Casting Otonashi Ichie in More Roles in a Month Than BushiRoad Gives Her in a Year Because She Deserves It Part 7: Dansou Idol 🕺♂️

This design might be the first AU Ichie I ever dreamt up. If Ichie returned to the idol world, she would make a fantastic centre with everything she's learned about performing.

Since my all time favourite idol group (Fudanjuku) is a dansou idol unit, I came up with this masc alter ego for Ichie named Hajime.

I have dansou idol designs & pseudonyms for all 5 Rinmeikan girls, since I think they'd make such a good group. Maybe someday I'll post my old art of them!

¹ Although the lyrics explicitly say car radio, the fact that the girl grips the singer’s shoulders (and that a later stanza mentions zigzagging through the beach), coupled with the singer’s “bad boy” image makes me think that the vehicle in question is actually a motorcycle. And yes—apparently it is possible to install a car-radio on a bike.

April 2022 Monthly News Round-Up

It’s round-up time! Below the read more is a compilation of some notable news stories that we haven’t previously posted about. This month features, two units changing their names, a previous reported to be disbanded unit re-starting activities, and always more!

ael >>> Pipping Hot

The dansou unit have announced that they have changed their name from Ael to Pipping Hot with an intentional misspelling. More info in English can be read HERE .

Amino Coromi

The member of Melon Batake a Go Go and The Grateful MogAAAz, has announced that she will be graduating from both groups in August. She will be remaining with Gollipop Records. [x*]

ASP

Former HKT48 member Kaede Kamijima, who during the audition was referred to as Ayuna C, is now called CHiTCHiCHiCHiiCHiiCHii, and Kanaedemon is now RiONTOWN. These annoucements being made since they passed the WACK 2022 audition and joined the group. [x*]

Hinatazaka46

Member Miho Watanabe will graduate from the group after activities for their seventh single conclude. [x*]

HKT48

Member Hinata Matsumoto has announced that she will being graduating from the theater on April 28th, and her concert will be June 27th. [x*]

lyrical school

All members, minus Minan have announced that they will be graduating from the group in late July 2022. [x*]

Manaminorisa

The group has announced after 16 years together, will disband on April 1st 2023. [x*]

Maneki Kecak

The group announced that members Miyu, Rin, and Reona will be graduating in Spring 2023. [x*]

Seiza Hyakkei

Five members of the original lineup have decided to restart the group after their disbandment concert. One returning member will be taking a 1-2 month break after their concert. The two members leaving will have graduation concerts. [x*]

SKE48

Aki Wakita has decided to leave the group days after her initial appearance and debut. She cited difficulties balancing idol life and schooling. [x* .

TEAM SACHI

The group will leave current label Warner Bros subsidy UnBORDE. They will be restarting under their own label in August. [x*]

Yanakoto Sotto Mute

The group has announced that they will be disbanding on June 26th 2022 after a final tour. Members Nadeshiko and Ichika will be withdrawing from the the music sphere. Nadeshiko focusing on her health, and Ichika focusing on a new pursuit. Ichika did not want to continue without the current line up, but has not mentioned future plans. Ayaka mentioned she will be leaving the group as she didn’t feel confident taking the leadership position, but no future plans as of yet. [x*]

ZOC >>> METAMUSE

ZOC announced on April 20th, that after their final tour date of July 7th 2022 they will be changing their name to METAMUSE. [x*]

26-Ji no Masquerade

The group have announced that they will disband after their October 3oth concert. Their main reason for disbandment being the ongoing complications from the pandemic. [x*]

Hoops fans being worried that ael will be treated as an afterthought in the new project while FDJ will be the main draw and receiver of attention feels very strange to me, as Hoops have always been the group with the money to me, and FDJ the senpai who had to keep struggling while their little brother were given a lot.

But I guess that was only true when they had different productions. Srlsy why aren't the Hoops under Universal anymore? The only explanation I can think of is that Universal dropped them, bc who would chose to leave a major for an indie? Esp. as Teichiku really hasn't proved their ability to raise a dansou group to the top...

There might be 1 other option, which is that the whole move is to save Axell, who was going precisely nowhere, but idk what agency would risk a group who is doing well for the sake of one that isn't.

Speaking of which, I haven't heard anything from Axell fans. Probably bc I don't know any who isn't primarily a Hoops fan. I have seen people point out that much more was changed abt Axell in the transition to Euphoria, but lbh this move might really be the best thing that happened to them. Ok, partly bc I'm glad Kai got in, but I do have big hopes for Kai... they're kinda dumb but that can definitely be a plus for an idol!

The other thing I'm wondering about is if the concept change might have been done to alleviate the weight on the 2 younger groups' members. The rules they had to follow even off screen/stage were pretty constricting, and maybe some of them voiced complaints? It might have been ok if they were all like Haruki, but even then, people change, and being stuck in a rigid public image & look can't feel comfortable in the long run.

And then there are FDJ fans worried that the new groups will be leeching off FDJ. Like. How big do they think FDJ is? I don't want to be a downer but imho FDJ doesn't have the power to push another group up, the brother groups will have to work for themselves anyway. I actually think it might be beneficial to all, as they'll bring what little exposure they get on to eachother.

I hope the dreamBoat con will be streamed and will be a very joyful event, bc we need to see a lot of enthusiasm from all members to alleviate the current tension. (And to be fair the only ones able to show a reaction to the news so far, FDJ, haven't shown much...)

Manga the Week of 1/5/22

SEAN: Welcome to 2022, a year unlike any other (and hopefully nothing like 2020 or 2021). What manga do we have?

Well, we start with light novels, as Yen On debuts Cross-Dressing Villainess Cecilia Sylvie (Akuyaku Reijou, Cecilia Sylvie wa Shinitakunai no de Dansou Suru Koto ni Shita). It’s an otome game villainess story, but this time our heroine, instead of changing the way she lives her life, decides to completely disguise herself… as a boy!

We also see Unnamed Memory 4.

Yen Press has just one title, and it’s an artbook. Visions 2021__Illustrators Book covers 170 artists from Pixiv, showing off their stunning artwork.

ASH: Other artbooks from Yen have been nicely done, so this definitely has potential.

SEAN: No debuts for Viz Media, but we do see the final volume of Love Me, Love Me Not.

MICHELLE: Man, already?!

ANNA: I’ve been collecting this series, but am several volumes behind. Looking forward to binge reading the rest of it.

SEAN: We do get a new side story, but as it’s one volume it’s more of a one-shot. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba–Stories of Water and Flame is a short story manga volume based on the super popular manga.

ASH: I’m far behind on Demon Slayer, but am still curious about this one.

SEAN: Also from Viz: Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 13, Dragon Ball Super 15, Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits 7, Mashle: Magic and Muscles 4, Moriarty the Patriot 6, My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions 2, My Love Mix-Up! 2, Snow White with the Red Hair 17, Twin Star Exorcists 24, and Undead Unluck 5.

SEAN: Tentai Books slipped out a release this week while I wasn’t looking. From Toxic Classmate to Girlfriend Goals (Yatarato Sasshi no Ii Ore wa, Dokuzetsu Kuudere Bishoujo no Chiisana Dere mo Minogasazu ni Guigui Iku) is another in what is almost becoming a genre, the “girl sitting next to me has a bad reputation but is really just covering up her embarrassment” genre.

ASH: I’ll admit to liking this particular subgenre.

SEAN: Square Enix Manga debuts My Isekai Life 01: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World! (Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life – Daini no Shokugyou o Ete, Sekai Saikyou ni Narimashita) has as its one thing different from all other books in the genre that our hero is not coming from Japan, but from a fantasy world where he already had a class. Just a weak one. Now he has two! And is strong!

We also see The Apothecary Diaries’ 4th manga and Ragna Crimson 4.

ASH: Looking forward to reading more of Apothecary Diaries.

MELINDA: I haven’t even started Apothecary Diaries but I admit to being very drawn to it for the title alone.

SEAN: Only one debut for Seven Seas, but it’s a biggie: Kamen Rider: the Classic Manga Collection. This 850-page omnibus has all 4 volumes of the original 1971 manga in hardcover format. This was the inspiration for most anything you’ve ever loved.

ASH: That’s a pretty easy sale for me.

SEAN: Also from Seven Seas: Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor 13, Blue Giant 7-8, Chronicles of an Aristocrat Reborn in Another World 3, How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord 13, Magaimono: Super Magic Action Entertainment 2 (the final volume), Manly Appetites: Minegishi Loves Otsu 3 (also a final volume), The Tale of the Outcasts 4, and Time Stop Hero 3.

MICHELLE: I’ve been meaning to check out Blue Giant and Manly Appetites.

ASH: Manly Appetites has been a delight.

SEAN: Kodansha Manga has print books! Including the debut of The Hero Life of a (Self-Proclaimed) “Mediocre” Demon!, which came out digitally last year.

We also see Battle Angel Alita 4 and Eden’s Zero 14.

Debuting digitally is My Idol Sits the Next Desk Over! (Oshi ga Tonari de Jugyou ni Shuuchuu Dekinai!), also in the ‘sweet romance with the girl sitting next to me’ genre, only this time our protagonist is also a girl.

ASH: I don’t mind that twist.

MELINDA: Here for it.

SEAN: ANN also reports that Kodansha has Hiraeth: The End of the Journey (Hiraeth wa Tabiji no Hate), a Morning Two title from the creator of Our Dreams at Dusk. It’s already an award winner, and starts off dark, as a woman who wants to see her friend who has died tries to kill herself. She’s stopped by two travelers who take her on a journey.

ASH: Oh!

MELINDA: This sounds potentially great.

SEAN: There’s also Girlfriend, Girlfriend 7, I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability 4, Kounodori: Dr. Stork 19, My Darling, the Company President 2, My Master Has No Tail 2, and Princess Resurrection Nightmare 7 (the final volume).

Kaiten Books has three new print titles for books they’ve previously released digitally. We get Loner Life in Another World 4 (manga), My Dad’s the Queen of All VTubers?! 2, and Welcome to the Outcast’s Restaurant! 1 (manga).

Quite a bit from J-Novel Club. The Apothecary Diaries 4, Black Summoner 7, Guide to the Perfect Otaku Girlfriend: Roomies and Romance 4, Hell Mode 2, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom 7 (manga), I’ll Never Set Foot in That House Again! 3, Jessica Bannister and the Family Secrets (4th in the series), Marginal Operation 11, Monster Tamer 7, The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes 2, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: The Wayward Journey 15, and A Wild Last Boss Appeared! 7.

ASH: That is quite a bit!

SEAN: There’s also more than usual for Ghost Ship. The debut is Into the Deepest, Most Unknowable Dungeon (Fukafuka Dungeon Kouryakuki: Ore no Isekai Tensei Boukentan), which runs in Mag Garden’s Comic Blade. There’s a dungeon that has repelled even the strongest armies. But our recently dead and reincarnated from Japan hero knows how to take them on: with a group of hot and powerful women.

ASH: Obviously.

SEAN: Ghost Ship also has Ero Ninja Scrolls 2, JK Haru is a Sex Worker in Another World 2 (manga), Parallel Paradise 8, and Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs 17.

Speaking of publishers sneaking out volumes without telling me, I’m TWO weeks late in noting that Inside Mari 8 is out from Denpa Books!

Dark Horse has the 8th Gantz omnibus.

Airship, in print, has Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs 4.

And digitally they give us Planet of the Orcs 2.

November 2021 Monthly News Round-Up

It’s round-up time! Below the read more is a compilation of some notable news stories that we haven’t previously posted about.

This month features,the end of another dansou group, new members across a few WACK groups, and always more!

AKB48

Member Shizuka Oya announced that she will graduate from the group on December 28th. [x*]

ASP

Member NAYU departed both ASP and WACK on November 24th. She has withdrawn due to her leg injury worsening due to her current activities. [x*] The group then added twins Matilder and Wonker to the group. [x*]

BiS

A new member, Nano3 (written in full Nanonanoano) joined the group on November 4th. [x*]

EUPHORIA

The group has announced that they will cease activities on November 14th. Member Toa Utaori had previously announced their graduation, but Minato Aoi will also graduate from the group and end activities as an idol. Members Kokoro Tosaki and Itsuki Kaidou will continue activities as idols, and find new members. Their new group, when it’s formed will inherit the ‘will’ of Euphoria and will be able to perform the former unit’s songs. [X] [Official Statement in Japanese]

Member Rio Shimizu will graduate the group. Her graduation date is December 20th 2021. [x*] Member Kaede Kamijma announced that she will be gradating from the the group on January 9th, 2022 her final performance being January 7th 2022. [x*]

The former leader of the group, Mika Ichinose, has withdrawn fully from the group due to poor physical condition. [x*]

Necronomidol

Former member Nana withdrew from the group on November 11th after inappropriate photos of her were posted. [x*]

NMB48

Member Keito Shiotsuki tested positive for COVID-19. [x*] Member Momone Yasuda has announced that she will be graduating from the group. Her final dates haven’t been announced yet. [x*]

Nogizaka46

Member Minami Hoshino resumed activities on November 7th, after going on hiatus after being seen with a man. [x*] Member Ranze Terada announced that she will be graduating from the group on December 12th, and retiring from the entertainment industry as well. [x*] Member Mai Shinuchi will graduate the group at the end of January 2022. [x*]
