some resin comparisons (jan 2023)

here they are! the natural light images are truest to life, though the tans look more different in reality. dika doll tan is a smidge yellower (though that may just be age), and fairyland tan is much redder. I had heard that fairyland and unoa tans were close enough to hybrid easily, but they do seem significantly different in person- it would likely work if a unoa head was given a warm/reddish faceup though. 

the fairyland tan and normal resins, the alchemic labo unoa paradise and fresh resins, and the dollzone yellow resin have been kept almost completely out of the sunlight (until this picture lol). the other two have been in the sun underneath wigs.

BJD Collector musings

I've been collecting BJDs for... 5 years now? And I still learn something about the process all the time. Today, I realized that I have been grossly short-changing the hybrid process, because I failed to allow time for what I'm calling, "Sit and stare at the dolls."

Hybrids, by definition, aren't meant to go together. The exceptionally manual process of making BJDs can sometimes mean that only certain parts fit certain dolls (figured this out when I accidentally swapped thighs on 2 Angel of Dream 58 cm bodies, and they didn't quite fit right).

So when deciding on a hybrid, there needs to be time for me to just sit and... stare at them for a little while. I need to decide if I like the proportions, the fit, the way the head sits on the neck, etc. Having that instantaneous "YES, this is YOUR body!" realization is surprisingly rare - though I have had a few of them.

Doll Chateau and Dream Valley sculpting is so similar that I figured this hybrid would work out perfectly, and I was right.

This wasn't even planned. I was trying Impldoll Imara on different bodies for someone on DOA, and I was shocked at how much I liked this hybrid - plus, the resin is really close, which means much less work on her eventual face-up.

Another hybrid per DOA request, and another shocker for me. I had no idea Impldoll old tan and Dikadoll tan would match so perfectly. Even though there's a bit of a neck gap, I like Lydia on this body so much that this hybrid is set.

Before I get to face-ups and body blushing, I need to lock in a hybrid, cuz I have so many different companies, resin colors, and sizes. I don't own one universal anything. So I need to allow myself time to decide, and stop getting mad at myself for not getting all my face-ups and body blushing done already.

If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go sit and stare at my dolls now.

I’m desperate for a good resin comparison for tan skins, especially Impldoll’s Tan and Brown skins. Do you know of any? Also, are there any good resin matches for Mia Pink Skin?

Another attempt on a sailor like beret! This time with a cute bow ♡ Took another couple hours and its not the greatest but it’s an improvement from the first one! Same pattern I made but this time i was just a bit better with it this time.

Okay, finally got a chance to unbox DikaDoll Pan, or Florian, Tenya's younger son:

So, here's the fun part...I wasn't quite sure if I was just getting a tan Pan, or the tan LIMITED Pan. I'd paid for the limited, but he was LE20 and that sale period was in like...early 2018. I didn't want to bother clover-singing about it, since I was already getting him at a 40% discount.

Horns are a very good sign though...

He has a little scuff, but he's tan resin so that's to be expected. He's also a Fite Boy, so it's a fully suitable scar.

So yeah, all in all I'm pretty happy. His tan isn't as dark as Loongsoul's, but it's still distinguishable from NS which is pretty decent.

He came with a pair of acrylic eyes, but they're HUGE and make him look like he's tripping balls - I was going to make a pair for someone who's buying one of my other dolls this weekend, so I'll cook him up a pair at the same time, nbd.

Now just waiting on Halvarr and Wildrose's body...

XD Well, most of them are separate heads and bodies, except for a tan 1/3 SweetDolls Allison Elf who I’m gonna offer as whole but with the option to buy a la carte, and a 1/4 Dollmore Kid Rafel. I think I’ve got like 8ish SD bodies and 10 SD heads? The bodies are a mix of the less expensive (but still nice and perfect for spur of the moment hybrid dolls) brands like Resinsoul and Impldoll and a couple others, while the heads are mostly mid-tier expensive brands like Dikadoll and Dollzone.

So bodies are gonna be between $100-$200 and head’s’ll be between $60-$90, and I need to research Allison and Rafel but I think they were both around $300 originally.

My old sales thread is here: It’s actually up to date with the dolls that didn’t sell last time I ran my destash, it just doesn’t have all the other bjds I’ve decided to part with on it yet. ^-^

BJD Box Opening - Peregrine Little Buddy

For all the non-video watching folks, here are the photos from my latest doll unboxing, which did not go as expected

I was expecting a Dikadoll Yolanda in white resin, I’d bought her in stock from Jeeryama’s ebay and was super excited to test out my new dye pot. I paused for a moment when I opened the box to reveal a Doll Leaves box, but Doll Leaves is a company I get confused for a lot of other companies (I’ve no idea why) so I figured either I’d just gotten confused again or she was shipped in a different company’s box (not a first for me)

It was when I opened this little guy up that I realised something was wrong, as he is very clearly in tan. I’ve no idea what sculpt he is and I didn’t want to disturb his bubble-wrap too much but I did get a bit of his face in the video if anyone wants to try and work out what sculpt he is

I’ve contacted Jeeryama and we’re sorting stuff out, but right now I’ve no idea where my girl is and no idea what is going to happen to Little Buddy here. At least though, my girl now has a name. I’m going to call her Peregrine in honour of her wanderings

Decisions, decisions...I had pretty good luck dyeing my Doll Leaves Amara head tan to match her tan Loongsoul body. I was pretty happy to find that the color matched almost perfectly. But was it just a fluke?

I was hoping to do something similar with my DiM Alpon head on a tan DikaDoll body, but the more I think about it I’m not so sure. For starters, I’m afraid the Dika body is too light for what I want, and second, I’m afraid the brown dyes available won’t match. So perhaps it’d be better to go for a lighter resin body and then just dye the whole thing afterward. This wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t HATE DYEING DOLLS. I love how my tan dolls that came from the company have no streaks or weird patches of color while my dyed dolls do.

So take the risk on a tan body that might not work? Or go for a lighter body and risk ugly mistakes when I dye it myself?

Really bummed, Anthony’s body came and it’s a liiiitle bit too small for her :( oh well. I guess I can just leave her on it for now, and just keep my eye out for a new head for that body, and a new body for Anthony.

The resin match wasn’t too far off though, in case anyone was wondering. Her body is an Impldoll Star body in their tan, and the head is a tan Dikadoll Lola. The head is just a tad darker than the body, but they’re the same shade, if that makes sense?

I’m just bummed it didn’t work out. But, oh well. The body was a good price, and I can always find another head for it. EDIT: After looking over the body, measuring, and checking the site, looks like her body is actually the model size, and not the star size, which explains why it is smaller than I expected. Not sure if I'm upset. I'll contact the seller and see how it goes.......

If you are able to can you please get a comparison between dikadolls normal yellow and dream valleys normal?

Hello, thanks for your question. I think Dream Valley normal may be more peachy than Dika yellow. Have owned Dika yellow myself and it was quite yellowish.

I could not find direct comparisons so far, but someone has reported that Dream Valley normal matches Myou Doll and Mystic Kids normal well.

Here is a 2016 comparison of Myou and Dika help, though formulations could have changed since then:

Myou: white, normal, pink, yellow, coffee, tan

Dika Doll: yellow, pink, white, pure white

My very own yarn wig attempt using minty acrylic "baby" yarn! To be fair though, this is my third attempt at making one but for a beginner, i think it was a wonderful learning experience! Plus, it's absolutely cute on Juniper! Can't wait to try my next one! Wish me luck ♡

...he's not a fully fleshed out character, other than that he'll take a bit more after Tenya, and be a lot bigger than short and skinny Halvarr.
