Crescent Rolls Apple Wedges
Makes 16
These are rather delicious. It is a great combination of crescent rolls, apples, sugar-cinnamon butter, and a citrus soda. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or cold.
Ingredients
2 large baking apples
2 cans of refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 rolls per can)
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
12 ounces of a citrus soda like Mountain Dew
Directions:
Peel and core the apples. Cut each apple into 8 equal in size pieces. You can also use an apple cutter utensil which cores and slices the apples into 8 equal pieces. Put the apple pieces into a bowl of water so they don’t turn brown before you are able to use them.
Preheat the oven to 350° and spray a 9x13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
The crescent roll dough usually comes pre-notched into triangles. Separate the pieces. Roll each apple piece in the dough starting from the small end. Make sure the apple pieces are completely covered with the dough before putting them in the baking dish. Pinch and pull the dough to ensure each apple piece is covered.
Place the butter to melt in a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl or put the butter into a saucepan to melt. Use low heat in the microwave or on the stove.
Once the butter is melted add the sugar and cinnamon into the bowl or saucepan and stir until they are combined. Pour over the crescent rolls in the dish. Then pour the soda.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown.
Note:
There are many kinds of baking apples to choose from. They range from Mcintosh apples which are very tender to other apples which are firmer and hold their shape when they are baked.

Crescent Rolls
Family gatherings and good bread. A perfect pair. What more could you ask for? Well, there was that time Uncle John said something racist and I had to hold my brother back from kicking his ass. Aunt Jeanie started crying, my Mom thought it was her fault because the pies weren’t that good. My Uncle ended up pushing my brother into the living room picture window, shattering it. The Christmas wreath my Grandma made fell out of the broken window and into the melting mess of snow and mud below. My brother did not fall out, however he did call the cops on my Uncle. Things had calmed down somewhat when the cops showed up. My Mom gave them some of her home made crescent rolls, we all sang a round of Jingle Bells after my Uncle willingly left to drive home, but only after he promised to get the window fixed. He never did stop being racist, and he never was invited to holiday dinners anymore. It was meals like this that made me want to go back to the kids table during the holidays. But DAMN the crescent rolls were so good. Here is the recipe...
Ingredients
1 package active dry yeast
¼ cup warm water
1 cup scalded milk
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup shortening
1 tsp salt
3 ½ cups sifted all purpose flour
1 egg
1 – 2 tablespoons honey
Empty yeast packet into warm water. Combine milk, sugar, shortening, honey and salt. Cool to lukewarm. Add 1 ½ cup flour. Mix well. Mix in yeast and egg. Gradually add remaining flour to form soft dough, mixing well. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease surface. Cover and let rise until doubled, 1 to 2 hours.
Split dough into two halves. Turn out dough on lightly floured surface. Roll out into 12 to 15 inch circle. Coat dough surface with melted butter. Cut lines across circle of dough to make 16 “slices.” A pizza cutter works well doing this. Roll up each slice into a crescent shape. Place onto greased cookie sheet. Repeat with second half of dough.
Cover and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. When out of oven coat tops with butter. Makes 36 rolls.
