Uh-
just found out my cousin (who lives in England) is in the art department of a bunch of shows??? And she worked oN DOCTOR WHO? AND HAD LUNCH WITH DAVID TENNANT???? and she just told me so casually because she's interested in the art, not the show? I mean, excuse me? She worked on SHERLOCK???? FOR A WHOLE SEASON?? She worked on Peaky Blinders and Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones??? And probably other things because she has a shitty memory and according to her everything is a blur?? AND AT ONE POINT SHE WAS LIKE: "oh and have you ever heard of Neil Gaiman?" And I was trying not to scream, because yes, of course I've heard of Neil, he's only my favorite author, I've only read like all of his books multiple times, and if you say you worked on Good Omens or the Sandman I'm going to lose it completely. So I said "yeah I've read a couple of his books," -you know, like a liar- "what about him?" and she goes "well I worked on one of his shows and he's brilliant i just can't remember which one" and i go "w-what do you mean he's brilliant? You're.. you're talking about his writing... his writing is brilliant, right?" And she cheerfully says "oh no I don't read books, I ment he was really nice and brilliant when I talked to him" and i go "WHAT DID YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT DID YOU TALK ABOUT" and she thinks for a moment and goes "oh! BRICKS" WHAT IN THE WORLD YES NO THAT MAKES SENSE YOU GET TO WORK AND TALK WITH NEIL FUCKING GAIMAN AND YOU TALK ABOUT BRICKS? NO THAT'S TOTALLY NORMAL I'M NOT MAD ".... it was what I was designing at the time, I needed to know what vibe the bricks should have. Anyway want to see the spinning fireplace I made for doctor who" WHAT THE FUCK.
@neil-gaiman do you remember any brick conversations by any chance

I still remember the day when I accidentally saw the spoiler and people were like "oh, but it was without a context, we have to wait for it!" and it made me truly curious and excited to see what the whole scene was about
And let me tell you it turns out I was perfectly happy not knowing what it was about
(But you know, curiosity killed the cat. And I loved this scene, it was positively heartbreaking, angst in its truest form. Exactly opossite to what I expected to happen knowing this season was supposed to be quiet and gentle and romantic, really.)

Title: Nineteen Eighty Author: David Peace Genre: Fiction / Mystery Page Count: 376 Trigger Warnings: Murder, mentions of rape (somewhat explicit? a character talks about what happened to her to a detective; unlike Seventy-Four and Seventy-Seven, there are no actual rape scenes), brief mentions of miscarriages, and homophobia but not half as bad as in the previous novels. This novel is fairly “safe” by comparison.
The quartet is finally nearing an end with the third installment, Nineteen Eighty, following Detective Peter Hunter as its narrator.
In contrast to the novels before it, Nineteen Eighty is a much more straightforward, cut and dry detective novel. Peace still likes to use repetition and a poetic, almost lyrical style here and there, but the content feels more substantial than Seventy-Four and far, far, far less surreal than Seventy-Seven. Unfortunately, though it’s easier to follow, it’s also quite a bit more boring than the previous novels. Detective Hunter leads several very interesting interviews, particularly with the now clinically insane Jack Whitehead, and the Ripper Tapes subplot was hair-raising, but overall it doesn’t really feel like he did much besides tell us things that we had already pieced together through Jack in Seventy-Seven. By the time we get to the final chapters and the Yorkshire Ripper (here Peter Williams, not the real-life Peter Sutcliffe), the novel has lost a lot of its momentum and the end feels... sudden? A little rushed? It’s almost as if Peace wrote himself into a corner and realized that Peter was just too nice to make the kind of discoveries that Eddie or Jack could.
That said, Peter Hunter is a refreshing main character. Likable, professional, kind, level-headed, and despite having been once unfaithful to his wife in the past, he’s actually a very good husband who treats his wife with respect and gentleness. If you haven’t read the other books, it’s probably worth saying that the bar for Red Riding’s married couples is extremely low. To get a character who seems to genuinely love his wife and want to be a better husband is sooo nice. A+, way to go Peter.
Red Riding’s trademark use of animal and religious motifs or color as symbolism was somewhat lacking in this novel. What little it did have was somehow more confusing than in Nineteen Seventy-Seven, but there is a point at the end where Peter imagines himself sprouting huge black, rotting wings. I like to think that this is confirmation that the black birds in Eddie’s nightmares were symbols for the police, as well as maybe a manifestation of Peter’s hopelessness and guilt. He is meant to be one of the good guys, a “guardian angel” of sorts, but he’s in too far over his head. Too, he’s begun to realize how rotted the police force is and feels responsible as one of them, even though he isn’t corrupt himself.
I wish that there was more to say about this novel, but there really isn’t. It’s good, and there were parts that I enjoyed, that got my heartrate going, but it was very middling most of the time for me, personally.

There's something about Crowley's calm quiet here that hit me.
Tumblr media
Even if only for a while, sitting on that bench he allows himself to relax leaving worries aside. A moment like there have already been in the last few years that allows him to peek through keyhole to see what the precious and peaceful life has always wanted to spend together with his angel could really be like, without restriction.
Sometimes surprised himself by thinking how despite the millions of years passed, a thousand vicissitudes and an existence as occult and ethereal entities in the illimitable vastness of the universe have found each other and choose each other every time. Unlikely perhaps, but not impossible given that both are halves of the same soul and neither could ever truly exist without the other by their side. And Crowley knows it. This is all absolutely surprising. And as much as it annoys him, has long since stopped fighting against that feeling so great as to trascend time that he can almost no longer manage it.
Who knows what could have happened from there to eternity if Jim(briel) had never upset their lives, or rather if hadn't already been planned for armageddon to happen.
But at that moment there wasn't room for those thoughts. In that moment there was only room to savor those brief moments of happiness disguised as a challenge to see how far Aziraphale would go whit the meeting of the Whickber Street shopkeepers and street traders association.
Secretly hoping that won't have to pretend anymore at some point.
