Remember in "Sleeping Beauty" the live action how Maleficent had a crow? That's what we're doing now,but with Malleus.
Malleus x crow shifter!Reader
Genre:Fluff, master and loyal servant trope.
Little bird
Tumblr media
You always had a thing for shiny, pretty things. No matter whether it was some trash on the ground or a nice ring in a pawn shop.
Shiny objects never failed to grab your attention.
Malleus is shiny and definitely pretty, and you, being you, got attracted to him. Naturally of course.
Malleus is a shiny,pretty fae.
It was near impossible for him not to attract your interes.
Once he realized a certain bird was stalking him, the fae started leaving small amounts of food for you. It always brought a smile on his face when the mysterious bird tilted its head, its dark eyes filled with curiosity. In his eyes,it was such a cute action to do.
He must admit, the bird got his attention, and soon enough it became a habit.
Like crows usually do, you started leaving small trinkets that you personally found pretty, at his window.
It might be a flowery metallic hair clip that attracted you,or maybe some bottle cap with a pretty color.
He appreciated neither less ,it was a curious habit the fae and the animal picked on.
So malleus started reading. About crows, their habits and soon enough he found stories about them.
Those little creatures are quite interesting,it's what he would think while reading a particular sentence that made him think about the bird, once again.
Some say if a crow is fond of somebody they leave gifts as a sign of appreciation and sometimes, loyalty.
When this little black feathered animal chooses a person to grow attached to,it's quite the view to other people. And it means that you, as a person, are enough to gain one animal's trust.
Dark, beautiful creatures of the night, growing attached to complete strangers.
What Malleus didn't know was that inside the dark bird, there was a human soul.
Free to transform whenever they pleased, not really.
You can't shift whenever you want to,unless you want to be seen bare by other students, and you definitely do not want that.
When you're in your animal form you feel free, peaceful to do as you please, fly wherever you want.
Even if you're not truly a crow, the tendencies to behave like one are real besides eating worms and insects. That's not you.
Bleagh.
Before Meeting the tall guy,you used to collect the shiny things you found, but now that he's here, most of the objects you pick up are for him.
He leaves outside his bedroom window bread crumbs, cookie crumbs and whatever the indulging boy thinks is good for you or that you would enjoy.Even if you don't need it,you take them. Mostly to show him you trust him with.
They taste better when somebody gifts them to you. It's a fact.
Soon,Malleus allows himself to touch your head. A gentle rub on your black feathery small head. His green eyes whiden when you push your head in his hand, practically telling him to keep going.
He smiles,as he rubs below your dark beak. Malleus notices the way your eyes close affectionately. He could even imagine a ghostly smile on your beak.
It's one truly cute interaction.
Malleus's friends soon started to notice a particular bird on his shoulder, always watching.
Silver even had a feeling that you understood what they were saying, simply by your body language.
But most of the time crows and ravens are smart birds, some reaching the level of understanding of a 5 year old child.
It's very interesting, you are interesting, especially in Silver's eyes.
But he doesn't pay much attention to you, more busy to focus on Malleus.
You like Silver,he cares about Malleus a lot.
The first time Lillia has met you,he knew that you're not what you seem.
His age isn't a young one, therefore he's been through stuff, and learned things in his life.
Like now,he knows that you're not just a bird. You couldn't fool the older fae even if you tried.
So he silently watches, and he's not ashamed to make comments when you're alone, which isn't often since you're with Malleus most of the time, but still.
This man has you sweating, even if you don't particularly hide yourself on purpose.
Even if you're most comfortable around Malleus in your shifter form, the truth can't be hidden from him forever.
At the same time, you can't just shift in front of him back in your human form.
Meeting him with no clothes on,for the first time even, doesn't really seem like a good first impression.
Unfortunately, that is exactly how it happens. Not the naked part, but let's just say you're not clothed either.
Almost 6 months of constantly being on Malleus's shoulder taught you his schedule. So seeing him in his dorm room, eyes wide open watching your form, that's covered by his blanket.
Your original plan was to shift in his room, quickly change in some clothes that belong to him,and tell him the truth about who you truly are.
Simple as that.
It wasn't simple as that. Malleus arrived in his room earlier than he usually does, barely giving you time to cover yourself up.
Now this situation is exactly not the kind that you wanted to land in.
It's not like you could've brought your own clothes in Malleus's room. Your animal form can't carry that much weight, after all it's a small bird.
"Who are you?" Malleus's voice breaks your line of taughts, all thinking of your failed plan and the embarrassment of being in such a situation.
"This isn't what it looks like." The fae holds a curious expression, after all not every day he's met with a naked person in his chambers. Now that he thinks of it,you do white look familiar, but he just can't figure it out from where.
"Malleus,I swear I'm not a creep or anything of the sort." His silence allows you to continue explaining yourself, the blanket around you getting squeezed tighter around you, praying to whatever God was mocking you that this blanket remains on your naked body.
"You know my name?" You watch as the said boy moves closer towards you,now more curious than before.
You squint your eyes, focused on the floor, trying to find the right words to explain yourself.
How do you tell the boy you're completely loyal to,that you're actually a person with the ability to shift forms.
Exactly,you try explaining it.
"I know everything about you, not in a weird stalking way, don't get me wrong." Swallowing the lump in your throat, you meet eyes with the dark haired fae.
This situation is less than comfortable for you.
"Then do explain, what are you doing in my bedroom and why are you bare?"He leaves out the part where you mentioned knowing him,and focused on the important matter.
"Well,I wanted to tell you the truth,or rather show you the truth but..." A sigh leaves your lips at the failure of your oh so great plan, "I didn't have enough time."
He watches as you follow his steps with your eyes, the deja Vu clear as day.
Just who is this interesting person who claims to know Malleus Draconia?
"Say, child of man, what might the truth be? The one you desired to tell me so bad that it was necessary for you to be bare in my room. Enlighten me." Malleus speaks, voice steady and calm, unlike yours. Shaky and anxious.
"I will gladly talk to you...mind if I ask but, can I borrow some clothes?" The question leaves Malleus a bit shocked, only nodding in agreement.
What shocked him even more was that you knew from where to take the clothes.
Excusing yourself to change, you don't miss the unusual expression on Malleus's face. Not so often do you get to see him expressing such an emotion, especially one you caused.
Finally dressed, you dare to properly meet eyes with Malleus. Ready to explain yourself properly.
"Now,I owe you an explanation." The boy takes a few seconds to take in your new appearance, his clothes looking quite nice on you.
"That you do,child of man. Starting by why you were in my room?" He doesn't take his eyes off you, instead fixates them in your eyes. There it was again, that sense of familiarity. Like he's known you for a long time.
"I came to your room, because I wished to show you who I truly was." A deep breath in,and an exhale. It's time to break it to him, that's the whole reason why you came here , right?
Your eyes dart around the room,a singular object catching your eye. A shiny silver ring you found on campus a couple months ago.
Making quick effort, you move towards the table to pick up the ring.
Malleus realizes it,and before your hand could make contact with the piece of jewelry his palm wraps around your wrist, stopping you immediately.
"How is you touching my belongings going to answer any of my questions? Are you perhaps here to steal, human?" His green radiant eyes narrow at you, gaze burning into your own. This ring could never be worn by the fae. Unfortunately you learned that one of Malleus's weaknesses is silver.
If you had known before you would've kept the ring to yourself. Even with his condition,Malleus still kept it, because it was a gift from his loyal little bird.
"Allow me," your soft eyes break contact with his narrowed ones, just for a second. He allows you to pick up the ring, his gaze fixated on what you're trying to show him.
"I brought this to you 3 Months ago,you fed me candy bits, even if it's unhealthy for a bird,I accepted them." Malleus's narrowed eyes widen he seems to be doing it a lot nowadays,or is it just the effect you have on him? Maybe.
"Now how could you have known that, and why would you refer to yourself as a bird?" He's not quite getting the hang of the situation,in his defense, this has never happened before.
You sigh, maybe the best thing to do is just show him,but then when you'll turn back you'll be naked again. Ugh...this is a curse.
"What if I just show you instead?" This was more a question towards yourself rather than for him, even so,Malleus nods. Carefully watching you as you back away.
You take a deep breath in,and there it is. The clothes you just borrowed from the tall male in a pile on the ground.
His brows furrow, was this a trick? Did you wish to play a prank on him?
He doesn't get to drown to deep in his thoughts, the sudden movement in the pile of clothes draws his attention.
The boy slightly bends down, trying to get a glimpse of whatever might be there. And out of the clothes,a crow emerges, a black feathered beautiful crow.
Not just any Crow,but you.
Now it's clear, why you were so familiar in the boys eyes.
Even so,the realization hits him hard, especially when you take your designed place on his shoulder.
Malleus's eyes link with the bird's,your eyes."It's...you?" Voice questionable, you knew he wouldn't have an extreme reaction. The time spent with him taught you that.
From your beak, the ring lays securely gripped. The fae's hand extends, allowing you to drop it in,only for a few seconds. The metal burning his porcelain hands. The ring quickly lands on the table, remaining as nothing more than a gift, and a decoration to his dark room.
You cow, like Malleus could understand you. It feels good to show yourself to him,not having to carry what felt like a horrible lie in your chest.
Once the shock wears off, he smiles. That warm beautiful smile that warmed your heart every time you saw it.
Fortunately, most of the time it was directed to you, after you brought him something nice from one of your trips outside the school.
"You're quite the interesting one, little birdie." He takes the liberty to adjust your position, setting you on his wrist.
"You never fail to surprise me." His white, large hand gently pet your little head, right above the beak. He swears he could hear you purr, like a cat.
Maybe it was only his imagination, but the way your head once again leaned into his palm, that wasn't his mind.
You two make quite the pair.
.
.
I had this little idea and I just had to write it. Maybe I'll make a part two to it, depending on what ideas I get next.

I made more because... Because! @aidenlydia again, this is their au but I'm eating it like fish sticks on a plate of mac 'n cheese. Getting this scene out of my head because I love them and I have nothing else to do waiting for dinner.
More Viking SoapGhost.
Ghost watched, his eyes unmoving as John wrote with his charcoal wood pen on some old pages. Geez it must have been four pages with three drawings and eight life updates.
Finally John signed the bottom of the pages and rolled them up with a string.
"You done??" Ghost asked flatly when He finished.
"Yes, now I need these delivered back to Roach."
"You say that like I'm going to do it."
John looks at him, nodding. "You are."
Ghost sighs and groans. "I'm not your dumb messenger bird." He grumbles, shifting closer and standing. John pulls his cloak tighter and chuckles softly. "Actually, you are."
He holds out the folded papers to a pouty Simon. "Go on, shouldn't be long now if you get to it." John encouraged.
"Fine, but I'm bringing back a tab worth my while for it." He grumbled, looking up at the big man.
"Mhm, and I'll happily pay."
Ghost shifted, black wings flapping in the air, snatching the papers between his talons. He squawked at John, who could only smile softly, barely noticable.
And watched him head off. Simon didn't actually mind doing errands for John. If anything the combined stretching of his wings and the inevitable praise he was going to get for completing the assignment would be worth it.
Oh yes indeed.
John kept the fire lit, watching the open snowy land as Ghost's small form had left his sight. He poked the fire, watching the embers flock to the wind of the cave mouth, then over at Ghosts bedroll.
He sighed softly, placing his hand on it, noticing a stray feather stuck to the inside. He chuckled softly, picking it up and twirling it around.
"Be safe, Ghost."
Ghost did as he promised, he made the incredible eight hour journey in the shitty weather back to their small village. Fucking between houses to the main hall.
Stopping at the doors, his feet hit the ground, heading up the stairs and pushing the knocker open.
The large door swing, creaking when he entered. A head poked up, followed by a little smile. "Well well well, hunting season is barely started and you're already back."
Simon rolled his eyes softly, coming over and dropping the roll of papers. "From MacTavish."
"What is it??" Roach asked, undoing the twine.
"Hell if I know, I may be a crow but I do not snoop."
Roach gave him a look, and Simon sighed. "Ok not this time. But I was damn curious."
Roach chuckled softly. "Alright, I'll look these over, you go get some rest. Probably had a long trip."
"Well I got permission to run up a tab so I'm gonna go get my arse drunker than a bat in honey." He flipped the end of his cloth mask back over his shoulder to keep it secure. Heading back to the door and out to go get absolutely hammered.
And you don't want to see a shifter drunk, it's not always pretty. But Ghost has been starting to learn that eighteen drinks is when John has to cradle the poor crow with his talons straight out and wings a mess as he takes him home.
And of course, by the time Ghost had slept off the drunken night Roach had something new written up for him. Returning to the hall and taking the papers.
"Will you be alright to fly?? You look a little..."
"Mmm I'll be fine!" Ghost mumbled, heading from the hall and taking off again. Damn messenger bird. John better congratulate him at least or he's never running him these stupid errands ever again.
It was late when he returned, but he saw the familiar smoke and a crackling fire. Flapping his wings and stretching out his talons when he saw a dark figure among the casting, wobbling shadows.
He latched onto John's arm guard, crooning his neck and fluffing his feathers before tucking them in.
John noticed the letters and gently took them, noticing the scratchy pen writing of Roach.
"Thank you Ghost, you've done very well."
Simon melted, making a little noise and hopping up his arm, craning his head to peck at John's beard.
"Yes, good work." John put the papers down to run his large, calloused thumb over Simon's small head, gently smoothing the feathers down.
Oooh yeah, this is so worth it.
He fluffs his feathers, nipping at his hand when he attempted to pull away. "Alright then, if you insist... Get comfy."
Simon cawed at him. He wouldn't be getting comfortable. Hopping onto the ground and shifting, noticing his bedroll slightly closer.
"You miss me or something?"
"Only warming the place where my cold heart will go after I see that tab." He mumbles as he turns his attention mostly onto the letters.
Simon smiles a tad, laying down and getting comfy. He looks around, then at the fire, watching the flames dance. His head slowly coming down, resting against John's thigh.
It was hesitant, but then again peaceful. The silence only filled by the crackling fire. Simon's head feeling a mess from the last of the alcohol and the flight until Johns hand gently touched his head.
He didn't react, keeping himself stiff as Johns thumb absentmindedly stroked his hair. Eyes still glued on the letters, reading them through.
Simon relented to relaxing, curling up and pulling John's cloak over him slightly. His eyelids felt heavy, and the soothing warmth of John's hand slowly had him coming undone.
Letting himself fall asleep there, letting out soft breaths.
John's gaze finally flickered over to his partner, humming softly. "Good work, Simon. Can always count on you."
He put the papers aside and leaned back, watching the entrance of their camp as Simon slept. He would keep watch, he'd gotten enough of his own rest for now.
It's shorter but hell that first photo had me in a coma. Yes, I am insane, yes, I will make more, respectfully if I'm allowed to keep gobbling up these meals...

Monty's Study
I haven't been to the fandom tag in a while, so maybe this was already discussed, but I want to talk about Monty.
First off, I've been reading what others say regarding his cage and connecting it to what he said himself.
the cage is too small for a crow (literally for any bird, actually)
the door is open, nothing that we could see was holding him in place
Monty still didn't try to get out and fly away
he said "being in the dark like that - it was... hard, not being able to make my own choices" about his previous life as a crow
Which makes me think Esther never cared much for her familiar and even left him alive after he failed her plan only because he could still come in handy in future but either cast a will-binding spell on him or simply trained to be tamed. In any way, he couldn't leave - neither before his human time, nor after.
Which still doesn't mean he should like being human.
Every time I see the takes about "Monty come back in s2", I can't help this thought scratching me even as I smile at the jokes and headcanons. Not to yuck anyone's yum, I'm all for shifter Monty, it's a very interesting idea that can unravel in soooo many ways, just give me all of them, - but at the same time I can't get rid of this uneasy feeling.
Here's the thing: I take a particular liking to the characters who aren't human but were forced to become one without their consent, and the way they feel about it and cope with it. Call that a projection, they're very relatable as an allegory, whatever. Says Skaya as an ND.
Some of them like the change, find new meaning in it. Some are 50/50 and uncertain. And some hate it. They never asked to be human, what the hell!
Malevolent podcast and some RK900 fics are partcularly good at exploring this
Since the first moments Monty was turned human, I've been looking forward to whether this question was going to be addressed and how. The show was going exactly in all the directions I liked the most, so I had hopes it will consider this, and suspected it would happen exactly the way I wanted the most.
And yay, that actually happened. The way I wanted the most. Added sad circumstances of Monty basically sacrificing his newfound life and self were really not that necessary okay q_q
Throughout the episodes I could see how initially all smiley and loyal familiar Monty felt more and more uneasy about the whole Esther's plan. He didn't like it. He liked his new friends. He actually fell for a guy. It was so fucking complicated and confusing but there was also joy in it! Until certain point, that is... Anyway! Being human is difficult. Monty didn't ask for it.
And he actually says that!
We don't know if he liked being a crow better, if he wanted to stay human longer - he doesn't talk about any of it. He liked the ability to make his own choices he couldn't make as a crow though - so maybe he would like to try this human experience to some extent again.
But we know he wasn't very fond of all those complicated human feelings. Crows are very smart, but it's a different kind of intellegence. Being a bird isn't necessarily simpler or easier than being a human, especially now that he's lost his owner and is probably out in the streets? I'm suddenly very much concerned, crows are very social and territorial creatures, what if they don't accept this boy?! But it's different. And it's natural for him. It's familiar, hence it's easier just by this fact. And no confusing emotions.
Maybe the fact that Monty liked making independent decisions so much and developed his rebellious side to some extent was what made him retain some memories and attachments when he was back to his crow form, helping Charles with his backpack.
I don't think he'd enjoy being fully human again, though. I think he likes being a bird, as he initially is. Hence why all the "Monty should come back in s2 and have a happy love story!" make me feel uneasy.
Still... since he liked some of it, maybe being given an ability to shapeshift at will and somehow merge a bird mind and a human one which should really be ONE HELL of a process into some comfortable chimera, he'd use it?

You fool you've also activated my wolf autism!
I see that Ethiopian wolf! You can't fool me! If there are were Ethiopian wolves then there must also be were golden jackals, African wolves and coyotes by the virtue of the Ethiopian wolf diverging geneticslly first from the others over 1.9 million years ago!
And for that matter the distinction between coyotes wolves and red wolves is an ongoing taxonomic battleground! Scientists can't decide whether they are the result of ancient genetic mixing between wolves and coyotes, recent genetic mixing of wolves and coyotes or ancient genetic mixing of wolves, coyotes and a third species! There is extensive ancient coyote admixture into Easter wolves (timber wolves, Great lakes wolves & Algonquin wolves)! Great lakes wolves and Algonquin wolves are 25% and 40% coyote respectively! As such some have proposed either declaring the eastern wolf it's own species or combining them with red wolves! The majority of wolves in North america barring the high arctic are hybrids of some degree! It's hybrids all the way down!
I am proud of you for finding a wolf with mutton chops thank you.
my wifi crashed six times as i tried to respond to this. i am going to choose to believe this is because i forgot roach.
ANYHOW. 🫵 A WORTHY ADVERSARY!! i must admit i did shave off a whole lot of explanations because i figured half the time people don’t really read them anyway but thank you for the depth! it really is such a fascinating topic of study.
and yes that is absolutely an ethiopian wolf! i’ve considered adding other more distant species but we’ll see. this IS meant to be a werewolf au, so if i throw in a painted dog people might beat me to death with hammers. regardless, i see any canid as fair game but the purists,,, the purists,,,,
some other minor distinctions is that while most of these guys are (as far as i can tell) grey wolves, i believe it’s price who is a mackenzie valley wolf, roach is a steppe wolf, and yuri iirc is a eurasian wolf on top of the already identified ethiopian wolf (gaz) and the red wolf (anatoly). i’m not sure what the other subspecies are for the rest. i can’t distinguish them, personally. i’m cringe like that
hybridization is so fucking fascinating, honestly. i keep going on rabbitholes on dingos and that whole mess, and i’m sure you heard about that one dude in like 2021 that was a pampas fox/domestic dog hybrid (pampas foxes are closer to true wolves than foxes so something to keep in mind). the way the biology and the symbolism mix together in this au is like a witch’s brew that makes me do a grinch smile at my laptop screen.

every time I watch a cari can read or crow caller video I get this major desire to have someone break down one of my stories the way they do, and then I remember I’m shit at finishing things and don’t have any (appropriate) finished pieces people could read anyway, but ughhh I crave that sort of recap and reaction to my stuff

Did they just post artwork? Yes. Am I in love with every viking/cod au that crosses my path? Yes. Do I like shifters? Fucking absolutely.
And @aidenlydia has fed me all of those at once. So obviously I'm writing something for it because it's beautiful! Here is their original post.
Winter fall.
09 SoapGhost
Snow in the Highlands was always to be expected. Even in the deep treks as the white specks of freezing cold weather clung to his beard. Icy blue eyes only added to the background, wind whipping around them up in the mountains.
John stopped in the slow, noticing part of the thick pine tree line had been caved in. Branches snapped and trees arching from a weight.
Deep foot prints quickly being filled by the pummelling snow leading into the dark abyss of the forest.
Along his collar, Ghost stirred. Fluffing his feathers along John's neck, making him shiver a little.
"You wanna go have a look?"
The rather large crow's wings puffed out from the fuzzy fur cloak John wore, making a rather disgruntled noise.
John chuckles. "Be quick then, we're both hungry."
His little feet bounced, pushing off of John's shoulder and flapping his large black wings against the harsh winds. Snow landing across his feathers and beak.
John watched as Ghost took the wind, soaring up over the tree line and dashing through the pine wood.
The trees bowed and swayed, bending as Ghost monitored the snowy forest floor. Seeing broken branches and trees bent all the way down the side of the embankment.
Sharp eyes surveying every inch until he spotted their goal. The large elk that had wandered it's way into their trap and woken their stomachs gnawing on some grass.
Ghost cawed, alerting John before diving toward the large beast.
Hearing his cry, John grabbed his axe, rushing through the flurry of snow. Past pine branches and into the thick darkness.
Following the deep trails of the elk until coming across the opening where Ghost was picking a fight with it.
Feet planted on the elks muzzle as it tried to shake him off and cant him away. Ghost squawked, flapping his wings into its face, disorienting it.
Before the elk could figure out what was happening, John slammed his axe in an upper cut, the blade lodging between the thick fur and skin, tearing at the ribs, making the animal cry.
Blood covered the pearl white snow, soaking into the flurry as it fought and then fell to its demise.
Ghost squawked, flapping his wings rapidly and landing on John's head and fluffing his feathers, stretching out one wing to finely clean the feathers.
John secured the elk to a rope and pulled it up over his shoulder. "You all good up there??" John reached up and Simon hopped along the top of his head, crooning his beak to peck at John's firm hand.
"Good lad. Let's get this back to a fire. I'm starving."
Simon flapped his wings, hopping down into the fur of John's cloak, snuggling up and puffing out his feathers a little.
They trekked back through the snow with their meal, heading back to the cave opening where they'd been set up to hunt game for the last week.
Their leather bed rolls laid across from each other, the rocks pulled up around thee scorched wood of last night's fire.
John set the elk onto a rock, grabbing out his dagger. "Get the fire going yeah?" Ghost nuzzled his beak against John's neck and flapped down into the snow.
Tight leather shoes crunching to the snow. Ghost wrapped his arms around his body, the cloth scarf that wrapped around his neck, one end falling to end at his breast, the other wrapped over his nose. Hiding his pale complexion amongst the flurry of snow.
His eyes still resembling the sharp, cunning gaze of the crow. Nimble hands wrapped in leather picking up wood from under their small camp out and replacing the old logs.
He looked up at John, his large muscles flexing as he split open the elk. Stripping the intestines and skinning the top from the meat of the animal.
He grabbed their chipped rocks from by John's bedside, striking them over the fresh wood and watching them catch light.
"How long will that last us?" He finally asks before blowing on the starting sparks of the fire.
"A week or two if we eat wisely." John replied, throwing the skin into a pile next to the rest of their leather, which they would use to package and conserve the meat in the cold climate.
"How long do you suspect we'll be out here?"
"Long enough. Why? Wanting a vacation already?" John chuckles softly.
Simon scoffs, folding one knee up to his chin, poking the fire with their stick. "No, just wondering."
A gentle silence followed. The howl of the wind passing by their small alcove but never entering. And the occasional noise of John chopping up the fat of the animal.
It wasn't a long process, they'd done it before.
When John was ready he pulled off part of the pure thigh meat. The slick slabs from each side laying in the snow.
For now he'd leave it. So he took the pieces up and sat near Ghost on the small rock carve out, his leather sleeping pad cushioning his arse barely.
He got the metal hook and slipped one of the slabs of meat onto it. The flames in the pit sparkling, popping and reaching up to the meat. Blood dripped into the fire, making it sizzle and crackle.
Ghost watched it. Still poking his stick around in the fire aimlessly. John noticed, even Simon's small amount of feather coverage around his forearms, shoulders and ears were barely enough against the wind that passed.
He unclipped his heavy cloak, pulling the emblem away from his neck, catching Ghost's attention.
It was a silent exchange when he laid the cloak over Ghost's shoulders. Watching him slightly slump as the fabric engulfed his body into the warmth that John's own body had.
Ghost pulled it close, sinking into it while he watched the fire.
John's large muscular shoulders bare to the cold weather turned slightly red around his neck muscle, dusted with barely noticable freckles.
Ghost looked over at him, shifting a little closer. John hummed softly, feeling Simon's smaller body closer to him, "We'll head back to the village soon for proper rest."
Simon hummed, staring into the fire. "We can get some alcohol too.."
John chuckles softly. "And alcohol, bloody yes we're getting alcohol."
Simon looks up at him, leaning slowly against his side. "You're a dumb drunk."
"Mm, well I can say the same about you."
John tucked the cloak in tighter, pulling Ghost right against him, surprising the smaller man.
He huffed softly, looking away at the ground, but it was warm. John's large hand wrapped around him, holding him protectively. There was always something so nice about it.
His eyelids fluttered slightly, drooping and allowing himself to lean in further to the side of the steady man.
A branch snapped, making him sit back up straight again.
John's attention also moved to the opening of the cave, placing a firm hand on Ghost's thigh. "Easy, just the wind." He assured.
Ghost slowly relaxed, looking back over at the snow covered land once more to double check.
John's arm remained protectively around him, holding his thigh, letting Simon curl up closely to him.
John poked the fire with the stick, splashing more embers up onto the meat. The time slowly ticked away as it cooked.
The small amount of feather coverage on Simon's forearms bristled. One arm poking out from the cloak, crooning his neck to nip at the mashed feathers and preen them back into place with his teeth.
John thought it was adorable. Sitting with him in that peaceful moment. Getting some time to just relax. Knowing they'd be out here for hunting season quite a while. But they made a good team, that's for sure.
I was gonna do more but got a road trip and I love these two. This was what I could splurge onto the page. I want more 😭😭

Nik and muses who can turn into animals mesh so well bc they can drop by this mf's house at anytime with not a single word of warning and he'll still 1. Know it's them 2. Pamper them without question and then never speak of it again.

He had flown from them, and they could not follow, but they had noted the location of his transformation back to a man, and sent a party there in the morning.
