Maybe what your European plans need is some time up north. Specifically, a trip to Oslo. Although smaller than many major metropolises, Norway’s capital city is big enough to host major players in the worlds of art, music, and culture—but still small enough that you can literally take the subway to go skiing. (Yes, really!) An emphasis on ecology and renewable energy has made the city relatively trash free. And thanks to a national love affair with coffee, you’re never far away from the good stuff.

Oslo er en nydelig by med mange pene bygninger og gater, samt litt natur imellom. Jeg føler meg helt hjemme her.

Hey! You’re living in Oslo, I’m visiting there for the second time now and was wondering if you have some tips on restaurants, bars, cool things to see etc.. I’ve already been to the main locations like Opera, Karl Johan, Vigelandsparken and those places so now I really want to know where the locals go! Xxx
I’m a local and I love going back to Vigelandsparken and the Opera for walks haha
Eat pizza at Villa Paradiso in Grünerløkka
Grab drinks at Torggata Botaniske or Himkok
Visit the Astrup Fearnley Museum
Take the tube up and walk around Sognsvann on a clear and beautiful day (and bathe in the lake if it’s summer)
Order a coffee or tea (and cake) at Palmen restaurant (Grand Hotel)
Play shuffleboard and grab a bear at Tilt
Watch a concert at Rockefeller or Sentrum Scene (so many artists put this place on their tour list so check the website when you’re here)
Walk around Grünerløkka, some really nice vintage shops, bars and cafées in that neighborhood
Wanna go to a spa one day, then The Well or Daikai is heavenly
For a nice walk and view among art and sculptures, you have Ekebergparken
Burgers at Kverneriet or Munchies
Crispy duck at Dinner restaurant
Sushi and Asian fusion food at Hanami (more pricey but fuck so good)
Walk around the botanical garden at Tøyen, make sure to visit the palm house and the Victoria house
Sørenga and Vippa for relaxation/food/ocean views
During summer, take the ferry out to one of the islands in the fjords (Gressholmen or Langøyene for ex) and bathe, lie in the sun and read
Arakataka is another great restaurant
Tapas and cava at Delicatessen restaurant
Wander among small tree houses at Damstredet (not very big but so cute)
Take the bus, boat, bike to Bygdøy on a sunny day and take walks among grassing cows, fields and flowers
Mathallen is a big arena/house filled with small restaurants, fun to walk around and taste a little bit here and there
