here's the thing. to outsiders it may seem like we're excited because "phan is real!!" or whatever. but they don't know... it's not about that. phan has been real this entire time. there's always been evidence that dan and phil were together, more or less (more evidence than I think some people realize). the reason phan™ is such a big deal is because two silly gay boys met online in 2009, but their fame quickly outgrew their comfort zone and they quickly went back in the closet. dan was so traumatized from being bullied in school that he had a public meltdown on tumblr in 2012 insisting he was straight after some very private stuff leaked (that he insisted was a unused prank). after going to therapy and meeting so many queer fans on tour, dan slowly began to hint again that he was queer. but it still took them until 2019 to officially come out! and like. dan essentially confirmed that yes all the public online flirting back in 2009/2010 between him and phil was very real and that they were "more than just romantic" at that point and were currently "real best friends, life companions, and soulmates." but that was it, they weren't going to share any more. which is perfectly fine, but some of that definitely had to do with dan wanting to explore himself outside of the Dan and Phil™ brand (which unfortunately he got fucked over by the pandemic and by YouTube in the process). however they did eventually make a very cute announcement that they had bought and designed a new house together. and bit by bit they started making some more coupley jokes about each other here and there and sharing glimpses of a bedroom with both of their stuff in it, though it was still fairly subdued. but then dan finally got to go do his solo comedy tour and when he came back, shit suddenly CHANGED. 2023 was wild. they brought back their joint gaming channel they hadn't touched in five years since just before they came out. and they basically started the public flirting again??? this time on camera??? maybe not as direct as the 2009 stuff at first but. it's definitely been building up close to it. and then Dan finally releases his comedy special for free on YouTube. Phil writes a gushy tweet about it. and dan just replies with 🧡. ...except for within a larger birthday tweet in 2023, dan had not used a heart emoji for phil since like... 2010??? and then suddenly he screenshots this interaction and POSTS IT ON HIS YOUTUBE COMMUNITY TAB with the caption "gay" and a link to his special. like. this isn't about confirmation... the people who have been saying that they probably aren't together or that you shouldn't think or wonder if they are were like, the twitter morality police, ex-phannies, and generally clueless people. tumblr phannies clearly have known that they've been gay for each other for the past 15 years. but this whole "gay 🧡" incident is the first time Dan Howell has very publicly said something like this about his relationship while being "unapologetically gay" as a very public figure (there's been some magazine interviews that technically have come close but, nothing as direct as this). like that is so fucking huge??? that he and phil are finally comfortable enough online, on YouTube, and in life, to go there!!! as we are now approaching fifteen years of them together too!!! like, it's so nice to get to celebrate such a happy queer relationship and expression of queer joy. and dan has hinted that bigger stuff is coming too... like. yeah phan is real I guess 🙃

I enjoy quite a few YouTubers and Twitch streamers, and these are the ones I've followed that have spoken up about Palestine:

Hasan Piker is a Twitch streamer and political pundit who has been covering Gaza and raising money for medical aid for Palestine since Day 1. He raised a million US dollars divided among these orgs all the way back in October and has not stopped centering Palestinian voices since then. Of all Western influencers, he's the biggest voice in raising awareness and support for the people in Gaza and Palestine as a whole.

Thomas "Tomska" Ridgewell (of ASDFmovie fame) called his MP in the UK to call for a ceasefire months ago. Though it may seem like a comparatively small act, I highlight it because he did it very early on, and publicly called for a ceasefire in a video in November.

"I'm not neutral because my country is standing in support of one side of it [...] For all I know my taxes, my money is being spent on the bombs that are being dropped on the people in Gaza. So I'm not neutral. For all I know I'm entirely complicit [...] It just feels like we're being told to look away, [...] close your eyes and stick your fingers in your ears and when you turn back the situation won't be complicated anymore because Gaza will be gone."

More recently:

Now I don't follow Dan & Phil, but I strongly believe that them raising money for the PCRF was a tipping point for certain other creators finally going public with their own pushes for relief in Gaza. And maybe it's just a coincidence, but nonetheless it's a big deal.

Jacksepticeye quietly donated $10000 to a fan-run relief effort that would divide proceeds between the PCRF and E-Sims for Gaza. When the fan announced it, he then went on to publicly post about the horrors of Gaza and retweeted how to provide aid and resources.

During his yearly Thankmas event, he also raised millions for the World Central Kitchen, which is currently providing food in Gaza (depending on what relief can get through the crossing being blocked by Israeli protestors).

Of the "big" YouTubers, he's always been the most candid about his beliefs, so I always liked him regardless, and his actions have been heartening but thankfully not surprising.

And tomorrow, Drawfee is doing a charity stream for PCRF! Support them if you can. Their previous charity stream for Pride and Trans rights raised over $108000 for the Stonewall Community Foundation in 2023.

I love Drawfee in particular. This was heartening to see today.

Anyway, I genuinely hope this pushes more creators to finally speak out. Even if it's late, it's always better late than never, and their influence is massive.

How We Can Get Golden Pig Phil

Alright, so there is a collective effort right now to get Golden Pig Phil on the gaming channel poll. And while there is a bunch of campaigning around why Phil should win the Golden Pig poll, there isn't much around how he can win and how achieveable it is for him to win.

Lets look at the numbers:

CURRENTLY! (As of around 1:15pm UTC+1 or London Time)

Phil is only about 8% of the votes behind. We have made quite the impact from the results around 20 minutes after the poll was posted yesterday which was Dan at 69% and Phil at 31%.

Alto? You may ask. Its almost 24 hours since the poll has been posted, what if we have done all we can?

This is where I have evidence that we still have time AND that there are still a SIGNIFICANT amount of votes that can and need to be counted!

The Previous DAPG Polls

If we take a look as to where all the previous polls are resting on the Youtube Community Tab, you will notice something interesting.

All of them rest around 100k votes in total.

That means there are around 100k DAPG subscribers who vote in the community polls. With the current Golden Pig Poll, we are at around 52k. This means there are still about 48,000 accounts/people who have not voted yet.

If we break down the current votes and percentages in the Golden Pig Poll, the current votes rest at the following:

30,160 votes for Dan.

21,840 votes for Phil.

Those 48,000 accounts that havent voted can change the entire outcome of the poll!

Along with that, I am fairly confident that they arent going to pull the results until a little later OR a little closer to that 100k voting marker.

Why you may ask? We can look towards the Dil's job poll.

In the screenshot, we can see they took the results of the poll from when it was at around 97k votes, which isnt that significant of a differences from the 98k it currently rests at.

Surely they know how many of their subscribers typically participate in the Youtube Community Polls on average. And, for this situation, I am going to bet that they arent going to film the Golden Pig video until either later this evening OR until tomorrow or a few days from now. Dan has just had the Bath event yesterday and it hasnt even been at least 24 hours since the poll went live.

To give enough time for the poll AND to give Dan the chance to rest a moment after getting back from his book event, it would make the most sense to wait a little bit until filming the video.

So there is still a really good opprotunity for us to turn this poll around.

Calls to Action!

Now, in order to capitalize on the opprotunity in order to get Phil to be the Golden Pig, we have a few very simple actions that can we taken.

If you are a part of the 48k who have not submitted their vote - Go Submit Your Vote For Phil!

Its as simple as that. On average, there are about 48k who havent voted on the Golden Pig poll as of yet. Every vote counts! (And while you are at it, make sure you are registered and know when your own local elections are IRL because voting matters then too!)

If you have already voted for Dan - Switch Your Vote to Phil!

The advantage of them conducting these polls on the Youtube Community Tab is the fact that we have the ability to change our vote at any time. If you voted Dan but are on the fence now after seeing all the Golden Pig Phil posts, you have nothing to lose by switching to Phil. You can change your mind and vote later if you so wish. You can even change it back to Dan if you decide that is where your vote should go. There is no limit to switching your vote, you are not locked into your gut answer.

If you have already voted for Phil - Keep Campaigning for Golden Pig Phil!

We still need to reach those 48k people who haven't voted. And, we still need to convince anyone who might have not been confident in their Dan vote OR who might be persuaded by the campaign for Golden Pig Phil to go and switch their vote.
