Hello fellow herp keepers!! I want to make sure everyone doesn’t make the same mistake I did- I recently had one of my tempered glass doors on my 120 gallon explode. Thankfully no one was hurt- animal or person! (Gershwin was pissed though)
I did some research and learned that any tank that has glass- even a super lightweight one like mine, needs to be supported on ALL four corners to keep the glass structurally sound. I’m sure that this is something most people know already, but I never thought of it as the tank weights around just 20 pounds.
Tanks can warp over time- I’ve had this one for over 8 years now with no issues, but warping and pressure points must be kept in mind to avoid accidents like mine! I’m very lucky Gershwin was in a hide at the time.
To fix it, I’m putting in 2x4s to support the tank and adding a soft standing mat underneath to help cushion any imperfections and adjust for my in level apartment floors.
Gershwin pic for good luck! Keep an eye on your glass folks
