A word of advice: before you accuse someone of posting AI-generated wizard art, give David Mattingly's gallery a once-over and see if you can spot it there. Like 90% of the popularly memed-upon paintings of wizards on this site are his work, and it'd be real embarrassing if you accused, say, the cover illustration of a mass-market paperback from 1993 of being AI-generated.
David Mattingly, 'The Apocalypse', ''Questar'', Vol. 2, #3, June 1980
According to the magazine I lifted this illustration from, it was a rejected cover for a Rick James album. There's no real information as to which album but Mattingly states that he liked his work and decided to finish the piece for his own satisfaction. To me it could easily be some VHS box cover art for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie from the 80s.
