So, About Deadstream (2022),
A perfectly fun and entertaining movie that certainly has a few good scares, though in terms of seriousness it leaves much to be desired.
The core premise of this film is that a Twitch streamer attempts to stream himself spending a night locked in a haunted house and, of course, because this is a horror movie the place is genuinely haunted. Such a premise immediately draws comparison to films such as Grave Encounters. This is unfortunate, because Grave Encounters is far better.
The biggest problem with this film is that streamers and YouTubers obviously dial up their reactions when engaging with frightening material, because they know we ultimately want to see them scream. The protagonist in this film behaves the same way, and you expect there to be a moment where he goes from exaggerated reactions for the views to being legitimately terrified, but that moment never comes. He's never any more afraid than Markiplier playing a FNaF game.
However, this is still a delightfully fun little horror movie with some fun effects and one or two inventive scares.
Ultimately, if this happens to be on any of your streaming services there are definitely worse things you could watch. It's fun and technically well-made. But there are also definitely better things to watch.

31 Nights of Halloween Horror: day 17
Sorry it’s been a weird few days. I watched the movies, but haven’t posted lol. Oh well, here’s my choice for Monday, Deadstream
I rated this 5/10/. The guy was kiiiind of annoying, but I’ve definitely seen worse leads in found footage type movies. The ghost wasn’t creepy, and while I know it’s a horror comedy, the comedy fell a little flat with me too. It was okay for a one time watch. The comedy is a little stupid too btw. Sometimes that works for me, but in this instance, it did not lol.

Watching Deadstream on Shudder, a gross-out horror comedy about an obnoxious YouTuber, stuck in a haunted house, with a ghost that, among other disgusting things, keeps sticking her gnarled claw-like finger up his nose.

New Horror 2022 - Day 16
"The Husband Stitch" by Carmen Maria Machado (2014)
"You shouldn’t touch it, I say. You can’t touch it."
Not long ago, while waiting at a bus stop, I found Her Body and Other Stories sitting on a concrete retaining wall. The area was dirty and littered with an empty bag from a bagel shop, a discarded pizza box, dried old crusts. I assumed someone had stopped there to read and then ate and left their trash along with the book they’d just finished. Part of me thought I should take the book, save it from decay. I saw that it was labeled with a library sticker from over in the next county. When my bus arrived, I thought best to leave it there for someone else to save, but made a note to get an ebook copy for myself. The next time I was at that bus stop, the book was gone. All of which is to say, fuck.

"Some Other Animal's Meat" by Emily Carroll (2016)
"What if inside, it's somehow the wrong stuff?"
Some inside part is always going to feel like it’s different from yours.

Deadstream dir. Vanessa Winter & Joseph Winter (2022)
"I don't want to be remembered as a douchebag."
Sort of fun? But knowing how shitty some cult-of-personality streamers can be makes it less amusing to me. Then I wonder how much of what I see in past movies is amusing to me as someone who didn’t live through those times but is not funny in the least to someone who was there for it. Ultimately, this is another kinda horror movie that’s not for me.
