Some Koopaling headcanons to annoy ableists.
Ludwig is Deaf. He wears hearing aids, has a deaf accent when he speaks (people mistake it for lisp) and is fluent in Koopa Sign. He only uses his hearing aids when he has to be around hearing people or he’s working on music.
Tumblr media
Lemmy is autistic and doesn’t mask it. He owns tons of stim toys and his idea of socializing is being in the same room as other people. His biggest meltdown trigger is too much excitement in a short span of time.
Tumblr media
Iggy has epilepsy. He takes meds to control focal dyscognitive seizures that sometimes generalize into tonic clonic seizures. His biggest seizure triggers are extreme stress, not sleeping enough and too much activity during the first forty five minutes he’s awake.

Some Four love after the poll got them no votes at all LOL. May yet clean it up a bit more, but for now I wanted to share. Design for my own AU.
There's a reason for their variation in looks and all, which I'll put under the cut. It's not super vital to my AU because Four themself has no fucking clue why its doing that, but if you're curious about the reasoning go for it.
Yes, go ahead, make all the grey-ace jokes you want about Shadow, it's not why he's in grey but its true.
If y'all looked at his bio, you'd notice I stated he's intersex via genetic mosaicism. Well, if you look at the pics above that comes out in some designs. Obviously Four has no idea why the split had the effects it did, but their weird genetics get scrambled by the splitting and results in varying expression of albinism, gender and -- as will come up in another fic soon -- their epilepsy.
They all still mainly use he/him, and only sometimes they. In terms of Word of God with this AU, I'm not going to be more specific on them being multiple because its a complex condition that probably was heavily influenced by the situation with the Four Sword when they were only fourteen. This, too, is something Four honestly isn't fully sure of themself: did the sword do this, or was he always like that?
I'll leave it up to y'all to fill in the blanks, because -- on top of all of the above -- Four will not give a straight answer unless it's absolutely necessary. So enjoy?

Why do you headcannon Juldarami as having cerebral palsy? Not trying to be mean, just curious.
Thank you for the ask, I'd love to talk about it!
Of course, there isn't any evidence in the show to suggest that he has it, but I like to think that he does because it makes me feel closer to him as he's sorta like a comfort character to me.
There isn't much representation for people with invisible disabilities in the media (especially for those with mild CP like me) so I've got loads of headcanons. The idea of a character who is very strong and sprightly but also has the same disability as me feels very inspiring, even if it has no basis in canon.
Sorry this is a little long, I hope this answers your question 💚

Do I think Billy could be lactose intolerant because I am lactose intolerant and I deserve representation? Yeah, but also gut injuries can result in secondary lactose intolerance so I’m right actually. Billy is lactose intolerant.

In one of the little stories in my head I gave one of the Mechs lipomyelomeningocele. I’m not sure if it will stick as an All the Time headcanon, or just this once or occasionally.

headcanoning every character’s signature style pieces as covert braces, splints, compression gear, or other aids. oh, you don’t think so? that thing they always do with their hands is a stim. that little phrase they keep repeating? echolalia.
sorry your blorbo wears ring splints we just didn’t notice because of the angles
our other blorbo doesn’t wear leggings, those are waist-high compression garments and they have POTS but it was just never relevant to the plot
oh yeah those cool gloves? compression. fancy harness? that’s a body braid. cool boots? they wear orthotics.
at least 1/4 people are disabled and I’m translating that into every single blorbo
(a lot of “invisible” disabilities aren’t totally invisible; the signs are just ignored. migraines are invisible but the sunglasses inside are not. bipolar is invisible but that impulse tattoo while manic isn’t. chronic fatigue is invisible but the stumbling over words with brain fog is not… and so on.)
more representation or I will continue headcanoning a new blorbo as disabled every day until I get what I want <3

The most perfect cinnamon roll you've ever met in your life.
Spirit Tracks Zelda, in her wheelchair post-adventures because I doubt Malladus took good care of her body while he had it...
And since it probably won't come up explicitly in narrative (because honestly these things are just not on people's minds that often once established) she's also a trans woman like I do for Ocarina of Time Zelda.
Character design associated with my Link's Meet AU, That Broken Promise.

I am rotating disabled!Xie Lian in my head. 🥺  Hua Cheng invents the best/most-tailored-to-him wheelchair ever and has an ongoing argument with him about how he deserves to have his support needs met.
*dumps my combo of sensory issues and fatigue on him* Hua Cheng bathing him carefully, in just the right way… 🥺🥺🥺 Xie Lian starts to look forward to bathtime each day, instead of dreading it.  Hua Cheng encourages him to relax completely and just let himself be taken care of.
He’s sure Hua Cheng will get tired of all this eventually. Isn’t it boring and annoying, he thinks, to help him with intimate tasks most people do on their own? To Hua Cheng, though, it’s a privilege. He gets to serve his god. If he can just have this forever, he’ll be happy.
I don’t really know how toilet care (?) goes - I haven’t had someone help me with that since I was a child - but I have Feelings about Xie Lian needing it.
Hua Cheng: *out of his mind with bliss at being able to help Xie Lian* Xie Lian: isn’t this gross?  🥺 Hua Cheng: ????  Wh,
I don’t think Hua Cheng is capable of finding anything about Xie Lian gross, boring, or annoying. 🥺

Linkverse ask game:
2, 3 and 8
2. Who was the hardest character to design?
Honestly I think Minish was the hardest one to design. I reached out to a few friends because I just could not figure out what I wanted to do with the story of Minish Cap. It's so far outside my normal range of story-telling and likes that I was drawing blanks.
I don't remember exactly what made me hit on "semi-Picori cryptid" but apparently it's made him the #1 Link all my friends who draw adore to pieces and do first, so at least it was successful? But I definitely struggled the most with him.
3. Which character is the hardest to write for?
This is a toss-up, honestly. I'll say Outset at the moment, because having chosen to make him blind it severely restricts how a story is presented in his POV. I've done it before (Prince isn't a struggle, because I've worked with deaf characters in other projects before this one) but blindness is new and I try to take care with that to ensure it's consistent how much he's aware of and how he'd compensate. The structural changes are very similar to writing deafness, but it's still a different set of problems. This gets compounded by the fact that this means that he also misses communication sometimes in this group, because there's multiple Links who primarily (or solely) communicate in sign language!
Another fic with his POV is just getting edited, so you'll see that (hopefully) soon!
8. Are there any specific lines or events in canon that influence your characterization?
Absolutely every single one, I stg. I could make a list but for now I'll do Outset's again because that one's very clear in my head: when I was watching the Phantom Hourglass walkthrough, I noticed that the cursor the player uses to direct Link on the screen is whatever fairy you have out at the moment, mostly Ciela.
But, functionally speaking, that looks a lot like "Link won't go somewhere the fairy isn't leading him to." Or, perhaps phrased another way, Link is letting the fairy guide him.
Taken further, potentially Link needs more help getting places by the time of Phantom Hourglass than he needed in Wind Waker, in which he mostly spent a lot of time squinting but here? Once presented the option of a constant guide telling him where to go, he took it and relied quite heavily on it.
And that's why Outset has juvenile, genetic degenerative blindness.
