Parsi food in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Delhi
Parsis migrated to India from Iran between the 8th and 10 century C.E seeking refuge. And along with them they brought their food with influences from middle east, Turkey and other surrounding regions. Over the years, the cuisine has absorbed local flavours of where they settled in India - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kolkata and other cities. In Mumbai, there still are many Iranian cafes which were opened by Parsis decades, and in some cases, more than a century, ago. However, it's only in the last couple of years that Parsi food has been gaining momentum beyond the simple cafe. With delightful restaurants like SodaBottleOpenerWala opening in other cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad, Parsi food has become mainstream and sought after by most restaurant goers.
In this piece, we'll tell you where you can get some good Parsi grub if you're in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Delhi. Bangalore
Tumblr media
Red Fork in Indiranagar is owned and run by a Parsi family. Most of their food is cafe style but if you ask the staff, you'll be told about the Parsi dishes they serve. Definitely worth a visit if you have a hankering for something new. They are open from 9 AM to 10:30 PM. For a hearty Parsi breakfast of akuri, Parsi omelette or even akuri pancakes, head to My Way Little Dinette on Dickenson Road. They also have Parsi mains like sali boti and patra ni maach along with sides like kheema pattice and chicken farcha. Of course, not to forget the comforting dhansaak. All this and more from 9 AM to 11 PM everyday except Sundays when they wind up at 4 PM. On a night out with friends in Koramangala? Head to JukeBox for some old school rock and Parsi food. A small section of their menu has just what you should have - mutton and chicken dhansaak, patrani maach, salli boti, chicken cutlets, salli chicken, chicken farchas and mutton frilly cutlets. Perfect with a pitcher of beer any day between 10:30 AM to 11:30 PM. Chennai
Tumblr media
Parsi food isn't popular in Chennai yet but here's hoping things will change soon. But the one highly rated restaurant we have there is Batlivala & Khanaboy in Alwarpet. They have an elaborate 5 page menu filled with all sorts of Parsi delicacies. From meat to vegetables, they have something delicious for everyone. The vegetarian fare includes dishes like lagan sara instoo pattice which is root veggies stuffed pattice coated with semolina and deep fried, yam pattice, gravy cutlets, stuffed aubergines and cauliflower in coconut milk among others. Meat lovers have chicken maivala, salli boti, dhansak, papri ma kebab and kheema pao. They also have combo meals like dhandar, rice and pumpkin patio, gosht ne kebab no pulao and dal, and dhansak, brown rice and kachumber. All this and more authentic Parsi dishes await you. They are open all days from 12 noon to 11 PM. Pune
Tumblr media
Weekend's almost here and what better way to kick start it on a Saturday with some delicious Parsi food at Where Else Cafe in Viman Nagar? Their weekend special Parsi bhonu includes tamota per eedu (eggs on spicy tomatoes), marghi na farcha (Parsi style fried chicken), kheema na pattice and patra ni macchi (steamed pomfret wrapped in banana leaf). Besides these specialties they also have salli margi/gosht, dhansak, kurchan and lagan nu custard (Parsi custard). They are open from 11:30 AM to 11 PM on weekdays and on weekends they open early at 9:30 AM. Zamu's Place on Dhole Patil Road isn't strictly Parsi in its menu but there are a few classics you could try like the dhansak, sali boti, sali chicken and dal dhansak. They are open from 11 AM to 3 PM and 7 PM to 11 PM. Then there's Dorabjee & Sons in Camp Area. How can we not mention one of Pune's oldest establishments? They have all things Parsi and don't miss their Sunday special mutton dhansak with brown rice, patra fish and mutton shami kebab. Open all days from 9:30 AM to 10:30 PM. Delhi
Tumblr media
If you're new to Parsi food we suggest Rustom's Parsi Bhonu in Adchini. They only do home deliveries and you can sit back and try some of their delicious food right at the comfort of your home. Start off with marghi na cutlets which is shredded chicken and potato cutlets or their kheema pattice which is spicy and sour minced mutton stuffed in mashed potato patties. Vegetarians can try patra na paneer which is sliced paneer wrapped in banana leaf and cooked with spices. You could also try their soy or makai pattice. For mains there's masala ni kolmi which is prawns cooked in Parsi spices, masoor ma gos which is mutton on the bone cooked with masoor dal or sali boti which is sweet, sour and spicy mutton cooked in a tomato gravy and topped with crisp potato slaw. They deliver on all days except Mondays and from 12:30 AM to 3 PM and 7:30 PM to 11 PM. Simple joys of maska pao, Parsi masala omelette, akoori on toast and other Parsi dishes can be had at Rustom's Cafe & Bakery in Malviya Nagar. They also have the Bombay grill sandwich, shrewsberry biscuits, mawa cake and Rustom's caramel custard. They stay open all days except Mondays from 10 AM to 7:30 PM.

Facts about Lodhi Garden- Heritage Site To Visit In Delhi 😃
Lodhi garden in New Delhi is interesting. It does not just convey a couple of times of Delhi's set of experiences in its folds yet additionally is one of the uncommon authentic spots, which are living. This isn't where just vacationers come, stroll around, click pictures, and return. The Garden is a lot of an indispensable piece of the existence of Delhi's kin.
The individuals who are lucky to be living in its area presumably use it as their regular strolling garden. Youthful couples use it to hobnob, and other Dilliwallahs make an oddball visit to sit and inhale the outside air here. History buffs come here to see the Lodi time burial places and mosques. Planners come to consider the design of that time.
Lodhi Garden
Nowadays the nurseries are the most loved frequent of photographic artists. They come here to tap the beautiful areas, trees, and birds. Producers use it to portray the scenery of Delhi. Expert narrators like Khushwant Singh stayed here and composed books as The Sunset Club set totally in these nurseries. Regularly called the lungs of Delhi, a great many people come here to invest some energy with nature. Arranged unbelievably between the Khan Market and Lodhi Road, it is effectively available from the two sides.
Passing by the atmosphere around Lodhi Garden, I anticipated that it should be large, however, it is a moderate-sized park spread in around 90 sections of land. Two towns existed around the landmarks till the mid-twentieth century, one of them was called Khairpur.
History of Lodhi Garden
In 1936, the spot was finished and the nursery was made. It was named Lady Willingdon Garden, after the spouse of the then lead representative general of India. After autonomy, gardens were named after the administration whose stays enhance it.
The Garden was re-finished in 1968 and a glasshouse was added to it. It has a characteristic territory that goes all over at places of all shapes and sizes landmarks interspersing the bountiful nature. It has little and not-so-little lakes with blossoms and birds and a Bonsai garden.
Lodhi Garden Walking Trail
My walk began from the Khan market side. As you enter from the stopping, the Athpula Bridge would be directly before you.
Athpula Bridge
Athpula in a real sense implies 8 extensions. It was called so as it remained on 8 columns framing 7 curves. The focal curve is the greatest one with ensuing curves decreasing, giving a sunken shape to the scaffold.
The way things are today, you wonder where is the waterway over which this was constructed. The water encompassing the scaffold is a fake water body. All things considered, however, the most youthful landmark this scaffold is as yet 400 years of age, worked during Akbar's time by Nawab Bahadur over a channel that associated with the Yamuna. What is vital about this extension is that this is one of the uncommon engravings in Delhi from Akbar's time.
Sikandar Lodhi Tomb
Pursue the cleared way around the Athpula and you would see a stronghold like a divider. You need to circumvent it to arrive at the doors of Sikandar Lodi's burial chamber. Implicit the mid-sixteenth century by his child Ibrahim Lodi, this burial chamber is in the average octagonal state of the Lodi time. This burial chamber has an uncanny likeness to Adham Khan's burial place in Mehrauli, with three entrances opening on every one of the eight sides.
Within the burial chamber has a high vault, with a painted roof and shaft and lintel passages in red sandstone. Curves inside have mathematical plans in blue and green. The western divider gives an impression of being a mosque with a Mihrab like a downturn. The dividers encase tremendous nurseries that encompass the primary burial chamber building. The stage outside the passageway divider has two coverings.
Legend of Octagonal Tombs
A legend says that Mughals considered Lodi's swindlers. In their period, the swindler's burial places were made in the Octagonal style like that of Adham Khan's. Another fascinating point is that Sikandar Lodi decided to be covered in Delhi while he used to control Agra.
Sheesh Gumbad
Push somewhat forward and you would see Sheesh Gumbad and bang inverse it Bara Gumbad. Presently, these are square burial places from the Lodi time. Sheesh-Gumbad was purported because its external get done with blue plated tiles gave the impression of being a mirror. Not very many of these tiles endure now and the vault conveys an exposed look. A family is by all accounts covered in this burial chamber, which is genuinely all-around protected from an external perspective however is completely disregarded inside.
Bada Gumbad or the Big Dome
Bara Gumbad has a mosque on one side and a Mehman Khana or guesthouse on the other. As you enter Bara Gumbad, you out of nowhere are hit by the sheer tallness of the arch. In the stage between the arch, mosque and guesthouse are a few graves that most likely have a place with a later period. The Bara Gumbad mosque was the most lovely disclosure of this walk.
This mosque with three vaults and five curves has a wonderful etching of mathematical plans and Arabic sections in grayish shading. It is an uproar of etched plasterwork. It additionally has probably the best Squinches that I have found in Delhi landmarks. The inside of this mosque is genuinely saved making it worth visiting.
Nobody realizes who is covered in these two burial places. In any case, I get it is protected to expect that these should be aristocrats, passing by the glory of these burial places. It is contended that Bara Gumbad isn't at all a burial place, yet a door to the mosque. However, the graves have been found inside building up to it as a burial chamber.
Mohammad Shah Tomb
As you stroll towards Lodi street, you would see another lofty octagonal construction, with exceptional and lavish Chhatris or shades all around the octagon. These Chhatris make the particular component of this burial chamber, with all the other things commonplace of the burial chambers of that period. This is the Sayyid line's Mohammad Shah burial place. It is the greatest construction in these nurseries. The roof again has some intricate round painting in blue and red encased in a star-like arrangement. It makes an exceptionally photogenic burial chamber, for what it's worth on a higher hill and is balanced.
To a great extent, you would see some grave stage in the nurseries. It would nearly feel as though you have come to meet each one of the individuals who lay covered here. The dead address you, not in a real sense, however through the pieces, they left for the people in the future, cast in stone conveying an engraving of their occasions. The landmarks show the significance given to individuals after they kicked the bucket, not certain if in the course of their lives that were path more modest than the existence of their burial chambers, on the off chance that they got a similar adoration and appreciation. I don't know whether they met, however, many individuals in their lives as they meet from their graves.
Birds
While engrossing history, don't miss the present. An assortment of birds lives here and significantly more visit during winters. If you don't think a lot about the birds, there are intricate sheets to clarify the different assortments of the birds that you can see here. The trees and plants are there to appreciate for what it's worth.
I missed the Kos Minar worked during Sher Shah Suri's time. You discover them up and down the Grand Trunk street that runs from Amritsar to Kolkata.
Travel Tips

* You need in any event an hour to see the nursery appropriately. If engineering and birding interests you, you can undoubtedly go through a large portion of a day there.
* The nearest Metro Station is Jor Bagh on Yellow Line. You need to stroll for around 5 minutes or take an auto from that point.
* Lodhi The Garden Restaurant on the nursery premises serves European and Mediterranian food. It is a top-of-the-line café. You can generally bounce over to Khan Market for a chomp.

1. The Winning Attitude By Jeff Keller
As a motivational speaker and coach, one question that Jeff Keller often gets asked is ‘What separates successful people from everyone else?’ His answer is an overwhelming stress on the ‘right attitude’. In fact, it always boils down to what Jeff popularly refers to as the ‘winning attitude’. No matter where you are on your journey of self-development, a winning attitude will always be the differentiator as Jeff shows in example after example, covering virtually all the important aspects of our life. 2. Powerful By Nirupama Subramanian
Power: a word that’s as dissociated from women in real life as it’s seen to be embodied by them through ideas of Shakti. Reduced to mere tropes in Indian mythology – the innocent Kanya, seductive Apsara, warrior-like Veera, the noble Rani, nurturing Maa, the wise Rishika – the images of feminine mystique are reservoirs of power.
Changing the conversation from how these stereotypes shackle women to how they can enable them, Nirupama Subramanian uses the wisdom of archetypes to provide practical advice to women to claim the powers they need to achieve their goals.

3. Anxiety By Sonali Gupta
Do you know the difference between anxiety and stress? What can you do when you have a panic attack? How do you know when it’s time to get help?
Anxiety is a mental health crisis that has gripped over three crore Indians. In ‘Anxiety: Overcome It and Live without Fear’, clinical psychologist Sonali Gupta delves into the condition, using case studies to identify how anxiety can be triggered at work, in relationships, and by social media. Gupta shares a unique glimpse into this mental health condition in India, especially among Gen Z and millennials.

4. SHAMELESS By Taslima Nasreen | Arunava Sinha
“My name is Suranjan. You don’t recognize me? You wrote a novel about me. It was called Lajja.’ One day in Calcutta, Taslima suddenly finds herself face to face with Suranjan, the principal character from her controversial novel ‘Lajja’. Persecuted in their native Bangladesh, Suranjan and his family have, like Taslima, moved to the city across the border. But is life for a Hindu family from an Islamic nation any better in a country where a majority of the population happens to be Hindu? Leading poor, unmoored lives, exploited and frustrated at every step of the way, and always carrying with them the memories of a scarred communal history, Suranjan and so many others like him seem to lead incomplete lives in their so-called ‘safe haven’.

5. Club You To Death By Anuja Chauhan
When a hunky personal trainer is found asphyxiated to death under an overloaded barbell at the posh Delhi Turf Club, on the eve of the club elections, it is first thought to be a freak accident. But soon, it becomes clear that one of the members of the DTC – all pickled-in-privilege Dilliwallahs – is a cold-blooded killer.
As the capital bristles with speculation and conspiracy theories, Crime Branch veteran ACP Bhavani Singh is appointed to investigate the case. Together with his able deputies – ex-lovers Akash ‘Kashi’ Dogra, hottie crusader for human rights, and Bambi Todi, wealthy girl-about-town – ACP Bhavani sets out to solve a crime that seems simple enough at the surface, but turns out to have roots as deep and spreading as those of New Delhi’s famous Neem trees.

A little taste of Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi
Traveling to other cities on work or otherwise anytime soon? Have you asked the obvious question on your social media about where to eat while you're there? You must have received a plethora of answers and you don't want to spend time sifting through all of them. How about we narrow it down for you and you can stay focused on the eating-your-heart-out part. We'll tell you where you can go to find the best in cities like Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai for starters.
Keep these bookmarked for your next visit.
Bangalore
Introducing some of the best south Indian food to you with Southindies in Indiranagar. Not exactly a restaurant for local fare but you will find the best food from all south Indian states. Arisi urundai from Tamil Nadu, kadala curry and parota from Kerala, Mysore masala dosa from Karnataka, Andhra chilli mushroom from Andhra Pradesh are a few among the others from a lavish vegetarian buffet style fare you can have here. If that's one too many vegetables for you, there's Anupam's Coast 2 Coast in MG Road. Dig into coastal specialties like crab curry, prawn masala fry, mussels sukka, chicken ghee roast and more.
Tumblr media
Can't do Bangalore without paying a visit to a local pub. That's why we have Toit. This pub is already popular among people from out of town and locals make sure everyone visits it at least once. Don't forget to try their Tin Tin beer and pizzas. If you want to get a real taste of what old school Bangalore pubs are, then head to Pecos on Brigade Road. From appam and stew breakfasts to a pitcher of draught beer with a plate of chilli chicken, you can enjoy a good old fashioned pub meal right in the heart of Bangalore.
Tumblr media
Of course, you can't leave without getting yourself some greasy masala dosa, fluffy idlies and crisp vadas with sambar and chutney and the mighty filter kaapi (coffee for the uninitiated). If you have the time and patience to wait for a seat, you should go to Mavalli Tiffin Room (MTR) in Basavanagudi. This is where the rava idli was invented. But we'll anyway tell you what to order: Masala dosa, rava idli and finish this off with filter coffee and then thank all the food gods. If you are in and around west Bangalore do stop by at Shri Sagar (CTR) for their unusually crisp and super delicious dosa. They too have some good filter coffee.
Delhi
As any good food lover, one must start with breakfast. And when you're in Delhi, the options are plenty. One for sure is Chache Di Hatti. Their limited menu has chole kulche, aloo wale chole bhature and sade chole bhature which are enough to give you a true Dilli style breakfast. You could also try Sita Ram Diwan Chand in Paharganj for their legendary chole bhature. If you want a more non desi fare, try The All American Diner for their bagels, French toast, waffles and pancakes.
Tumblr media
When in Delhi, eat chaat like a Dilliwallah. The colourful alleys of Chandni Chowk are filled with shoppers and hole-in-the-wall kind of joints that serve some of the best chaat you'd find in the country. Take a bite of dahi bhalla from Natraj Dahi Bhalle Wale and you're sure to experience a flavour showdown in your mouth. Then go to Jung Bahadur Kachori Wala for the flakiest and most delicious kachoris. For something sweet head to Chaina Ram Sindhi Confectioners for their ghewar and gulab jamun. Else, try some piping hot and crisp jalebis soaked in warm sugar syrup at Old Famous Jalebi Wala. Actually, do both.
Tumblr media
If there's one thing Delhi folks know, is how to party. Be it on Bollywood music or the latest from around the globe - they are sure to keep the night going and drinks flowing. After all the food from Chandni Chowk you've got shake a leg or two to burn it all, or simply lounge with some of the finest cocktails. The new kid on the block these days is Prankster, in Gurgaon. Not just local and imported beer, they have some good house brews too. And their food is not just plain old pub grub, but a delicious mix of Indian and international dishes. Kitty Su is one of the more established party spots that most Delhiites have paid a visit at least once. They are known for their cocktails and a place where you can bust out some moves. Another place for good food, cocktails and good times is Monkey Bar. Go there with your friends, get some cocktails, some pizza, shoot some pool and make a night of it.
Mumbai
The city that never sleeps, they say. But you've got to wake up and have breakfast, don't you? Let's give you a little taste of what the locals here eat on the go. Try some misal pav at Mamledar Misal in Thane West. A plate of the misal pav and some kokam sarbat to cool off will set you back ₹75. The iconic Bombay sandwich - green chutney slathered on buttered bread and veggies scattered about, then pressed in a grill to toast both sides to give you an utterly delicious sandwich - is available on any street corner. But if you're in Breach Candy, head to the Right Place for some of that toasted goodness with some ice cream for company. For cafe lovers there's Bistro 1 in Lokhandwala or Candies in Pali Hill. These old favourites won't disappoint you either.
Tumblr media
For lunch, we'd like for you to roll up your sleeves and tuck into some of the best seafood you'd find in the country. Serving some of the finest seafood since 40 years is Trishna in Fort. Don't forget to try their signature dish, crab in butter pepper garlic sauce. A home style set up and serving pretty much everything in the ocean is Fresh Catch in Mahim. If you want to try some authentic Malwani style food then there's Chaitanya in Dadar West. Of course, not to forget the Mangalorean fare at Mahesh Lunch Home that has gained so much popularity outside of Mumbai that they've opened branches in Pune, Bangalore and Dubai.
Tumblr media
You can stay awake with the city too at some of the best bars there. On the lines of your friendly neighbourhood bar is Elbo Room in Khar. With their retro music, delicious cocktails and a vibrant ambiance, they're sure to win you over.
