- He didn't expect much of Basil when they first met. I mean a man named Clayface who is literally a shifting pile of dirt? You don't expect them to be the brightest bulb in the bunch. And yet he found himself immediately enamoured by Basil the moment they actually started talking. Sure, maybe it's because the man used to be an actor, but Ed had to admit the man had a real presence that just drew him in

- Basil is the only person Ed will let upstage him. For anyone else he needs to be front and center at all times, needs all the attention to be focused solely on him, but Basil gets a pass because as mentioned before, Ed likes watching him preform. And as long as Basil is willing to share the stage every so often, Eddie doesn't mind being a supporting role

- He's taken the time to watch several of Basil's old movies, both on his own out of curiosity and with Basil to reminisce about what his life was like back then. He thinks the effects and acting are cheesy, but hey Basil was a good looking guy at the very least

- Like with most meta humans in Gotham, Eddie is absolutely fascinated by Clayface. He thinks the mutation is terrifying and disgusting, but that doesn't stop him from being absolutely enthralled in seeing Basil work nor does it stop his curiosity

their shared knowledge of theatre/cinema is in itself like its own code, not just between each other — though let's be real, it's far too easy to drop a quote than to speak plainly about anything — but around other people itself, slipping a reference into their conversation, quoting something specific, to subtly comment on who they're speaking to/around, to make a plan on the fly, to draw attention to something

terrible mothers and detached fathers. understanding each other's aggression and a thousand tiny cruelties as a shared, knowing look. they find it very easy to make sense of each other's monstrosity. she vaguely resents that he got some form of closure she didn't — what good is a mother who dies off-screen, after all?

here's the thing I've said before about other characters but I really don't think any of basil's non-human traits are particularly important to mary. if anything, they're just little things to be filed away in her mind (information will always be currency). sometimes when they've been drinking for hours, relegated to sitting sprawled out on a living room rug, she'll pepper him with questions until neither of them feel like talking anymore

favourite spot at the bar is in the very corner, with a good view of everyone and everything coming and going. mary stands on the bar instead of a chair to be closer to eye level with him but it doesn't help. yes they are mean. yes they lean in to mutter something and then laugh obnoxiously

Speaking of House M.D. it's been an unholy amount of years and the episode where Foreman got rabies still haunts me. Like WTF do you mean he's showing symptoms of rabies and he gets better?? [it's been a bit since I've seen the earlier seasons, but I'm pretty sure he had at least 1 or 2 symptoms]

iT IS WEIRD, if you have symptoms you should be like superdead by then no matter how (but those appear like a month? in after it gestates, dont quote me on that)

But he got bit and treated instantly so he should be fine without symptoms at all

It is a show so they had to dramatize it some way. But that episode reminds us we are 2 steps away from a zombie virus horde at all times

Apples were decidedly more crunchy, and unless he wanted to swallow one whole, it was better to cut it up first. Forget coconuts or anything with a hard shell; time was too precious to waste on food when there were better alternatives. His scaled hand gave way, as though offering the spotlight to the older man. "Is this an invitation to dinner or would you like to settle down and conduct business, Doctor? Perhaps if I had a little more incentive, I'll answer all the questions you want..."

Now, it's been a while since I last read the Beastars manga. And I didn't really click with Yahaya while I was reading, other than horrified respect. Obviously, spoilers for anime only peeps below

I did love the relationship he and Gosha have, and how Yahaya took special interest in Legoshi because of how he reminded Yahaya of Gosha. It's all so traumatically gay of them tbh.

The carrot fields... both horrify me and instill a great respect for this vigilante horse.

Bit of accidental Impish Lore Dumping, but I have a relative who works with horses. While I will never ever claim to be an expert by proxy, I do know some things about horses that you'd only really know if you're around horsey people.

With that in mind, it really adds to the whole indulgent and strong-willed perception that the fandom has. If you'll follow my thoughts for a bit:

Horses are opportunistic carnivores. They don't need to eat things like birds, mice, or snakes; but they choose to do so.

Horses can't eat too many carrots. It's good as a treat for good behaviour and some forms of training, but it's like chocolate for humans. You can't have a long healthy life if you have chocolate three meals a day.

So Yahaya has not only taken his version of justice out on the criminals he's captured and turned into fertiliser... he's making it a luxurious treat for himself through his carrot farm. He could easily cut the middleman, as he is biologically capable of doing so.

But Yahaya is a classier, scarier beast with strong convictions.

I'd like to think he thought of eating the carnivores as poetic justice, but never wanted to face criticism for being "just like them" (or becoming addicted to meat like some carnivores do). So in this roundabout way, he's still consuming the consumers in a manner that fits a herbivore, and punishes the criminal carnivores in a - in his eyes - fair way.

Horses are fucking terrifying the more you learn about them, y'all.

But they're also fucking hilarious. Some horses on a hack will flip out, thinking a plastic bag in a nearby bush will murder them in their sleep. Yahaya has to be particularly "bomb proofed" to handle his duties as Beastar, but the idea of him scared silly over a plastic bag is... I need to see some fanart of this tbh

Feud/Hitch/Co-star with the Denouements. 👀 Please.

Imagine, if you will, Dewey getting to go to Vegas for some reason, trying to pretend he’s one of his brothers while he’s there, and then accidentally getting absolutely smashed when he just intended to let loose a little, and ending up married. Did he write his own name on the marriage certificate, or does he fake one of his brothers’ signatures? Imagine him deciding to pretend he’s Frank, and Frank finding out later that apparently he got married in Vegas. And there’s a paper trail to prove it. What a fun confrontation that will be!

That could totally lead to a highly public feud between me and Frank, as he blames me for getting Dewey in trouble. Obviously he can’t come out and say that, so he’ll probably accuse me of wrecking hotel rooms or something. It will sound scathing to him, but I’ll just end up appearing like a cool rock star type in the public imagination. Finally a feud where I come out on top!

Ernest is probably a fine actor, and I have to imagine I’m a fine actress, so we would make a great on-screen couple who never go all the way in private.
