Let me tell you something. I’m not necessarily a fan of Lebron James by any stretch of the imagination, but a dirty play has occurred by Memphis Grizzlies Guard/Forward Dillon Brooks and I didn’t like and still don’t like how double standards of suspensions in the NBA are being implemented because it’s interesting of how the NBA suspended Golden State Warriors Forward Draymond Green for stomping Sabonis, who plays for the Sacramento Kings because of a leg pulling, but Memphis Grizzlies Guard/Foward Dillon Brooks doesn’t get suspended for hitting Los Angeles Lakers Forward Lebron James in the groin area, even though that the Los Angeles Lakers somehow managed to pull things through vs the Memphis Grizzlies as a result of Dillon Brooks being ejected, so I just feel like that the NBA might be trying incentivize double standards of suspensions for dirty behaviors on the basketball court and people who condone encourage Lebron James getting hit in the groin by Dillon Brooks need to obviously grow the fuck up because the Memphis Grizzlies are a classless and dirty NBA team and the NBA should do a better job of how suspensions are being implemented.

My hopes for WWE & AEW in 2021 and things I hope changes  for WWE and AEW in 2021
Hopes
WWE
Roman Reigns stays dominant and reigns supreme as the Tribal Chief
Keith Lee wins the Royal Rumble,  joins The Hurt Business and brings the WWE Champion to the Hurt Business
Naomi returns and joins The Hurt Business and dethrones Asuka to take home the gold
The Hurt Business DOMINATES Raw
Bianca Belair wins the Royal Rumble and dethrones Sasha Banks at Wrestlemania
The Riott Squad win the Women’s Tag Team Champions
Unify the men’s Tag Team Championships
Unveil a new Title and give us WWE’s very first Television Championship. It should be styled similar to the NWA and WCW’s TV belts, but on the sideplates it should include USA and Fox on the plates. Shelton Benjamin or Ricochet should be the TV Championship
Big E reigns supreme as Intercontinental Champion and finally gets to face Roman for the Universal Championship at Wrestlemania 38
Rhea Ripley gets called up and goes to Smackdown
Mercedes Martinez dethrones Io Shirai and becomes NXT Women’s Champion
Karrion Kross reclaims the NXT Championship
Anyone but Johnny Sameface as NXT North American Champion
Queen Of The Ring. The amount of female talent available on Raw, SmackDown, NXT and NXT UK is quite something. It's clear that this is the richest women's division in WWE history. They really should do something with all those workers. The 'Mae Young Classic' tourneys have been fine, but people would trip over themselves to see a fully-fledged 'Queen Of The Ring' epic staged across multiple nights. If booked correctly, this tournament could help establish a new contender for top titles. If she isn't Champion by then(though she should be) the perfect person to become Queen Of The Ring would be Bianca Belair! Bianca Belair would have unparalleled credibility for her 'StrongEST, FastEST, ToughEST' mantra if she whipped a bevy of skilled workers to become the first 'Queen'. WWE could also get creative by linking the event in with Charlotte Flair's nickname and spinning off into a feud between her and the winner afterwards.
Form Full-Time Female Tag-Teams and keep them around. The Women’s Tag Team DIvision is a mess. Keep creating makeshift Tag Teams and breaking up established tag teams and your tag team division is dead. The current champs and their predecessors haven't even been "proper" full-time duos - Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler were shoved together awkwardly in the summer, and they've since been replaced by the unlikely Asuka and Charlotte Flair combo. This cannot be allowed to continue. It's damning that WWE don't have more fully-formed pairings ready to go. The Riott Squad are perhaps the only actual twosome who are presented as a tight-knit collective weekly. Other than that, who is there? Considering the belts have been around for a few years now, that's unacceptable. The IIconics split, so did Sasha Banks and Bayley, and the scene is littered by 'odd couple' tandems like Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce, and Billie Kay teaming with the likes of Natalya or Tamina when it suits.
Ensure NXT is treated like a proper third brand rather than a quasi-development league for Raw and SmackDown. NXT has been on USA Network for over a year now, but it's still very much behind both Raw and SmackDown as a priority. Need proof? Look at the way Keith Lee was handled when he was "called up" after SummerSlam 2020. The former NXT Champ had to start all over again, and he's had several teething problems on Monday nights. It'd be nice to see WWE move away from positioning NXT as a 'feeder' for the other two shows. Changing someone's gimmick when they leave makes the brand look less-than, and there's simply no need for that anymore; NXT should be an equal to Raw and SmackDown, not a development league. Sadly, it still comes across as that. Lee's stop/start plight and the (mis)fortunes of others like Aleister Black and Ricochet should be a lesson to WWE. Some workers are better off rocking the black and yellow, not the red or blue.
AEW
Darby Allin becomes AEW World Heavyweight Champion
Adam Page costs Kenny the title and Page gets revenge and DESTROYS Kenny
MJF destroys the inner circle from within and when Jericho realizes what just happened, that’s when MJF and Wardlow destroys Jericho
Which is when we get a Sammy Guevara babyface turn and we get MJF vs Sammy
Arn Anderson turns on Cody
AEW’s Four Horsemen is formed. MJF, Shawn Spears and FTR with Tully and Arn managing as the JJ DIllon mouthpieces
Darby Allin and MJF feud for the title
The Women’s Division is improved. The girls get more time to shine on Dynamite. Your champion actually appears(shocking, I know) and build feuds and stories for your women’s division. There’s still some time to do what’s right for your women’s division, but the only thing that remains to be seen, does the powers that be of AEW even care?
Get a new title design for the Women’s Championship. It looks like a toy for a child. It’s plastic, not gold.  It should be as big and beautifully designed as the men’s titles. It should be as big as the NWA’s title or even the WWE’s title. The title is symbolic as to how AEW treats it’s own women’s division and that needs to change with a fresh new design.
Sign Thunder Rosa. It may not fix everything with the women’s division, but it gives you your needed star power. Tony Khan should be begging on his hands and knees to sign Thunder Rosa in 2021 after her time with the NWA is up, his women’s division is getting their asses kicked by what his EVP refers to as a “developmental brand”
If you can’t sign Thunder Rosa. My solution is Push Anna Jay and  Britt Baker as the top face and heel of the women’s division and either of them dethrone Shida.
Changes
WWE
Leave whatever that monstrosity of a creative team they have for RAW is. Let the Wrestlers dictate what they want their characters to be. Ditch the scripted promos. Let promos feel organic and real. Let the wrestlers be characters who feel real and genuine. Get rid of a “Creative” that isn't creative and let the wrestlers be creative and let them be free of terrible creative.
Get rid of the Gimmick PPV. WWE has ruined gimmick matches by turning them into themed PPVs. none of these matches are organic or special anymore. The matches themselves are great but are booked to fit a theme of a pay-per-view, when they should be used organically at the height of feuds. no one cares about the name of PPVs, so i don’t understand why WWE does this. the only one that actually works is MITB, because it makes sense as storylines reset after Mania.
Scrap the Brand Warfare/Brand Supremacy. WWE should scrap the tired brand warfare format at Survivor Series and move away from Raw vs. SmackDown completely. Booking around a calendar has become company law in WWE over the past decade or so. Perhaps McMahon always formatted things this way really, but it's more glaring now that gimmick bouts like Elimination Chamber, Hell In A Cell and Money In The Bank have their own pay-per-views. Survivor Series, with it's played out Raw vs. SmackDown vibes, also needs a rethink. "Brand warfare" is boring now, and it has been for several years. Although 2020's event was fun, it's nonetheless true that the month-long build to Survivors feels like a repetitive slog fans are forced to sit through every November. Hopefully, 2021 will change that. It is possible to book traditional elimination bouts without some sort of false show loyalty - WWE did this almost every single year until the first brand split in 2002. Their over-reliance on Raw vs. SmackDown is plain lazy. Survivor Series should be revolved around great rivalries between stables/factions. It’s really not that hard. Or at the very least if there IS a Smackdown vs Raw themed Survivor Series, at least add a damn reward. Give the brand a head start in the Rumble,, give the winners of the match number one contenders for their brand’s respective titles or ANYTHING better than just “brand supremacy lol”
Get rid of the 24/7 title. It has run it’s course. R-Truth is funny, but even he can’t make it work anymore.
Stop. Breaking. Up. Tag Teams. Stop killing your Tag Team Division. For the love of god just stop!
Cut Akira Tozawa’s ninja bullshit. It’s not funny, it’s annoying
Kill Retribution. It’s complete garbage. It has been consistently terrible ever since Retribution began. Mustafa Ali cannot save Retribution, he’s trying but no one can save it.
Stop the 50/50 booking
Stop rewarding Nia Jax, the living botch machine for injuring her fellow wrestlers
Stop pushing Lars Sullivan. Absolutely no one wants him.
They should cut raw to 2 hours because 3 hours is unbearable
Stop the overreliance of part time wrestlers. I don’t want to see Goldberg being pushed at the expense of today’s talent and I don’t want to see Goldberg period. I don’t want to see Brock Lesnar return at the expense of today’s talent. I don’t want to see Legends return. Push your current fucking wrestlers and make stars. You idiots!
Do not rush Becky Lynch back to the ring, she just had a baby. I read the reports that Vince wants Becky back by Wrestlemania. That is a terrible decision
Stop killing pushes because Vince changed his mind
Enough with “creative has nothing for you” if your “creative” has nothing for a certain wrestler, then they are not creative. Either let the wrestlers appear on the show or release them if you don’t want them anymore, it’s simple as that.
Do. Not. Put. The. Title. On. Goldberg. Goldberg should not have beaten Bray Wyatt's 'Fiend' for the Universal Title at Super ShowDown in February - that was a huge mistake, one that set Bray back and felt totally unnecessary. In 2021, WWE should outright avoid any temptation to repeat the trick and give ol' Billy another go-around with one of the top titles. If anything, Goldberg's only purpose should be to play victim for a quick Roman Reigns squash. Get through that elusive match then turn Bill into a company ambassador. He doesn't need to pretend it's still 1998 all these years on.
AEW
Leave the overabundance of spots just for the sake of spots and enough with the false finishes. Jim Ross was right, like it or not, the spots for the sake of spots and the false finishes need to end. This is my major problem with AEW and why I can’t stand The Elite in general. Everyone just needs to  get their shit in. Everything looks fake. No one can look strong or credible and we have to see garbage Indy wrestlers and the spot monkeys make everything look fake and phony. The champions never look credible and everyone is on the level of job guys. This needs to change
Stop leaving your Women’s Champion off the show. It is downright insulting how dirty they are doing Hikaru Shida. She deserves as much time to shine as the other champions deserve.
Stop putting the NWA Women’s Champion as more of a priority than your own Women’s Champion
Enough with Brandi. Why is the women’s division given absolutely 0 screentime and barely anytime to develop their stories, but Brandi is ALWAYS THERE! Everything has to be about her. When a feud between Cody and Shaq was close to happening, of course it had to be about her. She’s turned heel/face as much time as the Big Show. I’ve grown tired of Brandi Rhodes. Stop shoving that attention whore down our throats. WE GET IT! You wanna be Stephanie so bad!
Enough with Cody’s big dramatic midlife crisis entrances. We get it, you wanna be Triple H SO BAD!
Stop the petty bullshit shots at WWE. It was fun at first, but it’s getting annoying. This is Eric Bischoff giving away the results and “That’ll put butts in the seats” level of petty bullshit. AEW had the fucking nerve to tweet a fan’s post saying they did a better tribute for Brodie Lee than WWE. HE JUST DIED! AND YOU ARE MAKING IT ABOUT YOUR FUCKING RIVALRY? GROW THE FUCK UP!

20 AEW Dark and Elevation Regulars that AEW should sign
Tumblr media
Now I know, AEW has a very stacked roster, in fact I've considered writing an essay on the risk of AEW's growing roster being top-heavy
I mean we've barely scraped the potential of Brian Cage, Scorpio Sky, Wardlow, Sammy Guevara, TH2, Sonny Kiss, Matt Sydal, Proud and Powerful, Nick Comoroto, Will Hobbs, Serena Deeb (who I know is injured atm), and many more. But with Rampage oncoming maybe there is room for them.
But, we'll stick a pin in that for now, because tonight is AEW's 100th Episode of Dark. A big deal still considering it's one of AEW's 2 weekly youtube wrestling shows, and one of AEW's many Youtube weekly shows if you include vlogs such as BTE, SammysVlogs, Ethan Page's vlog and the AEW-promotional Countdown to and Outside the Ring with Lexy Nair segments and the Unrestricted Podcast. In the pandemic era, Dark became a home to several indie talents in need for work, some got signed but not all, so I'm gonna list 10 men's and 10 women's wrestlers who were regulars on Dark and Elevation who AEW can and should still sign
Note: I will not be including wrestlers who look set for regularity, so Wheeler Yuta, Jora Johl, Fuego and the Wingmen won't be on the list, as will any AEW Women's tournament entrants (Maki Itoh, Madi Wrenkowski, Nicole Savoy etc.). Danny Limelight and Konosuke Takeshita are also signed to MLW and DDT Pro just fyi
10 Men AEW should sign
The men's division is already stacked, and it has a lot of up and comers too, but there are still a few areas where AEW's Dark stalwarts have proven they can fill a void for.
Honorable mentions for: JDX, El Australiano, M'Badu, Jake St. Patrick, Brick Aldridge, Megabyte Ronnie, Suge 'Pineapple Pete' D and Vary Morales. Also Kidd Bandit, but he hasn't wrestled on Dark or Elevation so I couldn't add him in.
10. Marty Casaus Better known as Marty 'the Moth' Martinez from Lucha Underground, Marty trained with AEW after some time out with injury and made some appearances on Dark. As the Moth, Marty demonstrated his character work as a gross heel, but his size was also an asset to his disturbed and near-psychotic persona.
9. Dean Alexander An alumnus of the Nightmare Factory, Alexander has frequented on Dark and Elevation usually in tag action where he hasn't been able to get his dickhead persona across. He is your traditional cocky heel which in the Nightmare Factory showcases has led to his hilarious downfalls, even losing to Negative One in his multiple failures to win in the Main Event of these showcases. Frankly, this is what Baron Corbin should be like if you're gonna mock him, he's also very impressive in the ring.
8. Dillon McQueen Another Nightmare Factory alum, Dillon McQueen has also only been used for jobbing, but his character is actually great. The King of Queens, Dillon brims charisma that would be a winner for crowds, but he has a babyface fire to him as well, easily could be a rising talent with the right training.
7. Dan Barry To be honest, I like his Hawaiian Shirts. He has a lot of experience in the indies and can work in a similar way Colt Cabana works balancing serious and comedy wrestling, would just be pretty cool to see him more.
6. & 5. TNT (Terrence and Terrell Hughes) Sons of D-Von Dudley, TNT have had less appearances on AEW as of recent, which is a shame, because they can definitely be developed as some of the next gen tag teams the Acclaimed and Blonds have been. AEW haven't shied from legacy wrestlers in the past, and the duo definitely have potential.
4. Chandler Hopkins Chandler Hopkins has shown up to be squashed by the big men a lot, but somehow he also manages to eke out some strong entertainment and fluid wrestling in it. His match against Brian Cage is an effective example of this. Like Fuego, Chandler is definitely someone you can use on the undercard for some enhancement, maybe even push up once more character comes across.
3. Ryzin Ryzin has stuck with AEW for quite a while now, even having skits on BTE. The Unholy Father however never got a W on AEW, which is a shame because he has character and promo skills in hand. He could easily be a fit for Chaos Project as well or teamed with Abandon in a James Mitchell kinda role.
2. Carlie Bravo One of the first class alums of the Nightmare Factory, Carlie Bravo remains charismatic and athletic in his showings, he even had a great little pairing with Shawn Dean until Dean's signing, I'd love to see them bring that back - two Navy veterans tearing up the tag scene would be pretty awesome.
1. Baron Black Few have stayed the course during the pandemic era like Baron Black. Debuting in April and still yet to get his first win, he was one of the three touted stars by Cody on Sammy's vlog who he encouraged to be booked around the world because of his workrate and skill. If anyone has earned it that isn't named Fuego del Sol (or that other name Cody mentioned), it's Baron Black.
10 Women AEW should sign In contrast to the men's division, AEW's women's roster does look like it could use some buffing, for midcard and even building more stars.
Honorable mentions are plenty in this one, so just missing out are the following: Ashley D'Amboise, Leila Grey, Renee Michelle, Jazmin Allure, Savannah Evans, Willow Nightingale, the Renegade Twins, Holidead, Kenzie Paige, Jennacide and Brooke Havok (who I would guess will be signed once her leg recovers).
10. Ashley Vox With or without her Sea Stars tag partner, Delmi Exo, Ashley Vox has proven herself a frequent flier for AEW. Talented in singles and tag competition. She also has a strong rapport with many of AEW's current roster.
9. Alex Gracia The Pink Dream has been on ROH as of recent but remains a freelancer, her last appearance being a squash from Dr. Britt Baker DMD. AEW must've been high on Gracia at one point because they gave her a title shot on Dynamite. With experience in Shimmer and Stardom, Gracia would definitely be a worthy addition.
8. Tesha Price Another woman who AEW put on Dynamite rare times, Tesha proved herself to play face and heel during her time on Dark and Elevation. As a heel she showed a lot of fire especially against KiLynn King and Ryo Mizunami, the Psycho Sweetheart definitely has something she can give to the division - who are tbf lacking in heels right now.
7. Vertvixen I am not sure what it is about Vertvixen specifically, but whenever I see her I think she has the look, not to mention the athleticism to boot. Her triple threat on MPW against Jennacide and Jazmin Allure was a definite highlight as of recent.
6. Miranda Alize A former Mae Young Classic competitor, like Jennacide and Gracia she's recently been used by ROH, but she is definitely a confident wrestler and does not shy from the intergender matches either, having fought Laredo Kid and Danny Limelight. She's worked with many impressive wrestlers too, including an Impact Knockouts Title match against Jordynne Grace and matches against Deonna, Taya and Tessa.
5. Reka Tehaka The Samoan Savage may've debuted on AEW's first ever house show, but regular Dark and Elevation appearances have been met with positive reactions. Being partly trained by the Nightmare Factory, Tehaka has done well to establish herself despite only wrestling for a year and a half, she could definitely be a prospect.
4. Veda Scott Okay, so I cheated a little by saying no competitors, but I could not leave out Veda on this list. She has in-ring talent and intergender experience - tagging with her Speedball husband - but on AEW Dark and the Deadly Draw she proved herself excellent on commentary. A female voice in the booth even for just the women's matches would go a long way for the division and Veda's the perfect voice for it.
3. Dani Jordyn The Mean Girl is definitely someone you can call a regular on Dark and Elevation. She works hard and works with a lot of main roster talent, and I don't think I've seen her put on a bad match. So it would be nice to reward her with a contract.
2. Diamante It still baffles me actually that Diamante has yet to become All Elite. Deadly Draw winner and involved in a lot of the Elevation/Dark women's feuds, Diamante has a wealth of knowledge and experience under her belt. She's still popular with fans and can easily step back into her LAX days by pairing with the Inner Circle. Few unsigned talent have won as much as her too, I would say it's when rather than if, but when is taking a long ass time.
1. KiLynn King The three names Cody praised highly were Fuego, Baron Black and KiLynn King, so I think above all else they should be given contracts. In fact, I was surprised King wasn't on the Dark 100 card, by virtue that although King has shown up on Dynamite a few times, she has been on Dark and Elevation 41 times since debuting in May 2020, it was a shock that someone so regular wasn't on the card. King showed she could work as the bully heel but also as a charismatic babyface, even having a little faction brewing with Swole and Red Velvet as RSK, but when crowds came back we seemed to drop the potential of AEW's first all-women faction. King is over with fans...so long as you don't put her against someone as over as Thunder Rosa, and she has put on some lowkey bangers during her time on AEW, especially the one against Riho. Tall and powerful, but fun in the ring and outside the ring with clips of her in the crowd chanting and even vibing to Angelico's music. King would definitely be on the top of my list of AEW Dark regulars that deserve a contract.
I'm sure I might've missed some and opinions may differ, but I think these lot would definitely be able to fit into AEW effortlessly thanks to their time on Dark and Elevation. Many of whom could be used to build or become future champions themselves, and I hope still to see more of them beyond Dark 100.

9 Ben Simmons trade packages that might actually make sense for both sides
Tumblr media
If the 76ers are really going to trade Ben Simmons soon, we have nine trade packages both sides should consider.
Ben Simmons’ days in Philadelphia have felt numbered ever since his woeful offensive performance contributed to the 76ers’ surprising second round loss to the Atlanta Hawks in 2021 NBA Playoffs. It was painful to watch Simmons at times during the series as he consistently bricked free throws and refused to attempt almost any fourth quarter shot — even a wide open dunk. As the Hawks finished off Philly in six games, head coach Doc Rivers and superstar teammate Joel Embiid essentially threw Simmons under the bus in the final postgame press conference.
The NBA waited for Simmons to be traded all summer, but it never happened. 76ers GM Daryl Morey reportedly asked for the moon for the 25-year-old All-Star, and no team was willing to meet his demands. It was easy to speculate that Morey wanted to hold on to Simmons as long as possible to see if a superstar guard like Damian Lillard would eventually hit the trade market.
Simmons has now taken matters into his own hands. He wants to be traded to a new team, and he’s threatening to hold out of training camp until it happens. With Simmons’ trade request hanging over the start of the season, we came up with nine possible deals and asked the corresponding SB Nation NBA communities how they felt about the proposed trade. These were the parameters for the deals:
I came up with each potential trade. They had to work on ESPN’s trade machine
The SB Nation communities gave their feedback on each deal. Sometimes that meant a thumbs up, sometimes it meant a thumbs down, sometimes it meant a counteroffer.
Every trade includes draft compensation of some kind. Since that’s where most of the negotiation on these deals will take place, we chose to keep it vague rather than come up with specific pick protections.
At the bottom of this story, Paul Hudrick from our 76ers community Liberty Ballers ranked his favorite proposed trade packages.
This was a fun exercise when we did it with James Harden a year ago, but the polarizing nature of Simmons’ game made this an even bigger challenge. As we learned, it isn’t easy to find a deal that satisfies the 76ers’ win-now desires while also making sense for the other side.
Here are nine deals we thought could make sense.
Pacers
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: Malcolm Brogdon and T.J. Warren + a pick for Simmons.
Why it might work: The Pacers finished ninth in the Eastern Conference last year, and their big addition of the offseason was head coach Rick Carlisle. This team is positioned to “win-now” with most of the rotation in its prime, but their ceiling isn’t all that high. Simmons is the type of player a franchise like the Pacers would be unlikely to land in free agency. It could be worth it to cash in a few pieces for a 25-year-old All-Star who is under contract long term, and then figure out the rest of the roster around him later. While the Pacers get a new foundational star, the 76ers get a starting point guard who can shoot and a wing bucket-getter who can immediately help Embiid in the playoffs.
What Indy Cornrows says:
This is so tough because A.) I love what this does for Philadelphia B.) Ben Simmons is the most talented player in the deal, the youngest, and on a long term contract; all things that would behoove the Pacers’ braintrust to make this trade. While I normally am talent over everything, the fit is just so wonky with a frontcourt of Sabonis/Turner/Simmons. If there were a subsequent deal with one of the bigs to bring in more perimeter talent, I think it makes sense, but the team can already struggle in halfcourt or late clock scoring situations. On top of that, Brogdon and Warren are both sub All-Star talents who the Pacers have no real replacement for. Again, it’s wonky, but worth thinking about.
As dynamic and good of a player as Ben is, he isn’t an elite driver at the moment (11.4 drives per 75) and Malcolm Brogdon is (15.2 drives per 75). We don’t talk about the rim finishing. But, in all seriousness, the Pacers would really struggle without Malcolm’s consistent ability to get to the rim. Getting there causes the defense to tilt even if you’re not finishing at an elite rate, so you’re banking a great deal on Ben and Caris LeVert getting to the cup with more consistency.
Simmons and Sabonis operate from similar spaces as high or mid post playmakers using their height and court vision to pick apart a defense. What does that look like with two players who aren’t being respected past the free throw line? Playmaking is probably the most important offensive skill in the league, you can never have enough, but the fit is certainly odd.
I would ultimately be in on this for Indiana, but admit that the team would probably not feel similarly. They view themselves as a win now team, and I think it would require a one step back two steps forward approach trying to restructure a younger team around Simmons after trading two of the three best perimeter options in the organization, while knowing more moves are happening in conjunction here.
If I could, I would counter with something involving the same players, but adding in Tyrese Maxey and a conglomeration of Pacers picks to make that trade worthwhile for the Sixers. Maxey would provide another building block towards a younger team with a brighter future and the Sixers would acquire more draft capital for subsequent moves to tweak the roster. It’s not perfect and I wouldn’t want to part with Maxey if I’m Daryl Morey, but I would certainly try and make it happen. — Mark Schindler
Spurs
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Devin Vassell + a pick for Simmons.
Why it might work: The Spurs finished No. 10 in the Western Conference last year, and lost their best player in free agency when DeMar DeRozan went to the Bulls. San Antonio has collected some solid young pieces in recent years, but no true star. Simmons would immediately become the face of the franchise, and his long-term deal would give the Spurs a few years to try to add talent around him. In return, Philly would get a dynamic offensive guard in White, an awesome defensive wing with shooting ability in Vassell, and a capable point guard in Murray.
What Pounding the Rock says:
Parting with their presumptive starting backcourt, in addition to the promising Vassell, is a hard pill to swallow for a team that’s invested so much in their development. But the Spurs have entered asset acquisition mode this summer for a reason: the roster as constructed probably doesn’t top out as a world-beater. Simmons doesn’t get them all the way there, but he should raise their ceiling and complement many of the remaining pieces’ strengths and weaknesses. — Bruno Passos
Cavaliers
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: Darius Garland, Isaac Okoro, and Ricky Rubio + a pick for Simmons.
Why it might work: The Cavs have been collecting top-five lottery picks ever since LeBron James bounced to LA, but the team is still far away from contention. Evan Mobley could be the face of the franchise moving forward, but it’s hard to tell exactly how good Cleveland’s other young players are. Like the Pacers, Simmons is the type of player the Cavs likely would never get in free agency. A team with Mobley and Simmons could have incredible defensive potential. The Cavs would have a log jam in the front court, but Simmons is under contract long enough for the team to reshape the rest of the roster around him in coming years. The 76ers would get an exciting young point guard in Garland who could be set for a breakout third year. Okoro is an awesome young wing defender who needs to improve offensively, and Rubio could help Philly at point guard right now.
What Fear the Sword says:
Maybe the Cavs do this as a talent play because Ben Simmons is no doubt better than anyone the Cavs currently have. But this is also a tricky deal because Garland is their best young creator and would fit well with Simmons. Okoro, meanwhile, is a standout defender just starting and they got Rubio. Simmons is also a tricky fit with a Evan Mobley-Jarrett Allen frontcourt. In reality, I think the Cavs probably do this because it’s a talent play and they have to take those. But I don’t really know why the 76ers would do this?
I also think the Cavs would want to try and move off of Kevin Love in any trade they make here, but that wouldn’t seem to fit with what the 76ers would want to do here. Simmons to Cleveland might just be too complicated to do unless a third team gets involved. — Chris Manning
Trail Blazers
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: C.J. McCollum and Robert Covington + a pick for Simmons and Thybulle.
Why it might work: The Sixers might dream of trading Simmons for Lillard, but it’s possible his backcourt mate is the best they can do right now. The 30-year-old McCollum would give the team a new lead guard in the backcourt who can score from all three levels and pairs well with Embiid. Covington is already a fan favorite for starting his career in Philly. Losing Thybulle in this might be a tough for the Sixers, but seems necessary for the contracts to match. From Portland’s perspective, an all-in move for Simmons could keep Lillard around long-term and give the Blazers the defensive stopper they’ve been missing.
What Blazer’s Edge says:
For the trade in question, the BE staff would accept that trade. Our only counter would be to make this trade less noisy. Let’s remove all the additional pieces and make this a straight CJ-for-Ben swap.
Simmons might not love the idea of Portland, but Klutch would unite one of their marquee players when one of their top coaching clients. With Larry Nance Jr. and Simmons in the fold, the Blazers’ defense would finally have the tools to compete with true contenders. — Steven Dewald
Grizzlies
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: Steven Adams, Dillon Brooks, and DeAnthony Melton + Jazz and Lakers 2022 first round picks for Simmons.
Why it might work: The Grizzlies have a great young foundation led by Ja Morant, but the team still has a long way to go before they reach contender status even after sneaking into the playoffs last year. Acquiring a blue chip talent like Simmons while keeping Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and a solid young complementary shooter in Desmond Bane would be a major boon. For the Sixers, Brooks could be an immediate starter on the wing, Melton is one of the more underrated players in the league, and Adams would be an elite backup center. The picks could come in handy for a future trade, too.
What Grizzly Bear Blues says:
If the Grizzlies could acquire a player that’s 25 years old and has been a 3-time All-Star, without giving up Ja Morant or Jaren Jackson Jr., they should pull the trigger - even for the oft-criticized Ben Simmons. Grizzlies followers would be reluctant to give up Dillon Brooks, but Simmons would serve as a defensive and playmaking upgrade. Brooks, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton sound like a good framework for the deal, and guys like Brandon Clarke or Desmond Bane could replace one of the guys in this deal. The rest will likely revolve around draft compensation, primarily the first-round picks from the Lakers and the Jazz in 2022 and maybe one of their own.
The allure of Ben Simmons is transforming him into a super-charged Draymond Green. What better duo for him to do that with than the electric Ja Morant and the sweet-shooting Jaren Jackson Jr.? — Parker Fleming
Timberwolves
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Jaden McDaniels + a pick for Simmons, Tybulle, and Isaiah Joe.
Why it might work: Minnesota reportedly has heavy interest in Simmons, and there are some pathways to a deal. This package would give the Sixers a starting guard in Russell, a high volume shooter in Beasley, and high-upside, young defensive forward in McDaniels. Russell may be a negative team value on his current deal, but Philly could also flip him down the line. For the Wolves, Simmons’ elite defense is a perfect match next to Karl-Anthony Towns in the front court. This trade might come down to what Philly thinks of McDaniels after a promising rookie year.
What Canis Hoopus says:
As a Wolves fan/writer, I wouldn’t do this trade. DLo and Beasly are the two best perimeter shooters on the team and Jaden McDaniels looks like the steal of the 2020 draft. I also don’t think the Sixers are interested in Russell. I think the Wolves big plan is to win with Simmons AND Russell together so I’ll propose this. The Timberwolves trade Malik Beasley, Jaden McDaniels, Taurean Prince, 2022 FRP, and 2024 FRP for Ben Simmons and Isaiah Joe.
The Wolves keep Russell, meanwhile the Sixers get extra pieces they can include in a trade once another star becomes available like Dame or Beal. Prince also cannot be traded until September 27th but teams could agree in principle. — Cooper Carlson
Raptors
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: Goran Dragic, OG Anunoby, Chris Boucher, and Malachi Flynn for Simmons, Thybulle, and Isaiah Joe.
Why it might work: The Raptors are embarking on a new era without Kyle Lowry, and it sure feels like they want a full team of big, athletic forwards with multi-dimensional skill sets. Simmons would fit. While a 1-for-1 swap with Pascal Siakam is possible, Raptors HQ chose to talk about this deal centered around OG Anunoby instead. Anunoby is a tremendous young wing who would be a plug-and-play starter for the 76ers. Boucher is a stretch big off the bench, Flynn is a promising young point guard, and Dragic could play a role right now in the last year of his deal. For the Raptors, a core of Simmons, Siakam, VanVleet, and Scottie Barnes could be the start of something big.
What Raptors HQ says:
This is definitely one of the more creative Raptors-76ers trade ideas that I’ve seen! Here, you’re moving two players who clearly want to be moved in Ben Simmons and Goran Dragic, and that’s a good starting point. The 76ers also need a point guard, and I think Dragic would quickly become a fan-favourite in Philly, assuming he hasn’t lost a step.
Beyond that? Well, OG Anunoby becomes the real sticky point here. Yes, I realize that Anunoby is more highly valued by Raptors fans, including me, than he is anywhere else. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t deserved. For an example of that, look no further than… Matisse Thybulle, who made all-defence last year over the more deserving Anunoby last season!
Still — if we remove the Klutch factor here (Anunoby is a Klutch client) — if you had to move OG to get Simmons, getting Thybulle in return to fill OG’s spot is not a bad thing. Imagine fielding a lineup of Simmons, Thybulle, Pascal Siakam, Scottie Barnes and Precious Achiuwa? I bet Masai Ujiri, Bobby Webster and Nick Nurse would give that one some serious thought. — Josh Kern
Kings
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield for Simmons.
Why it might work: The Kings are already reportedly out on this deal, and it makes sense. Haliburton was awesome as a rookie. He might be the most appealing piece in any of the packages we mention in this article. Still, there’s a case for why the Kings should consider this. Simmons is a young All-Star signed long-term. Trading for arguably the best defensive player in the game is a great way to address what was the league’s worst defense last year. The Kings also have a promising rookie guard in Davion Mitchell who could take Haliburton’s place in the lineup. It’s totally fair if the Kings and their fans don’t like this deal, but it’s at least worth considering.
What Sactown Royalty says:
This is a highly-risky move for the Kings that I would not want to see come to fruition.
Tyrese Haliburton is an essential piece of the young core Sacramento is trying to build around alongside De’Aaron Fox. The Kings would essentially be trading Haliburton, who finished third in Rookie of the Year voting last season, and Buddy Hield, the best 3-point shooter in the league, in return for good defense.
The way this is set up, Kings undoubtedly lose the deal. Instead, I would offer Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III and a future pick in return for Ben Simmons. The relationship between Bagley and Kings brass isn’t quite as hostile as Simmons and the Sixers, but it’s no secret they both want out of their respective markets. Philly would acquire a young wing who wants a fresh start while Sacramento would do the same. — Marina Drab
Warriors
Tumblr media
Framework of the deal: Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, Moses Moody + a pick for Simmons.
Why it might work: The Warriors are trying to augment their aging championship core with young, unproven talent taken at the top of the draft. It sounds like a good plan in theory, but Golden State also can’t afford to waste time while Stephen Curry is still playing at an MVP level. Trading young pieces for Simmons would be a major boost in the short-term for Golden State, and immediately improve their chances at coming out of the West this year. For the Sixers, Wiggins could contribute on the wing right away, while Moody and Wiseman are nice long-term pieces. This deal may not give the Sixers the immediate talent infusion they’re looking to add, but the young pieces could be flipped in another deal down the road.
What Golden State of Mind says:
The main concern with Simmons on the Warriors seems to be whether the team can make a non-shooter work next to Draymond Green. But the Warriors have built elite offenses in the past with frontcourts of Green and Kevon Looney, Green and JaVale McGee, Green and Zaza Pachulia, and so on and so forth. The Warriors would have to eschew having a traditional center for it to work, but Simmons is bigger than many traditional centers (including Looney). With Simmons and Green, the Warriors would have a frontcourt starring two of last year’s Defensive Player of the Year finalists, and two of the top 12 assists per game leaders, who would be passing the ball to Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. You have to be mighty high on Wiggins to think this does anything but dramatically increase the team’s title odds in the next few years, and that’s before mentioning how perfect of a fit Thybulle is on the Warriors. Maximizing a title window around a 33-year old Curry is more important than hoping that two draft lottery tickets in Wiseman and Moody pan out. It’s an easy yes for me, though it’s worth noting that Golden State’s front office is reportedly split on Simmons, so it may not be an easy yes for them. — Brady Klopfer
Liberty Ballers ranks the Ben Simmons trade packages
Paul Hudrick from our 76ers community Liberty Ballers stopped by with his thoughts on his favorite potential deals.
1. San Antonio - Murray, White, Vassell + a pick
The reason I like this deal better than most is the addition of Murray. Say what you want about Simmons, but he was the runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year and is arguably the most versatile defender in the league. Getting a player like Murray that already has an All-Defensive Team nod would help mitigate the loss of Simmons on that end. At 25, you could talk yourself into Murray’s potential offensive upside — despite him not being a perfect fit playing next to Embiid — while also seeing a big role in helping the Sixers win now.
White would immediately become the Sixers’ sixth man and would be a damn good one. The Sixers’ bench has talent and potential but is awfully young. At 27, White adds maturity and experience. I love Vassell, but he is a tough fit here with wings like Matisse Thybulle, Furkan Korkmaz and Isaiah Joe that fit a similar mold. You can never have enough good, young wings, but I might prefer another pick or someone like Keldon Johnson, who offers more perimeter shot-creation potential, something the Sixers desperately need. — Paul Hudrick
2. Indiana - Brogdon, Warren + a pick
You could argue this deal makes more sense with the Sixers looking to maximize Embiid’s prime. Brogdon gives the Sixers a traditional point guard that can help space the floor even more for Embiid while also providing solid defense. I love the idea of Warren — especially the bubble version that destroyed the Sixers — as either the team’s starting three or a flamethrower off the bench. Both players offer more perimeter creation than what’s on the current roster.
The reason I like the Spurs deal better is trepidation over the health of both Indiana players. Brogdon, who isn’t the most explosive player to begin with, has missed time with various injuries over the last three seasons. Warren missed all but four games last season after having foot surgery. Both players are 28 and have proven NBA track records — which aligns with what the Sixers want — but their injury histories would make me want more draft compensation. — Paul Hudrick
3. Sacramento - Hield, Haliburton
Adding more shooting in Hield makes a ton of sense. The more shooting around Embiid the better. My only concern is that I’d imagine Hield would come here with the expectation to start. That would mean one of Danny Green or Seth Curry — who were both excellent last season — would have to move to the bench, something I’m not sure Doc Rivers wants to do.
While Haliburton doesn’t necessarily fit the mold of a win-now acquisition, that’d be a strong return. Haliburton replaces Simmons as a big playmaker but with the ability to shoot. Would he be ready for the moment in the postseason? I think it’s 100 percent worth finding out … if Sacramento is willing to move him. — Paul Hudrick

The NBA Play-in: The moments the young Memphis Grizzlies grew up

The NBA Play-in: The moments the young Memphis Grizzlies grew up
Tumblr media
The play-in games were a resounding success for the National Basketball Association. Obviously, single elimination games have this fascinating mystique around them. With it added into the NBA, and with fans entering the arenas again, it made these situations that much sweeter.
The play-in games were a resounding success for the Memphis Grizzlies as well. They had great tests in both games against teams with riches of playoff experience compared to this young squad. San Antonio had Gregg Popovich — arguably the most successful NBA coach of the 21st century — and a good blend of battle-tested veterans (DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Patty Mills, to name a few). After a strong win there, they had to enter the Chase Center to battle Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and the rest of the Warriors on the road.
It was no small task ahead, but the Memphis Grizzlies prevailed and grew immensely from it.
Now after a month since the play-in tournament was played, let’s take a look at the different themes from these two games that illustrated growth for the Grizzlies.
In both play-in games, the Memphis Grizzlies got off to such strong starts. It wasn’t uncharacteristic for them to do so, as they were 11th in first-quarter net rating (+2.6) and 5th in first-period defensive rating (108). Granted, rating rankings have a slim separation statistically. Nonetheless though, it suggests they’re a pretty good first quarter team.
However, for most young teams those first 12 minutes of playoff-intensity games can be nerve racking and could start slow starts. The Grizzlies’ strong starts demonstrated great poise for a young team, as they outscored their two opponents 68-48 in those minutes. They also amassed incredible runs in those stretches as well — including a 19-2 run against the Spurs, and a 14-3 one against the Warriors.
Starting with the home game, the Grizzlies utilized the meaning of home-court advantage — a beauty that we actually got to experience in this COVID-ravaged season.
youtube
Ja Morant pulled the offense out of the 4-on-4 fast break. Jonas Valanciunas runs the floor since DeMar DeRozan oddly enough didn’t already beat him down the floor. Since Jakob Poetl — the primary rim protector — was playing the potential screen from Jaren Jackson Jr., there was an opening for Valanciunas to rumble down the lane for a thunderous jam. That’s always something that’ll get the crowd going.
Then, there was the resounding fast-break jam from Dillon Brooks that was probably the staple of the Grizzlies 1st-quarter run.
youtube
It was the classic “turning defense into offense” — a sweet way to get the momentum rolling on your end and away from the opposition. Brooks corrals the steal, audaciously looks off Morant, and throws down a vicious tomahawk slam right over Dejounte Murray.
In that same quarter, we saw the flashes from Jaren Jackson Jr. that make him such a tantalizing offensive prospect.
youtube
This sequence illustrates the duo potential of Morant and Jackson. Morant is going to garner attention off of the drive, like most good finishers. Poetl tags Morant, while Lonnie Walker — his original man — goes over to help. Since Keldon Johnson has to play help to prevent the Valanciunas bucket, Jackson relocates to a window Ja could whip a pass through for the in-rhythm 3.
youtube
This recognition from Jackson was ridiculous. He curls so far out that he’s not even in the frame here. It has to be 30 feet out! Johnson is caught ball-watching here, while probably waiting for Anderson to make the pass over to Valanciunas in order to make a deflection.
Though that 1st quarter lead vanished and didn’t seem as impactful in the process, it helped the Grizzlies establish a tone to energize the crowd, while also get its other franchise cornerstone going early.
The Grizzlies continued their excellent 1st quarter starts on the road against Golden State. That one was extremely imperative, as road games against the Warriors can still be dangerous for slumps. They possess the greatest scorer of all time in Steph Curry, and it seems like an avalanche whenever he’s humming.
However, the Grizzlies did an excellent job staying composed, setting the tone, and establishing an aggressive mindset. When it comes to those 3 things, this play pops to mind:
youtube
Dillon Brooks sent a message here that the Grizzlies were going to swarm defensively, and they were going to win every 50-50 ball. Again, turning defense into offense is a great way to find your footing early in high-stakes games.
With that in mind, this is probably the sequence most Grizzlies fans would appreciate the most:
youtube
Limited sample size, but Jaren Jackson Jr. nearly doubled his offensive rebound percentage from last season to this one (3.6 to 6.9). Though caught near the perimeter, Jackson chases the long rebound — probably gets away with a little bit of an “over the back” call — and gets reward with a trip to the line following an aggressive take to the basket.
Moving over to the offensive end, Ja Morant got going from deep en route to a career night from downtown.
youtube
Curry or Kevon Looney did not pay a single bit of respect to Morant on this jumper. Curry decided to go under the Valanciunas screen, while Looney stayed in drop coverage to play the roll. It allowed Morant to step into a 3 in rhythm to knock down his 2nd triple of the game, instilling more confidence in his outside game.
Young squads could get rattled early in playoff situations, especially when it’s unfamiliar to them. We even saw it a bit from the Grizzlies in the Utah series. Their composure and poise in the play-in games demonstrated maturity and growth from the young Memphis team.
Tumblr media
Scott Strazzante/San Francisco Chronicle via Getty Images
How the Grizzlies defended their opponent’s go-to scorer was one of the defining moments of the play-in games.
It served as the prelude to Dillon Brooks’ 2021 postseason breakout. He was tasked with defending DeRozan and Curry, and he lived up to his role as “defensive stopper.” He held DeRozan to 2-10 shooting as the primary defender, and Curry was 5-12 against him as well. The Curry numbers may not be as glorious as his other strong matchup data points (see: Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard or Luka Doncic), but he made it difficult for him to get shots off with a vigorous face-guard.
He surely does get more individual praise for his defensive performance against DeRozan, and rightfully so. He forced him into tough, uncomfortable shot attempts, while not falling for too many fakes.
youtube
While Brooks is fighting through the screen here, Valanciunas hedges the screen a bit until Brooks is over the Poetl pick. Once he’s free, he flies into DeRozan’s shot to force him into a rough miss.
There was another good hedge moment here between Valanciunas and Brooks late in the game. Off the high screen, Valanciunas does a great job of moving his feet until Brooks could recover. As the big man returns to drop coverage, DeRozan is forced into a tough sideline floater with a defender flying through to contest the shot.
youtube
Brooks’ physicality remained a strong trait in another resumé-building performance as a defensive stopper — the good (tough contests like this), and the bad (5 fouls).
youtube
This defensive epitomizes Brooks’ performance on DeRozan. Here, he bodies up DeRozan just enough to bother him, but not too much to create the foul call. Once he gets to that step-back, Brooks makes sure to get in a spot where he’s in his airspace without being completely in his landing spot — which would’ve given him a foul.
It wasn’t just Brooks tasked with stopping DeRozan. The Grizzlies put together an awesome scheme centered to stop him, leading to an uncharacteristic 5-21 night for the veteran star. It really ended with Jonas Valanciunas here. He’s often criticized on that end for his inability to guard out on the perimeter, but he was able to use drop coverage to a strength more against the mid-range maestro.
youtube
This sequence triggered evergreen memories of my basketball coach growing up screaming at our team to cut off the baseline. Jonas Valanciunas demonstrates one of the potential pluses in doing so. He has to hedge off the Dieng screen before Desmond Bane could recover. In the process, he forces DeRozan baseline which sends him to “no man’s land” and generates a turnover.
Again, Valanciunas showcases fantastic verticality here:
youtube
He helps off the DeRozan drive, and he maintains good rim protection instincts. He stays in control as the driver decelerates looking for contact, and he goes up with textbook verticality to swat the shot.
Switching over to Steph Curry, it was a bit of the opposite. Instead of a tough shooting night (still 13-28), the Grizzlies did a great job of blitzing him, forcing the Warriors into making quick decisions, and putting the supporting cast in positions to make plays without its star. Curry finished with 7 turnovers, the 6th time this season turning the ball over 7 or more times.
Before getting into Curry’s parade of turnovers, I want to showcase the defensive versatility of Jaren Jackson Jr.:
youtube
Jackson switches onto Curry off the screen and stays with him the entire drive. He forced him into the paint, where Xavier Tillman was ready to help. Both big men went straight up to swallow Curry’s shot and send it out of bounds to a Grizzlies’ possession.
Carrying on.
youtube
Ja Morant does a great job of stepping up into the switch, and Brooks tags the roller well too. Kent Bazemore is not the roller Curry is used to — story of the 2020-21 Warriors, right. Curry instinctually slips the short-roll pass to…nobodyleading to a turnover.
youtube
Xavier Tillman takes on the switch here and is really good at staying attached to his hip and in a spot where he could strongly contest the shot. The Grizzlies add extra pressure with Brooks stunting and Morant providing help. Curry is then forced to a mid-air decision, and the closest person near him is Juan Toscano-Anderson, and Morant is there for the steal.
The Grizzlies continued to swarm Curry and force him into quick, mid-air decisions that are either going to result in a wild shot, pass, or a travel.
youtube
Dillon Brooks and Kyle Anderson — the team’s two best perimeter defenders — blitz Curry out of the dribble hand-off. What is Anderson’s alternative? A Draymond Green 3? Though he splits between the two defenders momentarily, Anderson recovers to offer a strong enough contest — coupled with Valanciunas’ presence as well — to get him to pass cross-court out of his shot.
youtube
This play could’ve gone badly. Brooks probably should’ve played Andrew Wiggins’ roll, while Grayson Allen should’ve returned over to Steph Curry. Ja Morant saved the day here defensively though. Curry sees a sliver to whip a pass to Wiggins — and it’s a smart call, because an easy 2 for an athletic 6’9” wing is good offense. He was a bit too loose with the pass, and that — along with the pressure off Ja’s help defense — forces Wiggins to bobble the ball and turn it over.
youtube
In one of the largest possessions of the game, the Grizzlies come up with a massive turnover off of great defensive tactics. Tillman hedges the screen and forces him to the sideline, while Brooks recovers. It leaves Curry in a rough spot.
Let’s marvel at the defensive placement here:
Tumblr media
Grizz defense -> curry turnover
Tillman and Brooks are trapping. Morant is in the corner, taking away further drives or a pass to the corner. Anderson is playing the roller and taking anything away in the middle. Grayson Allen is playing a free safety role — ready for anything baseline or crosscourt. It leads to an errant, crosscourt pass that goes over Green’s head for the turnover.
This was just a wonderful display of defensive strategy that forced their opponent into tough decisions the whole night.
Defending veteran stars like Steph Curry and DeMar DeRozan helped the Grizzlies grow in multiple ways. It illustrated the importance of locking in to create turnovers and to help your teammate tasked with stopping that player. It helped Dillon Brooks grow as a primary stopper in playoff situations. It was also a growing opportunity for Taylor Jenkins to learn, adjust, and get crafty with defensive schemes.

The biggest area of growth for the Memphis Grizzlies during the play-in games was in late-game execution. It was definitely a nervous spot, as the Grizzlies had close games with playoff contenders over the course of the season, and lack of experience typically led to losses. Those regular-season moments served as learning opportunities to set them up for success when it mattered most.
The late-game execution, for the most part, was really good — aside from that non-challenge on the Jordan Poole 3 that would’ve sent all areas of Memphis Grizzlies coverage into a frenzy if they lost.
One thing we learned in these moments is, it always pays to have floor spacing around Ja Morant. He’s the driving force of the offense, and one that savors the opportunity to make big moments. If you give him space to operate, he will do so. Others, too, have the chance to shine and contribute whenever the defense collapses on Morant.
youtube
youtube
In both plays, there are at least 3-4 defenders that are geared towards what Morant is doing at the rim. Rightfully so. Morant’s vision and poise are assets here, as he’ll dish out passes you don’t think he’ll make. In both dimes, he rises up and contorts his body in a way to sling a pass over to the lone corner man for an easy 3.
Something else to highlight with this young team is the amount of winning plays made late in the game from the role players. Xavier Tillman and Grayson Allen both made an impact down the stretch, whether it was big 3’s or hustle plays. One I want to particular point out is this put-back from Desmond Bane.
youtube
Bane tracks the ball as soon as it leaves Morant’s hands, leading to an easy put-back. No groundbreaking analysis with basketball terminology there. However, it was a momentum-swinger that ultimately changed the trajectory of the game. With that put-back, the game goes from becoming a 2-possession game to 3. When there are only 90 seconds left, that’s massive.
Another cool aspect from the Warriors game, especially in crunch-time, was the Grizzlies’ willingness to let the other guys beat them. They were not going to let Curry be the one that put the dagger in. That was evident with hilariously bad missed bunnies from both Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green. They were going to make this supporting cast create for themselves and win them the game.
youtube
Both Brooks and Anderson played the dribble handoff extremely well, preventing any sort of look for Curry. Green is forced to turn to Poole, who dribbles it off his foot in a massive possession. Against top-heavy teams, there are two cases defensively: 1) let the star cook and worry about the other guys, or 2) stop the star and let the supporting cast beat you. Though Curry toughly got off his shots, the Grizzlies did an excellent job of forcing the ball out of his hands when it mattered most.
All of these particular executions wouldn’t be possible without a pure go-to closer. Every team has them. There are stars who face the moments head-on and live with either rising or falling in the process. Ja Morant got his first crack at the clutch, go-to moment on the road in a playoff environment.
It’s safe to say he rose above the moment.
youtube
Ja Morant got the switch he wanted, credit to the screeners for helping him do so. He was in a spot where he could hit the move that’s most comfortable for him: that hesi-dribble into the drive towards the left, then the right-handed floater. It’s absolutely money.
youtube
With a chance to ice the game, Morant didn’t falter under pressure. He sizes up Toscano-Anderson and gets back to that sweet spot where he wants his floater. Off to Cancun the Warriors go.
Yes, there were some inexperienced blunders. However, it didn’t break the Grizzlies this time. The Memphis Grizzlies grew from regular-season heartbreak to execute in the clutch when it mattered most. Role players saw the dividends from making the simple play. Coach Jenkins found the right combinations to ensure good half-court offense, while coming up with great defensive schemes. Then, its franchise point guard Ja Morant had his first moment to be a go-to scorer down the stretch in a playoff atmosphere.
These clutch moments are what expedites the growth process for a young team.
Tumblr media

All season long, Taylor Jenkins preached the importance of growth opportunities. Whether it was a losing in the clutch to a contender, dropping a game against an inferior opponent, or a big-time win over a bonafide playoff team — the vision of sustainable success was preached repeatedly throughout the year.
Those close losses to Milwaukee and Denver back in March prepared them to perform in the clutch in a “do or die” situation.
Dillon Brooks’ battles against the league’s elite prepared him to do so in games where the best players are expected to unload the clip.
All season, the players and coaches preached locking in for all 48 minutes, and that was backed up with strong 4th quarter play and staying active with the defensive gameplay.
For a season full of growth opportunities, the play-in tournament was a growing experience you cannot beat. The young Memphis Grizzlies grew up a lot in those two games — as well as the Utah series — and they’re more ready for whatever lies ahead.

Well, we asked you the question last week on how long it would take the WWE to break its own Draft rules. Well, it didn’t take long for our answer.
One week!
Just one week into the new landscape of RAW and SmackDown, we get SmackDown stars on RAW that weren’t supposed to be there. Otis, as El Gran Gordo, showed up to help his former Heavy Machinery partner Tucker. The Riott Squad, Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott took part in a fatal-four-way challenge to Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler.
But, in the very same season premiere episode of MNR, we are reminded that Big E can’t be with his New Day teammates due to the draft, so Big E shows up in the ThunderDome crowd to cheer on Kofi Kingston against Sheamus. Mixed messages? Damn straight.
See, that’s the thing about the WWE lately, especially on Monday Night RAW. They EXPECT you to not remember (or care) about the rules and the common sense. Storylines should, at the very least, be able to make sense and have us follow along at home. That’s how we get invested. It’s not that hard. NXT and SmackDown, along with other wrestling companies, understand this. I’m not quite sure why Monday nights don’t work the same way. But, then again, I do. It’s three words: Vincent Kennedy McMahon.
Enough said.
Now, it’s on to the week that was as we head straight to Hell (In A Cell)!

The Fiend & Alexa Bliss – Just one week in, they’ve taken over Monday nights. And we LOVE IT!

Opening segment(s) – Gotta be honest, I haven’t been a big fan of the RETRIBUTION storyline, but having them mingled between The Hurt Business and The Fiend with Alexa Bliss to open the show Monday night is a chance to give them new life. Granted, having them lose cleanly to The Hurt Business again isn’t helpful, but hopeful it’s just the beginning of the storyline. The Fiend and Alexa Bliss are megastars and having them in multiple segments on Monday nights will make it more watchable. Also, kudos to Mustafa Ali for a well-done promo giving some backstory to RETRIBUTION. It’s something we thought we were getting last week, but good to see they didn’t forget about it entirely.

The Hurt Business – Speaking of the strongest faction going in the WWE right now, The Hurt Business continues to be strong and do what they do best – whatever the hell they want. This week, it’s beating down Titus O’Neill after he wanted to bring his Worldwide brand to THB. THB is starting to remind me of the Four Horsemen, if only Bobby Lashley was the World Champion. And let’s be honest, MVP could outwrestle JJ Dillon any day.

— WWE Universe (@WWEUniverse) October 20, 2020
El Gran Gordo – Yes, I know, having Otis break the one-week old draft rule is worrisome, but I’ll take the entertainment of the storyline over the common sense for now. Having Otis, as El Gran Gordo, don a luchador mask to be Tucker’s tag team partner against The Miz & John Morrison is throwback to the days of the Machines (Andre, Roddy, Hulk, etc.), The Big Yellow Dog (JYD) and The Midnight Rider (Dusty Rhodes), not to mention Tommy Rich in mask in Atlanta.
Fun – Monday Night RAW has missed some of its fun, comedic elements of late and having El Gran Gordo and The New Day around will help fix that. The New Day can bring levity to any segment and it’s a nice breather in a three-hour long show. Plus, they can still bring it in the ring as the tag team champs. Good to see Big E in the ThunderDome crowd! Again, why can Otis, The Riott Squad and others appear on RAW but Big E can’t? Hmmm…..
Go home segment – Randy Orton’s final segment promo inside of the Hell in a Cell was gripping. As he went through of his HIAC matches with the likes of John Cena, The Undertaker, Daniel Bryan and others, it reminds us how good Orton truly is. One more notch on his belt I think is coming this Sunday to capture his 14th WWE title with a win over current WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Great way to end it too with McIntyre cutting his way into the cell and yelling “your ass is mine” to Orton as the final shot of the night. It sets up a MUST-SEE match Sunday night.
Why?
Lana – We told you it was a complete waste last week to have Lana win the Battle Royale to face Asuka and the match proved it. It was a complete waste of time, only there to set up Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler and a fatal-four-way tag match. Asuka deserves better than this. It’s like having a non-title match on WWE Challenge back in the day.
Elias – Another concert and another guitar shot. At what point do we get more from Elias than just the singer who gets interrupted gimmick. The ironic thing is that the Jeff Hardy vs. Elias feud could be pretty decent.
Big things to come?
To say this was a HUGE win for @AJStylesOrg would be an understatement. #WWERaw pic.twitter.com/q9FyGwHRc0
— WWE (@WWE) October 20, 2020
AJ gets a bodyguard – Well, it looks like the end of RAW Underground is here (thank God!) as the official bouncer of RU, Omogbehin, is now AJ Styles new bodyguard. It’s more of the old school coming back in 2020 and I like it! It’s so striking the size difference between Styles and Omogbehin. Unfortunately, I don’t think Omogbehin is going to be that good in a ring to ultimately turn on AJ and face him in a match. But then again, one never knows in the WWE world of booking. Very good rematch by the way between Styles and Matt Riddle, who continues to shine win or lose.
Battle of the low blows – Who’s the good guy? Who’s the bad guy? I can’t tell at this point between Braun Strowman and Keith Lee. Both of been tweeners, complete with a couple of low blow spots (look familiar Roman Reigns?). Not quite sure where this one is going or if it’s going to help either guy and just go the way of 50-50 matches for a few weeks. Speaking of 50-50, it was no shock to see Strowman get the win after being submitted, or is it passed out, by Roman Reigns last week on SmackDown.

KUSHIDA – It keeps getting better and better for KUSHIDA. I hope they push it all the way to him vs. Finn Balor for the NXT Championship! Sure, he got a little help from The Velveteen Dream’s armed cast, but a win is a win, especially over Tommaso Ciampa!

Halloween Havoc build – Spin the wheel and feel the pain! Brilliant from your host Shotzi Blackheart. Plus, now we get a Haunted House of Terror match between Dexter Lumis and Cameron Grimes. Should be a tasty treat come Wednesday night!
Six-man tag – It’s no surprise that they killed it again, but Legado Del Fantasma simply brought it against Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Jake Atlas and Ashantee “Thee” Adonis. The cruiserweight division is no afterthought with Santos Escobar and his boys at the top. Quality each and every week!
Beat-down to a build-up:

The Undisputed Era/Pat McAfee – Nice twist to the tag team title match between Breezango and TUE. First, Bobby Fish gets beat down. Then, Roderick Strong gets beat up. So, in goes Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch to sub for them. And the mystery man, Pat McAfee gets revenge on Adam Cole & TUE by getting his boys, Lorcan & Burch the tag team gold. Brilliantly done. Never saw it coming! Now while I liked Breezango as entertaining champs, this keeps them in a mix for the titles with a bigger feud and higher profile storyline. It works on every angle.
Friends and foes:
Kacy vs. Xia – When Xia Li needed a match, her one-time friend Kacy Catanzaro stepped up for the fight and to Li’s surprise, beat her. Then, as Li attacked after match, Raquel Gonzalez tore in Li, Catanzaro and Kayden Carter to give her a boost heading into next week’s Halloween Havoc match with Rhea Ripley. A good use of all four, plus Kacy gets a surprise victory.
Bye-bye:

Sasha seals the deal – So, Bayley wouldn’t sign the contract for Hell In A Cell? No worries. Sasha Banks just beat her senseless into submitting to it. Well done as the infamous chair takes center stage once again! I can only imagine the carnage that will come Sunday night inside the Hell In A Cell!

— WWE (@WWE) October 24, 2020
Double Trouble – Jey Uso brings out Jimmy Uso to try and dupe Roman Reigns. Jey’s physicality gave us a little belief that he could have a chance in the family feud come Sunday. As for the consequences for the I Quit Match inside Hell In A Cell that Roman promised? Reigns puts the family on the line if things don’t fall into line from Uso on Sunday night.

Bianca Belair – She’s a superstar folks! Nice start to her SmackDown career with a victory over Zelina Vega.
Didn’t we see that before?
Shorty G is no longer. It's GABLE now, CHAD GABLE. #SmackDown @WWEGable @ScrapDaddyAP pic.twitter.com/qtg9upfXKs
— WWE (@WWE) October 24, 2020
Shorty G – So, Shorty G quits..well, at least he quits his name. He’s back to being Chad Gable again, which is a good thing. Gone is the gimmick that needed to go a long time ago. But, hey, didn’t we just the quit angle on NXT two nights earlier? Seems a little forced but a nice way to put forth another Lars Sullivan squash match to build him up.
Wild and fun:
8-man tag – Anytime you can get the amount of in-ring talent that the opening match gave you – Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens & The Street Profits, Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode, Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura – it’s going to be good. I like the idea of Owens and Bryan joining forces too to go after the tag titles. Plus, having The Street Profits get the pin makes perfect sense.
ORDER IN THE COURT.
Tumblr media
Per Judge @JCLayfield, @otiswwe will battle @mikethemiz this Sunday at #HIAC! The winner will 𝒈𝒆𝒕 and 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑 the #MITB contract! #SmackDown @tuckerwwe @TheRealMorrison pic.twitter.com/pb5n9ieoFQ
— WWE (@WWE) October 24, 2020
Court TV – While not as wild as the tag team match to start the night, Otis vs. The Miz inside a courtroom with JBL as Judge and Ron Simmons as bailiff in an APA reunion was some comedic relief for the night. Not only did we get a pay-off from The Miz to win the trial, but we get a pay-off in a match for this Sunday as Otis has to put his Money In The Bank contract on the line against The Miz. But, again with the draft breaking rules with Asuka showing up on SmackDown as a witness. She’s funny, but can’t we just abide by the rules at any point?
Same ol’ story:
Seth vs. Murphy – Different night. Same storyline. Same result. Count me as one who is no longer interested in Murphy vs. Rollins with the Mysterio family as the sidebar. It’s time for Rollins to turn Aalyah or move on.
Parting Shots:
Having Talking Smack follow SmackDown was a nice idea. Probably would’ve been a better idea for WWE Backstage to be in the timeslot back when it started though. If it did, it might still be around. The Paul Heyman segment/shoot about what makes a true Heyman guy was fantastic. So much realism and truth there. No scripts needed and a breath of fresh air. Again, something we thought WWE Backstage was going to more of, but wasn’t.
Hell In A Cell PPV – Updated Card
WWE Championship Hell In A Cell Match: Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton
Universal Championship Hell In A Cell I Quit Match: Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso
SmackDown Women’s Championship Hell In A Cell Match: Bayley vs. Sasha Banks

Predictions: Randy Orton takes his 14th WWE title. Roman Reigns remains at the head of the table. Sasha Banks gets her revenge in the match of the night. Otis keeps his MITB contract. Elias takes part 1 vs. Jeff Hardy.
Coming up this week:
RAW: Hell In A Cell fallout

My Favorite Top 10 Movie Comedy Scenes
Presently this is certainly an extreme one. I truly don't have the foggiest idea why I am endeavoring this at everything except I think it should be finished. There have been such a large number of incredibly, entertaining scenes and I figure I would be neglectful in the event that I in any event didn't attempt to make reference to the ones that made me snicker the hardest during my lifetime. I might likewise want to include that since I may cherish a scene in a film, doesn't block that I would place the film itself in my Top 10 rundown ever. Thus, I will simply make reference to a portion of the numerous scenes that I have adored and afterward attempt to place them in my request for inclination. Wish me karma!!  https://putlocker-online.com/genres The Marx Brothers have had such a large number of scenes that have made me laugh out loud throughout the years and still till this day. The popular stateroom scene from Monkey Business which occurred on a boat was a visual joy. They were stowaways on the boat so they couldn't give the individuals access charge realize they were there. They had repairmen, house keepers, food administration and every other person you could consider in the room simultaneously. Before the finish of the scene there must be in any event at least 20 individuals all crushed into that small room and it was one of the exemplary scenes in any satire film. At that point you had the agreement scene in A Night At The Opera that was splendidly composed and conveyed by Groucho and Chico. "You can't trick me, there ain't no mental soundness condition". A Day At The Races had a couple of my preferred Marx Brothers scenes in it. The race itself toward the end, the assessment of Margaret Dumont's character by Doctor Hackenbush and the young men and the telephone scene with Groucho driving Mr. Whitmore insane by utilizing confusion.
Tumblr media
In the film Bruce Almighty there is a scene in which Jim Carrey is making Steve Carell, who landed the position as anchorman that he needed, botch during the news. He utilizes his freshly discovered forces to make him jibber jabber for what appeared to be around 5 minutes. At the point when I saw that scene in the motion pictures I giggled so hard that I actually dropped out of my seat. I was biting the dust.
In the film It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World there were a perpetual measure of dynamite scenes however the one that murdered me the most was the scene where Jonathan Winters annihilates the service station. The explanation being, the two chaperons had tied him up with conduit tape on the grounds that Phil Silvers had persuaded them that he was insane and it would be for their own security. The reality of the situation was he needed Winter's character off the beaten path while he went for the cash that everybody was scanning for in the film. Probably the best satire ever. On the off chance that you haven't seen it, help yourself out and get it or lease it and afterward watch it. You will dismiss your moron head. I realize that I did and still do each time I see it. Besides the cast of parody stars in the film were a rundown of's who in the satire business. On the off chance that you weren't in the film back, at that point, at that point you weren't viewed as applicable in the satire world.
My preferred scene in the film There's Something About Mary was the scene with the pooch and Matt Dillon. He unintentionally slaughtered the canine and attempts to breath life into him back by utilizing the light electric harmony and kicking off him. That was crazy and I snickered until I hurt at that one. The film was amusing and had many, numerous interesting scenes. I despite everything flinch each time I watch the scene where Ben stalls out in his zipper...OUCH!! An extraordinary Ben Stiller vehicle that I thought was additionally novel.
The supper scene in the revamp of The Nutty Professor with Eddie Murphy was absurd. He played 4 unique characters in that scene and the outcome was brilliant. A really extraordinary acting accomplishment and incredible cosmetics for the characters. On the off chance that you didn't know ahead of time that they were all Eddie, you could never have suspected it. "Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!"
In Monty Python's, The Holy Grail, the blade battle scene with the Black Knight and Sir Arthur at the extension (None Shall Pass) was certainly amusing. He gradually removes the appendages individually of the Black Knight yet it doesn't appear to bother him by any means. Rather he challenges him considerably more and continues egging Sir Arthur on. "It's only a substance wound. Return here and I'll chomp your kneecap off".
The nation club party scene in Caddyshack was amusing, particularly in the event that you were a Rodney Dangerfield fan. He had such huge numbers of interesting jokes and wouldn't quit provoking Ted Knight's character. That film gave Rodney an entire second vocation and another age of fans. "Hello, who stepped on a duck?"
In Jerry Lewis' film The Big Mouth, there is a scene where Charlie Callas is in a telephone stall chatting with his chief and he sees Jerry Lewis' character, whom he however he executed, run by him and he snaps during the call. His outward appearances were so rubbery and the sounds impacts that came out of his mouth were so exceptionally interesting. Nobody else could ever have the option to do that without any difficulty.
Dwindle Sellers was a splendid comedic on-screen character and I just adored his Inspector Clouseau character as the blundering analyst that consistently appeared to arrive on his feet and settle the case. The scene in Return Of the Pink Panther where he camouflages himself as a dental specialist with the goal that he can keep an eye on Inspector Dreyfus at the château is insane. He manages chuckling gas to Herbert Lom's character and the two of them get into a snickering fit as Clouseau attempts to pull his awful tooth. As a watcher, it is extremely infectious to watch without roaring with laughter yourself. Also his mask is softening during the scene. Amusing, clever, entertaining.
My preferred parody film ever was Mel Brook's The Producers and the scene I adored the most in it was during the Broadway play of 'Springtime for Hitler'. Kenneth Mars' character of the writer German fighter, Franz, gets truly furious that everybody is chuckling at a play he composed as a tribute for Hitler. He goes up in front of an audience and begins to advise everybody to quit chuckling. As he begins you hear somebody thump him on the head from behind the drapery and you hear a boisterous crash since he was all the while wearing his protective cap. That doesn't stop him. He continues with his announcement. "What is this infant. The Fuhrer never said child. The Fuhrer was benevolent. The Fuhrer was quite delicate. Ordinarily the Fuhrer would state to me, Franz...OW!" he crumples and they drag him away from under the window ornament. The deferred response of being hit on the head and him saying Ow is amusing as damnation. I love that film so a lot and Mr. Creeks won an Oscar for Best Screenplay for that one.
Woody Allen has had such a large number of magnum opus comedies during his distinguished profession however one of my preferred scenes was in perhaps the most punctual undertaking, Sleeper. His character had been solidified cryogenically for a long time and is defrosted soon yet he is still not adjusted to the new condition yet is still sort of out of it, in a manner of speaking. He is in a wheelchair and is moving around the lab with an interesting face on that is inestimable to watch and turning over individuals' feet and striking into things. Likewise the scene in a similar film where he masks himself as a robot and at a gathering the individuals are feeling this sphere, which gets you high, and he is giving it around for them and getting high himself. That is tremendous.
A to some degree ongoing film, Borat, had a scene that I giggled at hard when I saw it. The scene when he is battling and wrestling, while bare, with this man, and they end up in the gathering focus of the lodging where a show is being held. Gracious my God, that was so crazy to see. Watching the individuals at the show's countenances as the battle followed was so extraordinary. Exceptionally interesting film and altogether different than some other parody before it. Another one of a kind satire film.
Quality Wilder and Richard Pryor were so extraordinary together and had incredible science. In the film Stir Crazy, all the scenes in the jail were amusing. The superintendent is attempting to break them and places them in dreadful circumstances to attempt to convince Wilder to ride for him at the rodeo rivalry between his jail and his companion's jail. At the point when he places them in a little cell with a mammoth mass killer, I giggled until I cried viewing their response to their pickle.
In Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, the scene in the manor where Dracula, Frankenstein and The Wolfman are for the most part pursuing them from space to room was one of my preferred interesting scenes when I was a child. To watch the beasts that used to startle all of us as children, act in a satire with the clever parody group, was so extraordinary and exciting simultaneously. I could just envision the impact they more likely than not had making that film.
I can't generally compose the entirety of my good notices here in light of the fact that it would be excessively hard without broadly expounding on every one so I will simply give you my Top rundown as well as can be expected and you can consider yours.
In this way, after much pondering here is all the better I could do:
My Favorite Top 10 Comedy Movie Scenes
1. The corner store scene from It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
2. The pooch restoring scene from that point's Something About Mary
3. The jabbering communicate scene from Bruce Almighty
4. The telephone stall scene from The Big Mouth
5. The giggling gas scene from Return Of The Pink Panther
6. The wrestling scene from Borat
7. The assessment scene from A Day At The Races
8. The play scene from The Producers
9. The dark knight scene from The Holy Grail
10. The supper scene from The Nutty Professor
I trust one of your top picks was on my rundown. Trust me, that was extremely difficult to do in light of the fact that there have been such a large number of interesting scenes and I am certain that I am overlooking a great deal of them yet I attempted to put the ones up that made me chuckle the hardest throughout the years. Good karma attempting to limit your top picks down to a Top 10 and as usual, a debt of gratitude is in order for perusing from, THE COMEDY TORNADO!!

Kevin Cage of @spotlightsaga reviews... Orange is the New Black (S05E13) Storm-y Weather Airdate: June 9, 2017 @oitnb Ratings: @netflix original Score: 8/10 **********SPOILERS BELOW********** What now? Watching an OITNB finale is a bit like the next day after a great roll... You had a great time, and emotionally you're drained, there's a bit of magic still floating around in the air, you wonder will happen next... But in a way, you're kind of sad that it's all over. And of course, you're too stunned to do much of anything except furrow your brow like James Franco attempting to show any simple range of emotion beyond 'stoned'. Until next time, right? The best thing about the end of OITNB5 is the fact that we know it's going to come back for a 6th & 7th season, but with the massively radical shakeup we saw happen here in S5... There's never been a time in the series' history that we have been in such a place where we don't even have a slight inkling of an idea as to what is coming next. Over the course of 4 years and 5 seasons, we've seen characters come, go, pass, come back again, disappear into MAX, and some that have more of a final ending. It's safe to say that as tragic as the S5 ending was, as we saw best friends, lovers, and feelings as safe & simple as familiarity being separated and hauled off into different vans, going god knows where, at least we don't have to deal with another loss like the magnitude we dealt with at the end of S4. It took hours of sobbing and patting my back just to come back to reality and stop crying after that one. We have praised S5 for featuring new characters, as well old characters in a different way... As well as experimentation with new types of storytelling and even head-first dives into different genres just to give the series a fresh beat. It's hard to believe that all this happened in just a 3-Day timespan... Technically we've spent years with some of these women, but never has the series reached such heights in tension as it did here. One again, I feel it pertinent to mention that I'm just glad they decided to not put me in a situation where I could possibly cry like a baby for hours on end. I always knew that this riot would never end well for any of the women, and by E12 when everyone was having their personal revelations and epiphanies as to where they stood in life and with each other, I immediately sensed that they'd all be ripped apart from one another. No way things could be this harmonious with such an ugly consequences hanging above like dark pulpy rain clouds just waiting to burst over all of their heads. I'm not going to lie, there was a part of me that thought someone was going to die (as there usually is a major death in every season), but I was relieved when we were delivered the death of Piscatella instead of a beloved inmate. With Piscatella dead and Angie (Julie Lake) & Leanne (Emma Myles) redeeming their 'bad girl' ways... A majority of which was spent reeking havoc throughout Litchfield, torturing Pensatucky (Taryn Manning), putting on 'Litchfield's Got Talent', and raping CO Stratman (Evan Hall), all by wiping everyone's slate clean in a fire burning everyone's records... It looks like maybe Maria's (Jessica Pimentel) attempt at stealing all the hard work Gloria (Selenis Leyva) put in to moving the guards from 'Spanish Harlem' to 'Poo', by way of cutting a hole in the fence, actually payed off. The additional time Piscatella recommended will most likely never be added on to her sentence and she actually got to hold her baby. As mad as I was at Ruiz in that moment, I couldn't help but shed a tear or two. She made a snap decision, did what she had to do, and actually achieved something from it... Whether this will be only for a short term prize or even as something as big as a sentence reduction, we'll have to wait and see... But even though MCC isn't exactly the keepers of words or showers of good faith, Nita (Gita Reddy) did show that she was appreciate of Maria's sacrifice. That little hint of empathy that Nita let us all see had to count for something, at least I hope for Maria's sake that it does. Just as Pensatucky was once a fearless leader of many and fell to the 'Litchfield Pariah', Maria's decisions will land her in a similar path. I have absolutely zero doubts about that. And now... 'The 10 Count' and other wild inconsistencies of the 5th season of OITNB... Because as great as OITNB can be, it's never without its faults. There were powerul performances throughout this season... Uzo Adbua, Danielle Brooks, Selenis Leyva, Adrienne C Moore, Beth Dover, Miriam Morales, Rosal Colon, Dale Soules, Vicky Jeudy, Julie Lake & Emmy Myles... And some breakout performances by Francesca Curran, Daniella De Jesus, Asia Kate Dillon, and Kelly Karbacz... While Kimiko Glenn, Laura Gomez, Amanda Stephen, Kate Mulgrew, Natasha Lyonne, Lea DeLaria, Diane Guerrero and Jackie Cruz felt wildly under utilized and other extremely talented women were either lost in the shuffle or given small or subplots that won't see greatness born from them until further into the series. Alas, at least the seeds were planted. Even the incredibly talented Taryn Manning went massively underused, but it feels like that they are setting her up for a proper story arc in S6, so at least she'll have her moment soon. Ending her arc in S5 in the Guard House with Coates, snuggled up with her rapist under a blanket, makes for endless possibilities to spiral a psychologist's wet dream of a character study. Obviously the cast of OITNB is massive and not everyone can have large chunks of time devoted to complete character arcs that tie in heavily to the main narrative, but then again women like Uzo Aduba & Beth Dover were still able to take the time and scenes they were given and steal the spotlight, making the most of a short amount of time. It's up to these women, as character actresses, to really take it all the way... But it's also up the writers to give them something worthwhile to chew on and hang onto. And while there is plenty to discuss at the end of S5, not all of it is good. Like many other writers, bloggers, reviewers, and fans... We did the math and we are a bit confused on the '10 count' of missing ladies the men who violently and haphazardly stormed the women's prison turned temporary castle shouted out when attempting to tell Caputo and MCC the progress of the raid. Even with Linda being accounted for, we're not sure where that number came from... Just a small example of short-sighted missteps we occasionally see from an otherwise talented writing team. Also, as a Drug & Harm Reduction activist, I'm not sure why Cindy giving Suzanne a few Lithium pills (which I was under the impression she was prescribed anyway) would ever result in a coma like state needing as something as extreme as an EpiPen. It was just a short stick that wasn't thought through that was inserted into the finale for some additional drama and to get Taystee, Cindy and Suzanne in Frieda's abandoned pool turned bunker. It was sloppy and we at Spotlight Saga condemn any storylines that promote ignorance or false information about chemicals and drugs. Simply put, OITNB is better than that. However, it's hard to deny how beautiful that end result was... Seeing these women who once were so stuck in a pattern of self-segregation stand together, holding each other's hands with grace and dignity brings tears to my eyes as I merely picture the scene writing about it. That picture was worth far more than a thousand words, carried a beautiful message, but could have been achieved without compromising any artistic or factual integrity. I don't aim to cheapen the moment, it was beautiful, and I anxiously await the outcome with a heavy heart. Unfortunately I must steer the conversation back to inconsistencies because I truly believe that OITNB is also better than to not have MCC know that Linda from Purchasing was there at the time of the riots or had at least gone missing around the starting time of these riots. This is the type of woman who'd show up for work, even on the weekends. Maybe this was to give characters and fans satisfaction at the end when they all claimed to work for MCC to make Linda look crazy... But honestly, even though I understand their feelings of betrayal, you would think at least Boo would buy what she was selling. I did. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like Linda grew copious amounts during the short time that S5 took place and actually meant what she said when she promised she would do her part to incite change amongst the prison system. If they treated her right at the end, they could have had a great ally. Now... I'm thinking not so much. If I was Linda, I wouldn't be too pleased with any of those women. I feel like another potential beautiful moment, future or otherwise, was compromised for comedy and unnecessary comeuppance. If it's any consolation, Beth Dover, you were absolutely amazing this season and we have our eye on you and Danielle Brooks for any end of the year awards, such as one we've already locked in favor of Uzo Aduba's incredibly nuance performance throughout the entirety of S5. Regardless of any short sighted plot stick, surely the events of S5 will bring about change to more than just where inmates are shipped after the riot. While OITNB is fictional, New York law states that 'Riot in the First Degree' is a Class E Felony, which doesn't carry much weight, but will still ensure that most of these women, especially those that were public symbols during the riot, will have a few years tacked on to their sentence. I'm actually hoping the plan is to clear the prison, clean it, and then ship most of the important women and characters back to Litchfield to carry on their storylines in a similar fashion under new circumstances. Whatever happens, things are going to be different... But as the series ended on the women left inside Litchfield in the pool as the rest of the prison had been swept and cleared, fading to orange, leaving their fates hanging in the air... I think the main thing we are left hoping for is that none of our favorite women that remain in that lineup are hurt or killed and taken away from us forever. Overall, S5 was a mostly successful season of OITNB... But baby, this doesn't have anything on S4 and the epic rise and fall of one of the greatest characters of Litchfield Women's Prison... The woman whose demise started this whole thing... Poussey Washington. We miss you, Samira Wiley. You were so incredible, so inspirational, your unjust and untimely exit caused a series to be turned upside down on its head. Until S6, guys. You know we'll be there!

The Memphis Grizzlies Are the NBA's Most Intriguing Team
Even with so many new faces in different places across the NBA, identifying a general ceiling and floor for every team in the league isn't that difficult. And then there are the Memphis Grizzlies. At once pitiable and respected, no organization's fortune is harder to pin down heading into the 2018-19 season.
Maybe, on their way to winning 50 games, the Grizzlies will churn through the regular season as a competent pain in the ass that turns FedEx Forum into a fog bank opponents can't help but stumble through. Or maybe they're a rickshaw racing Cadillacs; a sprained ankle away from hollowing out their roster, acknowledging reality, and trading the remnants of cornerstone-talent for an ostensibly brighter tomorrow.
Loser of more games than every team except the Phoenix Suns last season—including one against the Charlotte Hornets by 61 freaking points—Memphis launched mixed signals over the summer. The team elevated a lukewarm J.B. Bickerstaff to head coach, drafted a presumably invigorating Jaren Jackson Jr., traded for Garrett Temple, pried Kyle Anderson from the San Antonio Spurs, and (hope they) packed depth at a brittle point guard position by adding Shelvin Mack. Individually, aside from Jackson, the moves are colorless. Collectively, they're a low-risk cue to their fan base and the rest of the league that last year's pitiful record was unacceptable. (It's not clear if they have more talent now than in August 2017, but, at the very least, they're decidedly more mature.)
A year ago, the Grizzlies tallied a third of their season win total (a 7-4 start!) before Nov. 8. They beat the Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, and Houston Rockets, twice. Not bad! Their inevitable disintegration can either be excused by Mike Conley's season-ending surgery—and the general malaise/suddenly enthusiastic shift toward the lottery that followed—or seen as the harsh dawn of a new day. Grit n' Grind is deceased, Marc Gasol is 33, Conley turns 31 in October, and Memphis was outscored by 6.2 points per 100 possessions when those two shared the floor. (Five years ago that number was +11.2, and since then it’s never dropped below +1.0.)
Those two are headed in the wrong direction, but probably still exist in a realm where institutional familiarity—competing against rosters that just met—can triumph over their own deteriorating bodies for at least a couple more years. If not, they're finished as a formidable duo, and Memphis will need to pivot into a different era faster than it presumably wants to. How the Grizzlies fare when Conley and Gasol share the floor will be a bellwether for the entire franchise; in a loaded western conference that only has eight spots for at least ten other teams that expect to make the playoffs (the Warriors, Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Utah Jazz, and Minnesota Timberwolves), the fact that their sturdiest quality has turned into an unknown variable makes it possible to argue for and against Memphis's inclusion in that conversation.
Tumblr media
The new rook, Jaren Jackson Jr. Photo by Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports
My guess is they'll be quietly brilliant moving/taking care of the ball and pride themselves on dominating overlooked fundamentals (like, say, rebounding). But they'll also lack the methodical flow and individual prowess that's required to score efficiently. More weapons are needed to overcome this roster's unconvincing athleticism. JaMychal Green is not 32-year-old Zach Randolph, Dillon Brooks does not possess the twitchy intangibles that made Tony Allen a bobcat, and Jackson Jr. is a total and complete mystery so far as who he can and can't play with, or how his growing body will respond to NBA competition.
But what if Anderson improves his individual skill set and slides in as the intelligent, reliable wing Memphis didn't have last season (someone who can set up Gasol and Conley instead of the other way around), while Chandler Parsons appears in 75 games as a dramatically overpaid Sixth Man candidate? What if Jackson Jr.—who turns 19 in September—starts at the four and can moonlight as a dependable backup five (aka avoid foul trouble)? If these elements shift in their favor, the Grizzlies can momentarily reignite the embers of resilience that carried them through the earlier parts of this decade.
Either way, it's going to be so damn interesting to see what everything looks like. How they play—be it fast, modern, big, etc.—what style they'll adopt or philosophies they'll deploy. How will they stand out, aesthetically?
Beyond that, it's hard to even know what qualifies as a best-case scenario for Memphis over these next six months. Its first-round pick belongs to the Boston Celtics if it lands outside the top eight. (If not, it's top-six protected in 2020 and then unprotected in 2021). For a team that wants to rebuild on the fly and bridge this year to whenever Jackson is mature enough to serve as the face of their franchise, is a playoff appearance worth the loss of a valuable draft pick? Financially, the Grizzlies are lean enough, with Parsons and Gasol both set to expire after next season (Gasol has a $25.6 million player option) while Conley's massive deal comes off the books one year later. But Memphis is unwise to count on free agency as a means to sustain the plucky zeal it used to cultivate; the organization is staring at a long-term conundrum.
In the meantime, before their front office is able to mold the next life cycle into whatever it may be, basketball in Memphis will be as unpredictable, for better or worse, as it gets. Nothing should surprise you about this team, except everything it does.

The winners and losers of the 2020 NBA Trade Deadline
Tumblr media
Who was the biggest winner and biggest loser of the trade deadline?
From Andre Iguodala to KAT to Andre Drummond, these are the winners and losers of the NBA trade deadline.
We didn’t expect the 2020 NBA trade deadline to feature much activity. We were wrong. The final 72 hours before trade season ended instead featured the usual flurry of activity we’ve come to expect from this league. Contenders leveled up, several young stars changed addresses just when it seemed like they would stay put, and deals flew out from left field that we’re still trying to process.
That said, this trade deadline paled in comparison to the seismic shifts we saw this summer in free agency. The rush of deals at the buzzer made this day seem more significant to the title race than it actually is. There were no superstar trades, nor was there a significant veteran joining as the final piece of a title contender, a la Rasheed Wallace to Detroit in 2004 or Marc Gasol to Toronto last season. The D’Angelo Russell-Andrew Wiggins trade between Golden State and Minnesota is interesting, but both teams are in the lottery. Otherwise, the biggest names that moved are role players that could provide a small, though useful boost to their new teams.
Let’s assess the damage.
WINNERS
Andre Iguodala
Iguodala will make an incredible agent if he chooses that path once his playing days are over. When he was last a free agent, he feigned interest from the Rockets and others to procure a three-year, $45 million deal from the money-conscious Warriors despite his advancing age. When the Warriors traded him to the Grizzlies last summer, Iguodala brokered an arrangement with Memphis that allowed him to chill on the sidelines and still get paid. Now, he’s back in the title race as a member of the Miami Heat, and got a two-year, $30 million contract extension to boot.
Must be nice to get paid not to work for several months, then get a multi-million cash advance from your new team before you even step on the court.
Bruh you’re a legend @andre . My guy sat half the season. Spent time with his family. Promoted his book. Sharpened up his post retirement plans and cashed out ✊ respect bruh.
— CJ McCollum (@CJMcCollum) February 6, 2020
Miami Heat
They didn’t get Danilo Gallinari, which would have cemented them a serious threat to win the East. But Pat Riley still did well to improve his team’s depth by swapping out three non-rotation players for Iguodala, Jae Crowder, and Solomon Hill. All three should shore up a defense that’s been mediocre this year despite the individual success of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Imagine Butler and Iguodala at the top of Erik Spoelstra’s 2-3 zone. Good luck scoring on that.
Plus, Riley maneuvered the Heat into position to have cap space this summer without jeopardizing any room in 2021, which projects as a much stronger free-agent class.
Karl-Anthony Towns
It’s. Happening.
2/3 pic.twitter.com/QU43MMNkwj
— SLAM (@SLAMonline) February 6, 2020
Well, not the Devin Booker part, at least not yet. Still, Towns gets to play with his best friend that also happens to be a quality point guard to pass him the ball. That should cheer him up after losing 13 games in a row.
Andrew Wiggins
Wiggins’ resurgence lasted all of a couple weeks this year before he reverted back to his bad habits. It’s possible he’ll be a tease the rest of his career. But the Steph/Klay/Draymond Warriors offer as good a landing spot as any to channel him into a defined role that gets the most out of his strengths. Harrison Barnes did quite well for himself playing off those three. Now, it’s Wiggins’ turn.
Creative Arts Agency
For years, the prominent sports and entertainment agency was the shadow ruler of the Knicks. As Ricky O’Donnell explains:
CAA represented Carmelo Anthony, who the Knicks traded for ahead of free agency and later re-signed to a max extension. CAA represented J.R. Smith, who became Sixth Man of the Year with the Knicks. CAA also represented his brother Chris Smith, who worked his way onto the Knicks despite lacking the qualifications to hold down an NBA roster spot. There were rumors that former Knicks coach Mike Woodson changed agencies to CAA in 2012 to keep his job. Former assistant general manager (and currently Knicks G League GM) Allan Houston and player personnel director Mark Warkentien were also represented by CAA.
In a 2014 ESPN story, one Knicks player told reporter Chris Broussard the franchise was playing favorites to CAA clients. ”You see how guys from CAA are treated differently,” the player said. “How they get away with saying certain things to coaches. How coaches talk to them differently than they talk to the other guys. It’s a problem.”
Their influence waned once the Knicks hired Phil Jackson, who vowed to remove their tentacles from the operation. But half a decade later, they’re baaaaaaack, and now in an official capacity. Congratulations to Leon Rose and William Wesley for taking over Knicks front office power that opened up when owner James Dolan fired Steve Mills two days before the trade deadline.
Toronto Raptors
They didn’t make a trade, but none of their other East rivals did either, save for the Heat. More importantly, the Knicks’ decision to return to the CAA well quenched the increasing risk that team president Masai Ujiri would leave Canada to save basketball in Manhattan.
LA Clippers
They beat out their crosstown rivals for Marcus Morris, a hard-nosed knockdown three-point shooter that will slide into their starting and closing lineups. He won’t help the Clippers’ shaky rim protection and isn’t a great passer, but his shooting ability should open the floor for a Clippers offense that can occasionally stagnate. All it cost was a first-round pick the Clippers didn’t need, a couple fringe prospects they weren’t playing, and a worse combo forward in Maurice Harkless that wasn’t fitting in.
Houston Rockets
Here’s more on why the Rockets’ all-in move on small-ball was smart. Would’ve been nice if they got another big man, though.
Clint Capela
Capela is a better player than he’s shown over the last couple years. Houston’s shift to more isolation plays instead of pick-and-roll took him out of his comfort zone, and swapping Chris Paul for Russell Westbrook shrunk the floor on the dwindling roll opportunities he did get. Now, he gets to play on a Hawks team that with a young pick-and-roll maestro in Trae Young that will spoonfeed him a half-dozen lob opportunities a game.
Kyle Kuzma
The Lakers refused to include Kuzma in a potential deal for Morris, though it’s unclear how they would’ve made the money work in such a deal anyway. They also didn’t deal Kuzma for Derrick Rose, Robert Covington, or any number of win-now veterans that could have fit more reliably with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. That’s a big bet on Kuzma rising to the challenge in his first deep playoff run.
(I also think it was the right call, especially if the Lakers also win the Darren Collison buyout sweepstakes).
MODEST WINNERS
Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies should be praised for extracting some value out of a proud veteran that never suited up for them. They also deserve more credit than they’ve been given for locking up starting shooting guard and resident shit-talker Dillon Brooks on a reasonable three-year, $35 million extension instead of letting him test a barren restricted free agency market this summer.
But the specific trade they ended up making with Miami carries downside risk that may not have been necessary. I’ve been a Winslow fan for a long time, but he’s missed nearly half of all possible regular-season games since his rookie season and has only played in 11 games this year due to back trouble. He’s promising when healthy, but hasn’t been able to stay on the court. Excluding Iguodala, the price for taking a chance on Winslow was two useful rotation players this year (Jae Crowder, Solomon Hill) and $29 million in salary next year for two players (James Johnson and Dion Waiters) that fell out of favor in Miami. That’s a hefty cost, especially considering Memphis took itself out of having cap space with this move and the Brooks extension. Memphis is not a free-agent destination, but cap space has other uses. Having it allowed them to take on Iguodala last summer for an additional draft pick, for example.
Better hope Winslow stays healthy.
Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers didn’t make any slam-dunk moves, but getting Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III shores up a shaky bench at a minimal cost. Burks could be an especially nice fit as a second ball-handler when Ben Simmons plays without Joel Embiid.
:shruggie:
Golden State Warriors
Despite insisting otherwise, the Warriors did ultimately sign D’Angelo Russell to be a trade asset. How did they maximize that asset? In essence, the Warriors traded:
The inevitable loss of Kevin Durant in free agency.
Andre Iguodala
2024 first-round pick, top-4 protected, then essentially unprotected if it doesn’t convey.
Omari Spellman
Jacob Evans
And in return, they received:
Andrew Wiggins
2021 first-round pick from Minnesota, top-3 protected, then unprotected if it doesn’t convey
2021 second-round pick from Minnesota
That’s ... OK I suppose. Obviously, Durant was a goner either way. Russell is better than Wiggins and on a marginally better contract, but I don’t think the difference is stark and Wiggins has less positional overlap with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The 2021 first-rounder from Minnesota could be in the lottery and pairs nicely as a trade asset with Golden State’s own high 2020 pick. At the same time, losing that 2024 pick to clear Iguodala may come back to bite them if they are forced to rebuild down the road.
I probably would’ve held on to Russell until the summer, but there’s still a chance the Warriors come out ahead, especially if they can rehabilitate Wiggins.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves needed to do something to put a smile on Karl-Anthony Towns’ face, and best friend D’Angelo Russell certainly does that in the short term. They also got decent value for Robert Covington in the form of one first-round pick and two useful restricted free agents to be in Malik Beasley and Juancho Hernangomez. Their long-term outlook is better now than it would’ve been if they did nothing.
But this still doesn’t look like a team that can really contend in Towns’ prime. Russell and Towns should be a nice offensive pick-and-roll tandem, but they will get lit up on the other end. Losing Covington weakens an already terrible defense, though Beasley is at least on Towns’ age curve. They really need Jarrett Culver to turn into a building block, and early returns are mixed. Not having their own 2021 pick may hurt more than keeping their 2020 selection if draft experts are right about the weakness of this class. Losing Wiggins may be addition by subtraction, but the Wolves aren’t projected to have much cap space unless they move on from some of their new additions.
At least Minnesota got a point guard. That alone salvages the situation.
LOSERS
New York Knicks fans
To quote Posting and Toasting’s Jonathan Schulman:
Out of the frying pan and into the fire for New York. James Dolan hates learning lessons and is perpetually bent on repeating mistakes. As long as he’s in good company, he seems fine making his money hand over fist and succumbing to the will of more virile men. Eventually the mistakes of the past will echo into the Knicks’ future and Dolan will impose his petty vengeance on another friend. This time it’s Leon Rose.
The Knicks are spinning the decision to hand the keys to Rose, a prominent player agent, as a move that mirrors the success of recent agent/executive crossovers like Bob Myers in Golden State and Rob Pelinka with the Lakers. That’d be easier to believe if a) Dolan and the Knicks didn’t have a checkered history with Rose’s CAA, and b) the alternative of pursuing Masai Ujiri didn’t loom so heavily in the background.
Why is it so hard for Dolan to be patient and use his deep pockets to go get the smartest basketball executive possible?
Everyone involved in the Andre Drummond trade
What a sad ending to Andre Drummond’s seven-and-a-half years in Detroit. The Pistons held onto him for too long in multiple desperate attempts to achieve relevancy, then discovered he had no trade value once they finally realized they had to move on. They ended up accepting a trade package of dead salary and a low second-round pick, all because they feared Drummond would exercise his $27 million player option. That’s a paltry return for a player who was supposed to usher in a new era years ago.
And what’s the upside for Cleveland in making this deal? They “won” the trade today, but it’s hard to see how Drummond becomes a key part of their long-term future. Either he walks for nothing this summer, or he plays his way into a lucrative contract extension that puts him on a different timeline from their young backcourt. Perhaps the Cavaliers can rehabilitate his value and trade him again, but that requires the league forgetting how little they value him now.
As for Drummond ... man. He needed a change of scenery, but now he’s walking into a franchise that’s miles away from contention and has horrible locker-room chemistry. He’s taking it as well as you’d expect.
If there’s one thing I learned about the NBA, there’s no friends or loyalty. I’ve given my heart and soul to the Pistons , and to be have this happen with no heads up makes me realize even more that this is just a business! I love you Detroit...
— Andre Drummond (@AndreDrummond) February 6, 2020
Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets’ involvement in Tuesday’s four-team Houston-centric blockbuster seemed like a setup for something bigger. Shabazz Napier for Jordan McRae isn’t what we had in mind.
I understand the Nuggets were unlikely to keep Malik Beasley and Juancho Hernangomez even if they did have their restricted free agent rights. I understand their rotation was too deep to accommodate everyone. But the return package of a late 2020 first-round pick and two unproven youngsters in Noah Vonleh and Keita Bates-Diop is still underwhelming.
Sacramento Kings
Just gonna leave this here.
The Kings signed Trevor Ariza and Dewayne Dedmon in free agency and traded both of them before the All-Star break.

Collectively, they’re a low-risk cue to their fan base and the rest of the league that last year’s pitiful record was unacceptable. (It’s not clear if they have more talent now than in August 2017, but, at the very least, they’re decidedly more mature.)
A year ago, the Grizzlies tallied a third of their season win total (a 7-4 start!) before Nov. 8. They beat the Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, and Houston Rockets, twice. Not bad! Their inevitable disintegration can either be excused by Mike Conley’s season-ending surgery—and the general malaise/suddenly enthusiastic shift toward the lottery that followed—or seen as the harsh dawn of a new day. Grit n’ Grind is deceased, Marc Gasol is 33, Conley turns 31 in October, and Memphis was outscored by 6.2 points per 100 possessions when those two shared the floor.
If not, they’re finished as a formidable duo, and Memphis will need to pivot into a different era faster than it presumably wants to. How the Grizzlies fare when Conley and Gasol share the floor will be a bellwether for the entire franchise; in a loaded western conference that only has eight spots for at least ten other teams that expect to make the playoffs (the Warriors, Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Utah Jazz, and Minnesota Timberwolves), the fact that their sturdiest quality has turned into an unknown variable makes it possible to argue for and against Memphis’s inclusion in that conversation.

My guess is they’ll be quietly brilliant moving/taking care of the ball and pride themselves on dominating overlooked fundamentals (like, say, rebounding). But they’ll also lack the methodical flow and individual prowess that’s required to score efficiently. More weapons are needed to overcome this roster’s unconvincing athleticism. JaMychal Green is not 32-year-old Zach Randolph, Dillon Brooks does not possess the twitchy intangibles that made Tony Allen a bobcat, and Jackson Jr. is a total and complete mystery so far as who he can and can’t play with, or how his growing body will respond to NBA competition.
But what if Anderson improves his individual skill set and slides in as the intelligent, reliable wing Memphis didn’t have last season (someone who can set up Gasol and Conley instead of the other way around), while Chandler Parsons appears in 75 games as a dramatically overpaid Sixth Man candidate? What if Jackson Jr.—who turns 19 in September—starts at the four and can moonlight as a dependable backup five (aka avoid foul trouble)? If these elements shift in their favor, the Grizzlies can momentarily reignite the embers of resilience that carried them through the earlier parts of this decade.
Either way, it’s going to be so damn interesting to see what everything looks like. How they play—be it fast, modern, big, etc.—what style they’ll adopt or philosophies they’ll deploy. How will they stand out, aesthetically?

Beyond that, it’s hard to even know what qualifies as a best-case scenario for Memphis over these next six months. Its first-round pick belongs to the Boston Celtics if it lands outside the top eight. (If not, it’s top-six protected in 2020 and then unprotected in 2021). For a team that wants to rebuild on the fly and bridge this year to whenever Jackson is mature enough to serve as the face of their franchise, is a playoff appearance worth the loss of a valuable draft pick? Financially, the Grizzlies are lean enough, with Parsons and Gasol both set to expire after next season (Gasol has a $25.6 million player option) while Conley’s massive deal comes off the books one year later.

Fun 4G DUBBED | comedy and funny scenes
Now this can be positively a tricky one. i actually do not even apprehend why i'm making an attempt this in the least however i believe it must be done. There are such a big amount of astonishingly, funny scenes and that i assume i might be derelict if I a minimum of did not attempt to American statention those that created me laugh the toughest throughout my time period. i might additionally prefer to add that simply because i could love a scene in a very moving picture, does not preclude that i might place the moving picture itself in my prime ten list of all time. So, i will be able to simply mention a number of the numerous scenes that I even have preferred then attempt to place them in my order of preference. want American state luck!! The family have had such a big amount of scenes that have cracked American state up over the years and still do until at the present time. The known cabin scene from mischievousness that occurred on a ship was a visible delight. They were stowaways on the ship in order that they could not let the folks to blame apprehend they were there. they'd repairmen, maids, food service and everybody else you'll consider within the area at an equivalent time. By the top of the scene there had to be a minimum of twenty or a lot of folks all squeezed into that little area and it had been one in every of the classic scenes in any comedy moving picture. Then you had the contract scene in a very Night At The Opera that was bright written and delivered by Julius Marx and Chico. "You cannot fool American state, there ain't no saneness clause". each day At The Races had a number of of my favorite family scenes in it. The race itself at the top, the examination of Margaret Dumont's character by Doctor Hackenbush and therefore the boys and therefore the phone scene with Julius Marx driving Mr. Whitmore crazy by victimization misdirection.
In the moving picture Bruce Almighty there's a scene within which Jim Carrey is creating Steve Carell, United Nations agency got the duty as television reporter that he needed, screw up throughout the news. He uses his new found powers to create him babble for what appeared regarding five minutes. after I saw that scene within the movies I laughed thus onerous that I virtually fell out of my seat. i used to be dying. In the moving picture it is a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World there have been associate endless quantity of terrific scenes however the one that killed American state the foremost was the scene within which eating apple Winters destroys the filling station. the explanation being, the 2 attendants had tied him up with adhesive tape as a result of Phil Silvers had convinced them that he was crazy and it'd be for his or her own protection. the reality was he needed Winter's character out of the approach whereas he went for the money that everybody was finding out within the moving picture. one in every of the most effective comedies of all time. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and expire or rent it then watch it. you may laugh your fool leave. i do know that I did and still do whenever I see it. and the forged of comedy stars within the moving picture were an inventory of United Nations agency's who within the comedy business. If you were not within the moving picture in the past, then you were not thought of relevant within the comedy world. My favorite scene within the moving picture there is one thing regarding Jewess was the scene with the dog and Matt Dillon. He accidentally killed the dog and tries to bring him back to life by victimization the lamp electrical chord and jump beginning him. That was hysterical and that i laughed till I hurt at that one. The moving picture was terribly funny and had several, several funny scenes. I still cringe whenever I watch the scene wherever mountain gets his private parts stuck in his zipper...OUCH!! an excellent mountain Stiller vehicle that i assumed was additionally distinctive. The dinner scene within the remake of The Nutty academic with Eddie Irish potato was humorous . He compete four completely different characters therein scene and therefore the result was excellent. a really nice acting accomplishment and fantastic makeup for the characters. If you did not apprehend beforehand that they were all Eddie, you ne'er would have suspected it. "Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!" In Monty Python's, The grail, the arm fight scene with the Black Knight and Sir Arthur at the bridge (None Shall Pass) was positively funny. He slowly cuts off the limbs one by one in every of the Black Knight however it does not appear to unnerve him in the least. Instead he challenges him even a lot of and keeps egging Sir Arthur on. "It's simply a injury. return here and i am going to bite your kneecap off". The guild party scene in Caddyshack was funny, particularly if you were a Rodney Dangerfield fan. He had such a big amount of funny one liners and would not stop taunting Ted Knight's character. That moving picture gave Rodney a full second career and a brand new generation of fans. "Hey, United Nations agency stepped on a duck?" In Kraut Lewis's moving picture the large Mouth, there's a scene within which Charlie Callas is in a very cubicle talking together with his boss and he sees Kraut Lewis' character, whom he tho' he killed, travel by him and he snaps throughout the decision. His facial expressions were thus rubbery and therefore the thusunds effects that came out of his mouth were so unambiguously funny. nobody else would ever be able to try this with such ease. Peter Sellers was an excellent comedic actor and that i merely preferred his Inspector Clouseau character because the butterfingered detective that perpetually appeared to land on his feet and solve the case. The scene reciprocally Of the Pink Panther wherever he disguises himself as a dental practitioner so he will spy on Inspector Alfred Dreyfus at the castle is hysterical. He administers inhalation anesthetic to Herbert Lom's character and that they each get into a happy match as Clouseau tries to drag his dangerous tooth. As a viewer, it's extremely contagious to look at while not happy aloud yourself. and his disguise is melting throughout the scene. Funny, funny, funny. My favorite comedy moving picture of all time was Mel Brook's The Producers and therefore the scene I preferred the foremost in it had been throughout the Broadway play of 'Springtime for Hitler'. Kenneth Mars' character of the writer German soldier, Franz, gets extremely upset that everybody is happy at a play he wrote as a tribute for Nazi. He goes informed stage and starts to inform everybody to prevent happy. As he starts you hear somebody clunk him on the pinnacle from behind the curtain and you hear a loud clang as a result of he was still sporting his helmet. that does not stop him. He carries on together with his proclamation. "What is that this baby. The Fuhrer ne'er aforesaid baby. The Fuhrer was kind. The Fuhrer was nice and delicate. again and again the Fuhrer would inform American state, Franz...OW!" he collapses and that they drag him removed from underneath the curtain. The delayed reaction of being hit on the pinnacle and him locution Ow is funny as hell. i really like that moving picture most and Mr. Brooks won associate laurels for Best book for that one. Woody Allen has had such a big amount of masterpiece comedies throughout his illustrious career however one in every of my favorite scenes was in one in every of his earliest endeavors, Sleeper. His character had been frozen cryogenically for several years and is thawed out someday within the future however he's still not acclimated to the new setting nonetheless and remains quite out of it, thus to talk. he's in a very chair and is rolling round the science lab with a funny face thereon is valuable to look at and rolling over people's feet and banging into things. additionally the scene within the same moving picture wherever he disguises himself as a automaton and at a celebration the folks area unit feeling this orb, that gets you high, and he's handing it around for them and obtaining high himself. that's terrific. A somewhat recent moving picture, Borat, had a scene that I laughed at terribly onerous after I saw it. The scene once he's fighting and wrestling, whereas naked, with this man, and that they find yourself within the conference house of the building wherever a convention is being command. Oh my God, that was thus hysterical to ascertain. observation the folks at the convention's faces because the fight ensued was thus nice. terribly funny moving picture and extremely completely different than the other comedy before it. Another distinctive comedy moving picture. Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor were thus nice along and had nice chemistry. within the moving picture Stir Crazy, all the scenes within the jail were terribly funny. The warder is attempting to interrupt them and puts them in awful things to do and persuade Wilder to ride for him at the rodeo competition between his jail and his friend's jail. once he puts them in a very little cell with an enormous manslayer, I laughed till I cried observation their reaction to their quandary. In Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, the scene within the castle wherever Dracula, Frankenstein and therefore the lycanthrope area unit all chasing them from area to area was one in every of my favorite funny scenes after I was a child. to look at the monsters that accustomed scare U.S. all as youngsters, act in a very comedy with the funny comedy team, was thus nice and thrilling at an equivalent time. I may solely imagine the blast they have to have had creating that moving picture.

Dose: The LeBron & Lonzo Show
Saturday’s seven-game slate provided plenty of highlights, including LeBron James and Lonzo Ball becoming the first pair of teammates to record triple-doubles in more than a decade, James Harden posted one of his own, and Russell Westbrook just missed joining the trip-dub festivities.
After recapping the important storylines from Saturday, we’ll wrap up the Dose by taking a quick look at a handful of players that are facing injury issues for Sunday’s games.
However, before we detail the standout individual performances from Saturday evening, let’s first discuss the fallout from the trade between the Suns and Wizards.
After the proposed three-team deal involving the Grizzlies fell apart Friday night due to a baffling misunderstanding over which Brooks (Dillon or MarShon) was included in the trade, Phoenix and Washington consummated the deal themselves on Saturday morning. Trevor Ariza is headed to the Wizards in exchange for Kelly Oubre and Austin Rivers.
Ariza was averaging just under ten points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.9 treys in 34.0 minutes for Phoenix. I’d expect him to post similar numbers in Washington. In fact, he’ll probably get a slight bump in fantasy value playing alongside John Wall, Brad Beal and Otto Porter. Ariza was shooting just 37.9 percent from the floor over 26 games with the Suns, but that should rise in D.C. He posted some of the most efficient shooting stats of his career when he played for the Wiz back in 2012 through 2014, when he camped out in the corner and knocked down 3-pointers off kick-out passes from Wall. Ariza shot a career-high 40.7 percent from 3-point range in 2013-14. In addition, he's now playing for a team committed to making a run at the postseason and will play him as many minutes as he can handle. He won’t get any of those random DNP-rest days in D.C. Ariza has a chance to post top-75 overall numbers in nine-category leagues over the rest of the way.
Oubre is going to be a restricted free agent in July, so the Suns will undoubtedly want to see what he can bring to the table by putting him in a position to succeed. However, he is joining a Phoenix squad that has an overabundance of small forwards. Oubre will have to compete for playing time with Mikal Bridges, Josh Jackson, and T.J. Warren. Still, he was able to post close to top-125 overall numbers while logging 26 minutes a night in Washington and should be in that same neighborhood with the Suns.
Austin Rivers had no fantasy value coming off the bench for the Wizards. However, the Suns are in desperate need of players capable of running the point. While certainly not a true point guard, Rivers will likely be asked to facilitate the offense on occasion for Phoenix. Last season, Rivers logged over 33 minutes a night for the Clippers and finished the year ranked 140th overall in nine-category leagues. The poor field goal and free throws percentages will hurt, but if you can swallow those negatives, he's probably worth taking a flier on in deeper leagues, as there's a decent chance he returns late-round value. Unfortanuley, this trade (and the return of a healthy Devin Booker) means that Suns rookie De'Anthony Melton will likely see his minutes reduced dramatically.

Saturday’s Standouts: LeBron James recorded his second triple-double of the season on Saturday, racking up 24 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and three turnovers. However, he wasn’t the only Laker to tally a trip-dub. Lonzo Ball racked up 16 points, ten rebounds, ten assists to go along with five steals, two treys and two turnovers in 35 minutes. This is the type of performance from Ball that Lakers fans and fantasy owners have been pining for. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Lonzo and LeBron are the eighth pair of teammates with a triple-double in the same game in NBA history. They are the first since Jason Kidd and Vince Carter did it for the Nets in 2007, and the just second pair of Lakers, joining Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1982.
Nikola Vucevic, whether in the U.S. or south of the border, has been solid all season long. Vooch scored 15 points, grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds and added five assists, one triple, two blocks and two turnovers in the Magic’s victory over the Jazz in Mexico City on Saturday. It was Vucevic’s third game with at least 15 points, 15 boards and five dimes in 2018-19. The only two players with more 15/15/5 games this season are Giannis Antetokounmpo (9) and Anthony Davis (6).
Blake Griffin stuffed the stat sheet once again on Saturday, tallying 27 points (8-of-16 FGs, 10-of-13 FTs) eight rebounds, six assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer in 36 minutes. Griffin has scored at least 26 points in each of his last five games. During this current five-game stretch, he’s averaging 29.8 points (on 51.4% shooting), 8.8 boards, 5.3 dimes and 2.0 treys.
Andre Drummond also played a crucial role in the Pistons’ victory over the Lakers, snapping Detroit's six-game losings kid, while posting a monster double-double: 19 points, 20 rebounds, one assist, three steals, and five blocks. It was the second consecutive contest with five rejections for ‘Dre. The last Pistons player with five-plus blocks in back-to-back games was… Andre Drummond in 2014.
James Harden, fresh off a 50-point triple-double, had “only” 32 points (9-of-14 FG, 11-of-13 FT), 12 rebounds and ten assists on Saturday night. The Beard was remarkably efficient in this one, shooting 9-of-14 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. So, that’s a total of 82 points, 22 rebounds and 21 assists in 76 minutes over Houston’s last two games. That seems pretty good.
Russell Westbrook was just one 1-of-13 on 2-pointers but knocked down three of his four 3-point attempts and just barely missed yet another triple-double in Saturday’s win. Russ registered 13 points, nine boards, 16 assists and, as a sweet cherry on top, six steals… Not to be outdone, Paul George posted some impressive numbers as well: 33 points (11-19 FGs), seven boards, six assists, one steal, one blocks and five treys.
Devin Booker (hamstring), who had been sidelined since December 2nd, returned to the lineup on Saturday and looked terrific. He poured in 28 points (on 10-of-16 shooting) and tacked on three 3-pointers, seven rebounds, seven assists and two turnovers. Best of all, Book logged 36 minutes and didn’t appear to suffer any setback with his hamstring issue. The Suns play four games next week, so make sure he’s in all starting lineups.

And for season-long, the NBA Season Pass provides weekly projections, rankings, Pickups of the Day and more.
On The Radar: Kemba Walker has come crashing back down to earth this month and landed with a thud on Saturday. He scored just four points on 2-of-13 shooting in a blowout loss to the Lakers, adding one rebound, three assists and three turnovers in 25 minutes. Over the Hornets first 16 games, Kemba averaged 29.6 points (second in the NBA) and 4.1 treys, while shooting 46.5 percent from the floor and 38.9 from downtown. In the 13 games since, he’s averaging 19.2 points and 2.1 triples, while shooting 35.1% from the floor and 27.% from 3-point range… Malik Monk scored 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting Saturday, to go with two 3-pointers, five rebounds, one assist, but much of that came in garbage time.
Evan Fournier scored a team-high 24 points (on 7-of-15 shooting) on Saturday and tacked on two 3-pointers, seven rebounds, one steal and one turnover in 33 minutes. Fournier has struggled with his shot all season, so hopefully, he can use this encouraging performance to build some momentum… Aaron Gordon was disappointingly quiet, finishing with just eight points, two 3-pointers, two rebounds, three assists and one steal in 28 minutes… Jonathan Isaac was held scoreless, missing all three of his shots but was able to record seven boards, one assist, one steal and three blocks across 34 scoreless minutes.
Derrick Favors started and scored 21 points (on 8-of-16 shooting) with eight rebounds, two assists and three turnovers in a loss to the Magic... Donovan Mitchell also scored 21 points, but it was mostly empty calories. He shot just 8-of-21 from the field and had one rebound, one assist and one steal… Ricky Rubio also struggled with his shot, missing 11 of his 14 FG attempts. He finished with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals and two turnovers… Rudy Gobert registered six points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks and one turnover across 33 minutes.
Kyle Kuzma entered Saturday on fire but cooled off a little bit in the Lakers blowout victory over the Hornets. He tallied 14 points, two 3-pointers, three rebounds, three assists, one block and four turnovers in 28 minutes… JaVale McGee (illness) was questionable but ended up playing and played well, finishing with 19 points (on 9-of-10 shooting), six boards and three swats in just 18 minutes… Josh Hart had only five points on 2-of-8 shooting with three rebounds, one assist, one steal and two turnovers across his 26 minutes.
Reggie Bullock (left ankle sprain) returned from a five-game absence on Saturday and didn’t look the least bit rusty. He scored 15 points (5-of-11 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs) with three rebounds, one assist, and four 3-pointers in 30 minutes… Reggie Jackson had 12 points, two rebounds, four assists, one block, and three turnovers in 24 minutes.
Kyrie Irving struggled with his shot (11-of-25 FGs) but did more than enough to keep fantasy owners happy. He finished with 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two 3-pointers in 33 minutes… Gordon Hayward (6/2/2) had a dud and was just 3-of-11 from the field… Marcus Smart stellar: 21 points, eight boards, three dimes, five triples, and three steals.
Clint Capela banged out another double-double with 26 efficient points (10-of-14 FG, 6-of-7 FT), ten rebounds and two blocked shots in 35 minutes on Saturday… Chris Paul was erratic from the field (3-10 FGs) and finished with ten points, ten assists, two steals, one rebound and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes… Gerald Green scored 17 points (5-of-6 FG, 3-of-3 FT) with one rebound and four 3-pointers in 22 minutes off the bench.
Mike Conley topped the 20-point plateau again on Saturday. He poured in 22 points (8-of-17 FG, 5-of-5 FT) to go along with six assists, two rebounds and one three-pointer in 37 minutes. He was dealing with a hamstring issue and a finger injury earlier the week but looks perfectly healthy at the moment. This is just the second time in his career he’s had more than 20 points and more than five assists in three consecutive contests… Marc Gasol stuffed the stat sheet: 17 points (7-of-12 FG, 2-of-2 FT), nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and one three-pointer in 32 minutes… Jaren Jackson Jr. logged 31 minutes and finished with nine points, seven boards, three assists, one steal and three blocks.
Kris Dunn helped carry the Bulls to a shocking comeback victory over the Spurs in San Antonio on Saturday. Chicago was down 21 at one point but came all the way back. Dunn was huge down the stretch, scoring the Bulls final two buckets to secure the victory. He finished with 24 points (11-of-19 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs) seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 36 minutes. His minutes restriction is a thing of the past, and his buy-low window has probably already slammed shut, but I’d throw an offer out there… Lauri Markkanen scored 23 points (9-of-18 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs) with seven rebounds, one assist, two steals, two blocks, and three 3-pointers in 37 minutes. With Zach LaVine (ankle) sidelined (see below), Dunn and Markkanen will be the focal points of the offense… Wendell Carter Jr. (8/2/0) fouled out in 21 minutes… Jabari Parker was a DNP-CD. He is out of the rotation and can be sent to the waiver wire.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored a game-high 29 points (on 10-of-16 shooting) and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds… Rudy Gay had 12/6/4 in 26 minutes… DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points but needed 23 shots to do so (8-of-23 from the field). He also added five boards and three dimes… Spurs starters Derrick White and Bryn Forbes were a combined 0-of-7 from the floor.
Danilo Gallinari was excellent on Saturday, finishing with 28 points (on 10-of-16 shooting), seven boards, two assists, and four treys. The only blemish on his nightly resume was committing seven turnovers… Tobias Harris had 22 points (9-of-14 FGs), nine rebounds, one assist and three triples… It was good to see Montrezl Harrell snap out of a mini-slump. ‘Trez tallied 21 points (8-14 FGs), six rebounds and three dimes in 26 minutes off the pine.
Deandre Ayton (18 points, 12 boards) recorded another strong double-double during Saturday's win over the Timberwolves. He also added two assists and one block across 26 minutes… Mikal Bridges needed 12 shots to scored 12 points (4-of-12 shooting) but did tack on five rebounds, two 3-pointers, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, three blocks and one turnover in 40 minutes. However, with Kelly Oubre on the way to town, Bridges will have increased competition for minutes… T.J. Warren did his thing: 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting, three 3-pointers, five rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.
Karl-Anthony Towns came up big with 28 points, 12 rebounds, one 3-pointer, four assists, two steals and two blocks in 38 minutes… Dario Saric started in place of Taj Gibson (personal) and delivered 15 points, 11 rebounds, two 3-pointers, two assists, one steal and one turnover in 35 minutes… Robert Covington (knee) was able to suit up, but he did struggle, shooting 1-of-8 from the field four points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals, one block in 26 minutes.
Injury Tracker: Zach LaVine (ankle) did not play Saturday vs. the Spurs, as he returned to Chicago to have his left ankle injury further examined. Lavine initially injured the ankle late in Thursday's game vs. the Magic. He downplayed the severity of the damage on Thursday night, and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Friday that the injury was "not serious." However, KC Johnson of the Chicago Tribune wrote that "LaVine may need to rest the injury for a couple of weeks." Yet, it is believed that surgery won’t be required. LaVine will miss at least one more game, Monday’s matchup vs. OKC, and may not be able to play in their upcoming two-game homestand either.
Al Horford (sore left knee) did not play Saturday vs. Detroit. It was Big Al’s fifth straight game on the shelf. Earlier this week, coach Brad Stevens said that Horford would miss at least a few games and that the Celtics would err on the side of caution after he was diagnosed with patellar tendinitis.
Kyle Anderson (left ankle sprain) did not play Saturday against the Rockets. Anderson turned his ankle in the second half of Friday's loss to the Heat and was able to only play 16 minutes in that contest.
Zaza Pachulia (illness) missed his first game of the season Saturday night. Jon Leuer logged 14 minutes off the bench behind Andre Drummond.
Injury Notes for Sunday’s Games: Jimmy Butler (strained groin) is questionable for Sunday's game in Cleveland. Butler injured himself Monday vs. the Pistons and has been sidelined for each of the Sixers previous two contests. Furkan Korkmaz is averaging 33 minutes a night starting in place of Jimmy Buckets.
Nikola Mirotic (sore right ankle) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Heat. Mirotic has been fighting through the pain in his right ankle since November. The Pels sat him down on Wednesday and will likely do so again on Sunday. Hopefully, the rest allows him to heal. Julius Randle and Cheick Diallo will continue to see increased playing time in his absence.
E'Twaun Moore (left leg strain) is listed as questionable for Sunday. Moore has sat out each of New Orleans previous two contests. After a red-hot start to the season, he’s shooting just 33.3 percent from the field and 26.3% from downtown over his last seven appearances.
Otto Porter (knee) was unable to practice on Saturday and will be a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup vs. the Lakers. Otto was hurt on Monday has missed each of the Pistons last two games due to his nagging knee issue. If Porter is unable to play, the Wiz will be shorthanded on the wing as both Austin Rivers and Kelly Oubre are in the process of being traded to Phoenix. Markieff Morris, Jeff Green, Tomas Satoransky, and Sam Dekker would all be asked to log extended minutes if Porter is ruled out.
Frank Ntilikina (ankle) and Trey Burke (right MCL sprain) are both listed as probable for Sunday’s game vs. the Pacers. The Knicks were shorthanded, with only eight healthy bodies in the second half of Friday night’s game in Charlotte, which enabled Emmanuel Mudiay to eat up minutes and pour in a career-high 34 points. However, it looks like New York will have their full complement of point guards available on Sunday. This likely means that we are looking at an ugly timeshare situation at PG, limiting the fantasy value of all three players. Burke may be on the outside of the rotation looking in.
Damyean Dotson (sore right shoulder) and Lance Thomas (knee) are questionable to play Sunday against the Pacers. Dotson missed his first game of the season on Friday. With the three point guards healthy and Courtney Lee back in the mix, New York’s backcourt is getting crowded… Thomas has been out since Nov. 5 and will not see consistent minutes even when he’s healthy.
Mitchell Robinson (left ankle) has been ruled out. Mitch Rob turned his ankle when he landed on Frank Kaminsky after grabbing a rebound in the third quarter of Saturday’s game vs. the Hornets. X-Rays came back negative, but it would not be surprising if he missed multiple games. Luke Kornet stepped in and played the entire fourth quarter and all of overtime in Friday's impressive comeback win over the Hornets. The Uni-Kornet scored a season-high 13 points with six rebounds, two steals, three blocks and three 3-pointers in 24 minutes. He likely earned a chance to see minutes backing up Enes Kanter on Sunday.
Allen Crabbe (right knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Hawks. Rodions Kurucs started in place of Crabbe on Friday and registered 15 points, six rebounds, one assist and one triple. He’d be an intriguing dart-throw in DFS is Crabbe is out again.
Pascal Siakam (back stiffness) and Kyle Lowry (left thigh contusion) are questionable for Sunday's game vs. the Nuggets. Fred VanVleet started in place of Lowry vs. Portland on Friday and scored a season-high 21 points, adding eight assists, four rebounds, three triples and four turnovers in 38 minutes… Siakam injured his back in a scary fall Friday night and did not return to the contest. However, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweeted that tests on Siakam came back clean and that he was day-to-day. Fortunately, getting the questionable tag, as opposed to being ruled out, seems to support the belief that Siakam is only dealing with a minor injury. If he is unable to play Sunday, O.G. Anunoby and C.J. Miles will divvy up extra minutes.
Dennis Smith Jr. (wrist) and Dirk Nowitzki (ankle) are probable to play Sunday vs. the Kings. DSJ returned from a four-game absence on Thursday and finished with four points, eight rebounds, one assist, three steals, five turnovers and two fouls in 27 minutes against the Suns. Dirk made his season debut on Thursday, scoring two points with one rebound in six minutes.
J.J. Barea (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game. Barea injured the ankle on Wednesday night and did not return. The X-rays came back negative, but JJ sat out Thursday's game against Pheonix. Jalen Brunson will soak up additional playing time if Barea is sidelined.
Tyreke Evans (bruised right knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Knicks. ‘Reke has been a major disappointment this season, even when he was starting in place of Victor Oladipo. Now that ‘Dipo is healthy, Evans belongs on waivers in standard leagues.
Dwyane Wade (general soreness) is questionable to play Sunday. Wade was ruled out of Friday’s game due to the same illness.
Goran Dragic (knee) is being listed as "out" for Sunday's game in New Orleans. This will be Dragic’s third straight game on the sidelines and his 12th game missed over the last month. Tyler Johnson (hip) is probable to play Sunday and should continue to soak up extra minutes.
Omari Spellman (hip) and Alex Poythress (ankle) will not play on Sunday vs. the Nets. No fantasy impact to note from either or these two.
Iman Shumpert (left hip contusion) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Mavericks. Shumpert slipped and fell late in the third quarter on Friday, went to the locker room, and did not return. If Shumpert is ruled out on Sunday, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Buddy Hield, and Justin Jackson will see extra time.
Brandon Ingram (ankle) and Rajon Rondo (fractured right hand) will both miss at least the two games for the Lakers. Rondo has been cleared to resume basketball activities but will not join the Lakers on their current road trip. Ingram was re-evaluated on Saturday, and while he's making solid progress and is being listed as day-to-day, he will also not join the team until they return to Los Angeles. The earliest these two would be able to play would be Friday at home vs. New Orleans.
