So this is kinda random but I haven't seen a definition for "choice verbal" in an autistic context ANYWHERE, nor have I seen a list of all of the verbal labels for autistic people, so here's a list in order (imo) of least-most verbal. Also, this is speaking in general terms, so don't come at me saying "well in this context this verbal label can also mean..." because likely I know that already and I'm just trying to keep the definitions as all-encompassing as possible.
(Also a quick disclaimer: most autistic people can temporarily lose speech occasionally due to shutdowns or other reasons, regardless of their usual verbal status.)
Nonverbal- unable to speak at all, ever, or having extreme difficulties in doing so, therefore making AAC a more comfortable option in most cases.
Limited-verbal- using spoken language in limited settings and purposes
Semi-verbal- only being able to speak in specific circumstances OR showing moderate difficulty speaking most of the time; some use AAC & some don't.
Verbalflux- people who fluctuate between full-verbal, semi-verbal, & limited-verbal
Demiverbal-
- Can reliably speak most of the day for most days of the week
- Verbal shutdowns happen anywhere from a few times a week to a few times a month, possibly for no apparent reason
- May experience some level of difficulty with mouth words, anywhere between slight difficulty only a little of the time to half the time
Choice verbal- Having the full ablility to speak (with the exception of autistic shutdowns and the like), but choosing not to speak in uncomfortable and/or overwhelming situations due to significant overwhelm, lack of understanding social cues, or other reasons.
Full-verbal- Having the full ablility to speak (with the exception of autistic shutdowns and the like), and choosing to do so as much as they are comfortable. (The same as most neurotypical/allistic people.)
Hyperverbal- Having the full ability to speak (with the exception of autistic shutdowns and the like), and (wether by choice or on accident) speaking more often than verbal autistics/allistic people.
Feel free to tell me if I got anything wrong or if I missed anything! (Pls no hate, though, and use tone tags!)

So, I don’t really fit the term semiverbal, but I definitely don’t fit as a fully verbal autistic either. Because of this, I’ve been thinking of what a good term would be for sorta verbal (aka can reliably talk a decent amount of the time, but also has plenty of verbal shutdowns, and a little trouble speaking in a way that’s usually not all that hindering when able to speak) autistic. I decided on demi-verbal and think this sums up my experiences pretty well. I’ve never seen demi-verbal anywhere and searching for it brought up nothing.
Demi-verbal:
Can reliably speak most of the day for most days of the week
Verbal shutdowns happen anywhere from a few times a week to a few times a month, possibly for no apparent reason
May experience some level of difficulty with mouth words, anywhere between slight difficulty only a little of the time to half the time
Please respect nonverbal/non-speaking and semiverbal/semi-speaking autistics and listen when they tell you not to use (and thus misuse) a word/words that was coined specifically for nonverbal/non-speaking and/or semiverbal/semi-speaking autistics. Those words/terms were coined for a reason.

Honestly, hissing and growling like a cat to express displeasure on speechless days works for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'll go with the common one of.. Embalmer
Tumblr media
[Azrael likes embalmers]
[mostly to tease and bully them]
[but tbh I am just here for those few who fight back and actually challenge my bish. its hella funny to rp.]
[but few of those accounts are up for romantic rps]

[I mean, generally speaking (about Joseph), ...]
["death is perfect" and "death can f off" does seem like a good enough premise. Kind of enemies to romantic enemies...?]
[Ngl death and its impact on their lives makes it impossible for me to ever imagine that to work without fighting xD]

Why the FUCK would you tell a kid that?
Demi moved though the halls as everyone prepared for some celebration. Beside her padded a strange wolf-wraith creature. Semi-solid smoke coiling around her body. Anyone who might have auspex would see that the human girl's aura intermingled with the creature, and that they might even share a soul. A soul touched by death at her very birth.
Thirteen is an interesting age. Exploring one's independence. Asserting oneself.
She wanders along, keeping her eyes on the ground. The ground always had interesting things on it, and few people looked at and found those treasures.
Rounding a corner, a recognizable room comes into view, and she wanders into it, watching as family members move about, setting tables up and preparing in general. The young teen rocks on the balls of her feet for a moment, she usually walks on her toes. And then says, quite randomly. “This is my home so I've gotta right to be here.” Standing proud and tall, chest puffed out.
One of the older family members looks up and tilts his head, a sneer playing on his lips. “Excuse me?” He says, just looking at her.
Demi visibly shrinks away, even though he hasn't moved at all, and just looks away from him. “This is my home, but I have no right to be here.” She murmurs, before slipping way.
Dolche whines, and just presses against her, licking her hand. Demi stands there for a moment, trying to dash tears away before they start flowing and she walks off.
“Come on Dolche... at least I belong among the plazas and canals.” However, even once there she simply finds a small alcove and cries into the night, her sobs rending the silent square.

"What words are there to describe the situation when I suddenly can't speak anymore?" - Masterlist
If you suddenly can't speak/struggle to speak:
losing words
losing speech/speech loss
no mouth words
out of words
speech loss episode
situational speech loss
going/being silent
becoming/being unspeaking
verbal shutdown
verbal crash
low/weak verbality
Coined by @witchy-fennec :
demi-verbal:
Handle with care (because it can be misunderstood easily as it reminds of selective mutism, which under no circumstances should be mixed up):
autistic mutism
Some general words:
low words
no words
speech averse
voice averse
speech pause
being/becoming voiceless
being tight-lipped/tongue-tied/close-mouthed
being verbally uncommunicative
being untalkative
being tacit/taciturn
If you want to express that you only use nonverbal communication to communicate:
communicating nonverbally/using nonverbal communication - NOT being nonverbal, that doesn't refer to you using nonverbal communication and is something else entirely ☝🏼
If you want to express that internally you're really struggling with speech atm, but you're able to force yourself to speak:
masked-verbal
If you can't speak anymore and can't make sense of language anymore simultaneously:
losing language
If you could speak theoretically, but simply choose not to do so (or to speak less):
word resting (for example if you want to save energy)
choice verbal
on vocal rest (well-known, likely won't raise further questions)
Words by @carpsstuff :
despeechify - when verbal communication begins to slow or shut down. example: i’m about to despeechify, can you hand me my tablet so i can use my app?
larynx laziness - you want to speak, but for whatever reason but at that moment you cannot. example: i am feeling some hardcore larynx laziness, because i really want to use my voice but ugh! i just can’t!
talk tired - being temporarily unable to use verbal communication due to physical, mental, or emotional exhaustion. example: i am so talktired right now, it’s making it hard to speak.
untalkable - being unable to speak in that moment for an indeterminate amount of time due to neurodivergence. example: i am pretty untalkable right now, so i’m using pen and paper to communicate.
voicebox variable - your level of speech capability varies from time to time. example: i am voicebox variable.
wonky worded - saying things like up when you mean down, or left when you mean right, or yes when you mean no, like your words are getting mixed up somewhere along the way from your brain to your mouth. example: i am seriously wonky worded right now, everything is coming out of my mouth all wrong.
Some newly coined terms I find really cool by @archival-arrival , might especially be interesting for those who aren't autistic (definition in the linked post):
nullvox
tacevox/tacetvox
siovox
siofoni
ochifoni/chorisfoni
ochilogia/chorislogia
pagofoni
pagolexei/pagologia

Shout out to autistic people who can’t tell when people are being ableist towards them.
Shout out to autistics who don’t know when they’re being talked down to.
Shout out to autistics that don’t understand why what someone did was ableist.
Shout out to autistics that stayed “friends” with bullies for years because they didn’t know they were being made fun of.
Shout out to autistic people who are non-verbal/non-speaking but understand non-verbal communication perfectly well.
Shout out to non-verbal/speaking and semi-verbal/speaking autistics in general.
Shout out to the Demi-verbal and verbal-flux autistics who aren’t believed when they experience speech loss and are told to “just talk”
Shout out to non and semi speaking/verbal autistics who are told “I go non-verbal sometimes” or “I’m semi-verbal” by people who are verbal-flux or Demi-verbal, especially those who are tired of hearing it.
Shout out to all autistics that struggle more than a low support needs person when it comes to socializing and communicating.

Can non autistic people use Demi verbal? Cause it perfectly describes us but we aren’t autistic
i'm not 100% sure, but I think anyone who struggles with speech for any reason can use it!

I don't know if you've heard the song 29 by Demi Lovato... But if you did how you think Hotch would react to it if he's dating younger reader? Of course he would never be with an underage person, but what if the age gap between them is also of 12 years or more? (For example I'm 25 and i always picture him being 42) Would it make him insecure/feel like a bad person? Would he try to break up with reader?
Could you possibly write a little blurb on it?
got to admit, i don't know anything about her, but i hope this is what you're looking for
As passenger princess, it's always your music being played on the way to and from the BAU. As an observant, astute boyfriend who notices when the slightest thing is different about you, including changes in your playlists.
"This one's new." He observes within a few seconds of the chorus.
"Very attentive." You praise. "Good, huh?"
He nods, although it's a half-nod, but you're too busy singing to notice his face dropping with each lyric.
He can't think about anything else once you're back at home. Just your relationship and the correlation between it and the song. He can't help his spiraling thoughts, had you made him listen to it on purpose? Is he the bad guy he's been telling you he would protect you from? Is he holding you back? Are you too worried about the consequences of breaking up with him to do it yourself?
"You know you don't have to do the dishes, baby." He says, wrapping his arms around your waist.
"You cooked." You argue, turning your head to steal a kiss that he feels guilty giving you. "And it was really good."
He painfully takes his hands off yours, resting against the counter. "No, I mean, you actually don't have to." He repeats, and you frown, still not understanding. "Do any of this."
"Uh oh." You verbalize. It's not the first time he's been doubtful about dragging you into the 'mess' he calls his life, but it is the first time it's about this. "What's up?"
"I'm a lot older than you." He says like it's a revelation. "Is it really appropriate for us to be dating? I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to end this now."
His eyes are filled with so much disdain for himself that it breaks your heart. "Aaron, I'm not a kid." You remind him.
"You're still young enough to have a proper life." He argues.
"This is a proper life." You assure him, drying off your hands before cupping his cheeks and pulling his face close to yours. "And it's the life that I want. I would choose this- you and Jack- a million times over. Believe me?" You ask, and when you don't get an answer quick enough, you lean forward to kiss him.
Again and again, until he's smiling against your lips. "Yeah, I do."
"Good." You say, standing between his legs and looping your arms around his neck while his come to rest on your waist. "Because you're going to have to try a lot harder to get rid of me."
He shakes his head. "Unless it wasn't incredibly clear, I don't ever want to get rid of you."
