Ohh expand on your tags! Why is it that writers are ~problematic to actors?
Well since you ask! In that article John le Carré wrote about Phil, he talks about how "there's probably nobody more redundant in the film world than a writer of origin hanging around the set of his movie." Alec Guinness even had le Carré removed from set while they were making an adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy lol: "All I was wanting to do was radiate my admiration, but Alec said my glare was too intense."
I'm not sure "problematic" is the right word, perhaps more like... anxiety-inducing? because of that intensity. When the writer is involved in the filmmaking process, depending on the type of film, it's a lot of pressure — sometimes out of frustration, sometimes out of the utmost respect. Will their vision of the character align with the actor's? If not, does that mean the actor isn't doing their job well? Is the writer overstepping? In many cases I don't think writers get much respect on set at all, if they're there.
Many filmmakers with theater backgrounds, as Sidney Lumet writes, have a deeper appreciation for writers (compared with, say, Hollywood types):
I come from the theater. There, the writer's word is sacred. Carrying out the writer's intention is the primary objective of the entire production... I was brought up with the concept that the one who had the initial idea, who suffered through the agony of getting it down on paper, was the one who had to be satisfied.
In particular, he mentions writers who give up complete control (as they'd have with a novel, for example) to share control with a team of filmmakers (or, sometimes more accurately, to throw their story, their baby, to a team of wolves). That's very vulnerable, and very generous. As an actor, you want to live up to their expectations, but you also need to do your work as you interpret it.
Phil also spoke often about his near reverence for writers (screenwriters and playwrights like his brother and best friends, novelists, any kind) and their unique vulnerability:
I mythologize the writer. I don’t do that with any other artists... Ultimately, I think writing is a mixture of craft, inspiration, and being incredibly, courageously explorative with yourself—and being brutally honest, too.
I can’t imagine how a writer must feel when someone walks into the room and says, “I just read your book.” It’s a very vulnerable position to be in. Not the literalness of “Did you like it or not?” but really what that is about is “Do you like me or not?” If you do any great art you’re somehow exposing a part of you.
I'm probably biased but writers have an intensity, I think, that is different from that of other kinds of artists, and that's what many actors pick up on sets and elsewhere. Like Phil asking that the novelist (who he didn't know! She wasn't even a writer for the film!) be removed from set because of some intensity, some intuition he was picking up on. It doesn't happen on every picture or with every artist — but acting and writing are such vulnerable art forms in which YOU, really, are the product, more clearly than many other endeavors.
Am I explaining any of this clearly? I'm very tired after the week I've had. Lumet also wrote that writers had "a powerful magic" about them. Throwing filmmakers and writers together can be a total wreck or it can be a really beautiful (intense) collaboration

Sagittarius + 7H
sagittarius ⇢ what places would you like to travel in the future?
aaahhsdhsjsj EVERYWHERE. i would love to visit japan. id also love to go to ireland. and i think it would be super cool to go to egypt!!!
7H ⇢ what do you consider green flags in a relationship?
i think someone who doesn’t put down your interests or make you feel like you have to change in any way. i also think someone who respects your independence and doesn’t get jealous or insecure when you spend time apart, but isn’t detached and distant either. so someone you can trust and feel safe to be yourself around without any caveats. and someone who doesnt trivialize your needs or wants, no matter how trivial they may seem.

THE SHOWMAKERS
My patron @cullenrutherford requested Caesar and Peeta sketch and I’m here for that! I LOOOOOOOVE these two! Their dynamics! How they made the whole country scream! She came here with me! If it weren't for the baby! ICONIC DUO! I love them. I love them so much.
I consider the scene from my sketch takes place somewhere during the Victory Tour. Maybe a little talk just before the “proposal” interview. Just two people enjoying talking to each other ;)
