So, the time has finally come. I have to say goodbye to my ESA, Bella. I’ve had her since the day she was born as her mother was mine and my ex’s dog. We’ve always had a special bond. She’s taken care of me in my darkest moments, and I’ve raised her beside my son who she views as a sibling. But she’s about 12 now, and her health has been declining for months. She’s had a lame leg for a few years now, and got around fine, but now her legs no longer hold her steady. She falls a lot, especially when she’s trying to potty, she has arthritis in her back and dysplasia in her hips. She’s been steadily losing weight for a year for unknown reasons to the point she’s emaciated now, and she has gall bladder disease on top of it. She’s also tearing herself up, literally tearing her fur out in places until she’s bloody. It’s time, in the next couple weeks I need to put her down. But she’s a big girl:

Getting her in the car is a painful and anxiety-inducing process for her. She suffers from anxiety same as I do and vets are always an ordeal for her. They are particularly hard on her now because they have slick floors & she has trouble walking on them. So I’ve decided the kindest thing I can do for her is pay for in-house euthanasia services. But, there’s no way I can pay the $550 it costs given my general level of pennilessness every month.

So. I’m asking everyone. If you can, chip in a few dollars to help the best girl to ever live have a gentle and peaceful end. If you can’t, I completely understand, but please share so someone else who can might see it. Thank you, it will mean the world to me.

Idk how many people follow me that are living in montreal, but my friends and I have been working on a project for over a year to open a space where people can come in to play board games, role playing games, larps, etc, and meet people who also want to play. A place to find DMs, or try a new board games.

We started a crowdfunder on La Ruche, if you can spare a few canadian bucks we would love it. We evaluated the price of tickets as low as possible for renting a space (after looking EVERYWHERE in the neighbourhood), and we have a lot of hope to be able to start our project and bring you loads of activities!

Bashaer’s @bshaeromars-blog father Abdullah has been diagnosed with liver hypertrophy! He has 3 large, growing masses on his liver that need to be removed IMMEDIATELY! His condition is advanced, and he urgently needs an operation to keep it from getting worse! He is already very very sick!

The operation costs $4,000 USD. Please share his household’s campaign and donate if you can!! He does not have much time left, and surgery is his only hope for survival!!

Here's how this repository works: all photos were taken by me, a human, at zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries, and other facilities with animals in human care. There is no AI involved in the photo editing or creation and there never will be. Right now there's 56 species on the site; my catalog has over 300 and I will be uploading the rest of them as fast as I can.

Artists creating derivative or transformative works (without AI) have blanket permission to use these references. Yes, even for work you're going to sell.

All other usage/reproduction requires permission, but assume I'm friendly and please do ask! That's educators, researchers, the media, people who need images for a school presentation, etc. This is just to retain copyright/control in case they're scraped/reused unethically - it doesn't meant I don't want folk to have access! So please do reach out via the contact form on the repository website, I don't bite and I'm most likely going to say yes.

Please don't repost the repository photos to your own blogs: I've created @animalphotorefs as a dedicated blog to share photos from the site, and of course I'll reblog a lot of it here! fahed and reem are the parents to five children. the prolonged attack on gaza and subsequent destruction of everything they've known has forced them to fundraise, but the oldest, sahar (@fahedshehab9), has been making videos to help spread the word. the thought of a young girl advocating for her family's survival in front of the world is as heartbreaking 10 months into cruel bombardment as it was on october 7, october 6, 2023, 2014, 2008, and every single day since 1948 when palestine was first shattered.

this is the current progress of their fundraiser. sahar has done a wonderful job spreading the word so far, but as of posting, they still need €18,634 to meet their goal.

dev gets hip surgery

realized i never actually made a post about this other than silly little afterthought ones. but here it goes- i'm officially having surgery on my hip the first half of june!

it's a pretty major surgery and the main objective is to remove a soft cell sarcoma they identified on an MRI

even with my insurance, it's going to be a large sum due up front in order to get the surgery and i am humbly, hesitantly, cautiously asking for help with this official post. initially, y'all have really come through and it's been such an amazing thing to see and be on the receiving end of. i'm so grateful for shares and support and donations received thus far, y'all have no idea how much it means to me that we are still capable of banding together to support each other despite recent drama

i'm still working as much as i can, but i am feeling the effects of everything and dealing with these issues for over a year now is catching up with me. 2 months of working and then filing for the necessary gov't aid will be all i'll have for the entirety of my 4-6 month recovery period- there are more details in the post below

Hi, this is a big post about my new TTRPG, Defy the Gods, which I’m Kickstarting soon. It’s a queer sword & sorcery adventure-romance set in fantasy ancient Mesopotamia. I was inspired by Conan, Clash of the Titans (1981!) and Princess Mononoke. (I've also got a BlueSky megathread going about it.)

(Btw hi I'm Chrys, a queer, trans game designer in Columbus, Ohio. This will be my second published game. The first was a furry pack of nonsense called Raccoon Sky Pirates.)

Defy the Gods is sword & sorcery as a story game. My favorite PbtA games emulate specific stories and lead you to resonant emotional moments like you find in those stories. Here, I used PbtA to emulate sword & sorcery, with an emphasis on the romantic moments—but also plenty of metal 🤘. You use the flirtation mechanics (taken from Thirsty Sword Lesbians) to tempt, support, or thwart others. But then, you can roll too high (taken from Apocalypse Keys), where you get more than you bargained for. Like Conan running out of the Tower of the Elephant while it crumbles around him.

Also like Conan, you have a glorious destiny, but in this case it ain’t good. Rising to your most powerful self makes you monstrous, heralding your character’s end as a hero and their beginning as an NPC antagonist.

It’s a queer game. You can fall in love with anyone, or make them fall in love with you. But because the game is also about power, the gods and tyrants wait to stomp on you if your enticement falls flat. Like if you flirt with someone in the wrong neighborhood. Every character has their own arc, and one of the things I had the most fun with was making those feel like queer problems as well as ancient-world sword & sorcery problems.

Play a fierce Sword, chaos-loving Sorcerer, fugitive Revenant, mischievous Sailor, immortal-sworn Vessel, or wild-raised Wolfling. (All character portraits by Thalie Shelen @thalieshelen)

The Sword is big-hearted and violent. You have a move that lets you kill any human-sized mortal NPC within arm’s reach, without rolling, if you’re not already in combat. This always causes more problems than it solves.

While most players roll just 2d6 & add their stat, the Sorcerer casts spells by rolling a lot of dice & looking for patterns in them. If you can’t find any patterns, your sorcery runs amok. This chaos is kind of lovely. For instance, you're always changing your body—sometimes on purpose, sometimes not. But always gorgeous.

The Revenant is like Inanna, or if Eurydice made it out. They escaped the land of the dead. They aren’t who they were in their past life, nor who they were as a shade. They're still figuring out who they are now. Demons pursue them to claw them back to the Underworld.

The Sailor can call on a cast of past friends and lovers for help. They always have a plan, and an eye for the exit. One of their moves lets you fill in the map of the otherwise unknown world.

The Vessel is in love with a minor god. They channel their patron’s power by wounding themself, but their patron can also soothe their pain.

The Wolfling was raised by animals in the Wilds and is curious about the humans, but they belong in neither world. They're definitely the part most directly inspired by Princess Mononoke.

The World Forces are the antagonist. You build them at the table, in quick rounds of pick lists. They are:

The Pantheon: gods, goddesses, and demons. They make the rules, but maybe you can break them.

The City: tyrants, the wealthy, and others with the gods' blessing. They push you to the margins, but you can fight to be seen.

The Wilds: gigantic creatures and their trackless wilderness home. It's place of danger and new rules, but you'll probably break them.

The Shadow of Atlantis: long-gone elders. They dared to scorn the gods, and the Pantheon destroyed them for it, but through you they may live again.

Death: a hungry, totalitarian force. Its underground domain is the end for all mortals and the mockery of hope. But maybe you can return.
