Shameless plug as we get closer to the end~ Link here These are 2 of my previously produced designs. They were both guest designs I was invited to make, so I wanted them to mirror each other. Extinct birds and extremely endangered fish. I dunno if I mentioned it last time, but the orange fish, the Golden Skiffia was extinct in the wild until last year. 1200 were reintroduced and they're supposed to be monitored for 5 years. Hopefully they make it! Reintroductions aren't often successful, but I'd love it if these little guys beat the odds.

Farmer Explains Why California Flushes 95% Rainwater to Ocean | Mark Nakata
"And it is really disheartening to see what's going on. I mean, my own kids are wondering whether they should even try it. Because they're saying dad, doesn't look like there's a future. And I can't tell them they're wrong."
Siyamak sits down with Mark Nakata, a multi-generational farmer and CEO of California United Water Coalition.  Mark is here to give us an insider preceptive on what farmers are facing in California and his efforts to save his family farm and tradition.

Minecraft Tips
or, a list of things about Minecraft that took me forever to figure out, that might not be obvious to new players, or that I just found helpful
Equal parts gravel and dirt can be crafted into coarse dirt, and using a hoe on coarse dirt changes it to normal dirt, so you can effectively change gravel into dirt if you have at least 2 dirt blocks with you
I know the game technically teaches you this BUT: you can cure zombie villagers by hitting them with a splash weakness potion and then feeding them a golden apple. This is an easy way to populate a village you built yourself, I've done it in all my survival worlds. The easiest way to protect newly potioned and appled villagers is to dig a long trench, get the zombie villager to chase you, circle the pit until the villager falls in, and cover the pit so no mobs attack the zombie villager when it changes into a villager.
Killing fish is a pretty good way to get bones. I don't need a skeleton farm because automatic fish farms are probably among the easiest automatic farms to build
drinking milk stops status effects
Tiny slimes can't damage you. You can keep them as pets.
The fastest transportation method is, for some reason, a boat on blue ice. Many horses are faster than powered rails.
Suspicious stew can be crafted, even though it's not part of the creative inventory or recipe book, using the normal recipe for mushroom stew+one flower. Allium gives a couple seconds of fire resistance, poppy gives night vision, cornflower gives jump boost, blue orchids or dandelions give saturation, and oxeye daisy gives regeneration.
A lot of wooden items—fences, doors, bows, fishing poles, and so on—can be used as fuel in furnaces. It's not efficient but it's a good way to get rid of excess items
Sneak to add blocks to the side of a furnace or chest directly. Do y'all have any idea how long this took me to figure it out. (This is also how you add a hopper to a chest.)
gold or iron armor can be melted down into gold and iron nuggets
The fortune enchantment affects sapling drops from trees and crop harvests.
Early in game, smelting copper into ingots is one of the best ways to get XP fast.
Fishing odds are slightly better when it's raining.
When you first get a full set of diamond armor your first instinct may be to wear it on a quest into the Nether. Don't. Take a couple stacks each of gravel/sand and any stone and run repeated suicide missions until you've made a stone shelter around your portal and paths across surrounding lava lakes.
More nether navigation tricks: drop columns of gravel down precipices in the Nether and then add cobblestone to the side of the gravel columns to build stairs from the top down
If your nether portal goes out while you're in the Nether, a Ghast fireball hitting the inside of the frame will relight it. But please don't get caught in the Nether without flint and steel
Lava breaks your fall much like water does, and you can't drown in it, though it's very hard to move in. Fire resistance potions will let you exploit both of these things.
Fill a basalt delta with three- or four-block-high towers of whatever block you like, two blocks apart, in staggered rows. Occasionally place a block on the side of the towers' top blocks. This won't stop magma cubes from spawning, but it will stop the large ones from moving effectively.
Using silk touch to grab the red and blue "turf" layers in Nether forests lets you farm both kinds of giant nether fungi by bone-mealing mushrooms, though the turf colors and mushroom colors have to match up. The growth is unaffected by obstructions above and the fungus "foliage" blocks never decay like leaves do. I have no idea who thought that was a good idea. BUT doing this repeatedly will eventually completely obstruct the "sky", protecting you from Ghasts
Nether fortresses and bastions are found along a "grid" pattern, so when you find one nether fortress you can travel in a straight line to find another fortress or bastion. Villages do the same thing, except when they don't. (Really, how villages spawn is a total mystery to me.)
Bonemealing moss will straight up convert surrounding stone into moss. I have no idea why. Since bone meal can be automated using a dropper iirc, this seems like it could lead to some weird redstone contraptions.
Horses can survive falls that would seriously damage a player.
Animals can and will climb ladders. I don't know why. But if you push a sheep or cow toward a ladder, they will often automatically ascend it. I've used this fact for automatic farms before.
You can name literally anything using an anvil, even if you can't repair or enchant it
Soul sand placed underwater creates bubble columns that shoot you upward. Magma blocks create bubble columns that pull you down. You can breathe in the bubble columns.
Night vision potions, if you've never used one, will also let you see the ocean floor.
A water source block in an "ocean" biome will spawn ocean animals, whether there is room for them there or not. If you change a section of ocean into a one-block-deep pond, you'll still get fish in there
you probably won't like this one but. keep a notebook with the coordinates of important spots it is SO HELPFUL
I'll add more when I think of them. please note that I play bedrock and some of these might not work in java

#out of pocket weekend
Sorry it took so long ya girl had two essays to write but fuck it we ball.
Now this may not classify as outta pocket( I’m just making it up as I go) so bare with me🧍🏽‍♀️🥴
(For visual reference imagine Ghost club in Power and the club balcony from Dr***’s after party)
(You and Tish are 2 years apart)
★★★★★
You tap Tish’s head as she licks up the remaining cum and kisses your stomach.
Fixing your skirt as she stands up, kissing you.
You can’t help but stare at yourself in the wall mirror across the office.
‘What the hell are we doing?’ runs through your head.
You walk over wiping the smudge of your lipstick. You exhale.
“So. It’s…it’s best we get back out there, she’s probably worried.”
Before Tish could protest a knock is heard, causing both of you to look at the door.
She unlocks the door revealing Yazmine(the assistant).
She waves and says, “Tish Martine Syms is all set for pics.” Tish looks back at and you give her a tight lipped smile, nodding your head to motion for her to go.
You clear your throat leaving a couple seconds later and going to the bar.
“Why the long face hun?,” Maze says smiling. “I don’t gotta kill anyone right?”
You laugh shaking your head. “No, just tired I guess.”
“Mhm. Alright what can I get ya?”
“Uhh….gimme a sazerac on the rocks?,”you ask hesitantly.
“Heavy on the whiskey?,” the curvy dark skin asks lifting her brows.
“Heavy on the whiskey,” you say grinning.
As she’s fixing your drink you can’t help but look at her. Her long locs. Gold septum and ear piercings. Her waist beads and lastly her glowing skin.
Maze was beautiful as fuck and a huge flirt when it came down to you. Anytime you smelt coconuts and vanilla you knew it was her. You’ve been friends for the past 6 years but never thought about anything more. Besides you liked your friendship.
She hands you the drink then helps a costumer.
Amapiano music plays as you walk to Tish’s section to see her taking pics and dancing with friends. The burn glides down your throat as you take a sip. “Heavy on the whiskey alright,” you say to yourself.
“It’s the damn shoes isn’t it?”
“What?” you question confused, turning your head towards bsf/n.
“Look don’t get me wrong. Ole girl is fine as fuck but she could’ve chose a lil open toe heel or somethin’. “ (if you seen Dess post then yk)
“Bsf/n.”
“ Strappy, black, gold for a lil accent - shit silver.”
“Bsf/n.”
“Whattt? I’m just sayin’. “
“Besides, Tish looks happier with you around and Im not just saying that cause I’m ya bestie but because I truly see it and so does everyone else.”
“Everyone else?,” you asks shocked.
“Yep.”
“Meaning everyone besides us?”
“Mhm.”
Suddenly you feel someone poke your lower back, causing you to turn around.
“Dom?! Oh my-.”
Hugging each other as if it would be the last time you encounter one another.
Dominique Thorne was the only one bold enough to challenge you in Philosophy class. “Socrates was a master manipulator when came down to the youth”, the look on her face just showed she wanted knock you off your toes. As tempting as it was you didn’t give in. The only time y’all had an interaction was through improv in Theatre class. Staying to yourself was something you were determined to accomplish, but your parents were not only greeks but apart of the Divine 9. The last 3 generations on your momma’s side were delta’s and she wanted you to pledge. You were nervous as shit and since Dom was also there to pledge y’all decided to support each other. That also happened to be where you met bsf/n. Once graduation rolled around you kept in touch with her over the last couple of years.
“Hey boo, how you been?”
“Life’s been lifing, but shit I’m good. How bout you ? I heard you back on broadway and shit!,” you say smiling and hitting a little shimmy.
“Yeahhhh!! you know I had to remind them that I’m still that girl,” she grins.
“AND IS!! I’ll be in New York after Paris fashion week, so I’ll definitely have to slide by.”
“So what she ya favorite or somethin’. You just gon’ leave me hangin’?”
All of you laughed.
“C’mere bsf/n, you know you my girl.” Dominique says pouting her lips.
“Yeah, yeah whatever nigga. Imma go chat with Kofi and Daniel, i’ll be right back.”
“Alright,” y’all say in a unison.
‘’At The Club by Jacquees ft Dej Loaf’ plays and Jojo walks over to you and Dom singing with her phone in her hand. Everybody in the club is singing to the top or their lungs. You’re leaned up against the banister while she sings to you.(TW: think of how Tish was singing to *** and Lani that night)
“Let's take a trip to the other side
Tell me if you're thinking otherwise
You're a boss I wanna treat you
I know you tired of all the leeches
Girl I'm in love with all your features
And I will love you til your knees weak
It could be simple but it ain't easy
I know you know what's up
It's all on us”
Both of you singing together as Dom records.
“I used to love em, leave em
Boy it's something bout you
Think I'ma keep you
I pull up in the Wagon I put the Jeep up
Boy we living lavish kick your feet up “
‘22 by JayO(slowed)’ plays right after and you start whining with both hands gripping the railing over looking the down stairs crowd. Dom comes up behind hyping you up as you whine on her, gripping your waist and pulling down your rising skirt.
Tish watches zoned out, manspread with a cup in one hand and Fidji wrapped around the other.
“Please! can you believe her? That was her first time having sushi,” Fidji says with a faded laugh as she looks at Tish.
“Tish? “
“Huh?”
“Did you hear me? Ms. Food Enthusiast Steph here’s first time having sushi was when all went out.”
“Oh you was missin’ out!! I’m going to washroom” Tish snickers.
Fidji and Stephanie nod while laughing.
Tish is washing her hands when Jojo walks in locking the door and checking the stalls.
“What exactly are your intentions with y/n?”
“Excuse me?”
“Oh don’t be coy !! What are your intentions with her? ”
“I….I don’t know.”
“For fucks sake Tish!”
Jojo huffs slowly while clasping her hands together and resting her chin on them.
“ I mean.. I-I know wha-what I want. I want her. I’ve always have.”
“Then tell her! You do this shit all the time. Tamara, E-Eva now Fidji. And yeah maybe they’re too naive or either feel like they can take her spot or fill th-this missing void. But you at least owe y/n the decency of not leading her astray.”
They stand there in silence, Tish looking down and Jojo waiting for an answer.
Jojo walks to the door unlocking , stopping as she puts her hand on the knob.
‘Girl by The internet’ is playing as she cracks it open slightly.
“This… This here. This isn’t you.”
The door closes and Tish looks at herself in the mirror. Taking in every inch of her face then giving a tight lipped smile and hesitatingly walking out the door.
“Chapters turning, so old fashioned and natural
Potions got me falling for you, oh yeah
Baby if I told you that you rock my world, I want you around me, yeah
Would you let me call you my girl, my girlfriend, my girlfriend?
I can give you the life you deserve, just say the word”
She’s sees you up on the balcony dancing with Maze.
“Hey, can I talk to you for a sec?,” she says grabbing your arm. Not giving you a chance to answer, she pulls you into a secluded hallway.
“Wassup?,” you ask confusingly.
She just looks at you.
“Ohhh. I see what this is” you say smiling sarcastically.
“Y/n.”
“So it’s okay for you to play tug a war with my feelings and confuse me, but I’m wrong?”
She looks at you, searching for the right words to say.
“Well I guess there ain’t shit to talk about huh” you shrug about to walk away.
“Y/n l-.”
Turning back around, slightly raising your voice and motioning between the both of you. “What happened between us, can’t happen again. I’m not some bitch that you can fuck anytime things don’t go your way.”
Tish grabs your face.
“Y/n I love you! I love you so. Damn. Much, she tears up. “And I’m not just in love with my friend but my. Best. Friend.”
You grab her wrists, pulling them down from your face as your eyes start to water.
“Then why are you here with her? Last time I checked you didn’t wanna stand in the sun,”a tear rolls down your cheek.
There was so much more she wanted to tell you. How she feels at home with you. How your the only face she could ever find in a crowd. That she prays that even if you part ways, you’ll find one another in the next life. That everyday on set when she held your hand, she dreaded the pain she’ll feel once you let go. She just….froze.
When you receive no response you walk away. Not too long after Tish breaks down.
“ Fuck. Fuck. Fuck,” she wails which her hand on her forehead.
“Yeah, I think imma head in for the night.”
“Aww, so soon,” Dom pouts.
“Yeah but I promise I’ll call you in the morning hun,” you give her a hug and farewells to everyone else.
When you hug Jojo she asks “you okay?” while rubbing your back.
“I’m alright just tired.”
“Okay I ain’t gonna bother you.”
You laugh.
“Just know that I’m here if you wanna talk.”
You giggle some more.
Jojo takes your hands, rubbing them. “I’m serious y/n.”
You smile and exhale, “thanks.” Then took your leave.
Tish fixed herself up putting her shades on and joining Fidji.
“Everything good?,” she asks.
Fake smiling she says,”oh yeah I’m cool.”
Jojo looks at her interacting with Fidji, shaking her head and taking a sip.
Is this the end of you two?
NOW WHY WAS THIS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER 😭😭😭

I love the way being drunk changes the texture of music. A song that is just a song while you're sober can become a periodic element while you are drunk. It enters your bloodstream. Suddenly you're no longer looking top-down at the layers and you're swimming in them like a delta smelt. That's a fish. I'm drunk.

Random Void Headcanon (+ a bit of Void x Hood)
Void smells very faintly of raspberries. He doesn't know why. He just does. You have to get really REALLY close to him in order to smell it though. Hood loves the smell and likes to bury his face into Void's hair and neck in order to smell it whenever they hug, and Void allows him to do it.
Small Ficlet (CW: Slightly Suggestive):
"Haha! Come here, Void! Lemme cuddle you real quick!", Hood said, happily picking up his boyfriend and pulling him into a tight hug.
"Woah- woah. T-take it easy, Hoodie. I don't wanna mess up my-"
Before he could finish, Hood buried his face into Void's neck while kissing it and gently running his fingers through his hair.
"W-wait, aha-! S-stop! Ahaha! O-okay! Okay!", Void laughed, squirming slightly as he hugged Hood back.
A few hours later, Hood went to Delta's house to hang out.
"Shady!! What’s up?", Delta exclaimed as she opened the door for him.
"Yo. Delta. What's good? Dab me up!", Hood said as he retracted his arm.
Delta held her arm out too and delivered the gesture.
Delta then moved her right hand up to her face to scratch it, but stopped due to smelling something on it.
"Wait...is that...", she muttered before smelling her hand more thoroughly.
"...raspberries?"
Hood then smelt his hand, and then his hoodie.
("Oh fuck..."), he thought, feeling his face heat up in embarrassment at the realization that Void's scent was still lingering on him.
"You got new cologne? I like it!", Delta said.
"U-uhh...yeah, cologne...yeah that's totally it...", Hood said, his face burning a dark shade of violet.
"Who'd you come back from, Shady?", Delta said in a teasing tone.
"Uhh...uhh...n-no one! J-just hung out with Void for a little-"
("Shit!"), he muttered under his breath, cutting himself off having immediately regretted what he had just said.
"Oh, is that so? You sure you and him aren't-"
"OKAY I THINK WE SHOULD STOP THIS CONVERSATION NOW THANK YOU! ", Hood sputtered out as he speed-walked past Delta into her home.
...
("Stay with him, he's a keeper."), Delta muttered to herself while smiling.
...
Here's where I got the headcanon from btw.

so for the past year and a half i was convinced that both of those wooden pickaxes that phil’s found in the chest in the bastion were dream’s (they’re not, one was his the other one was george’s) and because of one of nat’s @cdnfcanon anons i spend over 2 hours proving myself wrong, and as per her request im gonna post under the read more how those pickaxes got into that chest
link to the vod for the timestamps
the most important thing from this vod is that dream had the advanced tooltips enabled on his client (which means you can see the durability of his tools when he hovers his cursor over them in his inventory), as we only have his pov from the first moments on the dsmp it helped differentiate his pickaxe’s from george’s
so, dream crafts his first wooden picaxe at 3:07 and he uses it to mine the stone for his tools (durablity after mining the stone 55/59)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they both go to the nether, dream dies at 36:24 at the bottom of the treasure bastion on the platform with the gold blocks next to the lava, george dies right after him but more in the center of the platform (some of dream’s items got burnt)
Tumblr media
dream crafts new pickaxe at 38:06 (so does george)
Tumblr media
and again uses it to mine cobble (durability 54/59)
Tumblr media
they go back to the nether but dream dies in the basalt delta to a magma cube and lava at 39:13 (george picks up what’s left of his stuff but only gives him back stone sword, 2 stone pickaxes and some berries, he has his own and dream’s wooden pickaxes at this point)
Tumblr media
dream gets back down to the bottom of the bastion to pick up the items from when they died with a wooden pickaxe visible on the gold block (probably george’s 1st pickaxe)
Tumblr media
dream dies again by hitting his head on a block and jumping into lava at 42:55, the items get burned (after dream dies you can hear the piglings being angry and shooting at george (he's not wearing gold armor) and he gets killed by them next to the gold blocks at 43:07, he has to craft a new (his 3rd) wooden pickaxe)
Tumblr media
dream crafts his 3rd wooden pickaxe at 44:02, mines stone for tools (durability 50/59)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then george uses his wooden pickaxe to smelt iron (49:50), dream dies again at 52:59 to a spider but finds all of his stuff and picks them up (including the pickaxe) and they both just go mining in the overworld for iron
now i think this is where i bamboozled myself because what probably happened the last time i was going throught that vod was that i must have seen dream craft his 3rd pickaxe, and then skipped all the way to the end to the vod when they went back to the nether and just assumed dream’s 3rd pickaxe was the one that was put in the chest in the bastion
what actually happened was that dream dropps his 3rd pickaxe at 1:18:30 in the cave to make more space in his inventory while mining
Tumblr media
after he and george regroup they go back to the bastion (btw this is the part of the vod with george jumping down and dying on the bridge above the platform with the gold blocks and making dream wheeze his lungs out), dream goes to the bottom part of the bastion and for a moment in the vod there are 2 visible wooden pickaxes next to gold blocks at 1:51:45 (these and some other items are from when george died for the 2nd time in the bastion), while dream makes a cobblestone platform george comes back and picks up the pickaxes and the rest of the remining items)
Tumblr media
then george dies again by falling into a hole with lava at 1:52:50, some of his items don't burn -> dream picks up his items, including the 2 wooden pickaxes
Tumblr media
dream then goes to the side of the bastion where he finds a chest with loot and to make more space in his inventory he places both of the pickaxes in the chest: the first one being the one with 54 durability on it (dream’s 2nd wooden pickaxe), then the one with 52 durability (george’s 2nd wooden pickaxe)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then these were left there for about 10 months before phil found them
tl;dr dream and george sucked at surviving in the new (at the time) nether update, the wooden pickaxes were dream and george’s, nat’s anon got validated and i got humbled

Wakasagihime:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Top art by Rihito, bottom art by Hexenccm
Wakasagihime is a mermaid, or a ningyo, which is basically the Japanese youkai equivalent, but the terms are used for her interchangeably. She's a member of the Grassroots Youkai Movement, which is a group of weaker youkai who communicate and work together to improve their standing. Usually they're pretty calm, but during the events of Double Dealing Character they suddenly lost control of themselves and went on a rampage. Wakasagihime acts as the game's 1st boss, with Cirno appearing as the level's miniboss, likely also under the influence of this power.
Wakasagihime is no treacherous siren. She just happily lives at Misty Lake, singing songs and collecting rocks. She's actually very kind by youkai standards.
Being a mermaid, she primarily attacks with water, though she also launches fish scales in one attack.
Wakasagihime's name means "princess of the Wakasagi", which is the Japanese name for the Delta Smelt fish.

Thought I'd do something different with Cirrus' POV of a time Mountain freezes up watching Delta. Obviously this a biased and traumatized point of view, so it's not accurate to their actual relationship. The reason she's seeing it negatively is due her own trauma.
Obsession
Cirrus watched as Mountain once again withdrew into himself in the presence of the new water ghoulette; he stood frozen, just out of the way and his mouth slightly parted, fangs grazing his lower lip. He seemed enchanted by her, it made Cirrus' skin crawl. She remembered her husband looking at her like that in their early days, at least she thought she did. She remembered his wide eyes and brilliant smile on their wedding day. It sickened her. Reminded her all the more of the wild eyes and sinister snarl on his face as he choked the life out of her.
She knew Mountain was better than that, but it still made her wary. She watched as his tail lashed side to side, his breathing make his chest heave as he drew in lungfuls of the ghoulette's scent. Cirrus felt sorry for the new girl, she was the obsession of the quietest of the pack now. The musky scent of Mountain's lust was sour in her nose.
Her own breathing accelerated, she had to leave, had to escape. Safe space, she needed her safe space. Cirrus nearly dashed from the living room as she made her way to her den, her nest where it smelt of a fresh breeze and lemon candy. Her safe space.
This better not end like she did.

Environmental rules designed to protect imperiled fish in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta have ignited anger among a group of bipartisan lawmakers, who say too much of California's stormwater is being washed out to sea instead of being pumped to reservoirs and aqueducts.
In a series of strongly worded letters, nearly a dozen legislators — many from drought-starved agriculture regions of the Central Valley —have implored state and federal officials to relax environmental pumping restrictions that are limiting the amount of water captured from the delta.
"When Mother Nature blesses us with rain, we need to save the water, instead of dumping it into the ocean," Assemblymember Vince Fong (R-Bakersfield) wrote in a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Since the beginning of January, a series of atmospheric rivers has disgorged trillions of gallons of much-needed moisture across drought-stricken California, but only a small fraction of that water has so far made it into storage. In the delta — the heart of the state's vast water system — nearly 95% of incoming water has flowed into the Pacific Ocean, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
The calls by lawmakers have reignited a long-simmering debate over where — and to whom — the state's precious water supplies should go.
"With so much excess water in the system, there is no reason that exports south of the Delta cannot be increased," read another letter that State Sen. Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) and Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains (D-Bakersfield) addressed to Newsom.
But experts say it's not that simple.
While the delta provides drinking water for about 27 million Californians and supports the state's massive agricultural industry, it is also a delicate ecosystem that is home to threatened and endangered species — many of which have been suffering amid warming waters, increasing salinity, dangerously low flows and other ecological stressors. The tiny delta smelt are dangerously close to extinction.
State and federal water managers said they have been complying with environmental regulations designed to protect those species, including a so-called "first flush" protocol that mandates two weeks of reduced pumping at the onset of the first big winter storms.
The flush provides the fish with enough time and water to move away from the powerful pumps, which have been known to chew them up.
"There are reasons that there are restrictions on pumping, and each of them is founded in some way, shape or form on trying to conserve habitat for listed species," said Jeffrey Mount, a senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California.
Mount said it would be a mistake to ignore the environmental benefits of the water. The smelt are akin to a "canary in the coal mine" for the entire health of the delta, he said, and the first flush is biologically very important for the dynamics of the estuary.
"If we take actions which are helpful to smelt, we’ll help an array of other native fishes and the native ecosystem," he said.
The first flush protocol stems from biological opinions issued by the Trump administration in 2019 and from incidental take permits issued by the Newsom administration in 2020. Some lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, however, are calling for the rules to be revised.
From Jan. 3-16, pumping rates in the delta were reduced to nearly half of their capacity in accordance with the protocol, resulting in a loss of about 84,000 acre-feet of exports from the area, according to estimates from the Public Policy Institute. That's enough water to irrigate 25,000 acres of farmland for a year or supply 150,000 homes.

im gonna give a wild take here real quick: minecraft is actually semi-hard
okay let me back up and contextualize: i don’t mean in terms of like. combat. minecraft’s pve stuff is a non-difficulty thing here, obviously. but minecraft isn’t an action game or a soulslike or roguelike or anything, it’s a sandbox adventure game. That means that its difficulty shouldn’t be gauged in terms of how hard the combat is because it isn’t a combat-centric game. The difficulty scale of minecraft is in resource gathering and usage.
Now think about like... a ton of blocks in the game — froglights, for an easy example. They’re crazy hard to get. Like you’ve gotta get a frog of the exact type you want so that you can get the right kind of froglight, then you have to set it up near a nether portal, then you have to make sure that portal goes to either the middle of a specific type of bastion or a basalt deltas, and then you have to lure specifically a small magma cube through to get one (1) froglight.
Or how about getting something like copper to use as a building block? That’s obviously the intent of the thing, given that it (a) looks really good and (b) spawns more often compared to other ores. But getting enough it to build even like... the roof of a house can take a while, even with proper enchantments, and even completely ignoring smelting costs
And there’s a lot of blocks like this where they’re either hard to get on a scale to use in building or they’re just hard to get outright. And like think about the decent bit of progression you go through to get any block that requires silk touch
anyways thats my little ramble

History of Lemuria
The earliest evidence of hominid occupation in Lemuria dates to 600,000 years BCE. These seem to belong to Homo erectus, and seem to have been a relatively small and restricted population, though genetic studies seem to imply a longer period of survival, perhaps as recently as 30,000 years ago. By 100,000 years BCE, Deniovans arrived, and offer some of the best surviving material of these hominids to date, with near complete skeletons on the southern peninsula.
These pre-Homo sapiens populations appear to have largely been restricted to the eastern peninsulas, likely due to a combination of favourable habitats, inability to cross the central mountan ranges and predation from birds of prey limiting them to more forested enviroments.
The earliest Homo sapiens probably arrived at the same time as they made landfall on Australia +70,000 years BCE. These populations were made up of two main groups: one related to the Andaman Islanders and another to Aboriginal Australians and Papuans. Likely, there were several episodes of migration back and forth from Lemuria and Asia/Sahul.
This era is known as the Formative Period (Damin Luruku), and lasted from landfall to the development of agriculture 12,000 years BCE. During this time, human populations made seldom more progress than their relatives, though by the end they could be found across the entire continent. Homo erectus and the Denisovans were integrated into Homo sapiens societies and assimilated as they did elsewhere.
Sprout Era (Damin Yera) (12,000-4,000 BCE)
This era sees the development of agriculture and complex societies in Lemuria. The first crops were Sammangal, yams and fruit-bearing ginkgos; bananas, breadfruit and taro were present towards the final millenium of the era, but it is unclear if they demonstrate early contact with Austronesians or other people.
Much like in New Guinea, the standard agricultural practise of the peoples of Lemuria was a “garden”: Sammangal strategically surrounding other crops. This lead to a spread of the Sammangal biome into regions where the normal monsoon conditions are not present, but the dependence on ginkgos (which are also water-demmanding) allowed for rainforest species to find refuge. In essence, the island became a well maintained massive garden, much as Australia before colonization.
No solid empire existed on Lemuria. This was an era of numerous city states, allocated primarily towards the east and center but with a few along the western deltas such as Along-kor. Archicture relied on solid stone bases and wooden houses build above; this means that, due to the poor preservation of wood in tropical environments, most of what this architecture looked like is sadly lost to time, but the size of the stone bases imply palatial complexes, complex aqueducts and large plazas. It is here that the Lemurian language family has its roots, sharing mostly in common with Andamanese languages with aspects from non-Pama-Nyugan Australian languages.
Writing was developed around 8,000 BCE. The early script was similar to the Irish Ogham and likely started as means of measuring numbers, before more complex information was developed. Most literature of this time has been lost, but inscriptions on stone bases survive, likely as means of decoration. At least one story, The Drama of the Moon, has survived in these inscriptions, likely a pivottal story to the cultures of the era.
It is unclear if these people had a religion; later Austronesian arrivals are often credited wth introducing religion; indeed, the closely related Andamanese have no religion either. However, the story The Drama of the Moon clearly indicates at least personification of natural phenomena, and sun symbols are commonly inscribed, perhaps indicating that the Lemurian Sun goddess was worshipped at this point.
Weapons were mostly wooden, having developed wood swords and “khopesh” much like the sword clubs of Aboriginal Australians. Smelting mettalurgy was non-existent, though jade and gold were precious commodities, battered into ornaments and jewelry.
While warfare was most certainly present, no expanding empires are known from this time. Most nations were city-states, ruled by gerontocracies of elders. In general, these were rather egalitarian societies, stratified only by “skin groups” like Aboriginal Australians, determining who to marry or do trade with. Both men and women performed most roles in these societies; if there were other genders is unclear, as the various genders that later Lemurian societies would boast are often claimed to have been introduced by the Austronesians.
War Era (Damin Ku) (4,000 BCE-1200 CE)
This is the time when Austronesians first explored the islands of Indonesia, and it did not take them long to reach Lemuria. Much as the Lapita culture, most of these newcomers established settlements offshore or in secluded areas to avoid competing with the locals for space, and soon their coastal villages were present all across Lemuria.
Initially, both Austronesians and Lemurians exhanged culture and trade peacefully. Austronesians provided crops (though see above), seafood, goods from other lands as well as cultural practises such as tattoos, Austronesian languages, tooth blackening, human sacrifice and, alledgedly, both the worship of gods (again, see above) and the six genders in Lemurian societies. In turn, the local Lemurians provided an alphabet, as well as an easy footing for westerwards journeys, allowing the Austronesians to reach Madagascar soon after establishing themselves on the continent.

Black: Betsana Empire. Red: Arrokath Empire. Green: neutral/unaffiliated city states. Great Mountains and Great Lakes not painted over, as they inform the geographical borders of these nations.
To the north, city states became the norm, albeit now lead by monarchs/aristocracy and fighting amidst themselves, much as the Maya and medieval/Renaissance Italy.
Indian Era (Damin Hinda) (1200-1500 CE)
Due to the commerce brought upon by the Austronesians, the nations of India turned their eyes southwards. Soon, the Chola Dynasty set foot on northern Lemuria, and the whole continent became another part of the Indian sphere of influence. Architecture, smelting mettalurgy (including the unique Damascus steel), rice, Hinduism and even Buddhism, the latter becoming a dominant religion in it’s Lemurian form, Chakravartin Buddhism. The latter in particular resulted in the end of human sacrifices, though most indigenous religious practises remained.
Modern Era (Damin Alkal) (1500 CE – present)
This era begins with the arrival of the Portuguese to west Lemuria’s shores. Shortly after, they formed various ports across the island; while forced convertions and enslavement were attempted, the Portuguese remained mostly pragmatic, as the indigenous peoples had not succumbed so easily to plagues (sharing them with the europeans via India). Soon came France, but again it was thwarted, much as it was in Madagascar.
Numerous colonization attempts by the Mughal Empire were made, but the Lemurian kingdoms and dynasties have successfully repelled them. Still, Muslim influences became particularly strong, particularly on West Lemuria.
Lemuria remained neutral in the two world wars, just barely escaping Japanese occupation. It has since remained the wealthiest country in its sphere of influence after India, due to surviving the worst of colonization and CIA saboutage.

Ramping up releases of hatchery Delta smelt to the wild
Tumblr media
Delta smelt are all but extinct in the wild but protections for these tiny fish still have the power to cut California’s water supply. Now hatchery releases are ramping up in an all-out effort to save this controversial species. “If there’s ever a time to pull the ripcord, it’s certainly now.”
