Sometimes people get their start in fandom with something like, idk, the MCU or light action shows like Supernatural or children's fantasy like Warriors (this last example said with love), where the writing is an inconsistent mess, characterization can change on a dime, there's no themes stronger than like "family" or "stop the bad guy from changing our way of life". And their fandom experience is taking the hints of interesting ideas presented and dropped and spinning them into something interesting, or just fluffy and fun, and then discarding the rest.
And then these people come to a piece of art that like. Actually has themes and good writing and a coherent vision, but they're still trained on The Giant Trash Heap That Must Be Sorted Through, so they start their routine of excising fun yaoi moments and throwing the rest in the trash, except now the rest is like. A professionally made passion project by a group of skilled writers with a hundred years writing experience between them, and this fan is writing the same coffee shop AUs as ever. And it makes something that feels same-y and fandom out of something unique and well-made and, well, interesting.
And like. That's their prerogative, more power to them, but it makes me wanna pull my hair out to talk to these people about a piece of media I actually care about beyond that Trash Heap level.
And if you're someone whose only fandom experience has been Trash Sorting and you're running into people arguing with you abt their favorite piece of media, give them a second thought I guess?

i think the concept of "Ally" as a state of being, and not as a descriptor of actions taking, is incredibly bad, because a person can consider themselves an Ally while doing terrible things that specifically hurt minorities, but it's okay, they're an Ally.

Shit I’ve learned about Disco Elysium without having played Disco Elysium:
You play the most disgusting pathetic being ever to exist.
Your partner is a more run-of-the-mill pathetic loser man and he is so excited to have someone around who sucks more than him.
There is a small child named Cuomo who does barbituates and know the exact slur to use to kill you instantly.
It will literally kill you because all damage in this game is potentially lethal, and most of it is from either getting your feelings hurt or staring at a lightbulb for too long.
Instead of boring shit like “Strength” or “Wisdom” your stats are like “Cartesian Dualism” and “Ability to Top”. They also talk to you.
Its about a police investigation
Its about communism
Its about gay sex
With a corpse?
It takes place like 30 years after Pathologic
It takes place in a rich and absolutely bizarre world the creators painstakingly sculpted over a decade. Most of it has no relevance to the plot and the rights now belong to a shitty game studio.
I should pirate it.
I should really play it.

its been a year and change and the Bridget thing is still fuckin crazy to me. like if you were at all in like gaming or anime or just meme forums in the mid-00s Bridget was like... hello, let's learn about gender nonconformity, and let's do it by sexualizing this teenager and presenting this nonconformity as a joke and a deception! and then the next decade the anime community saw more of these characters and that template of sexualization, of Traps, was followed, and Astolfo practically outcompeted fucking SABER AND RIN as a popular Fate character.
And then 2021. Middle of the pandemic. These characters and thsi treatment is the norm, more and more people are identifying with them. And then. She's back. Bridget is in Strive, the most popular game Guilty Gear has had in a decade, if not ever. And she looks at the camera and says "Actually I'm a girl."

When I say "Birds are Dinosaurs" and you say "No you know what I mean, when we say dinosaurs we mean Something Else" I think like... you don't know what I mean.
There's sort of a constructed category of dinosaurs as these scaly, powerful, outdated animals, and birds as these delicate modern animals, and I want you to understand that these ideas are based on outdated science and human biases. That birds can and have grown huge and predatory, that dinosaurs were a hugely diverse group that had grazers and small arboreal animals and fast intelligent ones.
Birds are a category of dinosaur, the only one we have left around. Appreciate them, demythologize dinosaurs, and destroy the boxes you put nature into.

obviously transmisogyny manifests itself in, like, specific ways like the assumption we're a bunch of sexual predators, but to some extent there's a clear trend among people even in the queer community to just... still be uncomfortable witb Trans Women, as an identity?
Consider the recent backlash against the idea that Twitch user LillyAnarKitty might be transfem; people were call it "disgusting" and "disrespectful" and like... please stop and think about that reaction. You see it in "egg discourse" where people are CLEARLY uncomfortable with the label trans woman being even offered to anyone who isn't already openly using it. Or the persistant idea that being a gnc man is somehow more "radical" and "challenging" than the trans woman, even thoigh there's an entire subset of conservatives who fetoshize the former and want to kill the latter. Or even something as small and minor as the propensity to discuss transmisogynistic caricatures in media as just generally genderqueer.
IDK, just... recognize that "trans woman" is something you yourself might have discomfort with, and just practice getting comfortable with someone assigned male and gone through t being a proud she/her woman, no caveats.

Mohn might be the funniest thing Pokemon ever did. The entire plot of SuMo is the story of this broken family, all destroyed by the disappearance of the father and husband. The mother went crazy for portals trying to find him and desperately tightens her grip on everything she can, the kids buckle under her and each flee with a stolen pokemon. One of them even goes goth. And All the while the narrative asks; what happened to their father? Where is he?
He's on bean island. He's the bean man. He's been guiding you through the Magical Bean Minigame on your bottom screen for the entire game.

i am personally of the belief that body shaming men is bad even if they're not marginalized in some way. like sometimes i see posts that are like "dont forget! by shaming bald people you're also shaming some trans women, transmascs, etc!" and like. maybe body shaming is just bad.

i try to stay evenhanded but man i see fucking red when people adamantly refuse to accept that "futa" porn and one's reaction to such porn and characters is connected to trans womanhood.

I notice that a lot of tme trans people walk into transmisogyny discourse talking about the obscurity or contradictory nature of their identity (theres the classic misogynist with Fagdyke in bio) and I think it's mostly because that's the primary form violence and bigotry between tme trans people take? Nonbinary identities and questions of who can use what slur, stuff like that. The kind of thing that truscum start harassing people over. To these people, that's often the shape of intra-queer violence? But transmisogyny is just an entirely different axis.
And this disconnect manifests in a few ways. For one, the symbols of safety against truscum types (fagdykery, a pet cis guy) do not signify anything of the sort to trans women, so we get puzzling posts like "a pet cis guy is proof there's no TERFs", meanwhile TERF groups can be over half cis men, because TERFism's primary focus is trans women. We get people showing up to discussions of transmisogyny flashing their seemingly-contradictory identity as something like a badge of Queerer Than Thou. At its worst, its using the language of this kind of identity discourse to attack the language transfems use to describe ourselves and our oppression ("tme is rebinarizing me!")
All this, of course, is ignoring that one of the ways transmisogyny manifests is the assumption that tma people have a more simplistic relationship to gender than other queer people do.
