for andi, it'll most likely be property destruction. realistically speaking, having a souped up sword that can cut through any type of matter and destroy it down to its very atoms is great in combat, but not when you're in public spaces worth millions of dollars of infrastructure funds. she can say it's for the betterment of society that she got rid of the threat before it could do more harm to their fancy buildings

Highlight a FFXIV blog with an OC who is particularly loveable or endearing.

I stared at this one among the other asks for a bit, already knowing who I was going to choose:

@idalenn with their character, Lillian Kyo. I've been reading Lillian's journey through Ao3, and I'm always looking forward to that update.

Lillian is already a great character, though I really gotta recommend also giving idalenn's writing a read as well. Their use of words is so artful and vivid, giving great imagery to really make a setting feel that much more alive -- and it also really aids in noting the characters' habits and personalities.

The 'show, don't tell' in the writing is wonderful, and I can imagine people falling more in love with Lillian simply through these wonderfully woven words that I'm gonna just link right here for others to have a look at.

Aether / Dynamis

I've decided I'm going to do these posts by Data Center as I finish running through them. So, I present to you, our first (two) data centers!

Seeing as both had a smaller amount of addresses, I've combined them!

My first visit of the day was to the Allied Tribes Embassy, curated by @tristanneffxiv!

May I just say, this was a STUNNING homage to our beast tribe pals? The little displays in the basement were perfectly-made to reflect each one's vibe and location, and the BGM of the estate really tied it all together!

I highly recommend giving this place a visit! Especially if you've sunk time and energy into the beast tribes! It pays tribute to each down to even the paintings on the walls!

Just mind the back office. There's something... fishy going on in there.

My next visit was to @alkonosts' lovely home!

It was such a nice, vibrant cottage! Well-decorated and very cozy! The bed in the lower floor was beautifully framed by the windows, so I had to take a pose on it. <3

Also, amazing music choice! I had to stick around to see what it was that was playing when I first walked in! Needless to say I'll be getting my hands on that orchestrion roll real soon!

I was absolutely FLOORED by the layout of this home. Not only is the yard very well-manicured and beautifully decorated, but the interior is like walking into a fairytale witch's cottage!

It was a very enchanting interior, and I adored how you decorated the space! It was small, but very cozy. And the BGM lends itself very well to round out the ambience!

Very much worth stopping in if you're in the area!

I was told this apartment was decorated to emulate a staff room turned living space in the Great Gubal Library, and I feel they nailed it!

It has that feel of a transformed space, taking from the aesthetic of the Library, and adding a cozy, homely feeling to each room. The little study was one of my favorites, with the maps and other pages along the walls.

This was a VERY cute beach home! Very bright, and very BLUE!

And hidden beneath the cute decor is a fun little game! Can you find all the hidden plushies?

The BGM was also very fun to listen to as I ran to and fro looking around! I also may have found the hidden Raha. We love to see it.

Last song: POP/STARS. Yeah, I'm back on it again. I basically cycle K/DA songs as favorites and sprinkle in some Linkin Park and video game bgm to mix things up. I've liked the same kinds of songs since I was a youngling playing DDR and badly singing along to BeForU.

Favorite color: If I can only choose one, black. If I can choose an accent color, red. The "1337 gamer" aesthetic unfortunately has me under a sniper scope at all times, as I unironically love that edgy tech look. My style is "goth programmer" and I do not take criticism.

Last movie/TV show: Star Trek Enterprise. We're on the fourth and final season, as the show wasn't renewed for a 5th season. At least the creators knew it was coming, so the ending shouldn't be super jarring, but I've heard it's not at all what they originally wanted for it. Sad, I really like their long form storytelling. We also watched half of a sci-fi from 1993 called Cyborg^2: Glass Shadow last night. If you're wondering whether we've watched the first one. The answer is no, and we specifically skipped any flashback sequences - it's not really the kind of movie that you need to have your brain wrinkling for.

Sweet/Savory/Spicy: Sweet all the way, I'm basically a colony of sugar ants in the shape of a human. I'm terrible with spicy foods - I don't taste anything, my lips just hurt!

Relationship status: Happily married, we'll be celebrating 5 years married/11 years together next month :)

Last thing I googled: an error message that I hoped would be explained by stack overflow, only for google to find six links that were for completely different set ups/use cases, three sponsored ads for yet another hot new framework that's supposed to make my life easier but actually just installs tracking cookies everywhere while "helpfully" obscuring verbose debugging information, and a single link that was only semi-helpful in tracking down the problem. I'm not mad.

Hali reminds me of seafoam, mint, the sound of waves, and abalone shells!

This was such a cool list that I got inspired to make a moodboard with all of these things, which I don’t think it came out too badly.

So the seafoam and mint, which when referring to the colors, are nearly identical and it’s basically Hali’s eye color, which I really need to dress her in more of, but it makes for a beautiful moodboard. I added actual seafoam and mints as well. But what took me by surprise was the abalone shells! I was so used to seeing them from the outside that I didn’t know how beautiful they are on the inside! Especially the bottom right one, look how iridescent and vibrant those colors are!

✍: What does your character's handwriting look like? Do they write letters often? What other contexts do they usually write in, if any?

It's a little hard to read as the lettering and spacing is tight and small. However it is flowy and neat looking, almost like it was cursive. Normally she writes letters or in her journals. Later on in life it's notes about any orders she has for costumers.

🌸　animal: red squirrels. ( i genuinely couldn’t think of anything & asked my gf. it’s canon now ig /shrug ) for a ff based creature, she’d be a red chocobo or a tabby coeurl kit. 

🌸　color: pink! coral & rose pink are p distinct on her, but i also think pearlescent white, warm-toned colors, + gold accents are also fitting.

🌸　song: fellow feeling by porter robinson ( most things made by porter are a vibe tbh but THIS song?? oof from the lyrics alone; almost like i could hear the words being said as her own. the sound itself is v modern, but the initial calm that turns into chaos all contrasts so well against with what is being said in the song & kind of silhouettes what i imagine it must feel like for Hanaka to use her Echo / aetheric abilities?? it’s intense, maybe a bit scary to witness. she is incredibly strong when her power is wielded deftly, but it’s a painful process. also her h/c’d english VA* *subject to change is doing the speaking in the song! it’s all v good!! )

🌸　number: 2. She likes multiples of two. She usually prefers to go second in most things in her life, letting someone else take the lead so she can learn from their example. She is the kind to observe first, then act; always preferring a one-two step kind of plan.

🌸　day or night: she is the early morning, specifically the hours of 3~5 AM, when the world sleeps & the stars shine brightest. She is like dawn break over the horizon, shooing the stars to their beds with her sun-like smile. She is the comfort of knowing you’ve survived another night, the bleary sky a meld of purples & pinks into new day blues or early morning golds, dotted with flickering stars who will soon rest behind the fluffy clouds. Hanaka loves the night skies, but she herself is very much the dawn.

🌸　smell: initially, she smells like the plum & cherry blossoms she likes to use as her daily accessories. Her true scent is of Othardian poppies, Doman black tea, ginger root, natural musk, & a touch of something sweet akin to a marshmallow. ( it’s my headcanon that Hanaka just… always smells good lol because of her ability to sprout flowers from her body to heal herself & she is also just very well-groomed when able! )

🌸　gemstone: angel aura quartz, pearl, or argyle ( pink ) diamond!

🌸　season: late winter to early spring, right after the deep winter frost thaws; still cold outside but the snow is melting, maybe an occasional snow flurry. The plum trees have blossomed & warmer seasons are on their way; bird calls return to the mornings again, signaling the end of hibernation. The crisp air smells of rebirth & sweetness.

🌸　place: Yanxia. She was born in a small farming village beyond the Glittering Basin, now lost to war & time.

🌸　food: hanami dango ( her favorite dango flavor is azim strawberry! )

🌸　eorzean deity: i associate her with Azeyma ( mostly due to aesthetics ), though her patron is Althyk! Althyk makes more sense for her narratively imo.

30. Who do they most regret meeting?

instead of one person, tauvane actually regrets meeting two people, and they both had major impacts on her life

first was count zeumont, an undercover heretic and the man who essentially ruined her life by getting her addicted to dragon blood. what started as disinterest became something bigger for tauvane in her youth. something about him was vaguely exciting to her

while she knew the consequences of getting involved with a man like zeumont, someone above her station in social status and wealth, on top of her obligations to the convent she devoted herself to, she continued pursuing him as he did her. he took advantage of her naivete, her lack of self-esteem, and her desire to be loved. in the end she turned out to be something she's always hated, a monster

the second person was achille's father, a man named takami. takami was a simple man with nothing to his name and an obscured past, just his family of pirates on the ruby sea. tauvane was a stranger to the ruby sea who was injured and needed help. tauvane didn't mean to get attached to him, their relationship was nothing more than casual. but takami was the first person she met that made her feel human, someone who was genuinely cared for and valued

in a short moment tauvane imagined a life with him, a life with the confederacy and starting over fresh. she thought she could leave her traumas behind in ishgard, but they were like a shadow constantly at her back. and when the effects of her dragon blood addiction started becoming visible, she feared his reaction and dreaded the thought of being abandoned again, so she abandoned him—but not quite. she regrets meeting takami for multiple reasons; she believes that she took advantage of someone who deserved better. but by leaving she robbed a father of meeting his son, and a son who never knew his father

Heheee... I love Nomin and Estinien being soft with one another after everything they've been through. Both personally on their own, and with one another. It gives me life.

Let's see...

Whenever Estinien is home on the island from Thavnair, one of the first things he tends to ask Nomin after their reunion is if she needs help with her scales after learning that she has A Time™ taking care of some of those hard to reach ones. It took Nomin some time to warm up to the idea of having him help because she just became embarrassed about engaging in scale-care after she came to Eorzea and overheard some people talking about how strange and kind of gross it was.

It was a little overwhelming at first, having to follow some instructions on how Nomin applies some of her salves and creams to keep her scales and skin around them healthy.

I like to imagine that Estinien hates seeing her discomforted, especially from things out of her control. He never really understood it in ARR - ShB days when he saw her scratching at herself or excusing herself for long periods of time, but he understands better now that they're more receptive to each other.

What is something your character is deeply passionate about, and how does it drive their goals and motivations

Alannah's white whale is aetherology. She was born with chaotically unstable aether, which is a bit of a soul crushing buzzkill when your childhood dream is to be the next Shatotto.

Both her staff and her headpiece aid in stabilizing her aether, but she also has to paint arcanima all over her arms with specialized aether inks (she makes these herself) to keep her magic from going awry. White magic is also a lot easier to channel and control than black magic (idk if this is game canon but it's my canon), so this is how she is able to function as a mage.

But it still bothers her. She will never be satisfied until she can find a way to fix her aether and channel it without the need for stabilizers. It's an obsession, her personal library is full of obscure ancient tomes on aetherology and she's a frequent visitor to the Ossuary's extended archives. She spends most of her free time deep in her personal research, keeps obscenely extensive notes, and frequently consults with anyone who has any expertise or interest in the subject (it helps that being the WoL opens a lot of academic doors that would otherwise be closed to her).

It's a core motivation and beats at the heart of her. What Alannah loves more than anything is magic, what she wants more than anything is to achieve the same level of greatness and mythos as Shatotto.

Personally I think she's already succeeded, but Alannah won't see it that way until she's finally managed to fix her "fatal flaw" (which in reality is her insecurity and a whole lotta familial trauma to heal from, but ding ding that's the whole expanded character arc).

I wanna spend some time talking about my least talked about oc

so before everything went to hell in a handbasket, hector was a gentle, quiet guy. he didn't ask for much, but the one thing he would look forward to was andromache coming home. they used to spend a lot of time together traveling, but with andi's role as the warrior of light grew more hectic and dangerous andi forced hector to stay behind for his own safety (he didn't have the echo or any extraordinary strengths that could withstand the dangers andromache threw herself in)

add paris into the equation and it was obvious that they had to go their separate ways, but andromache always tried to find a way home. hector would often be seen waiting for andromache to return, even if it was for only a day, but it would be the happiest moment in his life to see her again. as for the second part of the question, the best moment yet to come was supposed to be andromache leaving behind the warrior of light lifestyle for good; it was doing more harm than good to their relationship and hector was looking forward to finally becoming a family of just the 3 of them...

none of that happened of course
