Let's start light. Gretchen for "Send Me a Character".

First impression

Basically, my first impression was the same impression the show was going for with her character—that she was the “unpopular nerd” and played for laughs. I really didn’t think too much about her. (This sounds so mean-girl of me. As if I wasn’t the Gretchen of my school. Braces and all).

Impression now

I think my feelings about her changed during her appearance in issue 15 of the comics. She seems so much more developed as a person. She had opinions and passion, a funky sense of style, and a super creative spirit.

Favorite moment

Idk, I just like this frame. I think about it sometimes when I get olives for my salad at the salad bar at work.

Idea for a story

Despite having admittedly more opinions about Gretchen than I thought I did, I don’t have any super solid ideas for a story involving her.

I do think it would be fun to explore her and Dib and their relationship. I feel like they would actually hit it off if he actually got to know her.

Unpopular opinion

I think my unpopular opinion bleeds into the next couple questions (and kind of bled into the above). While I don’t really care enough to “ship” anything super hard, I thought it was really cute that she developed a crush on Dib (Tak, The Hideous New Girl). I love that she’s also invested in wacky theories and the paranormal (comic issue 15). Again, I think she and Dib would actually have some chemistry together as a couple if Dib really got to know her. I could see them dating in high school or college.

Dib takes notice of Gretchen and has some level of respect for her theories. He might not agree with them, but he acknowledges them.

In issue 15, he uses her name twice and actually debates the merits of her theory regarding Bitters. He doesn’t do this with anyone else; he dismisses their stories way more flippantly.

And it’s not like Dib is spouting any kind of sage logic or wisdom. Not anywhere else, and not in this comic.

He’s still typical, paranormal-obsessed Dib with his own crazy theories about vampires and tortilla factories. His theories are just different than the other kids’. (Also, bonus points that despite him rebuffing it, it’s implied in the comic that Gretchen’s theory might actually be right).

So yeah. Despite telling her he thinks her theory is crazy, he gave it way more attention than he really had to. Do I think it was subconscious? Yes. Do I think he takes her ideas way more seriously than the rest of their peers? Also yes.

Less "disliked" and more "nobody talks about him" but Ivan from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. He's voiced by Kevin McDonald. He sounds hilarious when he screams (which is...most of the episode). I love his character design. I wish he appeared more.

In general I'd love to see more Life With Loopy or Phantom Investigators fanart and fic.

I tried to use the shipping chart but it didn't work nothing on it fit lol. SO I'VE REPLACED THE SHIPPING CHART WITH THIS ONE

and by canon I do mean one sided. I think it's a hilarious background thing. Someone likes Dib. It's so funny. I would definitely like to see more jokes with it.

However, despite that I don't ship it seriously. I think Dib isn't straight and is also Very oblivious so if they ever started talking he'd just talk about his alien stuff all day not listening to her at all and never find out she has a crush on him, and eventually she gets tired or moves away lol

I can definitely understand the appeal of the buff big guy x skinny nerd boy, and I definitely remember the scenes where Dib ranted to him pretty funny. That part in dark harvest is iconic.

I don't really see it working out seriously but I do feel like when people write "jealous Zim" fics he's definitely not a bad candidate XD

Zim x Zita

I like Zita as like the character that voices the crowds thoughts, who is the first to tell Dib he's crazy, that sort of thing.

Her relationship with Zim seems quite limited. She thinks he's definitely a weird kid, but not an alien. I think it'd be interesting to see someone try to make something out of it but currently I don't see it

Sorry the ending is missing (the anon who talked about Zim and Prof): I know that there are fanworks where Zim apologizes to Dib, but I have seen a lot where he isn't, and I know the Zim Prof thing doesn't supposed to be taken as seriously as I did, it's not that deep, but the joke is really not doing it for me, I just can't help, but side with Dib.

It’s okay to be upset about it. It’s weird and I don’t like it either. I could rant about gross and weird invader zim ships all day and STILL be able to find new points about why they’re weird afterwards, but I want to keep it away from my tumblr because arguing about them is absolutely EXHAUSTING. On one hand you’ve got people that will defend their weird ships with their LIFE and people who will literally threaten you over them, but on the other you have people that agree with you. Unfortunately, the bad people outweigh the good for SOME REASON, and I just want to keep all ship stuff away from my blog. I like zasr and rapr - that’s it. You MIGHT see me reference dib x gretchen because I think that’s kinda cute seeing as she canonically has a crush on him. Apart from that, I try to keep my stance on ships far away to not stir up drama. I don’t know if that makes me morally bad, since I’m not telling people to fuck off if they ship something weird, but I just do NOT have the energy to argue with people and unfortunately that seems to be what all these people want to do. At least that’s how it is on Instagram, which is the kind of invader zim fandom I’m used to. They are INSANE over there. I don’t know if it’s more chilled out here or what, but I don’t want to risk it because I’ve seen people just leave the fandom because of ship drama and I really don’t want zim to be ruined for me. Because I love it too much, and also I have so much zim stuff. There are at least 32 zims in my room that I can count right now not including the ones in the art book, comics, random pieces of paper, or sketchbooks. If I one day don’t like invader zim anymore I’m doomed.

So I don't know if you've read the IZ comics or not, but there's this one issue where the whole class is trying to figure out if Mrs. Bitters is a supernatural creature and even Gretchen gets in a debate with Dib xD I can't help but imagine them growing up and doing some conspiration stuff together!

Of course they do paranormal stuff together! Dib is the super practical skeptic that finds new places to explore with all of his weird equipment, and Gretchen is the esoteric goddess that helps identify phenomena based on her extensive knowledge of witchcraft, spirituality, and other intersectional viewpoints.

Also Zim is often there for comedic value.

But yes!! They bond over Dib’s love for weird things because Gretchen is also into weird things! Gosh I just love them together so fucking much~

I don't like being the one who tells people that their ship is wrong, and I would never shame someone for their ship. So even if my blog and art are ZaDr centered, I'm okay with every shipper x3 y'all are safe to come to my blog and talk.
