Ohio voters handed anti-abortion Republicans a stinging defeat. Those voters approved Issue 1 which puts reproductive freedom into the Ohio Constitution. The just passed amendment also protects the right to contraception and fertility treatment.
Results are still coming in. But with 85% of the votes counted, about 55.5% of Ohioans voted to protect reproductive freedom. And most of the remaining uncounted votes come from large urban counties which approved Issue 1 with over 65% of the vote.
Ohio voters approved a constitutional amendment on Tuesday that ensures access to abortion and other forms of reproductive health care, the latest victory for abortion rights supporters since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year. Ohio became the seventh state where voters decided to protect abortion access after the landmark ruling and was the only state to consider a statewide abortion rights question this year. The outcome of the intense, off-year election could be a bellwether for 2024, when Democrats hope the issue will energize their voters and help President Joe Biden keep the White House. Voters in Arizona, Missouri and elsewhere are expected to vote on similar protections next year. Ohio’s constitutional amendment, on the ballot as Issue 1, included some of the most protective language for abortion access of any statewide ballot initiative since the Supreme Court’s ruling. Opponents had argued that the amendment would threaten parental rights, allow unrestricted gender surgeries for minors and revive “partial birth” abortions, which are federally banned. Before the Ohio vote, statewide initiatives in California, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana and Vermont had either affirmed abortion access or turned back attempts to undermine the right. Issue 1 specifically declared an individual’s right to “make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions,” including birth control, fertility treatments, miscarriage and abortion.
It's a great victory for women and freedom in general. And it's a bad omen for GOP prospects in 2024.
Donald Trump carried Ohio both in 2016 and 2020. But the Republican insistence on controlling women's bodies will probably hurt the party there and elsewhere. And any attempt by the GOP to moderate its stand on abortion will result in major pushback by radical fundamentalist Christians who would like to return to the societal standards of the 17th century.

This is at least the third pro-violence account Trump has elevated since August
Donald Trump keeps “retruthing” accounts that have called for killing his political opponents.
The former president did it again recently, promoting a post by an account (“EdensVision”) that has previously suggested Vice President Kamala Harris should be hanged, journalists should be killed, and President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama, among others, should “suffer death.”

Oh look. The Trump shooter was a registered Republican (and a young white man in his 20s like pretty every other mass shooter ever).
Party that endorses political violence commits more political violence, film at 11.

"The Kansas Supreme Court's MAJORITY has held that there is no state constitutional right to vote in the state."
If they are even bothering to dig into the state's constitution for the right to vote (something that should go without being written or said), you know they will try to REMOVE the right to vote in the future. FOR THE LOVE OF DEMOCRACY, REBLOG. LIKES DON'T DO JACK SHIT. REBLOGGING SENDS IT AROUND. If you're too afraid to reblog, then send it to someone who will. DEFEAT PROJECT 2025

Donald Trump, a former US president seeking reelection in November presidential elections, has said that he will "encourage" Russia to attack any of US NATO allies that, in his view, fail to meet their financial obligations(..)
P.S. The Republican Party is truly an unbelievable bunch of fools if they have elected this idiot as their leader...!!! Unbelievable idiots in American politics...! It is quite clear that if Trump is elected, former US allies will start to build their own security and defense forces with their OWN NUCLEAR WEAPONS, leaving the Trump-led bunch of fools behind... and in such a situation there is no guarantee that a number of former American Allies will feel betrayed and cheated and will openly defect to the side of America's enemies out of frustration and anger....

Hey so uh.
I dont think voting is the only solution. Nor will it necessarily get us what we want immediately. And i think protest is more important and more effective.
However.
Conservatives. Would. Not. Be. Trying. To. Make. Voting. Impossible. And. Taking away. Actual voting places from marginalized areas. .
If it meant ABSOLUTELY nothing.
Hope that helps.
✌️
#if it makes me a lib to just even ACKNOWLEDGE that fact. then i think ur probably an entirely irrational person.#very. very sorry for wanting to do everything i can. very sorry.#its almost like... you can protest...... and also.... vote.........#its almost like voting in of itself at this point is kinda a protest since theres places w voting booths being removed or people who have#to drive miles just to vote. like. i kinda think it means somethin here pal.#like. republicans dont want us to vote. it benefits them when we dont. it also benefits them when you're riddled with nihilistic apathy.#u probably feel so defeated that u probably dont even think debate matters or means anything at all#whatever. im bored of you and your personality.#its this type of nihilistic thinking that leads to accelerationism. you think fuck it. lets just let the republicans win. show the world#how bad they are. thinking that will make people finally stand up. but the problem is people are cowards. and they wont. and i dont think#its worth taking the chance on and rolling the dice on when the outcome of letting republicans win is very likely to be genocide.#and i really really dont think being smug and all 'i told you so' to libs is worth it enough for vast amounts of people. people you#probably care about. being killed in swathes. i really really dont think letting things get Worse on Purpose is a great idea#and it honestly makes you look like an evangelical republican who thinkis climate change is a smite from god.#bc functionally you're doing the fucking same thing. instead though you're pretending its a smite from you.#i kinda firmly believe that accelerationism is a intellectual bystanders excuse for not doing shit. like genuinely just sitting there#watching ppl suffer to prove a point. gtfoh

« In a country defined by the ongoing existential battle over whether this will be a white nationalist society or a multiracial democracy, the majority of people reject the idea of making America white again. Most people in America prefer the Democrats’ vision of a multiracial America (however halfheartedly it may be expressed at times) to the raw, unapologetic white nationalism espoused in coded and not-so-coded ways by Republicans. With the sole exception of the 2004 presidential election, the Democratic nominee has won the popular vote in every single presidential election over the past 30 years.
Republicans understand this reality better than Democrats which is why they ferociously focus on suppressing the vote far more than Democrats emphasize expanding voting. »
— Steve Phillips at The Guardian.
Republicans will use every trick they know to suppress the non-MAGA vote. In addition to legal methods such as restricting voting hours and making absentee voting more difficult, they will work with their partners in Russia to spread disinformation to discourage moderate and liberal voters from casting ballots.
We need to do more grassroots work to get out the vote. There's no substitute for person to person contact to identify potential supporters and to make sure they vote. And the earlier we get started, the better.
At the very least, we need to be certain that like-minded people are properly registered. We should not be reticent about asking others whether they're registered.
Because voting is highly geographic, it's necessary to remind people that they need to register at their new address after they move. Even if you move across the street, you need to register at THAT address. After you've reminded the people who have moved, follow up two weeks later to make sure they've done so.
If friends think that voting is important to you, they are more likely to vote when the time comes.
I Will Vote

I don’t get how anyone can like Ron DeSantis. There’s nothing good about him. I don’t use the words fascist or Nazi lightly. They’re very extreme words and they get thrown around way too much. But when you see things like him blaming a Jewish guy for Trump’s indictment, his desire to erase LGBTQ+ and black history, his inaction against racism and antisemitism, his use of his political power to silence his critics, his apathy when his citizens are in danger, him lying to make himself look good (he said no books were banned when they were), him saying he’ll destroy “wokeism” (how he defines left-wing ideas or equality), him changing his views to get support (he disavowed the corona vaccine even though he previously supported it so he’ll get more far-right support), his use of propaganda and misinformation (called gender-affirming care for minors cutting off their privates), and so much other bad stuff that I can’t think of that’ll make this lost go on forever, the truth is clear. I’m not exaggerating or being hyperbolic when I say this: Ron DeSantis is a Nazi
