state of flux that goes nowhere. Modern world problems indeed! So where do we go from here? For us, the answer is simple – we go to Camp Nice!
What started as a simple camping trip has become something so much more, and the changing times have all to do with it. Now Camp Nice is a sanctuary. Not so much an escape as it is a return, Camp Nice is the ultimate reset button. Whether for just one night or the whole twelve days, Camp Nice takes us back to a simpler way of life, one of cooperation, enthusiasm, and creativity, one where family and friends or complete strangers can co-exist peacefully and happily and rebuild the true feeling of what life is all about!
We know it sounds a bit extra, but anyone who has been to Camp Nice will tell you the same! This year saw Camp Nice bloom even more beautifully. A super diverse group of campers ebbing and flowing to and from camp made each day a completely different adventure, there was no way to know which way the vibe would swing. Merit badges were won, arts & crafts were created, boats were raced, waterfalls were discovered, haunted cabins were braved, fires blazed, and epic meals were created and shared. We’d watch the sun come up and then do it all over again!
Camp Nice would not have been what it was without our amazing partners this year.
Receptra Naturals – From CBD infused tea rituals every morning to CBD ointment for post-canoe shoulders, and even a CBD extract to help the Camp Nice canines keep calm in the woods, Receptra truly helped us “Make it Nice.” Their “Hang Up, Be Healthy” no cellphone merit badge was amongst the most coveted and only the most dedicated completed the challenge of 24 full hours without a phone check!
People Footwear – Every camper received a pair of People’s Cypress insulated moccasins that were essential all day and all night comfort.
Arvin Goods – Arvin hooked up a specially packaged Camp Nice sustainable sock meaning everyone had dry feet, even after surviving the few storms that rolled in.
Raen Optics – All campers got to hit the lake in style from Raen’s full range of sunglasses. Some people never even took them off!
Burton Snowboards – Burton’s Camp Nice accessory pack was the perfect size to keep all camp essentials at close hand.
Mizu – This years official Camp Nice mug came from Mizu as did a set of camp cutlery including chop sticks for all campers. Even back in the real world, its all you need to eat and drink and be completely green.
D’Angelico Guitars – From sunset sessions to late night crooning, D’Angelico provided the strings for Camp Nice’s merry musicians.
Austin Eastciders – Who knew camping and cider went so well. From the fully stocked Dardy Bar, Austin Eastciders were a hit from the first sip of the day to the last before bed. They mix great in cocktails too!
Old Blue Last – You’d be hard pressed to look across Camp Nice and not spot OBL’s signature gold can in multiple hands. Ice cold was the way to go.
El Buho Mezcal – When it came to late night libations in front of the fire, The Owl delivered every time.
Don Julio, Bulleit Bourbon & Ketel One Vodka – Our generous liquor sponsors meant that this years Camp Nice never feared a drought and tasty cocktails were always on deck!
We could continue on for days but words ultimately just don’t do Camp Nice justice, so without further ado, please enjoy our Camp Nice Recap Extravaganza in film photos by Craig Wetherby after the jump. To everyone that came, thank you! And to those that didn’t, there’s always next year!

Ray Dalio is a particular man. He founded Bridgewater, the world's largest hedge fund, which manages over $150 billion. As of right now, Ray is worth more than $15 billion, and also the author of Principles, the NYTimes best seller. But this story isn't about Ray - it's about how Principles became a book in the first place. It's a story about generosity and taking what resources you have to seek a more enriching life.PrinciplesRay gained fame after the 2008 market crash; he had shorted the market and made a killing.Following the market crashing and Ray's windfall, people hounded him to understand how he did it. People wanted to know the fundamentals on how Ray operated.Listening to the people, Ray wrote Principles. When I say write, I mean he wrote out his thoughts in Word and posted it online as a PDF. The information was substantial and novel. Quite a few would go so far as to say it was incredible. But: the production quality did not match.meh looking PDFYou know how an indie film can become a darling with the critics and subsequently a cult classic? That's what Principles became. The original PDF was a file you had to go looking for. The URL was something akin to bwater.com/file_upload/principlesdraft3.pdf and no official site or page existed. It was never marketed or promoted, but the wisdom contained within made it a viral hit. Eventually, over 3 million people would download that PDF on word-of-mouth alone. One of those readers was Phil Caravaggio. A man who would call that PDF extraordinary and life-changing would do something extraordinary himself.Meet Phil CaravaggioIf you open up Principles, you'll see this at the front of the book:acknowledgement"Whatever beauty you see in the book's design was the result of Phil Caravaggio's generosity and talent. After I put the original version of Principles online as a PDF, he came to me as a stranger bearing the gift of a gorgeously designed print edition, created with the help of the artistic book designer Rodrigo Corral."Phil is the co-founder of Precision Nutrition, a well-respected nutrition company that operates in three areas:Nutrition coaching via habit formationNutrition certification for health professionalsSaaS software that helps health professionals manage their clientsPhil's co-founder Dr. John Berardi is a leading figure in the health and fitness space - he advises companies such as Apple, Nike, and Equinox, and has worked with clients such as MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre.Their partnership is a marriage of complementary skills. John is the face and brings the nutrition knowledge, and Phil brings the underlying business and processes savvy. The company exemplifies bootstrapped success - 16 years old, reliable mid-8 figures revenue, and I often cite them as an example of "professionalism" (something severely lacking in the health and fitness space).I consider myself fortunate to count both Phil and John as my friend.Phil is the co-founder of Precision Nutrition, a powerhouse in the nutrition space.Never resist a generous impulseOne of Phil's favorite saying is "never resist a generous impulse."So back in 2014, Phil comes across a video featuring Ray (How the economic machine works). Blown away at the information presented, he goes seeking more information on Ray and comes across his PDF.Three pages in, Phil thinks to himself: "This is one of the best things I've ever read in my life."By the time he finishes reading, Phil has realized he's stumbled upon a goldmine of knowledge. Most people writing about business have never done what they're talking about, and here's this guy who, in the midst of running this business at the highest level, documented how they did it.For most people, this would mean sharing it on social media. For the more enamored, this may mean writing an email or article about it.Phil decided to leverage his assets and go one step further. So Phil goes out and hires a proofreader. He tells him to go through the PDF and to clean it up; the goal here was to clean it up a bit to make it timeless.Phil then turns to Rodrigo Corral, a famous and renowned book designer who has designed award-winning books for peeps like Jay-Z, Chuck Palahniuk (he of “Fight Club”), and more.Together, they produce the original book form of Principles.I'm kind of hand-waving over all of this, but it was hard work. Phil didn't just hand it off to them and let them run with it; he was actively engaged in cleaning it up and putting it all together.Originally thinking it would take a few months, it took Phil nearly a year to get a finished book in his hands.Phil found Principles so life-changing that, as an expression of thanks, he had it cleaned up, designed, and put together as a book. The easy part over, a bigger challenge awaited Phil: how the hell does he get the book in front of Ray Dalio himself?Phils spends months and months trying to find someone that might have a connection to Ray.Finally, after eight months, he finds a connection:Someone (Person A) who had applied for a job at Precision Nutrition heard of Phil's project. Via LinkedIn, Person A found another person (Person B), who had worked with someone (Person C), who had gone to school with someone (Person D), in Ray's office.(I had to letter the people so you'd see how stretched out and tenuous the connection was).To re-state: Phil Caravaggio → Person A → Person B → Person C → Person D (connection) → Ray DalioPerson D gets connected to Phil, and not knowing what to think, asks if they can meet in Connecticut. So Phil flies to Connecticut and meets her in a garden center that has a coffee shop.(I just want to pause and note the absurdity. Here's Phil flying to CT to meet some lady who has no clue who he is so that he can give her a book to give to Ray.)The person informs Phil that she cannot promise anything; she can get Ray to see the book, but what happens after that is entirely out of her control."That's fine; cool" says Phil. He just wants a shot to get the book in front of Ray.She then wanted to why what Phil was trying to do. Was he a publisher? What was his angle?"No, it's just a gift. This is the God's honest truth - it just really meant something to me."Phil wants to build a sizeable company, and how better to do it than receive mentorship from someone who has already done it?But that was a secondary concern. The primary goal was to show appreciation to someone who had fundamentally changed his outlook. It was about not resisting a generous impulse, no matter how crazy it seems.Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and Phil hears nothing. Phil assumes nothing will happen.I have to note again - I know Phil. We hang out regularly, and he'd previously told me that I needed to read Principles. At no point in time does he tell me he's made a physical copy of this. At no point does he tell me what great lengths he's gone to into spreading this book. At no point in time does he ever show even a modicum of bitterness...He keeps hammering away at me: "you need to read this book."One day, Phil is vacationing in Italy. His phone rings; caller id says the call is from Connecticut, and he picks up the phone to hear Ray's executive assistant on the other side. The reception is really weak, and as Phil tries to find a better connection, Ray gets on the phone.Ray was over the top complimentary. About how it's amazing and how beautiful it is. He tells Phil that he wants to do something with it, and Phil offers to help. Ray takes him up on it, and Phil and his wife fly down to Connecticut. And that is how Phil Caravaggio played a part in helping Principles go from a simple PDF to a legitimate NYT Best Seller.Bestseller bookPhil wanted to show his appreciation for something he valued highly; instead of thinking "this is crazy," he made it happen. But what about ME (aka you)? You may be reading this and think "well good for Phil - he has time, money, resources, and connections - and I have none of those."100% true.(Well 99% - as the CEO of Precision Nutrition, he was incredibly busy and short on time.)Phil spent over $50,000 converting that PDF into a book (his logic: if you're going to do it, do it right). That's not something I could afford to do without mulling it over. With that said, I did spend over $7000 making the NYC Chocolate Chip Cookie Off happen. You may see these numbers and think "hey asshole, I don't even have that much in savings, much less throw it into some other side project."It's not about the $50000. Or the $7000. It's not about the time or the people we know. The point is that we both used the skills and assets we had available to ourselves as leverage to make something we cared about happen.I mean, Phil had to go four-levels deep to find a way of just getting something to Ray... not even an actual introduction! And even that took months and months. We worked within the realms of our means. For example, anytime I come across something interesting, I share it. Not only that, I almost always reach out to the author (via email or twitter) to let them know how much I enjoyed it.That's me not resisting a generous impulse.Read a great book that you think someone will enjoy? Send it to them! Ryan Holiday and Shane Parrish have both talked about how often they buy books). It's not about the money; it's about the thought. A $10 cocktail or a five dollar chocolate can be very meaningful.> If it's within you means: never resist a generous impulse.A case study: #cookielifeThe entire #cookielife and subsequent charity food off madness started because I told my friend Kara "this cookie is amazing and you need to try it so I'm going to buy you one."I didn't just say it; I insisted we go and that it would be my treat. We went to Le Gourmand, and I spent a grand total of $6.00 to purchase two cookies. To use Phil's phrase, "I didn't resist the generous impulse" (mine: "this cookie is delicious and others need to experience the deliciousness").Subsequently, that lead to over 200 cookies sent to me via mail, over $50000 raised via charity food offs (in just 2017 - we should double that in 2018), and countless friendships and amazing memories formed...All from spending $6.00 (in Canadian dollars!) over two years ago.People come across my love for cookies and think I've got some ulterior motive; that my affinity for cookies is some exercise in personal branding. But then they meet me and then they understand - I just love sharing stuff I like. Cookies. Chocolates. Food. Dinners. Books. Stories. Connections. Random gifts.Hell, I just spent $300 taking a buddy's book (that had a positive impact on me) and getting a beautiful leatherbound version made of it.All because I ran across a company that does it, and thought to myself "man, [redacted] would look awesome as a leatherbound book."I got leatherbound booksIt's never about a master plan. It's never about "what will I get back?" It's about (and this will sound cliché and very life-coach-ish) giving back and making a positive impact. You don't need to have a grandiose plan to "change the lives of millions of people". You don't need to be some inspirational and aspirational figure that everyone adores and loves. Just a bit of generosity goes a long way.My buddy Nate (who has worked for Precision Nutrition) wrote about Phil and the genesis of the book and he summed it up perfectly:For me, it means trying to live every day with what the hippies and self-help gurus call an "abundance mindset." It means pushing away the feelings of insecurity, competition, fear, and scarcity, and embracing the fact that there's enough for everyone to go around. The pie is big enough for everyone to have a piece. And the only true way to get ahead is to give. Because the more I give, and the more gratitude I show, and the more I try to help, the happier I am.(One day I'll be half as eloquent as Nate.)It's not about karma. It's not about a balance sheet investment - "give, and you'll get 10x back." And it's not about showing off your generosity. It is about sharing whenever you want, and letting anything you get out of it be a byproduct, not the expected result.Never resist a generous impulse.

Alright, so today was overall pretty good. Alarm went off at 8 am and I didn’t want to get up, but of course I knew I had to. So I got up and finished getting my stuff together (like putting the rest of my toiletries I needed to use in the morning into my bag) and soon enough the car was here and I was off to the airport (we’re not like, fancy or anything, my parents just hate driving to and from airports and happen to be very good friends with a guy who runs a limo company). Ride was a little slow with traffic, but we got into the actual terminal very quickly, which was a godsend because that can be such a nightmare. I was flying out of the super tiny “delta shuttle” terminal that has a total of like, 6 gates, and is in just about every way better than the other terminals. I got checked in right away, I got through security right away, no line for either. I was planning on grabbing a breakfast sandwich from mcdonalds or something, but they just had a snacks shop and a little counter service place that served food, and I had some time to spare so I ended up getting french toast from there (partially because the prices were ridiculously inflated and that was actually cheaper than the breakfast sandwich I would’ve wanted). The flight ended up being like ten minutes behind schedule, but we still got off the ground fairly quickly. I looked at the airline magazine as I always do for their sudoku/kenken puzzles, and then became very frustrated when I had filled in all but 4 squares in the “hard” kenken puzzle and there was *clearly* an error in the game because my answers were right, dammit. I’m petty enough that I actually wrote in the magazine “these answers are right, this puzzle is wrong” so the potential next person would know I didn't just fuck up the puzzle, lol. I completed the easy kenken in a total of like 1 minute, then did the hard sudoku, but got bored and gave up on the easy sudoku. I then pulled up the video I had downloaded for the child defender fellowship thing I’m doing and watched that session, since I’m in class for when they do them live, so that was good, and took about an hour. After that I read Captain Canary fanfiction for the remainder of the flight, which thankfully wasn’t that long and we got in right around 1. I got my bag easily enough and actually got an uber within like two minutes (it’s usually this big process where you have to request them and then they can come from where they're waiting in a special parking area that takes them like 11 minutes to get to you and that’s super annoying. Got home right at 2, did some basic cleaning and laundry for a while just so my room isn’t in a total state of disarray (there’s at least some semblance of order at this point). Then I could’ve done some of the work for my classes that I’ve been blowing off, but instead decided to watch last week’s Arrow episode but I wanted to know what happened lol. It was an okay episode I guess, nothing really special to it. Idk how I feel about the whole Diggle being GA now, and it tempts my suspension of disbelief that pretty much anybody wouldn’t be able to tell it’s a different person. The new dynamic with the team is kind of meh to me honestly, and I didn’t find the villain particularly interesting. Can we have Black Siren back now, please? so yeah. finished that and left for class, which was colder than I anticipated, which was very unfortunate but I survived. Class was good, I like my professor so much, she’s just this awesome legal aid lawyer who’s like “I’ve been around long enough that I see right through your bullshit and I’m just gonna tell it like it is” and I appreciate that lol. There was some amusement when it was discovered the opinion she wanted us to read was actually a short 2012 decision, not the final 2016 decision on that case, which was significantly longer. It was pretty amusing really. But yeah, overall good class. Came home, again, way too cold, and started watching Supergirl. I actually really liked tonight’s episode. I feel like it was very well done on all levels, the storylines worked very well together and I love Sam getting integrated with their friend group (even if I know it’s only gonna lead to angst down the road). I just like Sam so much as a character, lol. I liked the religion plot a lot though, and Kara kind of realizing how much this meant to her and how she’s been away from it for so long. The end season with Ruby singing (minor side note, I appreciate that they made her a pretty, age appropriate singer, not an incredibly prodigy or something. it makes it all feel that much more realistic, to be proud of your daughter even when she’s not a superstar in the making) which turned into Alex breaking down about Maggie was pretty rough, and since we know where this is going it really just makes it that much worse. Next week is gonna be a rough episode for sure, but hey, it happens, But yeah, overall I really liked the episode and thought it was very well done on all sides. After that I basically started getting ready for bed and ready tomorrow, which concludes my day, though I have a few more reflections from my trip I’d like to share. I think it helped me a lot to see my sister in person and to see she is physically okay, because I hadn’t seen her since these problems have come to light and I was just so scared for her. Of course she won’t talk to me about it, which I can’t blame her for, I definitely didn't want to discuss it with my parents when I was her age and in that position (and no I’m not her parent, but I serve as a kind of quasi-parent sometimes). So there’s that. The other thing was when I was talking to my dad on the phone when I was walking to class, and he was talking about traveling back and forth between NY and Chi, and he said “well, it’s only one more semester” which is obviously inferring that he’s operating on the premise that I am definitely coming back to NY after graduation, but I remain....conflicted on the matter. As I’ve said before, I have a tendency to romanticize being home when I'm not there, but when I actually am there it’s not like that, and this trip was no exception. I don’t want to hurt my parents, but I also don’t want to end up in a job that I have no interest in and doesn't allow me to pursue the goals I’d like to achieve with my life. I think getting a job with a nonprofit in NYC would be ideal, because I would be close enough to see them frequently, but also far enough away from that environment that is not always healthy for me to be in, and hopefully actually doing the work I want, working for a nonprofit and not for the government. Pretty much all of the Long Island options are government positions, which I’m not crazy about. Oh well. Anyway, I’m done now so I’m gonna go to sleep. Goodnight my peeps. Hope you had a rockin’ Monday.

Girl With No Job Shares Her Instagram Tricks And Dishes On Social Media Fame
Sign up for The Tea, a weekly email with exclusive interviews from your favorite celebs.
Anyone who follows Claudia Oshry on Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter can tell you that her hilarity knows no bounds. The social media maven began her career as “Girl With A Job,” chronicling her riotous exploits as a NYC fashion and PR intern. But when she was fired for being an “awful intern,” she changed her brand to the massively popular “Girl With No Job.”
Girl With No Job quickly rose to Instagram fame for posting hilarious memes, which earned her a whopping 2.5 million Instagram followers. In an exclusive interview for Huffington Post’s “The Tea,” we chatted with Claudia about her favorite Instagram tricks, her biggest social media pet peeve and her undying love for Andy Cohen.

In what way has Instagram fame pleasantly surprised you, and in what way has it disappointed you?
It has pleasantly surprised me and it has also disappointed me in the exact same way — and that’s the people. I’ve talked to some of the most genuinely lovely, nice people that I never would have met if it weren’t for the internet. I’m constantly surprised by my followers and how great they are. But on the same note, I’m constantly disappointed in some of my followers and people on the internet because they can be so disgusting and so vile and really truly awful. It’s a sword that swings both ways.
Which Instagram account can you not live without?
@rememberthishappened and @popculturediedin2009. I really could not live without these throwback pop culture pages.
Is there a favorite Instagram trick that you know that most people aren’t using?
[Trends, but once] people get hip to them, they stop working. For a while, your geotag could actually increase your engagement if you were geotagging in Singapore. That lasted for a while, but everyone figured it out and it didn’t stick around for long.
One thing I’m seeing now is kind of almost moving away from what a generic meme looks like. Visually, the aesthetics of what people are finding funny on Instagram are changing. Things that I post that don’t look similar to something I would normally post are getting a lot of engagement.

What advice do you have for teens who want to make their mark on social media?
The most important piece of advice is to have realistic expectations. You’re not going to post something funny and then the next day have 6 million people talking about you in every country in the world. And just another piece of advice — it’s really easy to lose yourself on the internet just because it is such an inauthentic platform. You can curate yourself to be whoever you want to be. But I think an audience responds better to authenticity. Just be yourself. The internet is so vast and wide and so deep that you will find a large concentration of people who really agree with what you have to say and really like what you have to say if you just are yourself.
What is the biggest social media faux pas that someone can make?
I feel really strongly about photo editing. I’m all for editing the sh*t out of your photo, but you cross the line when you look like a completely different person. Do whatever you want with your photos, but within reason.
DJ Khaled is kind of like getting your period. You know it's coming but you never expect it (@THELADBIBLE)

Whose Snapchat account is your absolute favorite?
I really love following everyone from “The Bachelor” on Snapchat because I feel like I can find secret spoilers. I love following Corinne on Snapchat. She basically just takes pictures of all the bad press she gets and is like “F**k you.”
You have several characters that you play on Snapchat and Instagram — how did they come about?
So I never was into wigs, but I went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras for the first time last year and I went to this bodega to buy beads and crazy things to wear and I bought this wig. It was like this yellow, purple and green-colored wig. I’m telling you, I put it on and my entire persona changed. I wish I could be like [my alter ego]. She’s so aggressive and out there. The wig brought it out in me.
This wig is a character inside of me called Claudette. She’s amazing and she only comes out when I wear the wig. And everyone responded to it so positively, I realized I needed more characters! I bought a Kylie wig where I act like I’m a Kardashian. I’m obsessed with wigs.
You meet a lot of celebrities through your work. Have you met a celebrity who pleasantly surprised you or one who disappointed you?
You know how they always say you should never meet your heroes? I was really apprehensive about meeting Andy Cohen because my expectations could not have been higher and I just didn’t want to be disappointed. But I was just so blown away at what a nice guy he was. He met every expectation. Just to meet him and have him be exactly who I thought he was was literally the greatest feeling I’ve ever experienced.
You recently got engaged. What is your favorite part of wedding planning and what’s your least favorite?
My favorite part of wedding planning is getting to do it all on social media. I partnered with The Knot and we’re kind of planning my wedding on Instagram for everyone to see. I really wanted to get all my followers involved. They saw [my fiancée and I] get engaged, they saw us move in together — I felt like it was only right to include them. But at the same time you never want to overexpose because it really is a private thing. So partnering with The Knot was perfect because I get to include my followers, I get to have their input, but it’s still kind of private.
My least favorite part of wedding planning is just everyone’s opinion. I don’t need it, I don’t care for it. We all have different aesthetics. I don’t care where you got married, when you got married. Mine’s going to be completely different. If everyone could just back off, that would be amazing.
Which fast food chicken nugget is the best?
McDonald’s. They’re just always consistently good.
@boywithnojob TAKE NOTES
A post shared by Claudia Oshry (@girlwithnojob) on Feb 6, 2017 at 4:10pm PST
What’s the last song you played on your phone?
Oh my god, I am obsessed with Maren Morris. Her songs are so good. I listened to her album 400 times and I cannot wait to see her concert.
Would you rather do 1,000 crunches a day for a year or live with JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers for a month?
This is so hard. Honestly, I really don’t like doing crunches, but I also really despise Jordan and JoJo. But I think I would have to say Jordan and JoJo only because I would get such good Snapchat content from living with them for a month. And I would have so many of my questions answered, like do they really like each other? What do they do all day? Does she ever get off her phone?
If you could only wear one lipstick color for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Kylie Lip Kit — Candy K.
A train is coming down the track. Andy Cohen is standing on one fork of the railway and Kaitlyn Bristowe is standing on the other. You can flip the switch and save one of them — who do you save?
This is so hard because Kaitlyn is a friend, but she also has a really loving fiancée — I wouldn’t want her to die! But at the same time, I think that more people would be affected by Andy’s death. I think I would just throw myself in front of the train. I’m really in love with both of them. That’s like asking me to choose a favorite child, and honestly I feel like that would be easier.
Kiss, marry, kill: Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian.
Definitely would kill Khloe right out of the gate. She used to be everyone’s favorite. I’m so happy for her that she went through this really amazing transformation where her body’s completely different, her face is completely different, but I feel like she really lost a part of who she was and why she was everyone’s favorite. So, I’m definitely gonna kill her. I think I’m gonna marry Kim because I just want to spend as much time with her as possible — I think she’s amazing. I’d kiss Kourtney because she’s looking so good and she obviously likes Jewish people.

If you had to live without eyeliner or contour stick, which would you lose?
I would lose the eyeliner because nobody wants to see my face without a proper contour.
Go-to pizza topping?
Just cheese. Let’s not reinvent the wheel.
You are super close with your sisters. What is the one thing you can’t stand when they borrow?
Um, anything. We are so close. We never fight. But if someone borrows something without asking, it’s literally World War III. That’s the only thing. What really bothers me is if I have something that doesn’t fit anymore, but it will fit me again, they’re like, “But it doesn’t fit you, I can have it!” NO. It doesn’t work that way. I will eventually fit into it again.
What does it mean when the vibes are “steeny”?
The vibes are steeny when all the steens are together. The steens are my sisters. The vibes are steeny when everyone’s having fun, having a good time — they’re just positive. Steens are positive. We’re fun, we like to dance, we like to listen to music, we like to party, so when the vibes are steeny, that means that everyone’s having a good time. Don’t you always want the vibes to be steeny?
If you could only guzzle one beverage for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Diet Coke.
You low-key have a fantastic singing voice — what’s your favorite song to sing?
“Don’t Rain on My Parade” from “Funny Girl.” Staying true to my Jewish roots.

Read her full interview below and sign up here to get more exclusive interviews with your favorite celebs, from Lauren Jauregui to Noah Cyrus and more.

I really love following everyone from “The Bachelor on Snapchat because I feel like I can find secret spoilers.
Ugh I'm really bad at going to bed when I want to lol. Today was pretty good. I dragged my ass out of bed at 8:30 and got ready to go to the beach. I don't really have a bathing suit (I have one but idk if it fits and I didn't bring it with me anyway) so I just wore a bra and underwear with a tank top and shorts and faked it because whatever. We left for the beach around 9 and made fairly good time, getting there around 9:50. Parking was already swamped, and we had to drive around for a few minutes but soon found a spot on the street and discovered that you can pay for the meter by phone if you don't have enough quarters (interesting). So from there we walked over to the public access point, not very far. We were right over by where we used to always stay when we would come down here to visit my cousins. Where they actually live is kind of out in the middle of nowhere, and the only thing nearby is a motel, and my parents don't really do motels if at all avoidable (spoiled rich people that they are) so we always opted for one of the touristy hotels on the beach, because hey, beach! I was just happy to be back at the ocean. I dutifully put sunscreen on, then laid back for a little while before deciding to go in the water. At first I was being hesitant and not wanting to go all the way in but then I saw the waves and thought about how some of my happiest memories from my childhood are at the beach jumping waves with my (other) cousin and my brother because nobody was making fun of me and I was simply accepted as part of the group, and I just said fuck it and ended up jumping through waves and dunking my head under for a good while with my cousin, and it was very much fun. I got to talk to my cousin a bit while we were out there about college and such and how to prepare and just practical advice and shit, so that was good. Eventually we went back, and I guess my mortal mistake was not reapplying sunscreen at this point, because I ended up with stupid ridiculous sunburn on my arms and legs and I'm very irritated about it. But anyway. We sat with my mom and aunts for a while, then the adults (or adult adults) went for a walk and I just sat with my cousin, and looked at the ocean and just ended up thinking. And I sat there and I thought about how much I missed the ocean, the real ocean, and how much I've enjoyed these days with my extended family, feeling that sense of love and community that seems so lacking in so many of my lonely days in Chicago. I thought about my grandparents and how I didn't get enough time with them, and how I never got to know my grandpa on my mom's side very well because he lived in Arizona and we only ever saw him for a few days a year. I thought about how my dad is already in his 70's, and while he's in good health he's still getting older and it's obviously going to still be a few years before I have any kids. I thought about how I want my kids to know their grandparents, to spend time with them while they can and build those relationships while they have the chance to, before they're taken from them too soon. I thought about how my cousins all lived in different states, and how I'd like my kids to be very close with their cousins, that they'd grow up alongside them, that my kids would know their uncles and aunt and feel so loved by all the family around them. And I just sat looking at the ocean and I decided I don't want to stay in Chicago after I finish law school. I don't really know where this decision came from. Sure, there's all the above, but up until now all of that was true and staying in Chi was still a rational decision to make. But now....I just don't want to anymore. Maybe it has to do with the job in New York City that I want so badly, that while I love the work I do now that is what I really want to do, what I want to do long term. How I'd be close enough to my family but not so close that I'd feel the need to get away that sent me packing in the first place. I need breathing room. I'm not moving back home. But I wouldn't be opposed to being closer, a lot closer than Chicago. I don't know if this job in NYC is what God does have in store for me, but I know I really want it. I guess we'll have to see what happens. I will really really miss my church in Chicago though. I love it there oh so much and I can only hope to find a community that resonates with my soul so much again in a new place. I love the people there and their beautiful hearts, and I will miss them dearly. But, anyways. We stayed at the beach until about 2 when we wanted to head back since we didn't want to spend the whole day there. We stopped at one of the little beach stores because my aunt (the one from Michigan) wanted to look at stuff. I wound up getting two pairs of shorts, like soffee style, because the shorts I was wearing yesterday were way too big for me as are the majority of my shorts now haha so I'll be needing to do something about that. I'm not really crazy about this aunt. She's technically my step-aunt I suppose, as she's not the mother of my cousins, though my uncle divorced her before I have any memories of them. I remember vaguely before they got married, and I remember it happening and gaining two new cousins (or step-cousins technically, but we've dropped that mostly). Growing up I thought I didn't like her because my cousins didn't like her and I liked them, but as I got older and those cousins haven't really been around, I've realized that she's really just a rude person and is always very demeaning towards younger people and it definitely just pissed me off as a kid (and sometimes still pisses me off). But anyway, not the point. We got back in the car and briefly stopped for coffee, then drove back to the house. I showered to get the sand off me and get the salt water out of my hair, then tried to aloe up the best I could. Everyone was kind of chilling at this point so I pulled out my laptop, only to find the mouse pad being erratic and not responding correctly, so I cursed and shut it off, hoping it being off for a few hours will fix the issue and it'll work for me to live tweet the Tonys tonight. Shortly after this we started playing badminton out front, and the neighbors came over, so I sat and talked with the mom for a bit. This is the mom of the girl I was talking to last night, and I very much enjoyed talking to her as well. We eventually moved to the back for some reason, then started playing bs, and today apparently was not my day for it because I didn't win either of our games lol. The second was interrupted by dinner, which we had steak for, then we finished and it was like 7:40 at this point so I checked my computer which was thankfully cooperating at this point and waited for the Tonys to start. I knew this year would be a bit odd because I admittedly have not been paying attention to the theatre season at all, and I've only seen one show that was barely nominated, so I wasn't really familiar with any of the front runners. I knew the concept of DEH and had seen Ben Platt perform on one of the tonight shows, but that was about it. I had mixed feelings overall about the night. Kevin Spacey was funny enough. I really enjoyed the Falsettos performance, so I'm very glad that was apparently recorded and I can see it in movie theatres since it closed way back in November (I don't know why, it looks hilarious). I wasn't impressed at all by hello dolly or Groundhog Day, I thought they were both very boring and I didn't quite know how they got nominated. War Paint I felt like should've been more impressive for the star power it had, but the music just wasn't very good. The DEH performance was of course great, it was a strong choice of course to pick a song that really only features your main actor and not an ensemble piece like most shows do, but Ben Platt did a fantastic job of carrying it and I was totally obsessed with the set design, holy crap it was awesome. I have tentative plans at least to see that show before the summer is over, assuming we can get tickets. I was sad Anastasia didn't win for featured actress or costumes, I can't speak for the costumes for other shows but Anastasia's were BEAUTIFUL, some of the best I've ever seen, and undoubtedly deserved a Tony for it. And Mary Beth Peil was did an amazing job in her role and I wish she got recognized for it. It also pissed me off it didn't get nominated for best musical when fucking Groundhog Day did which looked fucking terrible???? Like why??? Why is that a thing and why did it get nominated for best musical???? I have so many frustrations. Ugh. And Christy Altomare belonged in the leading actress race and Ramin Karimloo belonged in the featured actor race, but I digress. Great Comet had a fun performance, I enjoyed their costumes as well (mostly how it went from 1800s to punk rock in about two seconds) although I'm still not entirely sure what the show is actually about, or how it was conceived (something about war and peace)??? I liked what they did with having the playwrights talk about their plays, it was super effective in getting invested in them and better than how they used to do it. I also appreciated how they introduced them with the writers name first for the revivals. DEH winning of course surprised nobody, though it'll probably make ticket prices go up (sigh, as if they weren't high enough already). But yeah, it was decent, a good watch at least. And that pretty much summed up my night, just followed by an inability to get off my phone, though my phone has picked up the annoying habit of dying on me when the battery isn't dead but won't turn back on unless plugged in??? Ugh, not happy about it, but have a Genius Bar appointment for it Tuesday. Flying home tomorrow, but more on that then. Sleep for now. Goodnight peeps. Stay lovely.
