Introducing (formally) A STORY OF WATER: a series of black and white images exploring the shape of flowing water intersecting with life. 

WHY?

I wanted to look at flowing water’s beauty and mystery in nature, but remove it from nature to present it as its own entity. Showcase its many virtues and iniquities. Remind us that water ought to be treated with respect as one of Earth’s most precious resources. It shouldn’t be taken for granted. Water may be a basis for life, but it also is dangerous, capable of destruction and yes, the passing of life. Water travels a journey just as we do in life.

Water rarely sits still. About 71% of the Earth's surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5% of all Earth's water. The human body is 65% water, give or take. Water exists in the air as humidity, in rivers and lakes, in icecaps and glaciers, in the ground as soil moisture, in most living creatures.

There’s multiple conversations to be had about climate change, extreme weather, society’s use and some would say misuse, of water. But this little post would turn into a rant should I delve into it all.

Anyway, not to rant. 

Water is beautiful. I hope my images highlight some of that beauty. 

HIGH RESOLUTION.

Photographed in high resolution. What does that mean, you ask? It means, in a nutshell, there is much detail in the images. The gear I photographed with allowed me to capture details in high resolution. It means small and large-size printed artwork will look fabulous.  

LOCATION.

Photographed in and around The Current River over several weeks in an area largely untouched by man. What is almost my backyard: Cascades Conservation Area just outside Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada. 

WALLEYE MAGAZINE.

In the September issue of the arts and culture monthly, I speak in part about A STORY OF WATER, available in print throughout Thunder Bay, and south to Minnesota’s North Shore. Walleye also publishes online, so you may read it almost anywhere. Walleye Magazine and Bonnie Schiedel were very kind to interview me a few weeks ago. Stay tuned for the September issue coming out any time now.

Perhaps I've been watching too much Star Trek Discovery.

What you're viewing is some of the largest exposed precambrian rock on the face of Earth. Say that ten times fast.

While researching the area I surprisingly discovered the appearance of the Canadian Shield is not so much a result of folding, faulting or compression of rock over millions of years, but rather the work of ice in recent geological time.

So cool.
